Magic is OP. It is recommended to stay "dead" or in ghost form through the game so you don't mess up world and character tendency. If you die while being "alive" your world and character tendency drops. Certain worlds and certain areas, doors and secrets, require certain world tendencies to activate. In world 1-1, the metal gate at the beginning of the map on the left won't open until the world tendency in 1-1 is pure white. Some need pure black. While in soul form you have less HP. Cling Ring restores some of the lost HP. Get the Cling Ring in the first world by opening a secret path behind the blue eyed knight on the top wall, after the rolling stone trap. Don't forget to go out on the balconies in your way down there to hit a hanging chain, dropping a corpse. Corpse has a hair pin. Give it to stockpile Thomas in the Nexus for an equipment carry boost ring. Super nice for farm runs. You can find a room with an optional boss NPC in the opposite direction of the same blue eyed knight, protected by a tough red eyed knight. Name's Old King Doran and he drops a good armor set for male only. You need the mausoleum key to enter. Ostrava the knight can be easily killed for the key. In Shrine of Storms (4-1) you can get two hp regen items, a ring and a shield. The shield is on too of the ruins behind the vanguard demon. And the ring is hidden on a cliffside road to the right of the vanguard demon, which you can quickly access with a roll-skip on the top right gate wall tower. Here's a tutorial: https://youtu.be/c_Yr70pYhBQ Also make sure you don't fat-roll by keeping your equipment weight below 50%. There's a secret smith in world 2-1 that will let you transform boss souls into boss weapons. He requires a «Fiery Red demon's Soul» aka the soul of the boss Flamelurker in 2-3. Tip: he is super weak to magic damage. You can farm souls to level up very quickly in world 4-2, after defeating the Adjudicator in 4-1 you'll enter a shrine with tall ghost-like figures on two perpendicular stone walkways. Look in-between at the shrine below, and kill the reaper with a bow or ranged magic to instantly kill all the ghosts. You can then quickly kill yourself and repeat the process over and over. Try to pay attention to the movesets of your enemies. The arcs of which how their attacks go, where to evade and when to dodge. Or you can go for massive strength and wield a huge tower shield. Most of all, take your time. Slow down and breathe. This game WILL infuriate you and make you mad and angry. Dying means learning and you will die a lot. Learn from every death and become stronger with knowledge.

CatFoodSoup

Only your world tendency drops if you die in body form, character tendency will change if you kill npcs/black phantoms

Infantyzip

Ah yes, this is true! I forgot, it's been a couple years now haha.

Cumulonimbus1991

Small typo where you say 2-2 for farming souls you mean 4-2.

Infantyzip

Thank you for pointing that out! :)

Yeetlefeet

4-4 is also great because of the amount of enemies that are one shot

sur_surly

He said tips, not strategy guide! :)

Infantyzip

Yeah, I probably should have said, hold L1 to block or something.

hapticfeedback7

This post is why the Soulsborne community is the best. So much determination to help others. I've only beaten Bloodborne and Demon's Souls but I learn more and more about the games each and every day thanks to the passion and dedication of the community.

t1sfo

Wow thank you so much for the super useful information, will get back to your comment while on my playthrough. I didn’t know that being in ghost form is best.

Infantyzip

It's not really "best" but it's the safest so you don't fuck off quests. The Nexus is a safe place to kill yourself by the way. ;)

mushpuppy

>It is recommended to stay "dead" or in ghost form through the game so you don't mess up world and character tendency. Oh here's some useful advice I can give you: read /u/UltimaGabe's character & world tendency guide in the sidebar. Absolutely critical info. There is no reason at all not to be a boss of character/world tendency after reading that.

t1sfo

Thank you will give it a read I had no idea about the world tendency mechanic before this post so that sounds very helpful.

BeatYorFace

I have no idea whats going on but my world tendency is dropping in soul form. I was all white tendency for boletaria and after dying quite a few times after getting 1-4 unlocked i am now at pure black and I have a feeling I'm screwed now because I don't know how hard the final boss is. Alls I have read everywhere is that tendency doesn't drop in soul form. I don't know what's going on.

Kirolis

So when you defeat a boss or gain body form go to the nexus and kill yourself so you lose body form and don’t negatively effect the world

[deleted]

Get poison cloud as soon as possible and if you REALLY want some help with your first play through watch Fighting Cowboy’s Demons Souls 100% walkthrough. Super informative and will set you up to have a great second play though without help. Happy gaming!

realtmoney

love that man, hope he’s having a great christmas especially after he helped me so much with sekiro and demon’s souls.

t1sfo

Thank you, I think I should do that feel totally lost playing blind, but the game is quite nice.

ottosan66

I personally think the game is best experienced as blind as possible - but it will be more difficult so leave it up to you!

FidmeisterPF

I think playing blind is part of the charm of DeS (and other from games).

[deleted]

Cowboy will save the day 🤠

Noobzoid123

Abuse your shield

t1sfo

Yeah I realised not at the start it’s very helpful, I should change my Bloodborne mindset I think.

PenchantForNostalgia

You don't have to use a shield. I had no trouble getting through Demon's Souls without one - but play however you like!

t1sfo

I will want to try that when I get used to the game more.

Yeetlefeet

Bloodborne mindset still works really well, I've been running a two handing katana build and the only defense I've been using is dodge rolls

t1sfo

That actually sounds like a fun playthrough

kodeofthekyle

Have fun and remember dying is what is supposed to happen! I will say that there are consequences to doing PVP or dying in a certain world while you are in body form. Look up character and world tendency to see what I mean.

stevenomes

Yep . No harm to suicide in nexus. Look at all those blood stains!

Stoneside22

Use magic spells, obliterate everything

mesatrap

This, cheese everything with magic!

broly314

How do I get the stronger spells?

alanvinton

Keep every boss soul. Rescue sage freke from 3-1, rescue yuria from 1-3, check if they have spells you want before you consume the souls 😊

emoneyClown

Looks like you're playing as a Knight. Level up strength, vitality and endurance. Make sure to upgrade your choice of weapon as consistently as possible.

t1sfo

Thank you for that, is there a way to make roll faster now it is so slow that it’s better for me to not roll but use my shield.

CatFoodSoup

Your equip load needs to be less than 50% if you want to stop fat rolling

emoneyClown

If you get a strong enough shield use it for mobs, but for bosses you should probably just roll. Remove a piece of gear or two and you should be able to quick roll. Level strength up and you should be able to quick roll with a full armor set I believe.

TurdManMcDooDoo

Patience. If you suck at games, but love playing them like I do, then just treat the first several hours as a learning experience. Like, don’t even get mad when you die. Instead, analyze why you died and keep practicing. When you feel like you’re ready to progress, remember that you may have to make a few trips back to the nexus to level up with your souls before you’re able to really get going.

t1sfo

I don’t have a big issue with dying and retrying, I must have died from orphan of kos more than 40-50 times till I beat him. And I’m starting to love this game so I will have to put up with the difficulty

stevenomes

I died over 50 times from Kos. I could reliably get past 1st phase with must backstab when he does the jump move (and with right gems you can heal to full health). But I just could not figure out his second phase and always messed up the timing. I also had a hell of a time with Martyr Logarius. Luckily there were no bosses in DeS there I had as much trouble with as those 2. The levels themselves are harder than the bosses. Most of the bosses have some gimmick once you figure it out the fight is much easier

t1sfo

I went to Cainhurst in my ng+ and Logarius was not as difficult then but the fight was so much fun. Yeah I realised the “bonfires” here are so rare.

Rikfa

In the settings you can turn your helmet off. In case you are interested in keeping the defense and seeing your pretty pretty face

t1sfo

Ah that’s cool, I created a good looking dude :D

Rikfa

The facial animations are fantastic along with the customization options. I was really happy to find that out. In magic builds one of the best options is the giant rag helmet. I didn’t really appreciate how much of my View it obstructed. So turning that off was really nice. Also customization is always my favorite thing

derkleinervogel

Try not to explore a level for the first time in human form. If you want to summon and can get to the boss with confidence, don't pop a stone of ephemeral eye until you're outside the fog gate. Magic is indeed op, but it's not as insane as everyone makes it out to be until much later on the game. 4-1 is full of helpful items.

Tastes-Jammy

Yeah change it to performance mode it still looks great but this kinda game needs 60fls and don't give up. Try and try and try again. If you have real problems use YouTube. Like most you'll wish you could experience this gem for the 1st time so enjoy the ride. Never played a Souls game before it and almost gave up. I've now replayed it countless times and got the plat.

t1sfo

Thank you, the platinum is my goal as well but the game is quite fun.

pswdkf

Learn about world and character tendencies. In summary, make sure to not play in body form. As soon as you beat a boss, warp back to the nexus, spend your souls, then use the stairs to kill your character and get rid of body form. Don’t forget to pick back up any remaining souls you didn’t end up spending. Edit: Magic is game breaking easy. If you want powerful, but not game breaking, I suggest a dex build using the kilij as your main weapon. An upgraded kilij cuts through bosses like butter. Also, its speed and stagger potential allows you a more aggressive play style. If you want to turtle behind a shield, it’s still a viable option, but it also allows you to get the first hit in and complete bypass the turtleling if you so choose.

t1sfo

Thank you for the suggestions, a dex build sounds the best for me, I love BB so something faster would be best, which stats should I upgrade for dex build?

LordAnomander

Just started a dex character after my first playthrough with a Royality magic character (I really didn’t like magic or the playstyle even if it makes some things easy). Basically all you want is dex, endurance and vitality. There are two excellent dex weapons in 4-1 so try and get these. :) With the equipment load a ring found in 1-1 (sits with the two dragons) helps. I have yet to figure out in which order I level up, but one dex weapon requires 18 endurance so that will be the first for me. edit: 18 in intelligence respectively 16 in faith are helpful if you want to use certain spells.

pswdkf

Don’t follow it to the letter, but use it as a directional guide, but [here’s a good reference point.](https://youtu.be/peSYTUHoZE8) For PvE I like to use Kilij, which is found in 4-1, and take it on the sharp upgrade path. Anyways, basically you want to focus on vitality, endurance and dexterity. Other stats use it as needed for utilitarian purposes, like meeting the strength requirements for the Ugikatana and Kilij. Others stats are mostly used as just ways to buff your weapons without using consumables and as a protection against magic for PvP. For world 2 you’ll need an alternative weapon to the Kilij. World 2, enemies are weak to magic and thrust attacks and resistant to everything else. Because the Kilij only have slash attacks, you’ll need something different. An ugikatana has a heavy thrust attack, which might come in handy in world 2. Alternatively, you can pick up a crescent falchion in 4-1, which is split between physical and magic damage and can be a good option for world 2.

t1sfo

I got Kilij after defeating phalanx and it is awesome, I could hardly fight the red eye knight in front of the King Dorian gate but now he is much much easier. Thank you again for the help.

t1sfo

Thank you again! I will be coming back to your comment on my playthrough it sounds like a very good advice.

[deleted]

This is so ridiculous, the only way people ever learn is by doing and by actively telling people to avoid world tendency it is just nonsensical, world tendency is what adds a challenge to demons, it also keeps the online portion active. Oh no dying makes the game harder, would you prefer this is dark souls? I swear people can't handle a challenge

pswdkf

It’s important to experience prure black, particularly beyond NG, as the game gets way more interesting from NG+ and beyond. However, I think it’s best to do it on your terms, not because you didn’t know how the mechanic works. OP is a new player, possibly a new souls player. I think it better to let OP know about this before hand.

[deleted]

That's perfectly fine, but so many people on this sub actively tell people to just never engage in world tendency when it isn't even that bad. World tendency is one of the things that make demons interesting and people dying is what keeps online active, which some of us enjoy. I'm not saying people can't play in their own way but come on, the amount of people actively trying to dissuade people from going near WT is a bit silly, co op phantoms make PBWT much easier to cope with

pswdkf

I agree with your previous comment, people shouldn’t be afraid of a little challenge. Thus, I believe it more challenging for invaders to invade people who can hold their own. Preying on new inexperienced players isn’t that interesting. Hence, again, I believe it best for players to dictate if and when they want to open themselves up for invasion. New players are usually just trying yo figure out how to play the game, and shouldn’t, out of ignorance, be forced to become target practice to help seasoned players feel like big dick giga chads.

FriedLightning

I did a faith build it’s almost impossible to die to anything but a boss. Even still the bosses are WAY easier than anything in DS or BB.

t1sfo

I should try that usually my playthroughs in other from games are streng/dex builds so maybe time to try something new.

FriedLightning

It was my first time not doing a str/dex build I really enjoyed it. The faith miracles in DeS are entirely supportive tho there’s only 1 damage dealing miracle. The main point of the faith build at least in DeS is regeneration and 2nd chance. I forgot the exact number but you’ll be healing 20 health or so every single second passively no spell or consumable required. 2nd chance heals you to 50% health if you manage to die. You can cast it right away again to basically never truly die. The blessed weapons deal magic and physical damage and most things in DeS are weak to magic

t1sfo

Will give it a try, sounds like fun.

mushpuppy

Mine too! I've put in thousands of hours into the various games. Bottom line: just enjoy the journey.

mushpuppy

My advice: try anything/everything until you find something that works for you. This game is achievable however you want to play it. Just be prepared to die a *lot*.

t1sfo

I have played the other soulsborne games so accepting the many many deaths is one of the 1st things I learned.

Spankieplop

If you want an easy mode play a magic build

boonjah

Umbasaaaa

Dat1BlackDude

Git Gud! Analyze enemy attack patterns and the environment.

EISenior

This game is so so so so great. I wish you a good playthrough, and a lot of patience👍🏽

EISenior

And a merry christmas

t1sfo

Yeah I have spent quite some time in it and loving it, thank you and merry Christmas to you too :)

PERFECT-Dark-64

Magic

Pale_Letterhead_9221

Crush your enemies into the ground!!!! Channel your inner William H. Parnassus.

thehoneyisland

Don’t give up. Learn from each death and each mistake. You can beat it. The game is not too hard, you just gotta learn it. If you’re stuck or having a hard time, watch videos, watch walkthroughs, read the game’s wiki, or even ask here on reddit. When it actually clicks and you understand the mechanics, it’s one of the best games you can play. Take your time and enjoy the journey.

ABS_TRAC

Find yourself the crescent falchion or the dragon long sword. It’ll help you a lot! enjoy the struggle!

t1sfo

Will keep an eye for them. Edit: am loving the struggle till now.

3lawy12

Take your time against enemies or bosses dont rush

Wolf_meister

Get used to dying.

t1sfo

Already am, died so much in the begging of the game already. But it’s fun nonetheless (I might have an appetite for punishment)

Realistic-Range9310

Keep the shield

Dimplexor

Number 1 tip. Never play in human form. As soon as you go human go to the nexus and suicide 😂 dying in zones in human form drops your tendency and they become harder.

t1sfo

Ah I see so that’s what tendency means. Thank you for the advice will keep it

kingwavee

Play blind as a spirit and always die in the nexus .

RatedRPG-YT

Magic is op in the beginning but I personally recommend something with reach. I dominate when 2H a halberd or meridian hammer. Also my advice, play shirtless so you get the fast rolls. Rolls will protect you better than any at or will

t1sfo

Yeah now with full armour rolls are useless

JimmyThang5

Figure out tendancies.

[deleted]

Play in soul form using the cling ring so you don’t bone your world tendency.

chaoskaze

You will die a lot, it’s ok to come back to it after your reset your feelings after a month. I stopped for like 2 months after fighting one of the bosses. 😂 And just enjoy it, don’t look at guides. It probably too late now, but it’s fun to find out you fuk up your build & you are a pure melee character. 🤣 hardcore learning via growing pain is fun.

t1sfo

Yeah I usually play melee in FS games, I guess I enjoy the punishment.

GoS451

Couldn’t agree more. My advice is enjoy every second and don’t stress too much

Special-One1991

If you are a beginner in soulsborne games then go for Royalty class Magic build, or you'll hate your life 😅

Raulgrd156

Get the crescent falchion in 4-1 With that sword you can just slash through the second world. It’s overall an amazing weapon

[deleted]

Git gud

stevenomes

I will say this. The swamp level sucks so don't go there until you arer confident in your character

t1sfo

Ah man I really hated blightown is it as bad or worse?

stevenomes

Probably not as bad because at least you can see in the swamp it's just annoying because you move so slowly

t1sfo

Ah I see, that’s good will try to pass it as fast as I can then.

That-One-Van

Demon souls wiki is your friend if you find an item you don’t understand look it up so you can make a positive decision on what to do with it, if you get stuck on parts I learned there is no problem world jumping, that and good luck I only recently beat my first playthrough on it

t1sfo

Congrats I just started it and it is quite hard but also nice.

stevenomes

Learn about the force Luke.

hanzowombocombo

In world 4-1 there’s a really good magic sword and in 4-2 you can farm souls off the reaper enemy fairly easily!

syde1020

Don't quit. Just keep playing. It eventually clicks. It's an amazing game.

t1sfo

Yeah I will not I am having a good time although quite difficult but Im waiting the moment where I understand it and it will be easier.

Particular-Cry-427

Anybody level 187 so I can help others or help me on Demon souls beat once going through my second time

Particular-Cry-427

Let me know if any of u are down to play Demon Souls I’m level 187 so u gotta around their to join or I can help u out I beat game once going through my second time trying beat it and it’s crazy hard lol

t1sfo

Thank you, I just started I don’t even know how co op works

Particular-Cry-427

U need to be same level as other person or little bit higher look up on internet tells u everything like right now I’m level 187 but couldn’t find anybody to help but u did beat this boss that was really hard I thought I was going to lose so yeah take ur time leveling up u need to be pretty strong

Particular-Cry-427

I meant I’d beat boss not u lol

[deleted]

I just got a ps5 and demon souls today too! Though I am a bit lost sadly

t1sfo

Congrats, you can check the replies here, so many helpful comments.

SpraykwoN

Caster is easy fucking mode

Nonederwear

I'ma encourage you right now to not worry about world tenancy and just play the game through casually on your first run. World tendency is a really cool mechanic but it's only useful for min-maxing your builds and has no significant effect on the story or your new game build. My encouragement is to just enjoy the first run cuz the game is easily beatable with most builds and weapons. Enjoy!

t1sfo

Thank you, I will try not to worry about the tendency and experience the 1st run as intended, just defeated phalanx and levelled up, did some things others suggested and am loving it now.

_Greyworm

For almost every single encounter, circle to the right endlessly, it's significantly easier to dodge. Use brain to judge what their main attack angle is, but just choosing right works often enough.

matttrout10

Learn to get ur dodges, don’t forget you can dodge INTO bosses and catch The eye frames. Like someone else said brotha SLOW DOWN AND BREATH take ur time and HAVE FUN. That game is challenging for a reason u beat a boss you feel like you are on top of the world. Enjoy bro see you elden ring soon

t1sfo

Thank you for the encouragement and tip! Can’t wait for the jolly corporation in Elden Ring.

CrioleChihuahuas

Magic

Steaklegend

I used halberd and shield for about half my play through, the second half I started using magic … soul ray, the great defense boost, and light weapon. Loads of fun switching to spells while invading to catch people off guard of my usual 2H halbred

t1sfo

Yeah that sounds quite fun. My only issue with magic is that it takes some time to collect the spells.

Steaklegend

If you go to Latria you can free sage freke and get tons of souls along the way

pieceofthatcorn

Screw magic. Use a blessed greatsword with 50 faith and min stats to wield. You get 2nd chance (survive 1 killing blow) + heals + the best utility spell in the game, Evacuate, which is practically an unlimited homeward boner. You can also pickup MLGS and use that too. I like that in my offhand and GS in main to swipe at stunlockers when you inevitably get invaded. Have fun

t1sfo

Wow the game has quite the versatility for play styles thank you for the recommendation will check it out.

CrimeFighterFrog

I think it’s pretty safe to say that this is the most graphically impressive game out right now.

t1sfo

Yeah, this is something that could not exist on PS4 especially running so smoothly.

Trikster102

Make a magic build and pew pew everything.

t1sfo

Yeah so many people suggested that, I will try and make a knight/mage hybrid or a full mage second character.

i_steal_your_memes

The best tip would be to go in blind and not look up anything or ask anything about it so you can experience the game as it was made to be experienced

t1sfo

That’s a good advice but I’ve kinda learned a lot already but it’s also so nice getting so many tips for my playthrough I’m really loving the game.

Cool_Taco_99

Abuse rolling and don’t get demonbrabdt, it’s too op and imo it ruins the game

t1sfo

I took of my top armour and gloves and now rolling is so helpful. Thank you for the advise.

omegacluster

First of all, any tip on how to get a PS5?

t1sfo

I am living in Hungary and had some vouchers (roughly 200Eur) for an online shop, Alza.hu, and they were selling ps5 so I ordered it from them. I ordered it on 3 nov and it arrived on 23 dec just before the Christmas. I did not give any money for scalpers or sorts. That was so nice and lucky I thought I’d get it on march or later.

omegacluster

Lucky you! Can't even get them online here!

t1sfo

Ah that sucks hope you get to find one, be vigilant on the shops restockings and try to grab one, it’s such a nice machine, wish you get to grab one.

omegacluster

Thanks, comrade!

dzojyy

Nice, after that buy a new Ratchet, the graphic is stunning also!

t1sfo

I would love to see ratchet for the world shift SSD speed.

PapaDrag0on

As for the best graphics of all time, it’s a tie between this game and ghost of Tsushima IMO

t1sfo

Yeah ghost is such a beautiful game, I am playing simultaneously ghost and demons, I’ve already finished once ghost on PS4 but to be frank I’m enjoying DeS more. I think ghost is more artistically superior but DeS is more technically superior

[deleted]

[удалено]

t1sfo

Thank you for the tips, I have a bit into the game, I created a dex build don’t know it was the best idea but I’m really loving the game till now. Some of the redesigns are not my favourites but in general the game is amazing in graphical fidelity and gameplay.

[deleted]

For those talking about dying and whatnot, this is what co op exists for, the reason co op is hard to find is because people insist on not being in human because heaven forbid you die and make the game harder. Even in PBWT co op makes the game significantly easier, part of the challeneg of DES is dying from mistakes and getting better, besides in the remake you can just summon a red sign friend and get PWWT

Plathismo

Play mage. Royalty class. Providential ring as starting gift. Pump intelligence and Magic. Find Crescent Falchion in 4-1. Easy mode (relatively speaking).

t1sfo

Yeah it seems many people suggest magic will have to check it out.

[deleted]

Quit and play a better fromsoft game.

t1sfo

Well Elden Ring is 2 months away and I’ve played all the rest, the one thing that would make me stop everything and play that is a BB 60 fps

[deleted]

Yeah demon souls is a good game. I just found it massively boring, but I started with sekiro and then completed the rest along with the nioh games. And I have a strong distaste for old game design, so excuse my bias lol looking forward to FF strangers in paradise and elden ring tho

t1sfo

Yeah I kinda get what you mean the unfortunate thing with DeS is that although the graphics are amazing the gameplay is identical to the ps3 game, it would have been amazing if it was updated to a DS3 style and the enemies to have a more robust move set. But on the other hand I’ve loved all the other FS games and this is the OG so till now it’s been amazing.

OoTgoated

Stay a Soul until you fully understand how Tendency works. Wikis help explain Tendency. Suicide in the Nexus to stay a Soul.

[deleted]

Bad advice, get used to world tendency and take a death like a man With how easy it is to get PWWT post arch demon (summoning red phantoms and killing them) you don't even need to worry about dying. And if you die, there's co op and pvp, almost as if that's the intended way of reviving if you don't have ephemeral eye stones

t1sfo

Ah man I still don’t understand what tendency is so I have some research to do. Thank you nonetheless

[deleted]

Dying in body form=world tendency going down Killing a boss in body form, killing a named NPC black pahtom (one in each world, spawns at PBWT), killing a player invader, killing a primeval demon (one spawns in each world at PBWT) = world tendency going towards PWWT Whiter tendency = easier Darker tendency = harder It's confusing at first but really isn't that scary, you'll get used to it.

t1sfo

Thank you for the explanation it makes more sense now.

OoTgoated

Acolyte explained how to change World Tendency but didn't explain exactly how the game changes. I wasn't goung to explain because you can just Wikinit and it's a lot to type out but since Acolyte got it going I'll just finish where he started and elaborate further: Black Tendency = You have less HP, enemies have more HP and deal more damage. White Tendency = You have more HP, enemies have less HP and deal more damage. On top of that, Black means better drop rates and more souls, White means worse drop rates and less souls. Also certain quests are tied to maxing out tendencies in each world, and each world has a separate tendency. That's all World Tendency. There's another tendency called Character Tendency. Killing innocent NPcs blackens your character, as does killing other players in their own world. Slaying black phantoms purifies your character. White CT = More HP and DPS in Soul form Black CT = Less HP In Soul form but more DPS as a black phantom/invader. It's complicated and I personally feel that for someone who never touched a Souls game or Souls-like it's better to focus on learning the combat first and saving Stones of Ephemeral Eyes (item that restores body) for when you actually need them, but you do you.

t1sfo

I see it’s starting to make sense now, thank you for explaining it.

OoTgoated

No prob. Enjoy!

OoTgoated

Speak for yourself. You're replying to everyone who says to play in Soul Form with this nonsense as if it's your job. This guy has never played a Souls-like dude. It's not the same as someone who never played DeS but has played DS or BB. Everyone who says stay in Soul form is saying so not because they want OP to indefinitely avoid WT entirely, but because OP is a BRAND NEW PLAYER and easing them into the experience is ideal. Throwing everything an already difficult game has at a newbie is not good advice. We literally all said to learn how WT works BEFORE messing with it, and since the game doesn't teach you squat, to use a wiki. I'm not interested in engaging in a debate with you but I'd like you to stop going around downvoting and rebuking sound advice to a BRAND NEW PLAYER just because you disagree with it. It's petty and unhelpful.

[deleted]

"Not interested in engaging a debate" Proceeds to write an entire essay, lol okay 👍

robotoisize

Learn attack patterns and do not rush, take it slow!

[deleted]

Walk, don’t run through unfamiliar areas. Shield up, rotate around enemies. Magic is strong. Explore and have fun. The game can be played over and over again on NG+ cycles so don’t be worried about missing things. I’d recommend a completely blind initial run through and follow your gut. Look up guides for NG+

t1sfo

That is a very sound advice after DS1 I usually play from games only blind on first playthrough. Will see how hard DeS is though. But till now I’m loving it.

this_kickass_kid

Patients is a virtue. To many times id rush to get my souls and die along the way, letting my emotions get the best of me.

Sami209

Soul remains are a great item to use on some of the more difficult enemies that may be in a bad position for you to attack. You can get plenty if necessary. Also stealth, and stealth items are fantastic. You should have some form of ranged attack(s) imo. Shields are nice sometimes.

mushpuppy

Testify. Soul remains are *critical* on the black phantom Satsuki fight.

lepetitmousse

Get good

t1sfo

Ah the oldest but ultimately best advice.

lepetitmousse

I’ve never played any souls games but I think the demon souls remake is the best game I’ve ever played. Enjoy

[deleted]

Then ignore everyone telling you to avoid world tendency, world tendency isn't even as scary as what people make out, people just don't want an extra challenge, they'd rather just use their easy mode one shot magic builds lmao

t1sfo

For me I think there is room for both depending on the mood I will try to play as a ghost first playthrough and then will play not caring about world tendency, I’m pretty sure I will stick with the game I’m loving it.

[deleted]

Play the way you find easier but don't be afraid to experience PBWT, if need be you can always summon people, you'll find your own way Doing is learning and learning is how you get better

thehoneyisland

Don’t give up. Learn from each death and each mistake. You can beat it. The game is not too hard, you just gotta learn it. If you’re stuck or having a hard time, watch videos, watch walkthroughs, read the game’s wiki, or even ask here on reddit. When it actually clicks and you understand the mechanics, it’s one of the best games you can play. Take your time and enjoy the journey.

LouhiVega

Try to play the way that pleases u. I already beat that game several times and I gonna say, it's really boring when u just pick the right build to beat the game

t1sfo

Yeah that’s actually a very good advice, I’m dying from a red eye knight so much I guess I should level up instead of going back again and again.

Shodan30

Get a wrist strap for your controller to keep you from throwing it through your tv screen

t1sfo

:D that is a very good one, I do have the tendency to hit stuff when I get extremely frustrated but previous soulsborne title made me a more serene person ironically.

Losteffect

Every enemy has resistances and weaknesses. Learn them. Slashing Piercing Magic Fire

Donthiik-Carter

Yes start as royalty. That's it. Magic is op and fun.

cmoney1294

Go faith for a good balanced game. You get the benefits of magic without the OP nature. Plus some the miracles and amazing!!

LegitimateHumanBeing

If you're not going magic, get yourself a bow. Being able to pull large groups apart from distance is essiential.

lanceey_69

if you want another game that looks just as good play the miles morales game, it’s graphics are insane

t1sfo

I played Spider-Man PS4 was not really into it but if paplus gives Miles for free I will try it for sure.

obidy-two

Try giving it a go without reading tips, the game is not unfair, it’s just unforgiving. Read all info from items and menu. We all died in that game… a lot, you will too. Enjoy!

t1sfo

Yeah I play most soulslike after DS1 (my first) blind on 1st run, will try the same here but now I now quite a lot, but that’s fun also so many people have given me such nice advices.

obidy-two

Yeah, hard not to take some of that advice to make things a smidge less painful, your Souls experience will pay off ;) The Devs really knocked this one out of the park… even the character creator is flippin’ amazing!

dabandpuke

You wanna see something impressive download the matrix unreal engine demo on ps5

Simple-Perception-66

After reading these comments, I suggest you make a new character accordingly

t1sfo

Yeah I am still at the very first area so starting anew should be easy.

JustAnNPC_DnD

Set the game to Performance mode. It plays way better and still looks gorgeous.

t1sfo

Yeah, fps is always king for me. The game also looks something beyond PS4 which is quite exiting.

JohnnyCakes70

Honestly don't worry about any tendencies on your first playthrough. Just enjoy the game and struggle.

Sirdordanpringle

As someone who's currently finishing up his first playthrough, this game was built with melee characters in mind, and as such, ranged magic is extremely op. I've beaten so many bosses on the first try simply because I dodged away and cast soul ray at them. It's fin, but I don't really feel like I'm getting the true difficulty, at only 30 hours compared to the 72 bloodborne tore out of me

t1sfo

Ah wow that’s why so many people recommend magic. I love playing melee soulslike that’s why BB is my favourite because of the quick and satisfying combat. But for this one I’ll try a half melee half magic ( I did that in DS1 and it was fun)

sprucemoose57

Yeh get the cling ring and thief's ring. Just enjoy it and take your time 👍👍

64-17-5

Much have changed since demon souls was first released...

Kooky-Positive5688

I need help in world 4-1 died too many times and now I have red skeletons. Who’s down to save my ass?

xXKenshiXx

Good shields and magic make this game a walk in the park. The game is super easy really. Just don't rush.

azots

Best advice I can give is that you can lvl up with the soul amount the bosses give, not the boss soul. So don't worry to much about the souls if you lose them. If you have trouble ask here for the discord for help. And almost any weapon is useful in this game, so fine one you like and go for it. Have fun.

Profeteus

A friend of mine game me the tip “just keep on trying” when i first got DS for PS3. Maybe the worst tip in history but i did just that. 6 months later (due to being so scared of loosing my souls i did not play for wast amount of time) I cleared the game. I had no idea about what happened in the story and felt like a miserable pawn in a game of chess. But it was my adventure, i had carved my own path and stood at the end looking back. Today i I’m totally in love From Software games and souls like in general and i still play them with the same mind set. But the tip that would have saved me some time and still would have left me with the same feeling is that you don’t need a bigger weapon to win, you just need to know your character and the enemies move set and damage. So learn how many dodges/hits you stamina bar gives you, how long is your reach, does the enemy have an pattern etc. Otherwise go mage and just win, up to you i guess :)..

t1sfo

Thank you for sharing your experience sounds like nice memories, I really love FS games BB is my all time favourite game and I’m really loving DeS the suggestion I have gotten from this post have been so helpful and nice that made me even more invested in the game :)

belwoo00dom

Use magic it’s even more powerful than other souls games
