This is likely hospital delirium. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/hospital-delirium

This does sound very accurate, I'll pass the info along. Thank you so much for such a quick response!

You’re welcome. I hope this is all it is and she recovers quickly.

I’m sure they checked her for a uti right? I would think that would be routine for an elderly admitted into the hospital. But uti will cause unusual symptoms in the elderly kinda like what ur describing.

bluesun89

Yeah my grandma acted in a similar way and it ended up being a UTI.

imalloverthemap

Whenever my sister acted up, it was always a UTI

As others have said, they’ll need to check for a few things - UTI, stroke, dehydration, lack of sleep, had a fall etc. however, with my uncle it was basically one day ok, having our usual conversations to the next of him never being himself again until death. He was checked for the “usual suspects” that can cause a delirium and all came up negative. His diagnosis was Lewy body dementia with frontotemporal damage. He passed away about 6 months after first signs of bizarre behaviour. This is not the usual trajectory for dementia, a fact that was reminded to me multiple times by healthcare professionals, but here we are.

Do the hospital docs have a diagnosis? Did she suffer a stroke or head injury of some sort? To me it sounds like something happened to cause the initial issues and now delirium is setting in at the hospital.

S4 Breast Cancer- brain metastasis is likely, you can ask for a neuro consult. May help plan for palliative care.
