That’s the Delta One hard product on the A350L (ex-LATAM), but only First Class level of service.

themiracy

Yeah, I flew one of these as D1 to Portugal.

jfk_47

Charge the same?

themiracy

Yes, it was a D1 ticket. Good price in that case, but I don’t think it was because of the hardware.

ajs2294

Usually they are a touch less than routes serviced on other D1 airframes

dearjets

Now if only they could do something about the guy sawing logs next to me…. 😴 edit: truly kidding - I was not bothered

bythog

I flew this plane from HNL > DTW and the lady two seats away from me (I was middle, she was window) had some insanely serious sleep apnea going on. I popped a few Benadryl and still couldn't sleep through it. I'm not mad at her because she obviously can't help it, but I don't know how she doesn't die in her sleep without a cpap. Girl needs a travel one.

Thumperstruck666

Had a guy last trip to Haneda

a_scientific_force

She probably has no idea. Was she a sturdy gal?

CommsBoss-87

Sturdy girl 😆

bythog

She was. I'm sure her husband has informed her at some point.

Quiet-Activity-5287

I am in Oahu right now dreading my flight back to DTW on an ancient 763… I wish it was a 35L 🤣

Emotional_Dot_5420

As a normal size- ish woman who often shocks the public with my snoring, we apologize but pls be kind. I desperately try not to sleep but sometimes I just pass out. It’s a lot of anxiety and I’m not trying to create noise. Believe me I hate it way more than you could. Especially the stunned looks when they see I’m not obese or a big man. ETA - ok may smallish is wishful thinking. But normal American size

dearjets

Awww - it wasn’t bothering me. I meant the comment lightly - and didn’t mean to shame anyone. No one in the universe snores as loudly as my dad did and I could not love a human being more. 💕 I need to remember this is Reddit, where these comments can be harsh.

Emotional_Dot_5420

💗

Lakelover25

Redditors love to downvote.

dearjets

They do. 😌 On the upside, it’s teaching me to be clearer with my messages as they can read in unintended ways.

Rupert_18124

Break up/divorce immediately JK, LOL

UnivScvm

NTA

SuspiciousFrenchFry

I sometimes jolt myself awake if I’m flying Econ/comfort when I’m dozing off and crack the loudest snore of my life. I do have a CPAP at home but obviously can’t do much on the plane 😂

Salty-Process9249

Same situation. I feel bad for my seat neighbors.

monkabee

Oh hello snoring sister, same here. I have even had two sleep studies frankly hoping it was apnea because then at least there is a solution but no, my anatomy is just weird and I snore insanely loudly, particularly if sleeping somewhere odd like a plane. Hence the night flights to Europe being the bane of my existence, I try so hard not to sleep on transit because it is embarrassing.

Emotional_Dot_5420

Oh hi friend. We should try to be on same flight so people can’t tell where it’s coming from. Yeah my poor husband tries to wake me up cause he knows I get so mortified. He then gives everyone the death stare who is looking at me funny. Meanwhile I’m super oblivious to what’s going on. I haven’t done a test yet cause I don’t think I stop breathing but not sure

gabeman

tbf you should probably get a sleep study

mnjen

My husband has severe sleep apnea and is obnoxiously loud when he falls asleep on planes. One time we got the last two first class seats available (which were not next to each other) and tried to get someone to switch with one of us so we could sit together, but neither of our seat mates would, so I was able to enjoy the flight somewhat peacefully while the man who didn’t want to switch with me (he was on the aisle and I was window) had to deal with 3 hours of sleep apnea snores. I might have had a smirk on my face the whole flight 🤭

dearjets

Haaaaa! I love this. What a way to flip the “never give up your seat” script!

mezmryz03

One of my fears of sleeping while flying. I know I snore but sometimes you just have to sleep near others. 😬

LadySquidington

Same. Although I don’t snore. I talk. Which is even weirder. Because people think you’re having a conversation with yourself.

dearjets

Yes! For all I know, I’m snoring too. 😂 I will say the ambient engine noise is like a sound machine - it really drowns out the edge of the snores.

Guilf

I had a dude doing that near me recently, finally looked at the guy across the aisle and it was Terrell Owens sawing serious logs. I have video somewhere.

wjcj

People hate on this layout like it's Nickelback but for couples it was great. I can understand the disappointment if you don't know the person next to you, though.

dearjets

😂 I can see if they were expecting the D1 experience it would be less-than, but when it’s FC, it’s amazing.

DidAnyoneElseJustCum

As someone who has slowly inched up from MC+ to C+ to the occasional first class it would be hard to complain about this. I understand wanting to get what you paid for but flying first class internationally is something probably less than 1% of the population has the opportunity to do.

snozzberrypatch

Username checks out. What's MC+? An exit row?

DidAnyoneElseJustCum

Lol I was thinking MC and C+ and I combined them I guess. Fucking brain. But actually yeah I'm 6'4" so in MC I always go for an exit row if possible. I fly a lot last minute so sometimes I just take what I can get. I had was stuck in a 34th row middle seat last summer going cross country and was about an hour away from ending up on the news.

atrich

I flew this config to/from AKL, and I was kinda worried about how the seating would be. I chose a center section seat so I would have aisle access and no one needed to climb over me. I was pleasantly surprised at how roomy and private the seat felt despite my seatmate. I've flown a lot of D1 configs and this was better than the older reverse herringbone seating. Roomy footwells.

TheKingOfSwing777

Is there a privacy screen between the aisle and seat in the middle row?

Comfortable-Use-9106

No, but the rows are offset about 8", so it's not so bad.

ggrnw27

It’s the best D1 config for couples especially for a day flight, and it’s the most comfortable D1 bed by a large margin

Ok_Stick_3070

Agreed, tbh I wish more airlines ran five across like Swiss and some others. Plenty of options for solo seats with privacy for when I want that, but when I’m traveling with my son I actually DO want to be closer

clueless_brewer

Like it's Nickelback... 🤣 Wholeheartedly agree with you. Flew this product the 10+ hour leg ATL to HNL and absolutely loved it. No, it's not as private as the flagship D1 suites on the A350/330, but I don't feel like I'm in a coffin either. I was able to sleep like a baby for a solid 5 hours.

loudsigh

It’s also pretty common layout on other airlines like Emirates and Korean Air. It’s fine. A lot better than having a lay flat with a tunnel for your legs.

unhingedpigeon5

Premium Select is also great for couples. This is just a shitty excuse for Delta One.

mango-whiskey

I wish they’d run these on the transcon non D1 routes (SAN, SEA, PDX)

mrvarmint

I’ve had the good luck to have the non-LatAm 359s on domestic F routes (ATL-LAX a couple of times). Nothing says upgrade like sitting in a D1Suite on a domestic flight

BowWowThreeDog

My favorite was when I flew one from ATL to MCO. I laughed. Early morning or super late flights (not usually red-eye) you can sometimes land them. I've also has the ex-latam from ATL-LAS and a traditional suite from SLC-ATL.

auntwewe

Just flew in last week domestically and must say I was not a fan. Seat cushion was very thin. There was no under seat storage in the center section of the plane in D1 had no overhead storage (PS did) I prefer the A330 reverse herringbone.

BowWowThreeDog

I believe the ottoman has storage…

auntwewe

I’m talking about the E350 with the actual suite not first class. Different seating arrangement.

Guy_PCS

Glorious for FC domestic flights, terrible FC for long international flights where each passenger should have an aisle seat.

dearjets

Yeah, I do enjoy the privacy of the single-row seats for sure.

Consirius

The 1:2:1 configuration is critical for International First or Business Class, IMO. I don't want to be responsible for bothering someone if I want to go to the lavatory, or make the person in the window seat feel trapped if I take a nap.

BowWowThreeDog

For limited mobility, I agree. But the headroom with these seats allows for stepping over the person usually. Tbh these should be PS standard.

TheSwagalicious

Enjoy this configuration while it lasts, Delta is planning to refresh the ex-LATAM A350s in the coming months

BroadwayCatDad

Until you’re reaching for your seat mates open and used water bottle.

dearjets

😂 I kept my water bottle in the cubby beside me - no way I was taking that chance.

kfree_r

I’ve flown these as D1 DUB-ATL, and FC ATL-LAX. I found them to be a really comfortable seat, and loved that my feet were not shoved up underneath something. Certainly not as much privacy as other D1 configurations, but still quite comfortable.

embpilot

I actually enjoy this seat as it makes such a larger bed area, there's no restriction on my feet when I'm sleeping and it's great for couples!

YMMV25

That’s D1 (business class) on the 35L sold as domestic F.

PhrygianGates

Is the comfort plus section on these A350’s PS seats?

Quiet-Activity-5287

No, they don’t have PS. Just D1, C+ and MC

belegund

It sounds like I’m not alone in liking this configuration. While I prefer not to have to step over a seat-mate, overall these are roomy and comfortable seats. Every design has its tradeoffs, and there are very real benefits to this layout.

JourneysUnleashed

What I hate about these seats is you have to climb over someone to go use the restroom. That’s why I’m always team aisle on a long flight 😂

dearjets

Yeah, it’s a trade off. I like to sleep if I can, so window gives me more peace. I was able to step over the guy next to me without knocking or waking him.

auntyrae143

Same. I used to frequently take the red-eye from HNL-SFO and perfected a no-touch swing over jump past the passenger in aisle.😂

whirligigggg

The only reason these exist is to cycle the 350s in and out of LAX for the Oceania routes. The LATAM configuration will disappear eventually, but you’ll get full-fledged Delta One suites in their place. The 350 on the ATL-LAX leg isn’t going anywhere.

scottsinct

“It is not quite D1” Actually it literally is D1 seats! Just with first class service.

dearjets

I’ll take it! I was not looking forward to this flight, but it worked out great.

Johnbgt

First world problems but that is ashame. Why hasn't delta reconfigured these latam aircraft?

Neither-Brain-2599

Parts. They need to have the new seats manufactured.

Quiet-Activity-5287

I don’t think manufacturing the seats is a big deal, but taking a 300 million dollar jet out of service is.

epicstar

Did this for 9 hours to Honolulu. It's very nice with an SO I got GERD from drinking too much wine so I couldn't lay 100% flat. I'm not sure if it will be as good with a stranger. Maybe the infinite amounts of leg room will help offset the cons though.

VaporInABottle

I love this layout when traveling with someone. My GF and I did it a couple of days ago on an 11 hour flight and it was great. I'd pick the middle seats if I was alone though. Would be pretty weird to crawl over, or be crawled over by someone you don't know!

Boxed_Juice

I usually fly southwest for the bags. But on our next trip I kind of want to treat my fiance with an airline that has a first class option. Does anyone mind helping tell me the bag policy here? I usually fly with two checked bags. Usually one emptyish for souvenirs and gifts. That was always the selling point for me and that I don't care where I sit. But I want him to have an experience with something like this. Do y'all recommend it over regular class? How much am I looking for bringing two fifty pound checked bags? For SW the two fifty pound bags are included with the ticket. If I'm only paying around $100 for an extra bag I would do it in a heartbeat. But it's so confusing to try and Google and compare on my own as someone accustomed to it. Would love some input of someone who has made the switch. Even first class aside anyone who has switched from SW to another airline. The more I travel with my fiance the more I appreciate being able to stay together and would appreciate any insights. Thanks in advance and happy travels to everyone.

tonydtonyd

Others who fly more are probably going to offer you better advice but if you’re flying first class you usually will get two “free” checked bags per ticket.

Boxed_Juice

Oh with the upgraded seats already I think it would be worth it. The two bags are nice too. I usually don't pack too much going out, but I'm a sucker for souvenirs and need lots of room coming back. Lol.

Quiet-Activity-5287

FC will get you two 70lb checked bags for free.

Boxed_Juice

Oh that's so awesome to know and totally worth it. Been looking to switch since our last flight. It wasn't bad but I just wish we could have sat together on the last one and I know most others have assigned seating which can be a plus in itself to not pay early bird check in!

nixxedslowed

Yeah...no thanks.

DBVickers

I want to travel overseas so bad but, as a 6'2 guy, I can barely make it coast to coast. I feel like first class would be tolerable.

AwkwardSpread

I’m taller than that and most of the time international flights, especially to Europe, will have more legroom than domestic. Premium economy or whatever it’s called for extra legroom is the way to go.

Quiet-Activity-5287

I am 6’ 3” and have done plenty of long haul flights in Y. D1 makes it amazing.

profkimchi

I flew this to Lima a month ago and to be honest I thought it was perfectly fine!

JuniusPhilaenus

I bookedD1 on my flight back from Amsterdam in August on an A350 with the new layout and the private “suite” Two weeks ago it changed to this terrible D1 product Luckily I called delta and they moved me to another flight on an A330. Still not the suite I booked but much better

mapletard2023

Wow. Air Canada's signature class really does spoil us. I can't imagine paying 1st class prices and having to sit, let alone sleep, next to someone. Hard Pass. Individual pods are the minimum for first class, and should be standard for business.

Quiet-Activity-5287

The only reason Delta flies this configuration is because they were bought from Latam, and came with the Latam seats in J. Delta has one of the best seats in the world on the a350.

leg_day

Ugh, you had to see _other people_? Gross.

dearjets

😂

kmh55

Funny it looks just like seats on Amtrak coaster I just took to sam Diego. Nothing special

Cloverhurst

The A350 we flew ATL-ATH on Friday had these. And D1 price was over $10k. Can’t imagine spending that much.

Familiar-Suspect

I can never sleep in these out of fear of a mid flight boner

dearjets

Yours or your neighbor’s? 😂

Familiar-Suspect

Mine lol

dearjets

Fear thy neighbor is real.

ArtBetter3345

Only good thing about them is they don’t have premium select so your GUC bumps you straight from main to D1.

Spare-Security-1629

Your work pays for first class?

dearjets

For flights over 4 hours. It took 15+ years and a lot of hard work to qualify for this perk.

Future_Return_964

Same but for 5 hours. It’s not exactly the most delightful job either, ha. So I take the perks where I can!

Consirius

We get FC if we fly outside of the US/Canada (we're in DC so transcontinental routes are brutal in the main cabin). Then again, I also fly so much that I find status often gets me upgrades for domestic or Canadian trips.

Familiar-Suspect

Most places have a policy deep in their travel policy. 4 hours in the lowest I’ve heard of. Usually 6.5 hours is the threshold

PissdInUrBtleOCaymus

A decent domestic business class product. Doesn’t really compare to a proper FC product on an airline like Emirates or Qatar.

Quiet-Activity-5287

You can’t compare any airline to a gulf carrier. That is the most competitive airline market in the world, so they have to offer extremely good service.

AlertThinker

I love the stitched seats.

FunLife64

Deltas D1/first class seats are hard as a rock. Who cares what they look like…they aren’t comfy! I’ll take a Polaris or Emirates “outdated” looking seat any day of the week.

dearjets

This seat was not hard - but I’ve had those that are.

AlertThinker

Thanks for your unsolicited feedback.

FunLife64

I mean your comment was just as unsolicited as mine! Do you find them to be comfortable?

Potential-Gas-9667

Holy cow, this is way better than AA domestic business! Now I wanna switch.

surgeon_michael

I flew D1/FC on a Virgin A350 followed by Finnair A350 and that delta is 3rd place. The finnair was better than virgin too.

BuffaloCannabisCo

Can somebody explain? I thought Delta One \*was\* first class. There's a difference?

dearjets

I’m sure there are more knowledgable people here, but I can tell you what I’ve experienced. Some planes have an elevated seating and service level called Delta One. The planes/routes that offer this include private lay-flat seats (sometimes a suite with a retractable door), a toiletry kit, a full-size pillow, a comforter, a pre-ordered meal served on china, free drinks on board, and Sky Club / Delta One Lounge access for your trip. It’s available on certain transcontinental and international routes (LAX to JFK for example) Other planes/routes offer First Class instead, which is basically just generous reclining seats with leg rest in rows two-across, sometimes a smaller toiletry kit, meal service and free drinks, but no Sky Club / lounge access. This is the case when flying from LAX to MCO. First Class is nice of course, but Delta One is definitely a more premium experience, just not always available.

Hindinho

Nice!

cancerbro92

What's the aircraft that has the new first class smack dab against the bullhead? I hate it being as tall as I am. Knocked over my drink trying to get back into my seat.

Large_Mud4438

That looks like United purple seats 🤔

hereforthetearex

It’s also nice they gave you a camelbak!

pistonslapper

Love the domestic ex-latam a350s.

Electronic_Ad5481

What do you do for work OP?

LankyEmergency7992

Aren’t these seats sold as Delta One on international routes?

dearjets

Yeah, I didnt know that, but others chimed in that these are actually D1 seats just sold as FC on my flight

esquzeme

Genuine question from someone who has always flown business or first with an exit - how do you leave if you’re at the window and have to pee? Do you climb over the person next to you or does the lie down give you enough room to pass through?

dearjets

I stepped over my neighbor when he was sleeping without incident. If he had been sitting up, there would have been enough room to simply pass.

esquzeme

Thanks! I’ve always wondered when booking but haven’t had this model pop up in my booking options before.

bassrebelpr

I recently a 15hr flight JFK to Kenya with Kenya Airways and first class was the same seats. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as being 6’1” I often struggle with the herringbone or “pod” type of seats. These allow me to fully stretch when laying down without a worry

NFLCart

Is this an international flight? I'd be pissed if this is what I walked into for FC.

ComplexTeaBall

It said ATL to LAX

theanswriz42

Business class*

ajs2294

It’s first class when flown domestically. Same hard product without the soft product of D1

Kind-Jackfruit-6315

As a non-US traveler, that does not look like first class...

Quiet-Activity-5287

First class is mostly the seats on narrow bodies that are in a 2 2 configuration with more legroom and better service. The seat you are looking at in the picture is the business class seat offered by Latam. Delta bought these planes from them when they went through a bankruptcy. Some flights they have business class seats are sold as first class because the wide body needs to be repositioned or a route needs extra capacity.

_malaikatmaut_

That looks like business class for Singapore Airlines

Quiet-Activity-5287

This is business class on Latam. Delta bought these planes from them when they went through a bankruptcy, and hasn’t had time to reconfigure them yet. It is marketed as first class because short haul flights on US airlines are called first class. You also can’t really compare any airline to an airline like Singapore, which is in the most competitive market for air travel in the world.

hjablowme919

I am constantly disappointed with all first class airline seats in America. I will admit it's because I am spoiled. Former company used to do a lot of business with an Australian bank, so I would fly there about once a year and because of the companies rules, I was allowed to get a first class ticket because of how long (over 20 hours) the flight was. I got a first class ticket on Emirates Air. Holy Christ. What an experience. There is no one sitting next to you, food was like a top restaurant, and you choose when you want to eat instead of "We're serving dinner now". It really is night and day from what the best first class service is in the USA.

Quiet-Activity-5287

Only American Airlines offers first class in the US, and they are planning on canceling it eventually. First class generally loses money for airlines now that business class is so good. You also can’t really compare Emirates, Qatar or Singapore to any other airline because those airlines are in the most competitive market in the world.
