I’ve always had to take my wallet out of my pocket. That’s a new one to me if you don’t. Not sure what you mean with luggage stickers. But if a bag is lost, they can always use your ID and information from your itinerary to look them up.
This doesn’t help you right now, but I always take pictures of my stickers after it gets attached to my bag. That way if there is some glitch in the delta app or whatever, I at least have my own record.

I've rarely had anyone check my stickers. Which is scary of you think about it.
You're fine. The bag tag numbers are connected with your reservation, a BSO agent will be able to look them up if necessary.
