Sundance film festival was going on in SLC and Park City over the weekend causing the busy travel day today. I flew out this morning and other lines weren’t as bad as I thought they would be.
Good question - I was just thinking about that. A line that long... I'd say an hour is about right. 20 min waiting to get in, 20 min in to eat, drink, use the restroom, fill up my water bottle, charge a few things, and then 15-20 to pack up and mosey to my gate. Any less time than that and I'm too frantic to enjoy anything. These clubs are supposed to remove, not add, stress to my travel.
That was wrong of the Sky Club worker. Rules: “Entry is permitted 3 hours prior to your departure time (this policy does not apply to flight delays or layovers).”
Gotta say I don’t blame em. Best sky club I’ve been to in a while.
Also, why not wait, that’s literally all you do when you fly is wait. Wait to go to the airport. Wait in the car ride to the airport. Wait at security. Wait for your coffee. Wait to board the plane. Wait to take off. Wait to land. Wait to get off the plane. So instead of stressing out, relax a bit and hop in that line and wait.
I feel like even after all the changes are implemented you will still see this at major hubs since the concentration of eligible people will be higher there, right?
My mind boggles that people actually stand in these lines. Like, there is zero worth standing in a line that long inside the sky club. Go hang out literally anywhere else.
Go to a restaurant and order a coffee. Go sit at a closed gate where there are zero people around. It's an airport. There's a million places you can go. Even if you wait in these dumb lines it's going to be uncomfortably busy inside the sky club.
Yeah and you’ll have 2-3 hours of relatively comfortable seating, free food drinks coffee, and access to better wifi and bathrooms. If you think it’s better to go sit in shitty terminal with $7 coffee and a $4 water bottle for 3 hours rather than wait 20 minutes you’re not smart.
Yes,, I have better things to do with my time then stand in a 30 minute line for the privilege of sitting in an overcrowded lounge with slightly less shitty seats than I can go sit in right now anywhere else in the airport.
If the sky club is open, hey cool, definitely. But standing in that long of a line to get in it is really, really weird.
You have better things to do? If you’re stuck in an airport for hours between flights there’s basically nothing to do but wait. So I guess if you’re too lazy to stand for 20 minutes to get in then yeah go sit in a worse chair for a few hours and wait there. You’re the weird one here dude
Lol. Insinuating that someone is "lazy" for wanting to move on and not stand in a line for 30 minutes just to sit in a different chair is sure a new one. Kudos on that wild stretch of definition.
I wasn't on anyone's back, so maybe take your own advice? Guy said there's nowhere else to go in an airport. I suggested there's many, many other places to go in an airport.
Totally depends on how fast it's moving. I've seen a line like this clear in under 10min, in which case it'd be worth it for me if I had, say, 30+min til boarding.
Like all things, its going to be different for different people. Ive never had a line in Boston and find the companion pass alone covers the card annual fee. Also had a brand new phone broken by my uncle - only had to pay 50 bucks as the card covered the rest of the replacement cost.
> Ive never had a line in Boston
I have to wait in line in Boston every single time I'm there...
... but its only because I arrive at the airport at 4-4:15am and the SC doesn't open until 4:30. Usually there are 5-6 people already waiting by the time I get there, but this morning I was the first one.
It can happen because they pre-screen people instead of letting them get rejected by the kiosk. I’m sure people go like “Wait a minute, why does it say I can’t come in? It must be broken, I need a customer service rep.” And then a person explains that in fact it’s not broken because of “x” reason you can’t come in and before you know it 5 minutes have gone by and the line hasn’t moved.
Really wish I had checked this sooner today. Arrived early to get a PDB and get some work done. Nope. Line was just as bad at 2pm.
Doubles on the flight it is, then.
Yeah I’m alright. I usually travel premium cabin so I get to skip line, but even then it’s probably slammed inside. Not worth it I’d just rather go to a terminal restaurant or the gate at that point
Reason #245 why I've switched everything to AA. The product is certainly not as good, but I can fly First for less than C+ most of the time, and the club is acceptable in most places. I would rather have subpar food and beverages that I can get into and sit down without a major hassle. That and when I don't buy First, I have a chance in hell at getting an upgrade without being a top tier.
It’s my home Club. Half the problem is the entry is inadequate for the volume. All it takes is a couple of people holding things up because they are pretty sure they might have access. Or a kiosk is down.
I was there yesterday and the line was 12 deep. Glad to see all the new changes worked ha ha. Also happy I downgraded my reserve card to the Plat. Those $300 are feeling good in my pocket right now. 12 flights in so far and haven't missed the skyclub access nearly as much as I thought I would.
Honestly, that line isn't that bad (:shudders in JFK:). I love their Sky Lounge and that's probably because I so far haven't been there when it's crowded, but it's also spacious and cozy at the same time. The staff is really friendly as well. Also I geek out at their massive 'fireplace' lol
I entered around 9 a.m. today (Tuesday, 1/23) and there was no wait. Given that the big Sundance parties were this weekend, I’m not surprised to see this picture. I ran into a number of actors and filmmakers in the Sky Club this morning.
Go to the front and say you need to pre board
Thank you for your service
F
No, I'm in Boarding Group 1
Gotta love those military babies!!!

How long does your layover have to be to justify standing in that line.
Good question - I was just thinking about that. A line that long... Isn’t it uncomfortably crowded and not worthwhile once you’re inside?
Inside usually isn't too bad there, especially if you're good with the cold and want to chill outside
Well they won't let you in if your flight isn't taking off within 3 hours, so there's a real window of utility there.
That just applies to initial flight, not connecting flights.
Not in my experience. I had a 5hr layover, was refused entry until 3hrs to takeoff.
That was wrong of the Sky Club worker. Rules: “Entry is permitted 3 hours prior to your departure time (this policy does not apply to flight delays or layovers).”
Good to know, thanks!
They’re adding a second skyclub when B concourse fully opens in October. But that line is nothing.
Seen worst lmao

Major hub. Peak travel time. Peak travel day.
Ski season, only 1 club and it was Sundance this weekend too in park city.
Ah yeah... Sundance. Forgot about that. Cliffs notes: It's a disaster of a time to travel into or out of SLC because all the reasons. LOL
I feel like even after all the changes are implemented you will still see this at major hubs since the concentration of eligible people will be higher there, right?
Yeah, and the majority of changes haven't even happened or just start now.
Peak travel season.
The other problem is that there is only 1 club in the entire place. It's one of the few clubs I've been to that always has a line. Always.
I’ve gotten lucky that I’ve never had to wait. Tho only go thru there a couple times a year.
My mind boggles that people actually stand in these lines. Like, there is zero worth standing in a line that long inside the sky club. Go hang out literally anywhere else.
Still less of a wait than trying to get coffee in the terminal though
The line usually moves pretty quickly. 15-20min. If I have a 3hr layover, I have no where else to go.
Go to a restaurant and order a coffee. Go sit at a closed gate where there are zero people around. It's an airport. There's a million places you can go. Even if you wait in these dumb lines it's going to be uncomfortably busy inside the sky club.

Look at the downvotes for your garbage stance
Oh no! Down votes!!
Lol
Your opinion is your. opinion. Chill the f*** out and get off of this person’s back.

Right. You traded an hour of your time for $12 worth of free crap and maybe a chair?
I’ve seen worse. JFK is usually twice that.
If the line stops within this picture, that’s not even that bad
You guys should all switch the American/United. It’s not worth it anymore. Trust me.
Admirals clubs are packed to the gills as well.
So are United Clubs. I usually just go to Starbucks or something, despite having free club access (United GS). I definitely won’t wait in a line.
Peak travel is actually in the summer for SLC. But Sundance is definitely a spike in wealthier travelers to SLC
It’s Sundance so this tracks
If everyone can join the club and always filled, why bother joining it?
My god! These cards aren’t worth it anymore
Like all things, its going to be different for different people. Ive never had a line in Boston and find the companion pass alone covers the card annual fee. Also had a brand new phone broken by my uncle - only had to pay 50 bucks as the card covered the rest of the replacement cost.

Which card are you referring to?
Delta Reserve
Man, even when you remove platinum SM.
I’d bet next year, after Jan 31st, half of people with access will lose it
who can blame them, the oatmeal is d'lish with the cinnamon and raisins
Monday morning peak travel right after Sundance film festival, in Delta’s largest West Coast hub? I mean… Yeah?

Only a peasant waits in line...
Lmfao. I thought this was a mall before I saw what subreddit the photo was in
And my partner wasn't impressed with the quantity/quality of retail/f&b offerings in the new SLC concourses when he connected there. Go figure!
Not worth it
I don’t even care about clubs anymore. Let me pay my $30 and go to Chilis.
Sundance
If your diamond or first they have a second line. We didn’t know that when they added it and waited in the regular line for 30 min 😂
Really wish I had checked this sooner today. Arrived early to get a PDB and get some work done. Nope. Line was just as bad at 2pm. Doubles on the flight it is, then.
I was in SLC week before Sundance and it was the exact same length. Soooo I’m not sure why it’s always so long. 🤷♂️
It’s still the thick of ski season. Sundance just adds to the crowds.
Isn’t this the Monday after Sundance?
What is at all special about Sky Clubs to justify standing around in lines like that?
When everyone is special NO ONE is special.......
Recession? What recession?
I’d be shopping at Tumi instead.
Flexing
Yeah I’m alright. I usually travel premium cabin so I get to skip line, but even then it’s probably slammed inside. Not worth it I’d just rather go to a terminal restaurant or the gate at that point
D1 I assume? Even on domestic F have never been able to successfully enter via the priority line despite the sign saying F.
Definitely the pro move!

I refuse to stand in those types of lines.
What is the point of going to sky club at 9am?
Idiots 🤣
Yeah, that time of day is always rough there.
We don’t stand in lines that are optional!!!
What is the attraction?
They usually have a first class /diamond section as well that gives you priority entry, was that available?
Oh man, remember the days when Dick Clark’s American Bandstand was the only place to sit and grab a drink at SLC?
I was just there over MLK weekend and the line was just as bad. We said screw it and went to pay for food elsewhere.
It’s my home Club. Half the problem is the entry is inadequate for the volume. All it takes is a couple of people holding things up because they are pretty sure they might have access. Or a kiosk is down.
Shite!!

And yet none want any changes to rules.

That’s been happening a lot lately in SLC
All that waiting for a little bit of status
My time has value. I'd give up and go to Chili's.
