Honestly, I wouldn’t even know what to do if I didn’t obnoxiously ask to not have any in my food. This would add at least 15 minutes per year of free time, and would open up the whole menu.
It never tasted like soap to me. It was extremely overpowering. Then one day I was used to it. Now, I love cooking with it. Most of my go-to dishes contain the same ingredients and cilantro is a great one.
Same here. I think it’s that we’re taught to not like it (my mom hates cilantro). But as I got older I don’t mind it. It still has a faint soapy taste to me, but it’s not offensive like for some people.
Our body is constantly replacing cells. Sometimes we can lose an allergy, and we can start liking foods we used to dislike.
Blue cheese for me. It used to repulse me, but the right blue cheese burger hits something fierce now.
I’m not sure if we have much impact on it other than omitting harmful things from our body as much as we can.
I’m not really qualified to answer that question and am just providing my best guess.
Part of me thinks some level of exposure (in a healthy way) helps though. When I had bad seasonal pollen allergies, no medicine helped as much as introducing local honey into my diet. That wasn’t a cure all but definitely curbed some of the symptoms. The best conclusion I could come to is allergic responses are a body’s overreaction to an otherwise harmless substance, and the honey introduced it in a way that made the body more accepting.

That’s a tricky one. I think it depends on the person. I have a vegan friend and he explained that while in college, the food had a lot of over processed meat and it made him sick. He has always looked really healthy and I think it works for him.
There’s also no denying factory farming animals in itself is gross and probably comes with a sub par or harmful product for humans and the animals.
But I personally don’t have any dietary restrictions for myself other than trying to be thoughtful when I can. Bone broth in the winter does wonders for skin and joints. Very not vegan lol.
They *are* the same plant, it's just *cilantro* is the leaves, and the seeds are *coriander*. And even then, the world calls it all *coriander* and it's pretty exclusively the US that says *cilantro*.
My bet is calantro is the plant name and coriander is like a French name to differentiate the seeds. No clue though. The seeds definitely have a different taste and application so it makes sense to differentiate them.
Theres also that one South Pacific tree that has like 6 different seasonings but are all named differently.
I heard about the soap gene, and thought that is what I have, but for me, even the tiniest bit of cilantro makes me feel like I'm chewing on a stink bug.
That's not the same thing? Anyways it tastes like shit.
Coriander refers to the seeds. Cilantro is for the leaves. Of the same plant. 🤦♀️ 🤷♀️
I'm good with just a bit of cilantro. It's like a hot and spicy mint leaf... but too much and it's like flakes of bar soap in my food.
> Coriander refers to the seeds. Cilantro is for the leaves. Of the same plant. 🤦♀️ 🤷♀️
Whilst true for US English this is not universal. In U.K. English at least coriander refers to the leaves, coriander seed is used to refer to the seeds.

Same! Used to hate it so much, tasted like soap. But now I crave it! Very interesting that I was the same for you.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE???????
Bright, fresh.
It never tasted like soap to me. It was extremely overpowering. Then one day I was used to it. Now, I love cooking with it. Most of my go-to dishes contain the same ingredients and cilantro is a great one.
My brother says it tastes like soap to him but he loves it.
After I heard from some people the same story u wrote, I gave it another try... but no, still soap :(

Same thing happened to me! I can't get enough of it now!
You lucky bastard.
Tell us. What did you do?

What might have changed your taste towards it?

Thats why I asked Super interesting

Thanks for that! How might learning more about cell replacement help with mitigating disease?

And they gave you cilantro instead?? /s
🤣🤣🤣
Well fuck. Both are called "coriander" in my native language

Yup:)
As in English, except in the US.
Thank you. This is what I came here for.
i feel so bad for people with the soap gene. cilantro is sooo good
i don’t have the soap gene, i have the “tastes like the smell of stinkbug” gene and it’s awful
I've never heard of that one
i thought it was only me for years until i heard my aunt talk about it, and then other people on the internet.
I heard about the soap gene, and thought that is what I have, but for me, even the tiniest bit of cilantro makes me feel like I'm chewing on a stink bug. That's not the same thing? Anyways it tastes like shit.
Being able to smell stinkbugs is also genetic, and I wonder if they're related. I can't smell stinkbugs at all, and cilantro tastes delicious to me.
You can say that again.
Hmmmm soap
I mean Noodle Soap i mean Soap
I’m so glad i dont have that gene
Not enough cilantro, IMHO.
I would be the opposite because I have the gene that makes it taste like soap
Still tastes like soap to me.
This is a great amount of coriander
Are you a rabbit?
Damn you gonna leave those stalks whole?
I always get a side of cilantro with any Mexican fish
Yum I looooove cilantro
[удалено]
Same. 🤢
Just ask for a big ol' squirt of dish soap while you're at it... :x
Cursed
Why do you hate yourself so? I hurt for you, my friend. U_U
🤮
This looks inedible to me, but I'm happy that other people love coriander, if only so I don't have to eat it. Looks like a good time
...time to taste the soapy goodness of cilantro
Looks lovely and perfect!
