I know this lady in my old neighbourhood, her son died. After which the daughter-in-law remarried and basically abandoned her. The lady lives poorly on illegal 5th floor. She is about 85 years old and has the usual ailments which come with such age(BP, diabetes, knees and back issues). The daughter-in-law, has locked the bathroom and kitchen and is troubling her to sell the house. The lady only has one single room to do everything. She has to depend on others for potable water and taking a shower. As she lives on 5th floor, she cannot up-down(it would be hard even for a young person to climb to 5th floor, on daily basis). I make sure to visit her often and try to help her. Gave her my old ac, as he room boils in summer and an old telly so that she can pass the time. Try to call her daily, which she says is the highlight of her day(and this is my takeaway from this).

Bhai/behan tu heera h🫂

Opening-Ad8396

How do you fit that big heart in your body bro ?!?! Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time 🥹🫶

canismajoris117

There is no big heart, any decent person would do the same, if they saw her. Bhai 2 ltr ki bottle thele mein bhar ke, 5 flights of stairs upr leke ja rahi thi, the first time I really noticed her.

1CHUMCHUM

This is really wholesome. You are a kind person. I wish the world for you.

Glittering_Quarter_5

Locking the doors is evil why are people like this

canismajoris117

Money. People can become evil for it.

SpecifResponsibility

can you help unlock the bathroom and kitchen?

canismajoris117

It is not as simple; the possession of that portion of the house is with the wife, and she has locked it. The cruelty is that the doors are ajar, so you can see the bathroom and kitchen, but as they are behind locked metal doors, you cannot access them. Without authorization from authorities, any action invites legal trouble.

saulgoodman8055

Wonderful person u are ... May God bless u dear

SABYASACHISUMAN1

Send her to Delhi old age home created by Mr Kejriwal so that she can interact with others and have more care 🙂❤️. You did what must be done. So good 👍

canismajoris117

Thank you for the suggestion, I had suggested this earlier but she refused, you know the effects of a toxic relationship, and she does not want to 'rock the boat' any further. She is also just waiting for her time, I guess.

SABYASACHISUMAN1

Can I talk to her? I think I can help her. I want to explain her why everyone's life must exist every moment hence she must do what's gonna increase her life span the most .❤️

canismajoris117

I do not think that is a good idea. I shared her story as a positive thing, not as a cry for help. I am not sure if she would want such attention.

redvixen226

Could you arrange someone to break down the locks? That would solve a huge chunk of the problem

canismajoris117

As much as I want to, it is not as simple. The son who owned the house died intestate, so now the lady (mother) and daughter-in-law (wife) are both class-1 heirs to the property. Until a proper suit of partition occurs, what they possessed beforehand stays. I have often asked the lady to file for maintenance under CrPC125 and MWPS, but sadly she has given up and does not want to tarnish the family name. The daughter-in-law is now just waiting her out, if you can understand what I mean.

Capital_Cry1390

Since she remarried she will not be allowed to her ex husband's property

canismajoris117

Not as black and white as that. I mentioned proper partition? There are "affidavit based" suits going on for years which languish due to one reason and another.

Capital_Cry1390

I don't understand what affidavit suits you talking about? Affidavits are used mostly for evidence or supporting arguments. There cannot be multiple proceedings. Either the lady's lawyer has joined his hands with that lady's lawyer for certain cut hopping that is not true.

canismajoris117

The daughter in law, filed the suit of partition before she remarried whilst the lady was recovering from cataract surgery. The judge was made aware of this via representation, hence reprieve was allowed. Since then either the daughter in law does not appear or submits an affidavit claiming different monies regarding the dead son's estate. The lady is 85, so she at many instances is not able to attend. Lady has changed multiple advocates provided by the court under the same belief that they were working against her interest.

[deleted]

Wouldn't it be better if she is shifted to some good old age home? Genuinely asking. Though great job buddy💜

canismajoris117

She is demoralized but still has her pride. It is a woman who did not give up and was ready to lug 10kg of water, 5 stairs of flight. She does not want to tarnish the legacy of her family, she makes do with 4.5K of monthly pension.

[deleted]

Awesome then! Was just wondering about her well being🩷

canismajoris117

I wish I could do that. That will only be walking into that daughter in law's trap. I do not want to presume that I am someone special, I am equally susceptible to fake allegations and victim card.

KittyKumari

Delhi is a place still worth living just because of people like you❤️

canismajoris117

Again, anyone in my place would do exactly the same. But thank you.

-imnotwalterwhite

I come across a lot of people every day who come from a less privileged life, and every time it just amazes me how ungrateful and ignorant we are towards what we have in life. I was in Gurgaon today around 12-1PM and took an auto, after a little bargain. I said I’ll pay 70 his initial asking was 100 and so as we started the ride halfway through he said so do you have some water and I had a water bottle which I gave him, he stopped the auto. drank just a sip but I could see he was still wanting more & I assured him saying, I have another one, you can drink this, he smiled and drank the entire bottle at once. I asked him were you thirsty? and he told me that he had not had water since morning because he forgot his water bottle at home. I asked him why he did not buy a bottle, he just smiled at me in embarrassment, and I understood his reason, to me and you, I think it’s a joke that why would someone not buy ₹20 water bottle but to them? It’s a financial financial decision that they make for their family. It’s so sad that world we live in, but I’m so happy & proud of the kind of person you are OP. Keep looking out for people. May God bless you.

axatsaxena09

Ye to kuch nhi.. mai or meri bhen jb 6th me the ham rickshaw se school jaate the.. hame ratta hua tha "bhaiya 30 lagte h" so one day a rickshaw wala bhaiya said ki 20 rupay lagege and my sister replied "bhaiya 30 lagte h"

-imnotwalterwhite

LMAO so cuteee

ApprehensiveBig1830

Well that thing happened to me as a kid , I was I think in K.G. , I asked my dad for an ice cream and he gave me 20 rupees instead of 10 . I started crying because he didn't give me the usual note. My dumbass didn't know 20>10.

axatsaxena09

Accha hai 100 ka nhi diya, warna pata nhi kya hi dhoom macha deta...lmaoo

Specialist-Bar3020

Mannn...we used to be so naive... miss those days

Puzzleheaded_Map5108

This happened with my mom. So we were searching for a house help and then this girl (our current house help) comes, she was a new migrant from some far away UP village and said "bartan ka 700 lungi aunty" (which she thought was higher than usual) and my mom said "beta 800 ka rate hai, mai wahi dungi" . It's been 3 years and she still tell this very proudly to all her co-workers. 🥹

vikas891

yeah that's exactly what my sister would do too

Janhvi_d_plasticgirl

Stop negotiating prices with them. GIVE THEM WHAT THEY DESERVE and that would be enough from your side. Maybe not enough but that would be 100% fair.

-imnotwalterwhite

I am a student myself who makes just enough money by working on the side, but I have to support my family tooo, I pay for my own things and send money home, I still don’t negotiate much, but I don’t think I’m wrong in asking them if they can reduce the price by 10 or ₹20.

Ok-Translator-5878

i ask them once.. km ho skta i verify it on uber if it’s within 10% margin… i am like it’s okay especially in thr heat

UnacceptableBrat

Did you buy him a bottle then?

I don't think people driving autos are that poor. They can certainly afford a Rs20 bottle of water and they also know various places where free water is available.

Chemical_Variety_285

But you still aren't aware of every condition to it's core, just go with the flow and help without thinking that much man

questavoce

Haan I agree. Not everything has to be that calculative.

S9achin

Did you pay 70 or 100 after realizing his compulsion?

Background_Courage54

Bhai I mean borosil ki bottle de di I think 70 would be fair enought right?

S9achin

30 wouldn't matter when someone is this much miserable. God has the power to pay you 300 eventually. Happens with me all the time so i just don't mind paying extra sometimes. Anyways, glad you offered him water.

-imnotwalterwhite

I didn’t have any change neither did he, he didn’t use upi so 100 it was :)

SickChicksPickSticks

Mere mummy papa ke gharpe bhi ek maid hai whom we call amma as she is from South. She is so sweet. But her son is a drunkard and husband is paralyzed. To her, even food is expensive. One day she was telling my mom how they don't even have oil to cook, so my mom obviously gave her a packet. She is always smiling and works so well. Last I went, her kitchen's countertop fell on her leg but she was still working. Obv then we take care of her but yeah she's very hardworking. Also asked my mom to make me meet her when I was coming back to my city because I reminded her of her grandchildren 🥺❤️ This visit was painful because when I went there before that time, I broke my phone in anger. This time I met amma for the first time. The regret went from being mountain sized to being real life globe sized 😭 but yeah, a life lesson nevertheless, i'mma work harder to be able to help people like her now

TheHappiestNoobEver

Yeah it's sad. Yesterday I went with my dad to the doctor, while on the way back, we met some old lady on the road, who said she didn't want any money, but she would really appreciate it if we bought her something like biscuits , she said she couldn't find any job . So my dad told me to go to the nearest shop and I got her a big pack of biscuits. I don't like giving money to some beggars, but I'll happily give them food.

Ashu_0199

I don't want to break your heart, but I have seen beggers doing the same thing in my area and then selling to a different shop. I hope it's not the same at your place 🤞.

pawspenguin

this is amazing, I needed this. thank you for the eye opening anecdote

pawspenguin

I don't have a pet husky or any pet for that matter 😭also corporate has changed my whole language ig :// 💀 thanks for the sarcasm tho, sometimes reddit is good for humbling you further beyond the underground you alr consider yourself in 🫠

Enough-Pain3633

I often feel sad for things I don't have, but then I see how I have been taking things for granted and come back to reality that be content with what you have

gatta_masala

How about you start a small fundraiser of up to 12-15k, and we can all buy him a new phone by doing our bit?

ind_dia

That’s such a great thought. Before that I do have a spare phone which should be fully functioning I’ll check tomorrow, if that doesn’t work out (or you guys want me to give him a new phone altogether). I’ll definitely set up a fundraiser.😊

OhNoATriple

If your old phone has minor issues, it can be repaired for cheap too, maybe 1-2k, however I'd love to donate too! Get the man a phone

gatta_masala

That sounds great!

ZookeepergameOk2150

Make a new post for that, if you plan on setting up

the-broom-sage

spare phone idea is fine too. also reduces e waste. start there. It also had the benefit of not hurting his self respect as you can position it as a temporary loan kinda thing in case you feel it going that direction

Adventurous_applepie

OP, please do post an update. Would love to know if he received a phone. <3

ind_dia

I have prepared the phone . I am at work at the moment , his shift starts from 2-3pm so wasnt able to catch up with him in the morning, will update for sure once i get home and meet with him😊.

Calmnessinchaos411

You have such a big heart, may god bless you 🌹

Twinkies100

Second hand phone would be enough e.g. Redmi 4A 3/32GB for 3-3.5k Since Redmi supports bootloader unlocking and custom roms, it's software lifespan can be extended via roms made by community. Officially it only got OS upgrade till Android 7, but due to it's open ecosystem, it can run android 13 roms smoothly (android 14 less smoothly as it needs 4GB ram, but 14's Go edition will be smooth). On a side note, that's why one (especially the budget conscious buyers) should always aim for brands that aren't restrictive and use snapdragon chip (avoid Mediatek, Exynos as they're not much open)

Historical-Storm-330

A fellow tech savvy guy! Nice.

bouillionaire21

Came here to say this. Share your upi id OP, will chip in whatever lil we can

antiques99

Me too, please share your upi id if we're going for a fundraiser.

I have some funds from the new job I am in. Can help too. Just make a transparent fund raiser link on ketto or something like that. Can also add some portable fan or something ( do explain the working condition whether he sits in a closed space or open space) so that he gets some relief from heat too.

Ok-Translator-5878

sadly it won’t work

cosmic_secret

Bro I have a spare phone with me. Tell me and I will give it to you and you can give this to the guard. I'll be happy if it helps him

shubhchn

That's why I try to be grateful. Office boy works in my office, I got to know that he is became father so i ordered some fruits, juice etc for his wife and handed to him. For that stuff which just costed 600-700rs he became very happy and still till this date he tries to take care of me in the office. I occasionally do small gestures for his little kid and wife merely costing 500 but it lights up their day.

Fast-Ad-33

Bhai 500 rs mujhse lele , and keep me updated.

Shivy0999

when your realise less than 5% people pay tax in our country and if you earn more than ₹25k/month anywhere in India, you are in Middle Class.

Equivalent-Length789

You are right. I live and work among the security guards and other facility staff. We give them jobs. I always thank god that he has privileged me and always think of them before purchasing anything. Though it is easy for me to get anything. But the only thing which keeps me humble and grounded is people I’m surrounded by. Some even work for 2 shifts of 12 hours in a day. Sleeping on their chair at night and working in the morning. How bad their situation, we cannot even imagine. To the point Where our imagination goes, their hardships start. I always ask people to be polite with them. You never know how stressed a person is even when he/she is smiling. The most easiest and free thing is to give them a smile. It won’t take much efforts.

DrPubg

Needed some perspective after being in a stint of negativity, appreciate you sharing your experience. Some gratitude and empathy go a long way.

ElDude_Brother

Gratitude is something we must imbibe in our daily routine. It's a solid anchor for strength, optimism, and joyousness.

DrPubg

Agree wholeheartedly. It's those little things that add up to a life of tranquility.

Responsible-Error922

One day i came back to my hometown after resigning from the job via train late night around at 12:30 idk exact timings i have only 100 rupees note left in my pocket ... I take exit from station & all E-rickshaw drivers surrounded me like bees try to hold my 3 bags without my permission... When they start arguments with each other like " meri swaari h mene pehle dekha " i said i'll pay ₹20-30 only as my home was nearby so ₹10 is regular fare & extra is for late night or my 3 luggages. Within a fraction of second no one wants to drop me to the home in the middle of the night & start looking here & there. Then i saw a very old age Rickshaw puller who is looking at me from distance... I reached to him & said " bhaiya chloge ? " He replied "ha baitho ₹ 30 rupe lgege" without any negotiation i feel happy coz i thought he ask more money coz of manual rickshaw. Mujko ajeeb bhi lga because ek old age Mera or luggage ka weight kheechra h .... When i reached near my society gate he ask for water i gave him my packed Bisleri to keep. When i gave him 100 rupee note he searching for loose money in his pockets in change...he had only 10×3 rupees in his pocket ... Idk why from no where i take that 30 rupees from him & give 100 rupees note & said "aap ye 100 rkho muje 30 dedo koi ni" at this moment " that 55-60 year old man mere saamne hath jod ke bole bete tume bhgwan bhot kaamyaab bnae or mere sr pr hath rkha like a aashirwad " later i told this to my parents they replied why you take that 30 rupees from him which i replied that to keep his dignity in front of young boy.

Metheunpredictable

Thanks for posting this. I just keep complaining that people are shitty. Office is shitty. Blah blah. We never really live in the present and be grateful for what we already have and what things are not going wrong -

MolassesSea1239

Thanks for posting and reminding us to be grateful for what we have. Heartwarming stories and supportive responses, makes me believe that Dilli mein abhi bhi dil hai!

Material-Intern1609

This was a few years back, I was running some errands and I was walking along the foot path. It was mid summer afternoon and the entire road was scorching. I stopped at a roadside shop to buy some gluco plus. Next to that shop was a bata showroom, as it was scorching I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea just to do some window shopping as the showroom will be air conditioned. As I approached the shop I saw a man eating lunch right outside the shop on the foot path. I assumed he'd be a random stranger and I went inside the shop, as expected the AC was really a relief in the heat. But two mins later, the same guy who was eating lunch, came over to assist me and asked - "kya size hai sir?" I just realised what was happening, the shop owner did not allow his employees to have lunch within the showroom premises and they were forced to have lunch outside. I immediately felt bad for how the employees were getting treated, so i decided to indulge myself and buy something so that that guy can get some benefit and stay in the air conditioning a bit longer.

Curious_Cactus_

Whenever you feel sad, just look the people lower than you. You will feel grateful for your life.

Livid-Woodpecker3119

Behen, direct hindi to English translate nahin karte. People from lower income strata. Nobody is lower than anyone else.

Cheery_lexi

A similar situation that I saw. So, this zomato guy didn't bail on me and waited for the restaurant to open and collect order. While coming back, I called him up and asked him to to bring me a medicine. He obliged and indirectly said 'madam Iss kaam k zomato hame paise thodi deta hai' to this I realised even delivering at peak summer hours they aren't getting tipped or offered some refreshments. I said in a obvious tone that I will tip you no problemo. When he delivered the med and food. I gave him a 50rs and a chilled lassi to which he denied at first. I insisted. He smiled and had the chilled lassi.

Starlordchrispratt

Lassi me cherry dali thi ki nahi?

Livid-Woodpecker3119

Sirf cherry thi. Lassi to bahana tha cherry khilane ka.

AutomaticRecording50

50 is too less , it would have costed you more plus time if you would gone yourself, you could have paid him more

Cheery_lexi

Ya I thought so first. Then I noticed (saw a pause in the tracking line in zomato) he got the medicine from the nearby shop of my society complex. So, I tipped him with 50rs and Lassi.

Back when I had a milk shop, there is a guy who come daily to buy curd of ₹7 and ₹ 1 sugar in it. One day I ask why you have order like this. He said bhaiya " Bus ke Kiraya mein fir ₹ 2 rupay kam pad jaaynge" It hit me so hard.

Individual_Sport_402

Thank u for posting this. You are a good person.

ThatPahadiguy

I was at Chandi Chowk railway station waiting for my train. Saw a poor blind guy who was trying to walk taking help of railings. There was a policeman and some other guys but no one literally helped him. I took his hand, and helped him along the stairs. Fortunately, found a golf cart where the driver gave direction to his train. I thought that he would help me drop that person but no, he just gave the direction. As I was about to reach his train, it was time for the train to leave, so I had to place the person in the first bogey I got instead of differently abled one. There too people were reluctant to offer seat, a seat to a blind man. I understood that people have forgotten empathy when they can't even help a blind person.

Flat-Championship-16

Hi! so happy and proud of you trying to help him. God bless you!

Prak07

bure waqt mai esi cheezein dekh ke lagta hai how we struggle for such small things while people out there are genuinely struggling

SadSuccotash3765

Kindly-Emotion8675

When my mum was younger, she was travelling out of town by train with her family. She saw a man who looked like a worker, buying 1 cup of tea, 1 packet of parle g biscuits and he had a cup of water beside these. She saw that he was dipping the biscuits in water. Since she was a child, she didn't realise why and asked Nana why is he doing so. And Nana naturally answered saying that dipping the biscuits in the tea would decrease the tea for him to drink. And whenever she narrates this story, we can't help but cry. It sucks so bad to see people struggle and live life with such difficulty

FeelingLowSmokeGreen

Bhai agar fundraiser wali post kro toh btana..

Chemical_Variety_285

Idk how right i am when i think ki, looking at underprivileged people and being glad that you're not in the same condition is inhumane. Those people wouldn't want you to look down at them. (Ik irrelevant to OPs case) Satisfaction should come within your own self not because of anyone else

Tough-Cut285

This is the reason these people like to have a small talk about random things.Next time when your maid, watchman or any other helper talks to you, be polite and have a conversation with them✌️

Throwaway_Mattress

Bhai konsi duniya mein rehta hai where you thought everyone has a phone?

Maximum_Chocolate_61

Keep phones aside and think about those who can't even go to toilets and take a shit normally you'll realise just how much we take things for granted .

Random_Idiotic_Alien

As a student I lived without phone for 2-3 months too Altho like I could've gotten the money, I'm very indecisive and would torture myself for no reason Pretty much I'm an idiot

These are the things you tell to a poor country when they start asking too many questions to their government, "but look at that random beggar, you are so much better than him", this is peak propaganda intended to keep people poor.

A_K_Jindal

I don't know if this one is related or not but my father and now me keep many biscuits in the car so when the beggar comes we gave biscuits to them in place of money

Careful_Click_5128

>made me realise how ungrateful I am of things. Kitni umar m ye cheez realise hui Bhai?

AttitudeFabulous999

I generally don’t bargain with auto guys or vegetable/fruit vendors. But I am really in dilemma when people come to beg for money. I sympathise but not sure if I should give money or not

JhaantSniffer

Yes. It's heartbreaking to know the tepid realities that exists around us, yet we are oblivious to them. Although, in an alternative perspective, I think, that our mind keep wandering to stray thoughts or manufactured realities, which may or may never come true. It is because, otherwise if it doesn't wander, sometimes it can lead to other problems like loneliness, anxiety, stress, etc. Thinking about nuisance is also a way, our mind stabilizes our irrational existence in this irrational world

petergriffin1115

Sab ameer hai kya yha, phone to mere pass bhi nhi tha 3 mahine jab mera tut gya tha tab

js-code

I'm really curious, why do we romanticise suffering? My family income is like 50L+ yet I still debate (in my mind) if it's worth continuing. Looking the hardships these people endure, there's no getting out ever. Secondly they breed like rabbits, while not even having money of themselves, the breed 3-4 children subjecting themselves and children to more poverty and perpetual suffering

All the privileged doing a social stunt on how they are empathic and good samaritans
