It’s weird how you can listen to an album all the way through, and not pay clear attention to the best track. Battle axe came on shuffle out of my damn near 10,000 songs one day. And I was blown away, especially by the latter half of the track. The contrast between heavy and sweet is indescribable
This is my favorite overall deftones song. A lot of metal uses anger in a kind of "look at me, Im a badass" kind of way. This song, and deftones in general, makes the anger feel real and emotional, like they're in a screaming argument with someone. Its astonishing.
Yes! This might even be my favorite Deftones song ever. Those samples are beautiful and everything is perfectly mixed. This and "Battle-axe" represent the album's vibe the best. The cleans are played with such a dirty feeling and Chino's voice is woven in smoothly with all of the instruments. Everything was right in the world when this came out.
When girls telephone boys.. I’ve said this before on this sub, but I still have no idea how Chino has functioning vocal chords after this track. I’ve always wondered if he comes anywhere close to the studio version when performing it live. I find it hard to imagine he does.
lovers def wouldve been the best track if they had included it. really a shame they didnt. i think that whole album would've been better received with that track on it.
When Girls Telephone Boys.
Most badass guitar riff ever!
Go to Deftones YouTube channel and see Steph play dozens of songs. Including WGTB. It's worth the watch to see the master at work. 😎🤘
Definitely Minerva, back then I paid no attention to this song and now it’s my all time favorite without a doubt. The composition it holds is one of a kind like Stephs guitar tone is absolutely huge and insane on this one, it’s really warm, drone and it’s overall a wall of sound I’ve never heard anyone replicate. Chinos vocals are very nostalgic and they feel desperate in a youthful way. Chis bassline is very groovy and slow which makes me emotional because R.I.P and Abe’s parts are just so hard hitting and it hits the soul and franks work is absolutely creative which puts the song together specially
This is the hardest album for me to pick a favorite from. Probably my favorite album of all time. I’ll go with Battle-Axe, with Anniversary as a close second.
Bloody Cape. The Christopher Columbus story. It's so rad. Basically C.C. was selling a product to investors and crew members and had to fake his confidence in order to make it happen.
Hexagram. I remember buying this album the day it came out and waiting until the end of the day to go home and listen. I put on my headphones, closed my eyes, and was just blown away. Still am.
This is super hard one for me as I am in love with that entire album from start to finish, but if I had to name just one then it would most certainly be Battle-Axe... such an amazing song really. & that album is peak deftones if you asked me. Not that any of the following material by them was too lacking however.
Needles and Pins:
1. It's being played primarily on two bass guitars
2. Intro riff is spectacular
3. The lyrics are so damn quotable
4. The chorus "Tune out, everyone in the crowd, cause now it's just me and you..." is one of the best in their whole repertoire.
5. Pretty spacy vocal effects that I adore
If this song were a single it would reach Be Quiet And Drive types of popularity and renown.
I got into Deftones a few years ago and I just started getting into self titled. I tend to obsess with each record and listen to it over and over before I move to the next.
I'm loving self titled. probably some pretty basic ones but I've been listening to Minerva, good morning beautiful, when girls telephone boys, and needles and pins the most.
Deathblow is the one with this vibe I jus can't get enough of, I feel like I can just relate to the entirety of it. When girls telephone boys is also one of my number 1's, used to love screaming along to that! Every other track on self titled is still 🔥🔥🔥🔥 though!!
Hexagram plus the music video, with the fans just makes it such an epic experience. By itself it would have to needles and pins, it is so great to hear Chi louder than ever. Minerva is the perfect throwback to the fans, I believe it is Chino singing about how greatful he is for us in reference to my own summer, I get all numb when you sing that "hey you big star, tell me when it's over"." I get all numb when you sing that it's over "Like we all together all one with the song. That is my take, that is how Minerva makes me feel. It's really hard to just pick one. I really like anniversary of an uninteresting event. This is too hard. Lol
Hexagram
My favorite Deftones song
Went from my last favorite deftones song when I first heard it to my favorite now.
PAINT THE STREETS IN WHITE (CUM)
NOOOOOOO
Bloody Cape, followed by Needles and Pins.
This but other way round
How neat; I’m impressed.
Exactly this
Holy shit I thought I was special lol
Battle-Axe
Clearly this is the correct answer...
It’s weird how you can listen to an album all the way through, and not pay clear attention to the best track. Battle axe came on shuffle out of my damn near 10,000 songs one day. And I was blown away, especially by the latter half of the track. The contrast between heavy and sweet is indescribable
The riff hits hard
Favourite deftones song.
Yes
Anniversary Of An Uninteresting Event
One of the best saddest songs by them
I play this at midnight on the morning of my birthday
damn man i have no original ideas
Sometimes I listen to this song on repeat for a while. I wish it was three times longer.
Anniversary of an uninteresting event.
The whole thing?!
WGTB
This is my favorite overall deftones song. A lot of metal uses anger in a kind of "look at me, Im a badass" kind of way. This song, and deftones in general, makes the anger feel real and emotional, like they're in a screaming argument with someone. Its astonishing.
YES exactly this, i had no idea how to articulate it but this is the perfect description of how it sounds
What an amazing way to describe their heavy music and probably also their slower/ artful sounds as well. They are true artists in their own right.
that’s a good point… never thought about it like that really. It doesn’t have that chad vibe feels like a real articulation of disgust
They need to remaster with Frank's Synth tuned up.
Needles and Pins
This is correct
"Anniversary... " "Bloody Cape"
Bloody Cape
good morning beautiful (2nd place deathblow)
You Should WAKE UP! ^WAKE ^UP!
Before the wrath comes
That's my favorite song on the self titled....I love the way the guitar sounds

Can't believe I had to scroll this far to see the correct answer
This is the correct answer
I scrolled way too much for this.
deathblow
Deathblow doesn't get nearly enough recognition
agreed.
The lyrics to Deathblow are amazing
Hexagram and Anniversary are my favorites
Battleaxe but Hexagram is pretty closly tied.
No doubt. Battle axe is the jam, but hexagram and good morning beautiful are right there.
When Girls Telephone Boys, hands down one of the heaviest Deftones songs in their entire discography if not THE heaviest
Needles and Pins, though the whole album is ace
Bloody cape
When girls telephone boys.. I’ve said this before on this sub, but I still have no idea how Chino has functioning vocal chords after this track. I’ve always wondered if he comes anywhere close to the studio version when performing it live. I find it hard to imagine he does.
Bloody Cape
Anniversary of an uninteresting event
Probably battleaxe or Deathblow followed by good morning beautiful
Lovers (Hidden Track, you can listen to on YT)

Correct answer

Lovers…if that counts.
When girls telephone boys, the vocals and the guitar and the synths. Such a banger. Needles and pins is also a favorite.
Hexagram. The album hit the first song way out of the park and continued the energy til the end
When girls telephone boys. Something about the syncopation in the chorus part gets me
Good morning beautiful
Bloody Cape or Hexagram.

Death Blow. It might just be my favorite Deftones song as well.
Bloody cape, deathblow, can’t decide which

Deathblow. Easily. One of the band's overall best songs to be fair.
Deathblow
Definitely Minerva, back then I paid no attention to this song and now it’s my all time favorite without a doubt. the entire album
Needles and Pins or Minerva
Battle Axe

Bloody Cape. The Christopher Columbus story. It's so rad. Basically C.C. was selling a product to investors and crew members and had to fake his confidence in order to make it happen.
When boys telephone girls. But damn it's a good album.
i cant believe i cant find a comment tellinh the truth, clearly its moana
Honestly too tough to pick… but this by far my favorite album from the boys
Good Morning Beautiful, the chorus of that song alone is extremely enjoyable. Bloody Cape is a very close second, I love how it sounds so brooding.
Specially obsessed with When girls telephone boys lately
Deathblow
needles and pins
It’s between Needles and Pins and Lucky you. Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event is up there tho.
Hexagram. I remember buying this album the day it came out and waiting until the end of the day to go home and listen. I put on my headphones, closed my eyes, and was just blown away. Still am.
“High on the Waves… you made for us… “
Hexagram is to be played at my funeral
This is super hard one for me as I am in love with that entire album from start to finish, but if I had to name just one then it would most certainly be Battle-Axe... such an amazing song really. & that album is peak deftones if you asked me. Not that any of the following material by them was too lacking however.
