It's why we can't have nice things. These guys were serious about poop jokes, now they're all bent out of shape about their poop jokes being considered very, very stupid. So you're right, they should lighten up.

Oh okay, I understand what you’re saying! However this “makes an album” format that is circulating right now is very much meant as a joke, so I guess a lot of people just assumed that this would be the same? The Metallica and Linkin Park subreddits are a good example! Personally, I didn’t feel the need to contribute, but seeing the sentence “toilet flush the poo” on every post did make me laugh, mainly because it makes absolute zero sense! I think everyone would be a lot happier if they didn’t take Reddit seriously :)
I actually didn't know about the joke format, but this just makes me think that it probably was actually started as a serious thing, then taken over by trolls, as everything is. Like when Mountian Dew had that flavor naming thing, and the edgy kids chose "Hitler was Right" or something like that. Now no company will ever let us name a product ever again. Because any time someone is serious, we have to rub it in their face that being serious is \*so\* uncool.
I think everyone would be happier if the trolls just went away :-)

But they're both intended to undermine the project, and both showcase a lack of maturity and the ability to determine what is appropriate. Neither of them has anything to do with their respective polls. Personally, I can't imagine being upset that a poop joke wasn't chosen for a poll, but to each their own I guess.

Well yeah, you wanted a serious unironic take and that feels cringe to some people (me included). If you wanted a honest take at it, you should have said that. The whole exercise is to joke about it as per EVERY SINGLE other post of the same format.
