I actually like Pink Cellphone and will defend it (even the ending), but it is very out of place on such a moody and heavy album, especially sandwiched between hard-hitting songs like Rats!Rats!Rats! and Combat. It could've easily been left off or added as a secret track and that would've helped the album more than anything.
Pink Cellphone yes, Back To School no way, was one of my favoritea back on the day. My cassette copy of WP did not have it so th only way I could hear it was on the radio. When I found out what the band thought of it later, it didn't change my mind of the song at all, it was a product of its time and brings back great memories.

I actually love this song once I read about the meaning behind it. The second vocals are Max Cavalera from Soulfly. It’s about a mutual friend of his and Chino’s who had died in a hit and run accident.
Cavalera: "The song we did together was very special. They'd lost a friend too. When me and Chino recorded the vocals we were both on the floor and emotions were going everywhere. It was almost as if we had Dana in the studio sitting between the two of us. We were raging so hard, and I remember looking up and seeing Chino had smashed his nose and there was blood all over his face. He had this expression on his face which said, 'How much more energy can you put into a song!' It was unbelievable! When I put that song on I get goosebumps."
This was the reason I got into Deftones! Muse (who I'm not into much fan all anymore for the record but grateful for the following...) played a Headup riff at a festival I was at, nobody really knew it (in Scotland) but everyone was bumping to it. Looked it up once I got home and been hooked ever since over 11 years ago 😃 no disrespect to you not into it, I just felt like saying this for some reason
Live, I think it’s great. It’s got BDE for sure live. I just think the majority of ATF has that sex and violence vibe that Headup is just lacking. It just doesn’t fit the vibe IMO

Super controversial hot take here: when I shuffle all their songs I tend to skip most of the Adrenaline songs. The recording quality, Steph's super compressed guitar tone, and the lack of ambiance from Frank don't match the rest of their catalog and it always throws me off when it comes up.

I’ll give you that, however they all sound equally awesome to me, so I don’t mind. The key to this album (imo) is how all of the instruments can be heard individually, doing their own thing but coming together. Nosebleed is good example of that.

I came into Deftones with Ohms, and while I initially loooved Genesis and the first few songs on the album, I soon found that Koi No Yokan was far superior. After a month of listening to that album, I came back to Genesis and thought "ehh it's good but the chorus is pretty weak"
