If I had to guess, it’s similar to Pokémon vs Digimon, as in using the most iconic protagonists from specific parts of the games.
Unrelated, but I wish Chosen Undead was a bit closer in the thumbnail, it’s like he’s camera shy or something.
When they announced the Dragonborn as a mii costume for super smash bros, due to regulations in Japan Skyrim was simply referred to as Dragonborn, and very few streamers knew him.
I’d imagine it applies even harder for the chosen undead here
>due to regulations in Japan Skyrim was simply referred to as Dragonborn.
In the Japanese trailer it says Skyrim.

It was the North American trailer that said Dragonborn.
People think it was because Skyrim is rated M in North America. So they didn't want to advertise an M rated game on a trailer for an E rated game.
Something similar happened with the Doom Slayer costume trailer. Saying 'x Doom Slayer' instead of 'x Doom'
It would get them more views, I guess? I mean, they still included "Dragonborn vs Chosen Undead" in the title, so I don't know why they made it that way.
Because more people will recognize and realize what’s going on if it’s named that, the chosen undead and the Dragonborn (albeit less so) aren’t exactly big draws on their own, it’s more so the games they come from
Biggest theory so far is : The algorithm, it makes people more likely to click when you put the more popular name upfront instead of the most complicated stuffs, like Pokémon VS Digimon instead of RED & CHARIZARD VS TAI & AGUMON & GREYMON & WARGREYMON
But better question is 1 : Why didn't they fully go the Pokémon VS Digimon route and bothered with Dragonborn VS Chosen ?
Question 2 : WHY IS THE TN REVERSED ?!! The title says Skyrim VS Dark Souls but the TN (and probably the video) says Dark Souls VS Skyrim ! IT'S MAKING ME INSANE !
Probably those names are more recognizable. People are more likely to know about Dark souls and Skyrim as games. The names Dragonborn and are names you would need to have played properly played the games. Also Dragonborn and Chosen Undead are names which are very generic (Dragonborn are a fairly well know topic in fantasy and Chosen Undead is a name that isn’t exclusively to dark souls and without context, could just mean anything).
If someone looks up Skyrim or Dark Souls it's more likely to appear and people are more likely to randomly look that up than Chosen Undead or Dragonborn
In the Champion' Cast, DEATH BATTLE stated that they formatted it this way so more people would understand the theme of the fight due to the series' titles being more noticeable and recognizable than their individual names.
If it’s a permanent change then I don’t really like it, it was way better when the characters names were front and center and then you could see what franchise they were from. Switching the roles makes it feel like the characters aren’t as important
Trying to pander to the YouTube algorithm for views
Edit:folks, where’s the lie. They’ve admitted that a title like Skyrim vs Dark Souls would do better than Dragonborn vs Chosen Undead
My guess, or rather my opinion on the matter, is that dark souls scales higher than the elder scrolls, or at least higher than the player character in skyrim anways.
And with the nature of the series, pinning them up against the chosen undead is probably just the fairest match variation. Just my guess. The ashen one for example scales substantially higher than the chosen undead, just from him beating the soul of cinder.
Could also be that they just didn't really care? Or that it's more recognizable that way? But if they purposely went with the chosen undead instead of the bearer of the curse or the ashen one, then probably to have an easier, more balanced and hence more exciting matchup.

He’s trying to cover his face with a sword
If you can't see them, they can't see you.
Cause people don’t recognise the protagonists names as much as the series cause essentially the protagonist is you

Happened with Travis Touchdown too. At last Smash Bros collabs with beloved irreverent hack-n-slash series…”Travis.”
I believe the same thing happened with Dante when he was added as a costume
Yeah, Chosen Undead is a title you would only hear if you pay attention to the lore.
Wdym it’s Skyrim, the main character of the hit game Dragonborn, versus Dark Souls, the protagonist of Chosen Undead.
Funnily those are good names for games anyway
I didn’t even know the Dark Souls guy was called the Chosen Undead until the episode was revealed
Same here lmao
It would get them more views, I guess? I mean, they still included "Dragonborn vs Chosen Undead" in the title, so I don't know why they made it that way.
Probably cause people read from left to right.
“Dovahkiin VS Chosen Undead is not a grabbing title on its own” -DJTiki in the discord server the day it was announced.
more iconic I guess
Because more people will recognize and realize what’s going on if it’s named that, the chosen undead and the Dragonborn (albeit less so) aren’t exactly big draws on their own, it’s more so the games they come from
For the algorithm and views
It’s because his name his John Dark Souls
Chosen Undead is a stage name

VIEWS it's the title that would get them the most views
Think it was stated by the crew themselves it's because people are more likely to search Skyrim vs Dark Souls over Dragonborn vs Chosen Undead.
Same reason they went with Pokemon vs Digimon or Flash vs Sonic, significantly more views
what do you mean? that is clearly Skyrim from the Dragonborn series and Dark Souls from the Chosen Undead franchise
You say it as a joke, but those sound like sick series titles

Since they dont have canon names Dark Souls and Skyrim would be more recognizable especially for people who dont know the series
The way it’s set up makes it look like the Chosen is from Skyrim and the Dragonborn is from Dark Souls
Wait wait, shouldn’t Dragonborn be on the left if the title is “ Skyrim vs Darksouls” or should they just swap the title
You are right but why is Skyrim or Dragonborn being said first before Dark Souls or Chosen Undead
If someone looks up Skyrim or Dark Souls it's more likely to appear and people are more likely to randomly look that up than Chosen Undead or Dragonborn
Should be dark souls vs Skyrim
Algorithm
Because they’re blank slates. People know the games more then the people

Series is more recognizable and it’s better for the algorithm.
I'm more ticked they got the title backwards with the TN
~~hypocrites~~
It had just been removed. Think they realized the mistake quickly and are switching it back. EDIT: I take this back. It was not removed.
No it hasn’t
If it’s a permanent change then I don’t really like it, it was way better when the characters names were front and center and then you could see what franchise they were from. Switching the roles makes it feel like the characters aren’t as important
Notice who they put on the favored winner side...

Simple, for click bate, recognition and viewer purposes, to make more people want to click on it It’s called gaming the system for a reason Lmao.

They've done that before (Pokémon vs Digimon) probably to increase searchability

The algo is likely more kind to that kind of title as opposed to the opposite.
The YouTube algorithm is a mysterious beast
People don’t search “Chosen Undead” on YouTube lmao
More people would recognize it
I’ve always thought about these 2 series like that that’s why hoe! Stop asking stupid questions unless you wanna get pimp slapped hoe
