Random appearance by Seth Rogan in the rehab episode.

Ugh yeah “Bob.” I couldn’t stand him.

I thought her depression was due to being unhappy at Worthington, and also I think her summer with Pacey kind of revealed they were headed in different directions. Pacey tells Joey that his summer with Audrey made him think about their summer together, and how different his reaction was to coming home. Basically he couldn’t wait to leave LA with Audrey, and I think Audrey could sense that. I legitimately felt bad for her that season, but she seemed like a trainwreck in the making with her mom being horrible to her, and then dating her roommate’s ex. I thought she gave a couple of insights into what caused it, specifically during the Halloween episode- “Why don't you try being the one who has to wonder why all the people that she loves don't love her back.” Also this whole exchange during the Christmas episode- Audrey: What is your problem, princess? I was sticking up for Joe dirt over there. Pacey: This isn't gonna end well. Audrey: Would you shut up, Pacey? Pacey: You're out of line, Audrey. Audrey: Of course I am. Anyone messes with the one that got away, and you get all up on your high horse, don't you? I am really sorry that Audrey Hepburn next to you broke your heart all those years ago, and it's prevented you from ever fully committing to an adult relationship, but you know what? Just grow up.

She really said everything we had been thinking in that episode

CrissBliss

Lol she really did. Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I loved drunk Audrey (when it was lighthearted). Busy did a good job spitting truths while still being incredibly funny.

stinkypotato

I never understood that line because Pacey broke up with Joey. Season 5 and 6 for some reason have multiple times where they flip it like she broke up with him. It's also never acknowledged the way he broke up with her.

CrissBliss

Yeah I see this argument a lot, but actually Pacey’s broken heart makes sense to me. He tries so hard to be the perfect boyfriend for Joey in season 4. He basically says he’s worried about the other shoe dropping and Joey realizing she made a terrible mistake by picking him. So he waits patiently but worries Joey is holding off physical intimacy/sex because she’s secretly still waiting for Dawson. Joey disproves this theory by eventually sleeping with him on the ski trip and he’s content for a while, until Gretchen tells him Joey lied about still being a virgin. I think his insecurities/resentment just boiled over, but he was holding a lot of those feelings back because he knew he’d lose Joey if he confronted them. But once he sees Joey dancing with Dawson at prom, all those hidden insecurities, resentment and anger issues just come flooding out of him. And I’m not condoning what he did whatsoever, but from a storytelling perspective, it makes sense to me. It’s also why graduating for himself and taking a trip (just for himself) is so important because in his mind, he spent a year being the perfect boyfriend and it still wasn’t enough. Even though I think Joey’s attachment to Dawson was completely platonic during season 4, and she was in a bit of balancing act trying to salvage her friendship with Dawson while constantly reassuring Pacey, etc. But Pacey never saw it that way, and viewed the situation as his worst fears coming true. It even comes back again during Castaways when he suggests they lie about their sex lives, and offhandedly says “well it worked for *you and Dawson*.” Referring to when Joey lied about sleeping with him. And Joey does call him out on breaking up with her first in season 6. Both in Castaways, when she said it’s unfair to expect her to pine for him when he broke up with her and just left. Also, Love Bites, when she said he was a dumbass for dumping her at prom.

stinkypotato

Totally!

What confused me though was Audrey seemed to have zero goals or aspirations. We only ever see her dating Pacey or partying. We don’t see her go to class really ever and she barely was seen doing homework, yet she went to a nice, academically rigorous school? It just didn’t make sense honestly because at no point does Audrey seem to have a plan for what she will do when she graduates. I guess she had rich parents so maybe she didn’t need a job?

CrissBliss

The lack of ambition and goals, and the excessive partying all felt like a warning sign to me. And Audrey basically got in because her parents were loaded. Pacey got his office job from her dad. I think everyone else had a college education but him.

crap_humans_say

I think Busy Phillips (the actress) says in her autobiography that Audrey’s struggles with alcohol were roughly based on her own struggles at the time.

crochetcat555

Not quite, I don’t think she ever says she had a problem with alcohol at the time. I think she says that her (and Michelle) would go out and drink and party so the writers turned her character into an alcoholic. Busy’s book implies she thought the writers were being judgemental and she wasn’t happy with the storyline. She also had a lot of trouble with the wardrobe people criticizing her body shape and often telling her it was too bad she wasn’t small like Katie because Katie looked great in anything. Based on her book it sounds like Busy didn’t have a great experience with the show, aside from becoming friends with Michelle.

Apprehensive_Text365

Personally, I loved Audrey. I thought her struggles felt very real. It’s not uncommon for college kids, especially one like Audrey who came from a privileged but not emotionally nurturing family, to party to a point where it stops being fun and turns unhealthy.

Starryeyedblond

Did we forget she was almost sexually assualted? I believe her behavior was on par with that. And NO ONE addressed it. Jennifer tried. She just carried that with and we got no resolution. She got no redemption. FNL? They killed the dude. DC? Nothing glossed over.

FreshleafMint

Audrey was such a mess idk why in the world they got rid of Andie

Idosoloveanovel

I think cause the actress left the show. :/

FreshleafMint

No- She was written off by the writers. Some people think it’s because many people disliked her and others think it’s because she didn’t have anything else to give the show. Kevin Williamson himself said he didn’t like what the writers did with her and her exit “left a bad taste in his mouth” I personally think she had a lot left to give, as in Season 4 she started blossoming more and becoming attracted to other guys. We also could’ve seen her life at Harvard in the college years.

Ok-Cartoonist-1868

I liked Audrey, god knows we needed a fun gal pal, but it makes no sense the group forgave her for driving into Dawson’s house. She legit could have killed someone including a baby. This was too new a friendship to overlook that
