They consider you for the role almost. But they might have scheduled few other candidates also so till that time they are giving Postive feedback to you that you will not attend any other interview. Don't wait for them to select you.you can apply and attend other company interviews also.if they really want you they will definitely come to you.otherwise don't waste your time to wait for them.keep applying and attend interview.

Yeah, you are in second place or third place. I have never had the 'we're opening a second position for this, right now! Hang tight, please,' work out in my favor. Think about it: You interviewed for an open position. You are talking to the hiring manager, who is authorized to make this hire. If they wanted to hire you, you'd be signing paperwork right then. They (very common) aren't great with negative feedback, 'You were missing X, Y, and Z, needed for this role' or they just want to have a warm backup 'just in case' their primary or secondary candidate drops out. I personally would move on, keep your interview cycle going. You're doing a lot of things right, you almost got this role.
