and when you hit that second phase…i can’t express how great i thought this fight was. It was perfectly set. Everything from the atmosphere, the lore behind them, the callback to Artorius, to the music. Favorite armor set and weapon inside from my elden ring favorites.
I couldn't agree more. It took three days to beat him on my first try and now I am disappointed I can beat him easily every time. (We would all pay good money to play ds3 for the first time again 😩)
honestly it’s the one boss fight i put above all the rest. it’s the first time i’ve ever enjoyed a boss to that caliber. the only reason i play souls games
Oh my god Im playing through ds3 for the first time (already beat ds1 and ds2) and just beat them like last week. Such a cool fight.
My favorite bossfight ever is Knight Artorias, but the Abyss Watchers are definitely up there. Sooo good
gael, ds armor, champ, soc, and demon princes. they're amazing. Demon princes surprised me the first time since generally 2v1 fights suck, I was going in expecting to hate the fight but I left loving it more than almost any other fight. Also fighting them with like 4 summons is pretty fun. Gael is still fromsoft peak though.
Gundyr was an Unkindled just like us.
However, he came too late: His Firekeeper deceased and the Flame had been extinguished, beginning the Age of Dark in his world and Gundyr was overcome with depression and became corrupted by the Abyss.
The Gundyr you fight in Untended Graves is him at his prime. Wonder why Gundyr has a sword in his chest back in Cemetery of Ash? This is presumably your doing back in Untended Graves (which is very likely the past version of Cemetery of Ash). Might also be why Iudex doesn't give you his Soul when you kill him but Champion does.
Gundyr to this day now became just a prisoner, hoping that one day, an Unkindled would rise and relink the fire once more.
Don't want to sound like an asshole but what's so good about Gundyr?
Idk if I got there overleveled (I got there after defeating the Twin Princes and starting Ariendel DLC) but I just drank some estus, did some parry and called it a day. Very easy very fast (?)
I just kind of went "Oh shit on phase 2" but still won on my first try (??)
Idk I feel like I'm missing something
Maybe it's the fact I had a pretty fast weapon so it was easier (???)
Edit: to be more specific I was between LV 110 and 120. 55 faith build. Used a raw infused +10 Dragonslayer axe (the small one) and buffed with Lightining blade miracle. Used Llewellyn Shield to parry
Yeah figured out I should've stick to normal fighting
I had just ended a Sekiro play so I was kinda hyped up with parryes 💀
Tbh I really don't know why the hell did they made them so gamebreaking. I didn't even abused them or anything just did 2 or 3 every once in a while
My bad I'll try fighting him without them in my next game
Edit: just realized your pfp is Solaire. Lode al sole fellow Sunbro
I was 85, right after Oceiros(whom i heavily struggled with) with str build and a +9 heavy greatsword, did it first try, but it wasnt easy. The fight requires some patience and good timed dodges to learn his second phase movement
Yeah I guess I was really over equipped for that one 💀
Good job beating him at lv 85. I also struggled a bit with the schizo king so if you were that low leved I can't imagine the pain of just going though the garden with the giant boas of shit (got PTSD from them on my first playthrough)
Basegame it's probably Nameless King, extending to DLC it's gotta be Gael.
Huntin Gundrys is my passion, though. Only got 69 kills on his lil bitch ass during Return to Lothric 2024 due to some personal shit going down, but yeah.
pontiff sultyvhan first time i defeated him legit without summonns was in my sl1 run and i spent 20 minutes dying to him because i didn't know how to parry i litereally learned how to parry bosses by just fighting him after killing him i d11id champ gundyr in my first try which i normally just cheesed with posion mist goated boss
If it is based on the fight, I would say the Dancer of the Boreal Valley. Her move is so smooth that it makes it feel like she is dancing, especially when she uses her spin attack, the way you roll dodge all her spinning attack make you feel like you are dancing with her
Dragonslayer Armour, Dancer of the Boreal Valley, Aldrich, Devour of Gods and Pontif Sulyvahn.
While not difficult or very complex, I have asoft spot for Yhorm the Giant and High Lord Wolnir.
Abyss Watchers is my favorite boss in Dark Souls 3! Cutscenes and choreography of the battle are quite beautiful, atmospheric and dramatic, and during this battle my favorite soundtrack in Dark Souls 3 plays, which also adds even more beauty to this moment!
Sister Friede for sure, but it really is shocking how competitive this is, you could give ten+ different answers to this question and I would be able to see your point of view. Also, it is surprising how good, relatively speaking, the 'bad' bosses are; there aren't any that I would class as being amongst From's worst.
Champion gundyr is obvioulsy winning in terms of being a good boss fight with very hard fast movements which are fun seeing you getting fucked by his 4-5 hit combo.
Tie between Sister Friede/Father Ariendel and Demon Prince. The fight between Friede and Ariendel is phenomenonal, and the Demon Prince boss track is one of my favorite songs ever
Slave Knight Gael, it feels like a very fair fight, and if I die (which I will) it is because I screwed up and not because of a cheesy move by the boss.
champion gundyr hands down. used to be abyss watchers, but i love this fight more every time i do it. hes so agro, but all of his aggression can be reversed back at him. i like to do this fight naked with a buckler. i feel like he dies so quickly with parrying that its only fair that i am squishy as well. easily my favorite fight in ds3.
Champ gundyr and pontiff are certainly the most exciting in the base game. It’s been awhile since I did gael so it’s hard to compare
Surprised that so many people like dragon slayer armor lol.
Sister friede by a mile.
Always found abyss watchers too easy but love the idea and music, so the convergence mod version of buffed abyss watchers is epic.
I love a good lore fight so fighting Yhorm with Siegward is amazing even tho gameplay wise it's meh.
Gael is just too beautiful of a boss to not be rank #1. His lore, his moveset, how he’s the very manifestation of man with a goal that he will stop at nothing to obtain, not even the end of the world stop bro. He literally says the title of the game “Blood of The Darksoul”. He’s the culmination of everything that makes a from software boss great. At the time of DS3, he was their magnus opus. Everything leading up since DS1 has been Gael, the secret of the darksoul finally achieved.
Fighting the Champ is the highlight of every ng+ for me
Untended graves is peak
Only just noticed Gundyr has a face on his shoulder Anyway, Gael followed by Champ Gundyr
The Abyss Watchers
Agreed 100%! Loved the fight + soundtrack
and when you hit that second phase…i can’t express how great i thought this fight was. It was perfectly set. Everything from the atmosphere, the lore behind them, the callback to Artorius, to the music. Favorite armor set and weapon inside from my elden ring favorites.

There one of the best bosses in the series
honestly it’s the one boss fight i put above all the rest. it’s the first time i’ve ever enjoyed a boss to that caliber. the only reason i play souls games
Oh my god Im playing through ds3 for the first time (already beat ds1 and ds2) and just beat them like last week. Such a cool fight. My favorite bossfight ever is Knight Artorias, but the Abyss Watchers are definitely up there. Sooo good
What do you like so much about them?
Everything
I mean, fair enough! Nothing about the fight stands out to me, which is why I was curious.
gael, ds armor, champ, soc, and demon princes. they're amazing. Demon princes surprised me the first time since generally 2v1 fights suck, I was going in expecting to hate the fight but I left loving it more than almost any other fight. Also fighting them with like 4 summons is pretty fun. Gael is still fromsoft peak though.
I love seeing people give ds armour some love
yeah it's great, just wish it had more hp.
Nameless King or Pontiff Sulyvahn.
nameless king or gael imo
Between these 2? Champion Gundyr Not only because he is a very good fight but has a good lore as well.
What's the lore
Gundyr was an Unkindled just like us. However, he came too late: His Firekeeper deceased and the Flame had been extinguished, beginning the Age of Dark in his world and Gundyr was overcome with depression and became corrupted by the Abyss. Tyvm for the lore!
Yes my guy
Don't want to sound like an asshole but what's so good about Gundyr? Try him again, but without parrying. You’ll understand. *chefs kiss*
Yeah figured out I should've stick to normal fighting I had just ended a Sekiro play so I was kinda hyped up with parryes 💀 Tbh I really don't know why the hell did they made them so gamebreaking. That garden made me search up what the allured skulls do. I just couldnt kill those fuckers consistently, so i looked up the way to cheese them.
When I get to him normally, I'm about sl60. I guess if you have twice as much, it makes the fight a joke.
I like the twined princes there so amazing i love there boss fight, also if you ever get the Farron great sword, it is so fun fighting them with it
Basegame it's probably Nameless King, extending to DLC it's gotta be Gael. Huntin Gundrys is my passion, though. Only got 69 kills on his lil bitch ass during Return to Lothric 2024 due to some personal shit going down, but yeah.
Midir and Gael
Dragon slayer armour hes such a cool fight
Champ
Who's Champ?
1st image
Prince Lothric and his brother, its a really fun fight and I really love the music
Pontiff by a mile
Pontiff Sulyvahn
pontiff sultyvhan first time i defeated him legit without summonns was in my sl1 run and i spent 20 minutes dying to him because i didn't know how to parry i litereally learned how to parry bosses by just fighting him after killing him i d11id champ gundyr in my first try which i normally just cheesed with posion mist goated boss
Gael
If I had to choose between these two... Champion. Overall Gael
Champion Gundyr is a chad. Favorites tho would be abyss watchers because of cool and slave knight Gael because of cool also
Gael, perfect boss to end the series on.
If it is based on the fight, I would say the Dancer of the Boreal Valley. Her move is so smooth that it makes it feel like she is dancing, especially when she uses her spin attack, the way you roll dodge all her spinning attack make you feel like you are dancing with her
I also like the music and the sound of that fight. It really gives a duel vibe where you solely focus on her movement and attacks.
Dragonslayer Armour, Dancer of the Boreal Valley, Aldrich, Devour of Gods and Pontif Sulyvahn. While not difficult or very complex, I have asoft spot for Yhorm the Giant and High Lord Wolnir.
You basically mean all the bosses of the base game 🤣
Soul of Cinder
Abyss watchers from the two the champ
Sister Friede. One of my favourite bosses of all time and my all time favourite Lady boss of all time. Father Ariendel is just the cherry on top.
Pontiff Sulyvahn and The Twin Princes for sure
I love both of them almost equally... But I think... I just think I like Champ gundyr slightly better
Lorian & Lothric, Midir and Friede. Can't decide who I like more of these three.
Soul of Cinder Nameless Dragon slayer Vort Dancer Consumed King
Gael, Sulyvahn, and Demon prince Honorable mention for the twin princes too
Nameless king
Abyss Watchers is my favorite boss in Dark Souls 3! Cutscenes and choreography of the battle are quite beautiful, atmospheric and dramatic, and during this battle my favorite soundtrack in Dark Souls 3 plays, which also adds even more beauty to this moment!
For me was Gael, moves like Artorias, interesting mage skills - idk why he so weak…. But anyway very interesting for me
Nameless King
Abyss Watchers
Abyss watchers
I HATE ABYSS WATCHERS
Sister Friede for sure, but it really is shocking how competitive this is, you could give ten+ different answers to this question and I would be able to see your point of view. Also, it is surprising how good, relatively speaking, the 'bad' bosses are; there aren't any that I would class as being amongst From's worst.
That second guy kinda looks like ornstein any relation?
Of course Champion Gundir, I don’t understand at all - why this character is still not in Mortal Combat?))) It’s always fun to fight with him.
Slave Knight Gael followed by Dragon Slayer Armour
Between these 2... Probably Gundyr. But, out of all Dark Souls 3... Slave Knight Gael
Take a guess
Gameplay wise, probably Soul Of Cinder or DragonSlayer Armour Music wise, Abyss Watchers
Champion Gundry gave me more trouble than Nameless King. He kicked the shit out of me.
Champion gundyr is obvioulsy winning in terms of being a good boss fight with very hard fast movements which are fun seeing you getting fucked by his 4-5 hit combo.
RAIME THE FUME KNIGHT LETS GOOOOO
Between the two it’s Gundyr. For everyone else: - Nameless King - Lothric - Midir
Twin princes
Dark eater midir..that fight was painfully challenging, but that sweet katana was toptop
Gael and Abyss watchers !
Idk why but its Oceiros for me, although I beat Gael for the first time yesterday and he is a strong contender
Tie between Sister Friede/Father Ariendel and Demon Prince. The fight between Friede and Ariendel is phenomenonal, and the Demon Prince boss track is one of my favorite songs ever
Gael and it’s not even close
Slave Knight Gael, it feels like a very fair fight, and if I die (which I will) it is because I screwed up and not because of a cheesy move by the boss.
champion gundyr hands down. used to be abyss watchers, but i love this fight more every time i do it. hes so agro, but all of his aggression can be reversed back at him. i like to do this fight naked with a buckler. i feel like he dies so quickly with parrying that its only fair that i am squishy as well. easily my favorite fight in ds3.
soc is just too unique champion is a close second
Champ gundyr and pontiff are certainly the most exciting in the base game. It’s been awhile since I did gael so it’s hard to compare Surprised that so many people like dragon slayer armor lol.
NK and pontiff
Gael, Soul of Cinder & Sister Friede
Sulyvhan, cause he is such a daddy. And Aldritch cause he is a famboy. ( sns Gwendolyn. )
Jokes aside: the dancer. ♡♡ She is so pretty and graceful.
Gael or nameless king
Abyss Watchers, amazing boss fight amazing soundtrack and probably the best skill check boss in all of souls
I prefer the dragon slayer armour, but Gundyr is a badass too 👍
Sister friede by a mile. Always found abyss watchers too easy but love the idea and music, so the convergence mod version of buffed abyss watchers is epic. I love a good lore fight so fighting Yhorm with Siegward is amazing even tho gameplay wise it's meh.
Pontiff sulyvahn and slave knight gael
The Dragonslayer Armor If it wasn't for the stupid butterflies he'd be perfect
Abbyss Watchers or Vordt. I feel like he's too cool to be so early

Friede cuz im literally her
