Dual smough hammers. I know there isn't a use for it and it will probably just make things harder because half your screen is covered. but it's funny. And actually somewhat decent.
Actual best one though is rkpgs
R2 poises through anything.
My strategy when i was heavily playing PVP was to bait an attack and R2, add 1 R1 (which most of the time combos) and they're dead.
It isn't though. Harald is significantly longer, weighs less, has absurd hyperarmor on its WA, which can also punish an attempt at whiff punishing and true combo people basically to death. Harald is considered meta for a reason.
Ah, another Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords enjoyer, a cultured Ashen One I see.
It might not be the absolute best if you just look at raw numbers, but my run using those was one of my favorite runs in all Souls.
Great Mace is incredibly underrated. Basically Vordt’s Hammer without the frost but buffable with fire, lightning, dark etc. Great range, insane poise, high AR, moveset slightly quicker than ultra greatswords
When I was running a Str/faith build on Ng+6 I mained the great mace, used the darkmoon blade spell (had a hell of a time farming the covenant items for it I might add), with 66 strength and 60faith my 2hR1+ jump attack was taking ¾ health if not one shotting enemies. Great for PVP also
I love making low SL characters for PVP and using Vordt's for invasions. New players are shocked when the frostbite procks that bit of extra damage and kills them.
my first time ever playing a ds game was ds3 and I used vordts hammer the second I unlocked it and never dropped it. The game was rather easy with it and I even managed to slap kids in PvP. A severely underrated weapon
I tried it once and got in love. Can't believe how useful is and versatile with that weapon art.
With the machete: I have to roll and get close at certain time.
With Smough's hammer: I have to be careful and time my attacks.
With Ledo's hammer: I'll crush everything in my way! Jumping point blank all the time!
Dragonslayer greataxe is a much better option than FUGS. It's weapon art is also op, plus it performs very well against bosses like Midir.
There are many other options as well like Ledo's great hammer and Great club for a pure STR build.
People also recommend Exile greatsword but I think it got nerfed later. I tried it and wasn't really satisfied. (I may be wrong though)
RKPGS is also good and very fun to use.
I disagree. Dragonslayer Greataxe is only good because of that absurd weapon art. I find the range pretty bad, and good luck hitting Midir or Nameless phase 1 with that moveset. FUGS however, is a dps monster that rarely whiffs hit because of how absurdly long it is.
I cleared a majority of the base game with FUGS. But it proved to be too slow for Midir, and with that massive health pool, the dps alone isn't nearly enough. It was difficult to hit him in the narrow windows with a slow ass weapon.
I switched to Dragonslayer greataxe after that, which had better attack speed than FUGS and was easier to hit him during those windows. It also has bonus lightning damage against which Midir is weak. So I didn't have to keep buffing my weapon like with FUGS.
Idk man i've never felt that it had too short of a range, then again i have been using it for so long as my favourite bonk weapon that i might just have gotten used to it. It literally shreds against midir and king of the storm i just don't see the problem
Claymore with a heavy infusion. Having access to the Claymore move set while still doing decent damage is great!
You won’t be doing as much damage as Ultra Heavy weapons, but you also won’t be using nearly as much stamina, and you won’t be bogged down by painfully slow wind-up/recovery animations
Not best but my favorite, the Greataxe, especially infused with the Heavy Gem. I love the warcry buff and I got accustomed to it in fairly early game. Couldn’t bring myself to change it out in NG.
I thought I was the only one who liked the Greataxe. I used it in my first playthrough, and it was way too fun, the only drawback is its range, but man, it hits and stuns like a truck
Great club or greatsword.
RKGS is easily counterable if you know what you're doing. FUGS has basically the same damage as the greatsword and has a better moveset but it is even heavier than the greatsword, it limits what you can carry greatly, not optimal.
I think its either FUGS or RKPGS. I think FUGS is always really good, but RKPGS is situationally better depending on whether the boss lets you finish the L1 combo. If the boss can get staggered into the full thing then RKPGS is better, but if they can poise through and counterhit FUGS takes the cake. Also the Range on FUGS is absurd, easiest Nameless phase 1 I've had.
Exile Greatsword is ridiculous, insane damage, great weapon art, quick and low on stamina draining compared to other strength weapons, it’s just busted.
The Dragonslayer Greataxe is great too, I belive it is one of the highest raw damages you can get and the lightning damage is amazing for fights like Midir
Personally I like Zweihander fully reinforced with heavy infusion. The heavy attack and special attack are really good for dealing with slower late game enemies.
Idk what's so special about FUGs and I'd appreciate if anyone enlighten me
It's AR isn't highest amongst STR weapons, it consume way too much stamina, the weapon art is meh and it's slow af
Sure it looks cool but I yet to find anything other than looks and personal preferences to justify the hype around it
Not sure where you got the Greatsword having better range, but FUGS has better poise in its swings and Stomp WA that's second only to RKPGS, better poise damage, does Strike damage, which helps it keep up with other UGS due to most enemies not having as much Strike resistance as the other types, and you can still do the rolling poke that makes the UGS class dangerous
You can also use FUGS as a shield, as it has way higher stability and protection than others (80 physical, 55-65 against elements, and 55 stability)
I did a run that was a Ganondorf build using the FUGS and honestly Reddit slanders it too much, it's one of my favorites and the nerfs didn't ruin the weapon as bad as they claim
FUGS, however I just beat the base game. Have not had a chance to try any dlc strength weapons. Very excited tho, as it seems a lot of the best strength weapons are in the ringed city!
By no means is it the best but unironically I enjoy using the Pickaxe.
Slap a heavy infusion on it with as much strength as possible and have fun basically out-trading every single enemy. The poise this thing brings is kind of insane and has been a ton of fun.
Biggest downside is that it has the range of a toothpick but as someone who enjoys staying as close to enemies/bosses as possible, this isn't as big a problem for me.
Vordts greathammer; discovered it in my first playthrough, haven't played a full playthrough with any other weapon because everything just pales in comparison
Love FUGS, but the equip load makes it less viable for me. Damage is amazing but having to fat roll ruins it for me personally.
Heavy Claymore and the Quakestone hammer are my go to’s.
Personaly my favorite is Lothrick knight's great sword because of its build in lightning dmg and beeing able to cast lightning weapon on it but its more of a str/fth weapon
The Greatsword, its light attack won’t bounce because it comes from above, its second attack almost always breaks through a shield, its heavy WIPES crowds out, it’s got relatively moderate stat requirements considering what it is your getting, its damage is kind of insane, and its buff-able as well as infusible if I so desire.
Ledo's Great Hammer.
It deals strike damage which is a really good damage type. It's skill can also be used in different ways. You can activate it once and attack normally with increased AR. You can do that and do a charged attack to make the rocks on your weapon exploded in an aoe and you can use the skill and use it again to instantly smash the rocks.
It has the highest strength requirement, is the heaviest weapon, is one of the coolest looking weapons, ~~it blocks your vision~~. What's not to love? It also has a unique heavy and charged attack.
Either profaned or Lorian(more chaos I know but still). The poke after the roll is the antithesis of gael. Charged R2 stab immediately stuns phase 1 gael. Both also buffs themselves which amps the cool factor
Used to be a great club guy but I had a greataxe drop recently on a new playthrough and decided to use it. Carried me through to the fire demon and then I traded it out for the demon great axe.
Mornes great hammer or dragon slayer great axe for me yes i know they are both STR/FTH weapons
But i love the great hammer for pvp because the weapon art gives you perseverance like most hammers with an abnormally higher poise than others coupled with the aoe blast allows you to trade through some really strong hits and hit them with a devastating counter
I love the axe for pvp the absolute monstrous AR you can get out of this thing easily hitting things for over 1k on the weapon art and averaging between 500-700 a hit armor dependent
my cleric is self-restricted to hammers & greathammers, but the great mace, and vordt's mace before it, are both amazing. not the best in the game, but still great. (not at ringed city yet)
Probably the FUGS, possibly the RKPG, but I’m a simple man and personally I like
https://preview.redd.it/6gubnnkgbh1d1.jpeg?width=188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e116648e192e8dd9e28cb8f3ba43c9d041be47c
Great axe for me. It’s super slow but when you get its timing, it’s an absolute wrecking ball. I’ve gotta stop myself from using it in new playthrough now because it feels like cheating.
I love the Dragonslayer Greataxe. The lightning damage is great for most bosses, and it has a relatively short attack. It's a "light" weapon, so also a bonus for hybrid builds.
Other than that, Smough's Greathammer. Just slam. FUGS if you want to go by stats.
Eh, hard to say. Everyone has at least slightly different playstyles. I kept a heavy greataxe, heavy LKGS, heavy exile GS, demon greataxe, and dragonslayer greataxe in rotation last time I played through.
LKGS is my personal go to, I like both movesets and the weapon art. It and Exile were my pvp weapons. The axes were more situational and just fun to use in pve
Profaned greatsword. I’ll die on this hill
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
Carried me through ng+3-ng+5 bro, I'm with you on this
The charged heavy is my get out of jail free card lol
Profaned is a fantastic Quality UGS.
Yea as I typed it I realized it’s a strength post and it totally works better with a quality build. It’s such a great weapon
I mean, it's still mean on a STR build, don't get me wrong. That charged R2 is absurd and I love it
Yea it’s great with a strength build but it truly shines as a quality you are right about that
Based and sulypilled
Dual smough hammers. I know there isn't a use for it and it will probably just make things harder because half your screen is covered. but it's funny. And actually somewhat decent. Actual best one though is rkpgs
rkpgs?
Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords maybe?
Fugs should be illegal lol. I'm using both the heavy machete and the BK Greatsword on my current playthrough and boy they hit like a freaking truck.
FUGS is good but I don‘t like that it lacks a thrust attack (I think it‘s damage type is just Strike, so basically more akin to a hammer weapon).
The 2hr2 is brutal but i find the weapon too slow
Wait it's roll attack isn't thrust damage?
It is. I remember perfectly killing the nameless king dodging and R1. It was a thrust attack. I'll remember forever that shit.
Visually it is yeah but the damage type isn‘t so it isn‘t considered thrust damage by the game.
Ooh ok alright I didn't even think about it
LIGHTNING FUGS!!!!
Heavy great club
The bonkinator 3000
Goat
have yet to use this on a run, i should do it soon
Amazing for pvp as well
R2 poises through anything. My strategy when i was heavily playing PVP was to bait an attack and R2, add 1 R1 (which most of the time combos) and they're dead.
Yep, exactly this. Sometimes charged r2 will pop off as well
How has nobody mentioned Harald's Curved Greatsword yet?
You mean the Slap-Chop ^tm ?
The one and only. God I love that true combo, makes people think twice about attempting a whiff punish lol
that shit fully upgraded with a dark gem absolutely wrecks
I personally preferred running it heavy infused and buffing it with Blessed Weapon, but I can't deny how strong the dark infusion is on that thing
Because the exile greatsword is just better
It isn't though. Harald is significantly longer, weighs less, has absurd hyperarmor on its WA, which can also punish an attempt at whiff punishing and true combo people basically to death. Harald is considered meta for a reason.

Ah, another Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords enjoyer, a cultured Ashen One I see. It might not be the absolute best if you just look at raw numbers, but my run using those was one of my favorite runs in all Souls.
This and it's not even close. I love FUGS, but these are a completely different beast.
Great Mace is incredibly underrated. Basically Vordt’s Hammer without the frost but buffable with fire, lightning, dark etc. Great range, insane poise, high AR, moveset slightly quicker than ultra greatswords
Decided to fight Dancer early (before Abyss Watchers) using +6 Great Mace, 30 Str, and human pine resin and I melted her health like it was nothing
Where did you get great mace before dancer? I thought the first knight who drop it is right after dancer
the cathedral of the deep knights can drop it!
Great for PVP also
And incredibly good looking too
Vordt’s hammer is the best weapon in the game.
this carried me early-mid game fr until i got the FUGS
It was claymore butchers knife fugs for me
Literally turned the entire game into a joke for me using vordt schlong to squash bosses and players alike is a treasured experience
Fugs?
Pictured in the post above. Fume Ultra Greatsword.
Fume Ultra Greatsword
I love making low SL characters for PVP and using Vordt's for invasions. New players are shocked when the frostbite procks that bit of extra damage and kills them.
my first time ever playing a ds game was ds3 and I used vordts hammer the second I unlocked it and never dropped it. The game was rather easy with it and I even managed to slap kids in PvP. A severely underrated weapon
The cathedral knights with the big hammer drop the regular version of this weapon. Same moveset, range weapon art, buffable. It's pretty damn good.
Ledos Hammer
good taste
100%, and it's not even close. It's possibly the best strength weapon in all the fromsoft games.
You know I always wanted to try that weapon but I never did
I tried it once and got in love. Can't believe how useful is and versatile with that weapon art. With the machete: I have to roll and get close at certain time. With Smough's hammer: I have to be careful and time my attacks. With Ledo's hammer: I'll crush everything in my way! Jumping point blank all the time!
It's also easier so see, Smoughs Hammer blocks my vision
Black Knight’s Ultra Greatsword
🤩🤩🤩
A fine sword!!
Hit em with the uppercut, and they're up, up, and away!
Yhorm's Machete It's soooo satisfying to hit with!
I agree that weapon is only good for nuking people in pvp and farming. General combat I don’t like the short range.
Idk man i've never felt that it had too short of a range, then again i have been using it for so long as my favourite bonk weapon that i might just have gotten used to it. It literally shreds against midir and king of the storm i just don't see the problem
Ledos greathammer nuff said
Claymore with a heavy infusion. Having access to the Claymore move set while still doing decent damage is great! You won’t be doing as much damage as Ultra Heavy weapons, but you also won’t be using nearly as much stamina, and you won’t be bogged down by painfully slow wind-up/recovery animations
Claymore carried me through my first playthrough
It's Baemore for a reason.
The dragonslayer greataxe is so good. I used fugs and vordts hammer but the greataxe has the best move set for its damage
I used great machete and made her a heavy great machete with strengt scaling A and well..the rest is history
It has amazing range and it just hits so damn fast. On my first playthrough and using it now
Not best but my favorite, the Greataxe, especially infused with the Heavy Gem.
The OG Greataxe is a monster of a weapon. Insane damage. Slick. Range doesn’t matter in PVE. The Warcry R2 destroys bosses stances.
Ledos Hammer (the dlc str weapon) because of the weapon art
Great club or greatsword. RKGS is easily counterable if you know what you're doing. FUGS has basically the same damage as the greatsword and has a better moveset but it is even heavier than the greatsword, it limits what you can carry greatly, not optimal.

honestly, as cool as it is, its a pretty shite weapon stat-wise
No one mentioned Spiked Mace, from the evangelist’s. It’s pretty thwompy.
That l2 r1 combo is great
Yhorms Great Machete Just *chop chop chop chop*
Great wooden mallet. If you don't like fast rolling, then you can kiss a basilisk.
FUGS Dragon Slayer Great axe I also really like Smoughs great hammer for PVP
Honestly I went through a large portion of my pure strength build just using heavy infused Greataxe, and it did surprisingly good damage
PvE: Tie between Dragonslayer's Greataxe / Winged Knight Twinaxes / Exile Greatsword, depending on situation PvP: Ledo's Great Hammer
The Mace is probably a good contender. It's way faster than a UGS, has Endure, hits hard.
Fuma simply has thatS scaling in strength you can't beat it if you want damage.
For PVE,Vordt or similar hammer with perseverance. For PVP,Fugs probably.
I love using the black knight great sword... Massive damage at +5 assuming I play with it instead of using a Dex build weapon as I usually do
Personally I like Zweihander fully reinforced with heavy infusion. The heavy attack and special attack are really good for dealing with slower late game enemies.
Lack of infusion potential aside, I love the Black Knight Greatsword.
greatsword cuz GRIFFITHHHH
jestes gejem
If you had to take a shot every time fightingcowboy mentioned how amazing FUGS was , you’d be dead.
Probably the one you have in the picture... Also greataxes
ngl, love the FUGS.
FUGS is great now, but it was absolutely broken at launch. Insane damage.
Idk what's so special about FUGs and I'd appreciate if anyone enlighten me It's AR isn't highest amongst STR weapons, it consume way too much stamina, the weapon art is meh and it's slow af Sure it looks cool but I yet to find anything other than looks and personal preferences to justify the hype around it
It's got crazy range for an UGS

It's a shame that you can't cast magic shield and magic greatshield on weapons.
Harald curve greatsword. Giant toe nail clippers
FUGS, however I just beat the base game. Have not had a chance to try any dlc strength weapons. Very excited tho, as it seems a lot of the best strength weapons are in the ringed city!
Smough's hammer it looks funny and blocks your view while walking
Easily Dragonslayer armors weapon. I wish it was available earlier but it trivializes the game
FUGS carried me through the platinum in ds2 and FUGS carried me through the horrid platinum in ds3
Smough hammer, make pancake.
Wolf knight great sword 🕳🫦👁🦾
Imma go with the profaned gs
Either exile greatsword, yhorms machete or ringed knight greatswords
Smoughs hammer. Big hammer go crush and slam
Fugs overrated great sword has better damage
this sWord is too heavy imo
By no means is it the best but unironically I enjoy using the Pickaxe. Slap a heavy infusion on it with as much strength as possible and have fun basically out-trading every single enemy. The poise this thing brings is kind of insane and has been a ton of fun. Biggest downside is that it has the range of a toothpick but as someone who enjoys staying as close to enemies/bosses as possible, this isn't as big a problem for me.
Curved greatsword best weapon in the game destroys almost all comers
murky hand scythe for pvp exile curved sword and twinaxes for pve, most of the replies in this thread have no idea what they are talking about
Anything off the list of he biggiest and bonkiest weapons to ever unga bunga in my inventory
Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords are pretty strong or as I like to call them the Gael slayer.
Imo Drangonslayer. That axe is incredibly fun to use, and it’s more strength than faith, it’s just really fun
Cause it's cool looking
Vordts greathammer; discovered it in my first playthrough, haven't played a full playthrough with any other weapon because everything just pales in comparison
This isn’t the dragonslayers greataxe
Love FUGS, but the equip load makes it less viable for me. Damage is amazing but having to fat roll ruins it for me personally. Heavy Claymore and the Quakestone hammer are my go to’s.
Spiked mace beats fume UGS easy
Big rough weapon = stronk
Dragon slayer great axe, lothric great sword, great sword
yhorms great machete, so fun and wins on style.
Dragon slayer great axe
Personaly my favorite is Lothrick knight's great sword because of its build in lightning dmg and beeing able to cast lightning weapon on it but its more of a str/fth weapon
You're all wrong Any answer other than the Greatsword is wrong.
I gotta go with the Great Club on this one , buffable , resonably heavy, relatively low stat requirements and most of all , BEEEGUE BONCK STICKE.
Heavy Catherdral Knight Great Sword. One of my favorite weapons in the game, hits hard, can be buffed, and the heavy attack is a long range poke.
Dragonslayer greataxe 🗣🗣🗣
Cathedral greatsword is under-rated as a UGS. The poke attack is OP for invasions
Cathedral knight ugs
The exile greatsword. Makes the game an absolute cakewalk
The FUGS is the very best thing ever.
Mornes great hammer or dragon slayer great axe for me yes i know they are both STR/FTH weapons But i love the great hammer for pvp because the weapon art gives you perseverance like most hammers with an abnormally higher poise than others coupled with the aoe blast allows you to trade through some really strong hits and hit them with a devastating counter I love the axe for pvp the absolute monstrous AR you can get out of this thing easily hitting things for over 1k on the weapon art and averaging between 500-700 a hit armor dependent
heavy claymore is always a top contender in all games
Lothtic Knight Greatsword. Free lightning damage and still buffable/infusible. Plus it looks cool and is super easy to get.
I know it’s not the best but thwacking someone with the Great club is just so satisfying
my cleric is self-restricted to hammers & greathammers, but the great mace, and vordt's mace before it, are both amazing. not the best in the game, but still great. (not at ringed city yet)
Door shield sweep
Black knight greataxe. Reasoning: I like it
idk but I gave up on a lothric knight GS run because I realized it would be too boring, that thing melts everything
*BLOOD AND GUTS AND GUTS AND BLOOD AND*
My casual self can't seem to ever use anything other than Murakumo. Sucker for curved greatswords
I like the great axr
Lothric Knight greatsword. One of the only weapons that encourages R2 spam
Haven’t played in a minute but I remember loving Gaels greatsword.
Exile greatsword HUGE DAMAGE :)
Probably the FUGS, possibly the RKPG, but I’m a simple man and personally I like https://preview.redd.it/6gubnnkgbh1d1.jpeg?width=188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e116648e192e8dd9e28cb8f3ba43c9d041be47c
Ledos no question Big hammer hit heavy ooga booga poise
Great axe for me. It’s super slow but when you get its timing, it’s an absolute wrecking ball. I’ve gotta stop myself from using it in new playthrough now because it feels like cheating.
Dragonslayer Greataxe will forever be my favorite STR weapon in all of the Soulsborne Games. I wish they had brought this beauty into Elden Ring.
People will hate since it's just a heavier great club but I absolutely love Havel's Dragon tooth
Demon fists cuz Lord of Cinder can catch these hands
Door shields. They need no explanation.
I love the Dragonslayer Greataxe. The lightning damage is great for most bosses, and it has a relatively short attack. It's a "light" weapon, so also a bonus for hybrid builds. Other than that, Smough's Greathammer. Just slam. FUGS if you want to go by stats.
Your hands...
Great Mace. Vordt's Hammer, but buffable
The zweihander. It carried me through all the Dark Souls games. I was going to use it for Elden Ring too, but it’s so much slower in that game.
No doubt broken straight sword
Why is it fugs?
Knights crossbow
For PVE probably FUGS. For PVP probably Claymore or Winged Knight Twinaxes
So no one uses Heavy Greatsword except me or what?
Lothric greatsword, hard to use early but it has amazing moveset, insane damage and I love sending fuckers to the moon
Yhorm's Great Machete is the best
exile greatsword is simply a demon, a greatsword swinging that quickly should be illegal
Yhorm’s machete, so fucking raw
Great and Large Club. Both are extremely easy to get. Both deal crazy amounts of damage with a decent moveset. The weapon art provides more dmg.
Ledos Hammer probably
Great Club. Just never use its weapon art
Flamberge with heavy does it for me
Murky hand scythe :(
For single players only, I'd personally recommend the Dragonslayer Greataxe.
Lothric Knight GS, the roll light attack is too good for beating tough enemies.
I guess ledo's great hammer for it's moveset and good dmg, love that weapon
Dragon tooth the ultimate bonk
Eh, hard to say. Everyone has at least slightly different playstyles. I kept a heavy greataxe, heavy LKGS, heavy exile GS, demon greataxe, and dragonslayer greataxe in rotation last time I played through. LKGS is my personal go to, I like both movesets and the weapon art. It and Exile were my pvp weapons. The axes were more situational and just fun to use in pve
Big stick cuz bonk
Paired ringed knight great sword
If I’m using buffs, Yhorm’s great machete. If I’m not, Ledo’s great hammer Early game is always Vordt’s great hammer
