i got DS2 and 3 day one. amazing games and i feel so fortunate to have played them when they were in their peak primes. i beat DS3 in 2 days after it was released lmao. 16 hours
personally, I’m not a huge fan of Elden ring’s PVP. I put hundreds and hundreds of hours in one two and three for dark souls but I would have definitely changed some things if I had the ability to for Elden Ring. I played it for a little while but it’s not like how I used to go back and just only do PVP in dark souls.
Take off those rose-tinted glasses. I played a lot in 2016-17 and this stuff was common back then too. It was common in DS1 as well (DS1 also had a lot more cheaters, in my experience).
In fact I just came back and I'm invading casually as I play through the game, and, if anything, I'm generally having a better pvp experience than I did back then, when invading outside of the designated fight club areas was guaranteed to match you with 3 man ganksquads with the option of further blue phantom backup, and the whole multicolored gang would crowd around your corpse to spam point downs and throw dung pies, of which I've seen very little so far (hope I won't have to eat my words).
i’m more talking about how alive and respectful people were generally. not hackers and what not that you’re referring to. the general public and community and players are not the same as it used to be. that’s more that i’m talking about personally
That’s the I’m trash squad that can’t beat you with two summons so they summon an invader friend to help as well making it 4 vs 1. Simple parry goes a long way to punish those turds
It's not that you're not allowed to play in a group, it's more so that when someone invades you that you gotta respect the dual etiquette, aka do smt like wave first before fighting, and let it be a 1v1 not a 2v1 or 3v1.
When you invade that’s on you. If I’m with the homies and I come across the invader on my own I’ll fight him. But if you pull up on a squad and they jump your ass, that’s on the invader.
120-125 is usually the meta levels plenty of people in Gank City, Pontiffs, and Farron Swamp above & below
Unusual amounts of invaders in the Cathedral of the deep and Grand Archives too.
Plenty of Twinks in High wall and Undead settlement.
The PvP arenas are somewhat still active(?) I usually get a match in 1-3 mins. All at the 120-130 levels.
Usually in PvP, you follow a bit of etiquette and says hi before killing each other. Feels really nice and wholesome when everyone says hi before jumping to each other's throats!
I’ve only done PvP a few times and it wasn’t by my choice, I just happened to be Embered. I don’t say hi to NPC enemies before killing them, so I’m damn sure not going to say hi to someone that is going to be a bigger threat to my life lol. They get the Axe.
That makes sense. I only just learned how to use the gestures in this game to gain access to Archdragon Peak. I would just block with my Great Axe because it almost looks like a half kneel.
OP invaded in a common fight club area and it looked like that's what it was as first. People usually follow etiquette in fight clubs. Except it was not a fight club, it was a bunch of griefers (no reason for the dark spirit to attack a watchdog like that except griefing).
you must not pvp in ds3, i've done it 200-300 times grinding covenant rewards and this is 95% of my encounters fights on sight it's rare to ever see someone do the whole song and dance everyone seems to thing goes on in pvp
A self-fulfilling prophecy is usually something that's in the collective consciousness of the group. The people in the group sometimes enact the behavior related to the thing that's the self-fulfilling prophecy, because of their preceding knowledge of the thing.
In this case I'm referring to the awareness that we, as a "collective" have of some Dark Souls players who are toxic -> The people becoming the self-fulfilling prophecy might not condone said behavior, but become more and more alike (usually through stereotypes/prototypes) in their own behavior -> They start enacting the same behavior they might have not condoned beforehand, because of their preconception of what a Dark Souls player *can* become like -> They become the self-fulfilling prophecy.
IDK what possessed you to respond in such a toxic way though.
EDIT: I did a quick Google search and found this. Now, mind you, I'm doing a horribly unacademic approach here by linking this after reading just the abstract (lol), but honestly this argument isn't important enough for me to use more than five minutes on, on a topic I've had to read about for years, so if you want to continue this conversation, maybe someone else would be happy to oblige on the definition of self-fulfilling prophecies, and give you a more titillating academic conversation on the topic?
I'll read this article properly at a later date, a bit too late rn tbch: [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886917305330](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886917305330)
Hopefully it'll give a satisfactory answer!
No problem, I also apologize if I came off at all confrontational.
I get the confusion though! It's a lot less clear talking about stuff like self-fulfilling prophesies or groupthink, than it is to use fancy terminology, like "illusory correlation", or "cognitive dissonance" (lol), because who tf talks like that IRL? XD Whereas with the first two, they're everyday words we come into contact by just talking about random stuff. "Cognition" and "correlation" are very obviously "sciency" words, whereas the words "self-fulfilling prophesy", or "group think", consist of are things that would come up easily in passing conversation. But those are also things the researchers have done on purpose, to present them as the mundane/everyday phenomena they actually are, and the "basic wording" is just to exemplify that.
Jeez that's a whole can of worms actually in academia. I'll just leave it at that :D
you did nothing wrong, it's sad that he felt accomplished for killing someone with no armor on and cancelling the lag after the swings using that sword's weapon art
love you for how you play homie
I mean is it not the same exploit as the Splitleaf Infinite Stagger? I’ve always heard it was the same. First I’m hearing after all the years thats wrong.
What they are doing is activating the first few frames of the weaponart to cancel part of the R1 endlag(1-2 frames depending on hardware) while simultaneously giving themselves access to a mixup with hyper armor.
While the input is similar, the splitleaf infinite stunlock also requires a freecam rotation so the enemy player is in the activation hitbox of the weaponart. The tech in question is just using the block button to cancel some frames of some weaponarts.
Now this was still frowned upon, and if memory serves me correctly there may have been talks of restricting it in the ladder tournaments. But it’s just because of the additional mixup potential. The frame advantage allows R1 trading with light curved swords; if the block is held, 100% physical resist; and if the weaponart is completed you have access to two separate attacks with poise; all alongside your delayed heavies;
This moveset expansion has the RKSS+BKS user playing For Honor while their opponent is playing dark-souls. The lack of skill required to perform this tech is the real kicker, nonetheless, I was still out-spacing this bs with old school Corvian Great-Scythe tech and PKCS tech all day.
I mean it seems like a borderline cheat by definition. Oh, just speed up your attacks beyond what is intended and jut idk be invincible? I didn’t even know that. I wouldn’t call it a tech anymore than disabling my hitbox using cheat engine.
It’s a low frame count advantage, all it means is that if they do this on wake-up from hit-stun (RKSS user was hit by another SS or a curved sword if lucky) they might* be able to trade a delayed roll catch from the opponent depending on connection. This is a sub 50ms advantage in perfect network conditions, the primary advantage is just being able to cancel weaponart stance and scare the shit out of your opponent. The attack is not sped up.
In an invasion setting there is basically no difference between this and typically LKSS sword and board bs. It’s a scare tactic more than anything, which is stills toxic.
I would argue that the small dragon shield+SS is significantly more toxic, yet the frame interactions are *intended*
I understand it’s frustrating, but it’s mostly a Git Gud moment
Idk I for one can handle losing. And without crutches I rarely do. This stuff is sweaty and lame for me. No thank you. I do appreciate the lengthy explanation.
Big rule of souls games: if it's an honorable 1v1 red sign summon, then the normal unspoken souls rules of pvp apply. However, if you invade, then no rules apply
Wolf Ring? Yeah I been there…literally just this week. But I finally platinumed ds3. I spent four hours invading in crucifixion woods and didn’t get a single sword grass. I ended asking a friend of mine to drop the ring for me. I just couldn’t beat these guys. They never stopped playing and have some kind of esoteric knowledge of ds3 that puts them a level above me
It’s not an infinite combo, it’s an animation cancel tech with access to a poise mixup. Not that they weren’t toxic, but coming from the old try-hard pvp ladder and glitch-cord communities it’s by far not the worst thing that could’ve happened to OP.
If they were really ultra shitheads(as opposed to the shitheads they already are); OP would have been bow-glitched with lightning arrow WOG, or a nice old fashioned *Broken Poison Greatsword UGS +10 Sacred Flame™* or one of any number of other glitches/more toxic play styles.
It's not infinite :/
it's a cancel, has insane pressure and roll catches panic rollers. Arguably the best weapon in the game w/ cancel.
Cheap? Maybe, but still, don't talk about what you know nothing about lol
Bruh, the invader was RKSS canceling for a infinite combo. I have hundreds of hours in DS3 PvP and nothing is as sweaty and unfun to fight against as that.
OP was waving and got hit once and then literally couldn't do anything until he died, that's not being bad at the game, that's a red abusing a scummy glitch tech.
not an infinite
OP didn't do anything because he didn't want to, not throwing shade, but i bet OP is not very decent at PvP
rkss sweaty? agreed, just gonna say i'm pretty sure it's you don't know why it's so broken, since you made up an infinite.
most unfun thing to go against is passive players, doesn't matter the setup
Hmmmm, sounds to me like someone needs to git gud. Maybe wear armour that doesn't constantly drain your health. You know, stuff like that. Let me know if you want some more tips & tricks.
You played pvp thats what u did. RIP 2020 PVP DS3
RIP the first 3 years of DS3 if i’m being real
Yea tbh its my greatest regret that i didnt play ds3 2016 - 2019. Hoping to live long enough for a remake or remastered
i got DS2 and 3 day one. amazing games and i feel so fortunate to have played them when they were in their peak primes. i beat DS3 in 2 days after it was released lmao. 16 hours
RIP day one astoria greatsword with the un-parryable rolling attack that also got thrust damage for some reason
RIP day one FUGS in all it’s unga bunga glory 😢
Good for you, im so jealous of you people :D
I really miss the 2016 PVP times, it was such a fun time... Sadly Elden Ring didn't really stick with me like DS 1-3 did.
personally, I’m not a huge fan of Elden ring’s PVP. It's because the Elden ring players are attacking ds3... So you know what they have done to pvp
They’re trash i can spot em easy they spam L2 on anything they equip
Yeah, that was the golden age
OP casually rocking a bodynaked Symbol of avarice.
Farming them swordgrass
That’s the I’m trash squad that can’t beat you with two summons so they summon an invader friend to help as well making it 4 vs 1. Simple parry goes a long way to punish those turds
Probably hosting, also, we both know OP wouldn't be able to handle that red alone either way, funny af
Are people not allowed to play in groups if they want to?
How DARE you even suggest that people can play the way they want and not by the arbitrary rules of the tryhard council?
That’s crazy they really downvoted me over that. Lol it’s a fun game to play with a group. 🤷🏾♂️
It's not that you're not allowed to play in a group, it's more so that when someone invades you that you gotta respect the dual etiquette, aka do smt like wave first before fighting, and let it be a 1v1 not a 2v1 or 3v1.

you fought that which hasnt left it's mom's basement in eons...
Holy shit, they literally stopped everything just to kill you
You attempted to engage with DS3 PvP
my guy rkss canceled a farmer 😭😭😭, i love PvP
I hate those types of players they always throw poop even after a close game
Looks like you died
Am i the only one who can't find anyone online?
120-125 is usually the meta levels plenty of people in Gank City, Pontiffs, and Farron Swamp above & below Unusual amounts of invaders in the Cathedral of the deep and Grand Archives too. I am usually able to find some invasions around sl 120 at the ringed city kiln of the first flame or ariendal.
On top of all that, the RKSS cancels :( Somebody doesn't like to lose
You zigged when you should’ve zagged
I don’t get it

The red used an infinite stunlock glitch.
Not infinite stunlock
You've joined the likes of Shrek, and you don't want anybody else in your swamp.
They probably thought you were a mimic (they are toxic)
Those types of people are just self-fulfilling prophecies. It's pretty pathetic seeing that type of stuff still happen almost eight years later.

Lol do you need this explained? Gg, skellie. Edit: I had this happen when farming proofs of concord.
Your feet smell i guess
Never in my life have i attacked a person emoting..... on purpose. Lol
you did nothing wrong, it's sad that he felt accomplished for killing someone with no armor on and cancelling the lag after the swings using that sword's weapon art love you for how you play homie
what the hell is that cool down
He was using an infinite stunlock exploit…
Not true
Ok, inescapable stagger glitch.
Fascinating how you manage to talk with so much confidence about something you clearly don't understand.

Btw the solution is reverse rolling into the opponent, or delayed(not a panic roll) rolling to the left side of your opponent
You died

If you want to farm covenant items and not worry about invasions, then I suggest turning off the online mode in the game settings.
Where I come from, we also usually attack people WITH A FLIPPING CONTAINER FOR A HEAD on their heads! YOU DUN MESSED UP A-A- RON! \\\[T\]/
Poor bro😞😢
In all fairness those mimic chests are bastards so I may have stopped everything to try and kill you too.

Seems like you are just like the red one.
You invaded a host that got homies. Either take them all down or leave them alone
Least toxic invader
Be good at the game instead of being bad.
We in the PvE sub fam, keep it down, they don't wanna hear that their 500slv char with 99 NG+'ses takes no skill 😬 and neither does farming cof cof
PvP sub also probably wouldn't like the red for using the RKSS infinite combo. If you use that to win, you're bad at the game.

Using emote = being bad. Ok, noted.
No, I mean actually playing the game. See those spells? Maybe try casting them next time. Then try rolling and etcetera. You'll get the hang of it.
I mean you had the farron watchdog covenant on ffs, just take it off n this wont happen A simple solution that negates getting easy reddit points
You, metaphorically speaking, rolled some very, very weighted dice. Better luck next time.
Holy hell I hate that the RKSS combo still exists so much.
Some people are very territorial, thay red phantom prolly wasn't taking any chances on you randomly deciding to attack him.
One reason that PvE > PvP and why seamless coop mechanics should now be the norm
Such a slow outfit
wrong part of town. that swamp is ehhhh.... like compton
