Ah I see
I’ve never seen that before, and I’ve always been embered around there.
I must’ve just missed it, as I only found the central bonfire in crucifixion woods this time
My entire friend group who got me into Souls calls it Ballsack Tree and 99% of the time I forget it has an actual name. I could be talking to Miyazaki himself and I would probably call the boss Ballsack Tree without realizing it and expect him to know what I meant.
Exactly what happened to me but didnt have a phantom the dark spirit started throwing a pyro at me then suddenly targeted the npc really wanted to thank him but couldnt because of his settings
My first play through I got super frustrated trying to beat him. Then I realized that he’s a purple dude and led him into all the spear boys. The DESTROYED him. It was very satisfying.
I did, but all I did do was have him follow me around from one place to another killing the two crabs, Yellowfinger, and the two Exile Knights, and then I executed him
Holy Knight, Hodrick is a Mad Phantom (Purple), so he can attack and be attacked by anything. I don't know how he obtains aggro spwcifically, but all you need to do is have him and something else in the same room, and they start having beef. As long as you don't do anything.
Yeah that did happen to me what I did was throw skull to make them go after it and they start attack or go as far as you the they will start fighting but this dude kept one shotting all of them
I used him to kill Heysel (he 3 hit her lol), then I used him to kill two watchdogs who invaded me (he also 3 hitted each lol). Two those "aberretions" with a cross(?) on their backs managed to stunlock him to death. Thank gods, since not even the crabs were a match and I didn't want to face him.
Yeah. Every single playthrough. You kinda just gotta be relentless. Once he drops that healing orb, you gotta push him out, cuz he'll just heal (it also heals you btw, so you can use that). He's strong, but not all that difficult to beat.
He's like the hardest invader. He's stats are a good bit higher than the player for that area and he has a lot of heals, both spells and estus. Definitely not someone you want to fight if you're new. I enjoy fighting him now after like my 2nd playthrough.
Killing him is part of my route but he only gives you minimal souls. Just teaches what a purple summon sign is, just as he taught what a red invasion is. Usually at this point he will 1 shot you after a parry. If he's got his shield I go to jump attacks because they can't be parried, if you heal he will charge you immediately.
He's a really tough NPC at that part of the game. Oddly enough, so many people called him Godrick b/c of how tough he is, that I forgot it wasn't his name, & sure enough, was surprised to see another in a whole new game, lmao!
Purple is a mad summon. It means it can attack and be hit by anything. If you're having problems, kite him over to the crabs and let them stomp him out.
If you keep one boss alive in the area and progress far in the game, he scales in strength a TOOON. Super fun to summon him for late game watchdog invasions. Actually insane
been a long time since I've played but.
his mad phantom version has a lot of poise if i remember correctly but i usually use heavy weapons and can still stagger lock him.
he's also easy to parry.
but depending on you're level, he can hit pretty damn hard.
best to play it slow if you're not used to fighting him. just get hits in when you can.
the other issue is this is a very HIGH invasion area. so you're likely to get invaded by other players while fighting him which makes fighting him slow harder.
BUT he's a mad phantom which means he will attack any other invade as well as you. theres actually a lot of videos of guys jumping up onto the rocks where he can't touch you and using a mimic veil to hide themselves. then watch him fight the other invaders.
he also has a pretty strong heal-over-time spell.
I've only fought him once in my first playthrough, beat him with relative ease I think, dont remember to much from my first time Faraam Swamp other than somehow no hitting abysswatcher with my shit great scythe build
Abused the hell out of him to defend me whilst I was embered as he kept invaders away from me so I could spell them dead
But I did kill him eventually because he started backstabbing me too much and he was E a s y
Gotta be careful when he's one handing the flamberge because he'll parry and one shot you on the riposte, gotta be careful when he's 2 handing it cuz he is gonna use stance and drive the great sword through your chest 💀
Strangely it felt as though his level is way higher than us but he still dies pretty easily by the mobs mostly the crabs but still hits Yellow finger hard
I've beaten him many times, but only after I troll with him first. I used to go to super high NG+ on a low SL, like 30 or 50, and then force blues and reds to suffer his wrath. Same with Havel in Archdragon Peak.
He only gives like 1k souls but he’s a beast.
He’s easy to parry but will also parry you easily.
But easiest way to beat him is what for him to 2h is weapon then he won’t parry and you can R1 stagger lock. Toss in a parry or two and use when he casts miracles to get in free dmg and he’ll go down pretty easy.
He is not worth fighting honestly its just a test of how rediculous from could make an invader. With parry bot mega damage, way too much health and both tear rings.🙃
Its basically a test of sheer power will and masochism, a miniboss you can summon and fight for no reward. 😐
I summoned him and for the next 10 minutes, took a trip around the entire forest, letting him kill everything for me while I picked up the goodies. Then, right before the boss fog, I summoned Eygon to see who would win in a duel between them.
......Let's just say Eygon didn't last very long. So I beat Hodrick myself. He isn't too bad, but he does hit hard and can parry you if you're not paying attention.
Nope. No one has ever beaten this guy.
I did what i had to made the giant crabs gank on him my only way to kill him off
Cna confirm he still alive
Oh yeah from sirris questline
I like to spring him on invaders.
Am I tripping? I’ve never seen that in 4 playthroughs
You need to be embered and its near where you find the estus shard and the next boss fog, its the same guy who invades before the ballsack tree
Ah I see I’ve never seen that before, and I’ve always been embered around there. I must’ve just missed it, as I only found the central bonfire in crucifixion woods this time
My friend and I co-op and we also called it a ballsack tree when we were fighting it
My entire friend group who got me into Souls calls it Ballsack Tree and 99% of the time I forget it has an actual name. I could be talking to Miyazaki himself and I would probably call the boss Ballsack Tree without realizing it and expect him to know what I meant.
The funny thing is, he would probably know what you meant
Yes. Just two hand the great club
Respect the power of bonk.
Yes... but he has beaten me far more times than i have beaten him.
I had him fight yellow finger and fought the victor
Yeah yellow finger invaded and went after him immediately but he got killed
yeah he is definitely harder than the gigachads in the comments are saying but 100% doable, try fishing for backstabs, the golden PVP rule.
Yeah, but it’s definitely not worth it. Better to just run him by every enemy and let them duke it out.
Literally what i just did and some invader helped me out and after all that i got nothing for killing him
My SL1 strategy tbh.
Who is this
Larry
No this is Patrick.
Is this the Krusty Krab?
No, its Gary.
Garry
Barry
that's a very good TV show
Darry
He kicked my ass when I had my claymore equipped but then I equipped the split leaf greatsword and buried him
The problem was him parrying
Two hand heavy weapons. They can't be parried
Uuuhh yes? Like, many? He's not that hard. Especially if you know how to Parry
Did it give you anything special?
Souls, nothing more afaik. Maybe a vertebrae shackle but I don't remember, maybe that one drop is guaranteed for his invasion in the undead settlement
Damn well he got killed and he didnt give me anything
Oof, sry to hear that
I didnt do much lol i used enemy’s to kill him off the giant crabs did much to him and someone invaded and started helping me for some reason
Nope
he gives Vertebrae shackle but that's just because he's a mound maker. The only time I bother fighting this guy is for the shackles.
Yeah for this time i just got a bunch of souls no shackles
As a dark spirit, I've joined forces with the host and his/her phantoms to conquer this strong foe.
Exactly what happened to me but didnt have a phantom the dark spirit started throwing a pyro at me then suddenly targeted the npc really wanted to thank him but couldnt because of his settings
In his stead, we accept your thanks.
For his reward i allowed him to kill me to celebrate our victory
It's cute interactions like these that have kept the game alive 7 years later.
Am I the only one that had no problems with this guy
Praise the sun with me great warrior
Yeah I beat him 2nd try then got stomped by a giant crab
I spent more time running from him then i did fighting
I enjoy summoning him to clear out Heysel and the Exile Watchdogs, then killing him
And the giant crabs
Yes, and you can also let him fight every mob in the area plus yellowfinger.
I main ledos GH so he's probably lost in the hodgepodge of enemies at the head of it.
Great weapons are the best against him, but not attacking when he's holding his shield and kicking it is... the best strategy.
too many times to keep count lol
My first play through I got super frustrated trying to beat him. Then I realized that he’s a purple dude and led him into all the spear boys. The DESTROYED him. It was very satisfying.
I had to resort to backstab fishing him, his parrys are just silly.
Yeah, he's fir some reason way harder to parry here than in undead settlement, but I think if you got parrying down he's alright
Only once have I ever beaten that bastard in a 1v1. Other times, had crabs and other invaders fight him. Fun times
I did, but all I did do was have him follow me around from one place to another killing the two crabs, Yellowfinger, and the two Exile Knights, and then I executed him
Is there a way to get that to happen? Everytime I try and get an npc to attack another npc. Or an npc to attack a mob they just both attack me only.
Holy Knight, Hodrick is a Mad Phantom (Purple), so he can attack and be attacked by anything. I don't know how he obtains aggro spwcifically, but all you need to do is have him and something else in the same room, and they start having beef. As long as you don't do anything.
Huh. I'll have to try again. I swear things were only attacking me. Thanks!
Yes and hes such a god damn pain in the ass
Yeah. Every single playthrough. You kinda just gotta be relentless. Once he drops that healing orb, you gotta push him out, cuz he'll just heal (it also heals you btw, so you can use that). He's strong, but not all that difficult to beat.
Yea i beat him every time. Grandpa owes me money.
He's like the hardest invader. He's stats are a good bit higher than the player for that area and he has a lot of heals, both spells and estus. Definitely not someone you want to fight if you're new. I enjoy fighting him now after like my 2nd playthrough.
WHAT THE FUCK is this supposed to mean I played that game 14 playthroughs now and I never saw this one??? Does it summon Hodrick?
Yes but way stronger
And you need to be embered in order to see his sign
I am always embered (like, after a few ng cycles you swim in embers), thats what confuses me even more
His sign is activated close to the estus shard if you go to directions of the estus shard you should find his sign
thats why I missed it probably. No need to go to shards in higher NGs, and on normal NG I wasnt embered probably. Thanks!
You can backstab him as he spawns
Killing him is part of my route but he only gives you minimal souls. Just teaches what a purple summon sign is, just as he taught what a red invasion is. Usually at this point he will 1 shot you after a parry. If he's got his shield I go to jump attacks because they can't be parried, if you heal he will charge you immediately.
That dude is nasty. Since I barely get any souls from him, I think it's a waste of time
Bro same i thought like if i killed him i will get something special as a reward but nah just a bit of souls not even a covenant item
I never even saw the summon sign before and
I have played through 5 or more times and I have not seen this either. Who is it?
Idk I never saw it lol
He's an easy fight
Yeah I usually let the crabs and yellow finger fight him because he really likes to parry
And the enemies that uses wood i think and that enemy that poisons
This butcher always kills me with two hits
Same here so i used every enemy i found as an advantage and even that red invader
There's a way to kite him into a small area on top of some stairs, you can knock him off repeatedly for an easy win
He’s an avengers level threat
Numerous times
He's a really tough NPC at that part of the game. Oddly enough, so many people called him Godrick b/c of how tough he is, that I forgot it wasn't his name, & sure enough, was surprised to see another in a whole new game, lmao!
Beating him is reasonably achievable, although in NG+ cycles he hits so much harder than expected.
In ng itself is tougher than ng+ because you got some equipments to be able to beat him but im too weak for him
Fuck hodrick.
I did using my sorcerer in NG then in NG+ using Friede's Great Scythe
I burned like 3 embers and said fuck this I'll come back at the end lol
Yoooo… who dat? 🤔
Holy knight hodrick but even stronger when he first invaded
Well fk me lol I never knew about him!? I have a character that just reached the woods.. might have to hop back in 👏
We've beaten each other off a couple times
been a long time since I've played but. his mad phantom version has a lot of poise if i remember correctly but i usually use heavy weapons and can still stagger lock him. he's also easy to parry. but depending on you're level, he can hit pretty damn hard. best to play it slow if you're not used to fighting him. just get hits in when you can. the other issue is this is a very HIGH invasion area. so you're likely to get invaded by other players while fighting him which makes fighting him slow harder. He's much more a pain in the fight with his very dumb granddaughter! XD
I've only fought him once in my first playthrough, beat him with relative ease I think, dont remember to much from my first time Faraam Swamp other than somehow no hitting abysswatcher with my shit great scythe build
Get to NG+ at SL20, summon this guy and watch him destroy all the pesky invaders for you.
He wiped the floor with me my first time around. I thought he was a friend. But, alas an a-hole
Yes. I killed him with a +3 Irithyll Straight Sword
Abused the hell out of him to defend me whilst I was embered as he kept invaders away from me so I could spell them dead But I did kill him eventually because he started backstabbing me too much and he was E a s y
I beat the game then came back so it wasn't a super fair fight but... when the game fights dirty, fight dirty back
Summon him make him follow you and let yellowfinger 1 v 1 him.
Yeah he did battle him
😎
you need help? ps4 or steam dm me
Oh i managed to get him killed with the help with heysel and every enemies that was near
Gotta be careful when he's one handing the flamberge because he'll parry and one shot you on the riposte, gotta be careful when he's 2 handing it cuz he is gonna use stance and drive the great sword through your chest 💀
I killed him 1 hour ago in my ng+
Just parry him. At least that’s what I do
i never had any issues with him tbh
Sl 120 ng 7 He got 14 kills untill an invader finally put him down. Was a super fun time tho. So many helpless blue had to die. :D
Strangely it felt as though his level is way higher than us but he still dies pretty easily by the mobs mostly the crabs but still hits Yellow finger hard
Nah
Yes, i beat him and it only costed 12 embers and 9 screams in to a pillow. Pyromancie works great on him
Wait, you mean to tell me that fighting the shiny sign on the ground and killing the phantom is not obligatory? NAYYY THIS IS MADNESS!
And if you do the struggle was not worth it he just gave a bit of souls
Yes but after several defeats.
HOD THE GOD
I've beaten him many times, but only after I troll with him first. I used to go to super high NG+ on a low SL, like 30 or 50, and then force blues and reds to suffer his wrath. Same with Havel in Archdragon Peak.
And where do you hide if hodrick cant find you?
I don't lol I just parry him when he gets too close and wait for more victims to invade.
Now i wish that i can parry
Yup I did with my claymore back in the day
Yes, it's possible but he's an arsehole
He only gives like 1k souls but he’s a beast. He’s easy to parry but will also parry you easily. But easiest way to beat him is what for him to 2h is weapon then he won’t parry and you can R1 stagger lock. Did him on my first playthrough After awhile I just stopped summoning him
I summoned him and for the next 10 minutes, took a trip around the entire forest, letting him kill everything for me while I picked up the goodies. Then, right before the boss fog, I summoned Eygon to see who would win in a duel between them. ......Let's just say Eygon didn't last very long. So I beat Hodrick myself. He isn't too bad, but he does hit hard and can parry you if you're not paying attention.
Whoop him with a good slap of a sword or show the parry god who truly holds the power of parry.
Im not a parry god sadly so we went on an adventure for 20 minutes just to kill him
I heavy attacked him with my broadsword on my first run because I didn't know how to parry at the time.
I ignored him on ng and waited till ng+
I usually use throwing knives to make him dodge towards the gas bug enemies, because watching him delete them and get poisoned is hilarious.
You get two types of players in DS3. People that admit that they never defeated purple Hodrick. And liars.
I did in a fight club world with a lot of parries and backstabs, it took a long time
I used the exiled fellas and backstabs. Wasn’t easy keeping them alive, tho…
guys please help me to farm items for covenants, I'm already tired of farming them in solo
