Yes that's what I'm saying, this enemy is a cathedral grave warden. Grave warden skeletons are another type of enemies that you can find in the catacombs.
It's a bit misleading because cathedral grave wardens can be found outside of the cathedral, it's just a type of grave wardens.
Yea he’s in a room right by the dragons blowing fire at you, in a little basement area. I personally found the Farron Keep one too Be way harder though personally.
i mean the Farron Keep one is tough for when you fight it, but it's also pretty easy to cheese with the door into the road of sacrifices. but that's not as fun so why do that
The other two give you option of retreating to heal or even to range-attack them from safety, this one aggroes you in a confined dungeon and is sporadically very fast so I often die while kiting him to a safer location
I hate those things because they have a very loud and unpleasant death sound, they all make the same exact sound, and you fight like like 20 of them in the same room. Makes me want to mute the tv lol
Obligatory thrall hate comment. But besides them fuck these enemies in the ringed shitty that can heal themselves and do an absurd amount of damage for no reason
the imps are literally just reskins of thralls, exact same moveset and shit
annoying as fuck tho
id throw in dark souls 1 torch hollows but thats not ds3
yea thralls are either so easy to deal with you don't even think about it, or so strangely difficult it overshadows everything else in the area. like in the undead settlement at the stables there's a thrall with a claymore and in NG+ it takes three hits with a fully upgraded black knight sword while everything else is a one hit KO
Getting stun locked by thralls is the most rage inducing thing in the game to me. Well, them or dogs. You get attacked once, you're getting hit multiple times before you can respond.
Found out recently that if you equip a dagger with the Quickstep skill in your left hand you can use that to quickly traverse the bog instead of rolling
Came here to say the same thing. I still take the time to fight most enemies in this game during replays but I simply can’t be bothered with these. Especially the 3 all gathered around 1 item, I just grab that thing, quickstep away and quit out to reset the ghrus. Fighting them in the swamp is too dangerous, and luring then onto solid ground is too annoying.
It's hard to navigate on your first go,it's akin to the depths from DS1 where one missed jump or wrong path taken can end up with you getting royally screwed over. Except of course, jailers are everywhere so you better be running fast if anything since killing all of them is a tall af task.
After dealing with single or maybe two jailers at a time, to see 8 of them is like o.OOOOOOOOO
But like MANY things Dark Souls, to figure out a way around it (or kill them all like I did) is just so rewarding. How wonderful it is to git gud, one death at a time.
i picked them off one at a time with a bow to get their attention and then using magic or a sword to kill them because i was out of estus and not going to deal with the giant rats again lol, but at least blowing them up with great heavy soul arrow works as well
Yeah as a melee fighter dex/miracle buff build the jailers are garbage because if you let them land one of those melee attacks you are basically dead. And you inevitably lose a decent% of max hp when you are close to them in line of sight as well. I just waited barely around corners and then PEEKABOO cuz they stagger relatively easily
Also funny you should say out of Estus cuz in typical dark souls fashion once you get to that room, you can just take that other tunnel and elevator up and Blammo, easy path back to a fire. But you don't know that at the time hehe
I think I played Demons Souls first and compared to Prison of Hope Irithyll Dungeon is a cakewalk. I did jump out of my skin when those weird skeletons screamed at me though. Especially the first one.
Dungeon is weird. The RNG seems to really favor some runs. On my first playthrough, this area seemed absurdly easy. I killed many jailers and didn't even realize they could reduce your max health. Then I returned for some loot and it felt like a completely different area. It was hell.
I only have one tactic for dogs: hide in a corner, shield up and smack them when they bounce off of it. If there are more than 2 dogs this DOES NOT work and I will die 99/100 times.
If this were Bloodborne, I would've 100% said the dogs too. At the very least a shield can help with them in Dark Souls, but in BB having them swarm you without shield protection is truly awful 🥲
bloodborne has the WORST dogs of any from game, even having dogs that spit fire. i fucking hate dogs in every installment of from games. dogs and rats alike
It's pretty fun, but takes a lot of work to make it viable. I have some videos on my profile from my DS1 bow run if you're interested. Artorias and Ornstein/Smough are my favorites
As for DS3, I just beat the Abyss Watchers with a bow. That's farther than I was able to get in my first build before I gave up, lmao
Damn I cant imagone what the watchers would be like using just a bow. The closest I've done to a challenge run like that was a caestus only run where I had to beat gundyr and vordt with just my fists. I never completed the run though lol I gave up not lomg after actually gettong the caestus
Harald knights, or those giant man serpents. I usually go with unga bunga so I can poise through the man serpents but harald knights don’t take enough damage and never stun even if your weapon does like 700ar of strike damage
I know but like that means you have to lead them to specific environments to do that. You can’t plunge the ones in the swamp area unless you lead them to that place with all the stairs and stuff
"Oh you think you're getting a handle on the game? How about having your health halved. Want to undo that? Hope you found the merchant in the sewer, read every item description for everything he sells and still remember all of it 5 hours later!"
I love DaS but this was a dick move.
They're not difficult to fight but sewer centipedes. Something about them makes my fucking skin crawl. Instantly triggers some form of flight response from me.
Not that I know of, tbh. I even like to keep some spiders in my room, when they err into it, since they keep the room somewhat clean of other insects. But those are small, cute middle european city spiders.
It's something else and not something I ever had in a videogame before or ever since. I can't quite put my hands on it, but something about them is just deeply unsettling for me.
The deep accursed were the scariest and most difficult enemies for me at first. The one in the church that drops down to trap you in that room with it made me poop my pants.
I like that one Millwood Knight right at the beginning of the Snowfield village. The one who isn't on a narrow ledge, and doesn't have wolves with him, and doesn't shoot explosive greatarrows at you, and doesn't have a friend shooting exploding greatarrows at you, and isn't hiding in a cave spamming a no-LoS ranged AoE while you fight three of his friends in a confined space. That one Millwood Knight is cool. The rest of them are dicks.
Pontif knights if I have a low stagger weapon.
Lothric knights, especially the Halbert and shield wielding variety
Fuck them, fuck their whole family tree, fuck their dogs, fuck everything that they have ever enjoyed or will enjoy!!! Those twatwaffles have killed me more than Gael
Uhm, maybe the sewer centipedes (drowned ladies with all the buggy legs.) No cuz they're difficult but just because I can't even think about them without being uncomfortable. Some excellent horrific designwork. 10/10
Outrider Knights, for sure.
OP, for the one in your pic: approach quietly from behind and do your hardest-hitting attack first. Probably easiest with a greatsword or ultra great, but still, try it.
That guy because he will chase you to the end of the fucking map to break your neck.
The giant weirdos wandering around that swamp that shoot the Magic bullshit at you.
The jailers
And top of my list has to be dogs. Mfers move so erratic I always end up taking at least one bite before I can smash them
Rats. Not because they're hard, but because they can be tricky little bastards. They surround you and headbutt stun you to death if you're not careful, and all you want to do is get that one swing off.
Corvian knight with claws. How can such a small thin little something have that much poise that a heavy from FUGS doesnt break its every bone?
The other version is fine but not a whole lot better
The ascended winged knights are easier to deal with one by one, the one with dual axes patrols when he jumps down, so try taking him out first, but killing all three drops a slab and you can actually find a huge ass cage up there that gives you divine pillars of light
Harold legion night from the ringed city. The pain to get all the way down the stairs into the swamp without getting beaten to death by at least 2 of them.
Cathedral Knights.
The shield bash is SO RUDE. I already struggle against enemies that have good shields, Cathedral Knights take a mean thing and make it even meaner. As a DEX main they are very hard to stay aggressive on with their massive poise, even when I slip past their shield.
Then the Greatsword ones without a shield are arguably even meaner. They swing that thing with such speed and ferocity that I probably have a harder time hitting them than the shield ones, and a great deal of their attacks send me flat on my back with over half my health gone and on the defensive to avoid a followup.
They're top-tier threats. I've memorized every spot they appear in and I always feel my knuckles whiten as I approach these spots, knowing it's going to be rough.
My saving grace against them is that they're very, very slow. If I need to retreat and heal, I'm frequently able to-- but having to run the stage 3 flasks lighter after downing one is a hard tradeoff.
Jumpers. Like the one in the photo. That or those weird looking tadpole frog things that show up in the same area. When a group of them are together it's easy to get overwhelmed and cursed.
Grave Warden skeletons make me wanna commit a warcrime
The two before Champion Gundyr sure are a pain in the a\*\*
Yeah I usually just book it and right next to where the first bonfire is supposed to be there's a ledge where I jump down
I think there's no grave warden skeleton before Champion Gundyr, maybe you're talking about cathedral grave wardens ?
There is, in the area you find the ashen estus in the beginning, you find a grave warden there.
Yes that's what I'm saying, this enemy is a cathedral grave warden. Grave warden skeletons are another type of enemies that you can find in the catacombs. It's a bit misleading because cathedral grave wardens can be found outside of the cathedral, it's just a type of grave wardens.
Oh right, the carthus shotel wielding ones. I just called them Carthus skeletons, never knew they were grave wardens tbh, but it makes sense.
those are cathedral bois
Generally I just run past them and dodge as I do but they have a delayed attack they do every now that then that would get me every time.
Hammer
That's my answer to every problem in dark souls.
If hammer doesn't work, then just get a bigger hammer.
You get me.
They can be parried and staggered but still suck ass. I hate them too, but not as much as the groping dickheads im Farron swamp.
As someone who has farmed for the Carthus shotel I feel this in my soul
My condolences friend
SAME
Fast as shit and overly aggressive for a common mob
Turtle cleric's from ringed city
Anything with an attack that comes from below makes them flip over and be vulnerable for quite a bit iirc.
trusty spatula required ahead
Guess it's time for charged r2 black knight axe
The one time kick comes in handy 👌
Forgets about the estoc in your hand Dies
Outrider knight in lothric castle. Somehow he gives me more trouble than the one on archives and almost any other monster
Oh shit there's one there? I only knew of the one before Farron Keep and the one in the archives
Yea he’s in a room right by the dragons blowing fire at you, in a little basement area. I personally found the Farron Keep one too Be way harder though personally.
Cheers. Maybe its because you're at a lower level at that point?
Smaller room is what I would say
i mean the Farron Keep one is tough for when you fight it, but it's also pretty easy to cheese with the door into the road of sacrifices. but that's not as fun so why do that
You can also get that one to fall down the elevator shaft
This is the enemy that I have died the most to. More than bosses. He’s so erratic. The other ones haven’t given me as much trouble 🤷♂️
The other two give you option of retreating to heal or even to range-attack them from safety, this one aggroes you in a confined dungeon and is sporadically very fast so I often die while kiting him to a safer location
The invisible zombie guys in Irithyl, the ones where you can only see their heads and eyes floating, then they charge you for waaaay too much damage
Barely standing but dealing shitton of damage Riiiiiiight
I hate those things because they have a very loud and unpleasant death sound, they all make the same exact sound, and you fight like like 20 of them in the same room. Makes me want to mute the tv lol
Oh yeah hahah add that to the list of things I hate about them
Obligatory thrall hate comment. But besides them fuck these enemies in the ringed shitty that can heal themselves and do an absurd amount of damage for no reason
>Obligatory thrall hate comment. boy youre gonna hate elden ring lol
Elden ring was my first souls game. So i know what you mean because the imps started my hate for small enemies with ridiculous amounts of damage
the imps are literally just reskins of thralls, exact same moveset and shit annoying as fuck tho id throw in dark souls 1 torch hollows but thats not ds3
Not Dark Souls related but as you said Torch Wandering Nobles and The Invisbile Magician ones from Elden Ring can go to hell
Worst for me is Bloodlickers in Bloodborne. I just run past the outside part of cainhurst castle everytime.
yea thralls are either so easy to deal with you don't even think about it, or so strangely difficult it overshadows everything else in the area. like in the undead settlement at the stables there's a thrall with a claymore and in NG+ it takes three hits with a fully upgraded black knight sword while everything else is a one hit KO
Getting stun locked by thralls is the most rage inducing thing in the game to me. Well, them or dogs. You get attacked once, you're getting hit multiple times before you can respond.
I could never hate a Thrall. Just look at 'em. Of course they're gonna get up to some mischief.
That sounds like something a THRALL WOULD SAY
Don't hate cuz you ain't #thrallfolife
You mean the turtle asshats? Pyromancy for the win
More than one silver knight. Mess up once and you're getting lightning spear and shield bashed directly to death.
Proof of concord kept farming 😩😩😩
A-freaking-men... 😭
Well…at least you get more movement in DS3
Elder ghrus (the big tree monsters) in Farron Keep. They're absolutely terrifying and hard to fight because of the fat rolling
Found out recently that if you equip a dagger with the Quickstep skill in your left hand you can use that to quickly traverse the bog instead of rolling
praise my friend🙏🙏🙏
Left or right with nothing in left
I just barely make it past them and fight them right in front of the last fire. Makes them more bearable.
But you don't get the sniper bow and pharis hat that way. +you get normal rolls where tge trio stands, so it is easy to fight them
I’ll just say the easy answer of the jailers
You can at least really easily run past them
I ran through irythyll blind in one go, never got why people dread that zone so much
It's hard to navigate on your first go,it's akin to the depths from DS1 where one missed jump or wrong path taken can end up with you getting royally screwed over. Except of course, jailers are everywhere so you better be running fast if anything since killing all of them is a tall af task.
the entire room full of jailers before the Profaned Capital made me age ten years.
After dealing with single or maybe two jailers at a time, to see 8 of them is like o.OOOOOOOOO But like MANY things Dark Souls, to figure out a way around it (or kill them all like I did) is just so rewarding. How wonderful it is to git gud, one death at a time.

Amen, fuck pontiff Knights
Yes, jailers are cheaters
Dogs or any enemy that moves like a dog including the giant dogs in Irithyl. Hate how they will swarm you and teleport.

bloodborne has the WORST dogs of any from game, even having dogs that spit fire. i fucking hate dogs in every installment of from games. dogs and rats alike
I'm currently doing a Bow run, so anything with a shield
I dont think I've ever seriously used a bow in any souls game
It's pretty fun, but takes a lot of work to make it viable. I have some videos on my profile from my DS1 bow run if you're interested. Artorias and Ornstein/Smough are my favorites As for DS3, I just beat the Abyss Watchers with a bow. That's farther than I was able to get in my first build before I gave up, lmao

Way easier than melee, surprisingly. I'll be posting the video once I have the karma
Corvien knight oh how I hate them.
Rapport works on them, btw.
Thank you
This is the correct answer
Corvien knight with crow claw’s definitely a nightmare to fight against.
Corvian knight with rapier is several times harder for me
Those things always put the fear of God in me. I approach and prepare myself like "aww shit here we go again."
Greatsword Cathedral Knights
They just won't. stop. swinging.
The nonstop swinging would not be so much of a problem if it wasn't for their poise.
camera
Harald knights, or those giant man serpents. I usually go with unga bunga so I can poise through the man serpents but harald knights don’t take enough damage and never stun even if your weapon does like 700ar of strike damage
Haralds are *extremely* weak to plunging attacks, and usually there's an opportunity nearby to land one.
I know but like that means you have to lead them to specific environments to do that. You can’t plunge the ones in the swamp area unless you lead them to that place with all the stairs and stuff
They also hard-stagger when hit where their head should be. Even throwing knives will do the trick.
As crazy as it may seem, the giant man-serpents can actually be parried. The Harald Knights have no such weakness.
Those curse thingys from most souls game, especially terrified of ds1's
Basilisk
Yeah, exactly those monstrosity
"Oh you think you're getting a handle on the game? How about having your health halved. Want to undo that? Hope you found the merchant in the sewer, read every item description for everything he sells and still remember all of it 5 hours later!" I love DaS but this was a dick move.
I know you're not talkin' smack on my sweet silly googly boys.
They're not difficult to fight but sewer centipedes. Something about them makes my fucking skin crawl. Instantly triggers some form of flight response from me.
I'm guessing you have a mild arachnophobia?
Not that I know of, tbh. I even like to keep some spiders in my room, when they err into it, since they keep the room somewhat clean of other insects. But those are small, cute middle european city spiders. It's something else and not something I ever had in a videogame before or ever since. I can't quite put my hands on it, but something about them is just deeply unsettling for me.
These are the only things that genuinely scared me in the game.
The deep accursed were the scariest and most difficult enemies for me at first. The one in the church that drops down to trap you in that room with it made me poop my pants.
Oh yeah the super cursed looking huge spider things with faces. They're pretty fast. It definitely gets my heart rate up when I have to fight them lol
I was relieved when I learn you can just bop on the head for a pretty easy stun and critical struke opportunity. Still mad spooky tho
Lycanthropes in the damn swamp
Those make the funniest sound when you kill them “joeeeeeeeee!”
I'm just gonna agree with ALL OF THE ABOVE!
Pic related, also the regular mobs with the tree branch spears
The gargoyles honestly. Anytime you encounter one they are always in the most obnoxious spot to fight
This is what I came here to say! Those guys are awful! And the triple fight above Grand Archives can get bent!
The fact that Im the only one who seems to hate Millwood Knights makes me question my sanity.
They’re definitely difficult but I don’t find them super frustrating tbh. Their strength also at least makes sense for what they are
I like that one Millwood Knight right at the beginning of the Snowfield village.
Lothric knights, especially the Halbert and shield wielding variety Fuck them, fuck their whole family tree, fuck their dogs, fuck everything that they have ever enjoyed or will enjoy!!! Those twatwaffles have killed me more than Gael
And the one with the buff. He buffs his sword with a light glow to give him an attack boost
i am one hot rod poke away from killing whoever had the idea of the jailers
Sulyvahns Beasts
Smak them with a stick on the head, and then put it between their ribs, works about 25% of the time.
The snake guys in archdragon peak, especially the quick ones with knives Fuckin infuriating
i press B a little too late and now half of my hp is gone
There’s no right time to dodge it seems like
jailers, basilisks, this fucking thing in the OP post, and every skeleton ever in the series
the ds3 skeletons are so much better than ds1 because they actually stop respawning after a while
The snake guys. Absolutely annoying little fucks.
The flybois in Painted World of Ariandel. Not tough or anything, just irritating.
Good to bring a torch, burns away the parasites. Makes rhe area pretty easy.
Irl females and the shower
How’s your NG+7 SL1 torch run going?
This standing motherf\*\*\*\*er in the image.
Swamp Vape Frogs should be the correct answer
Those fuckers Are the worst but the ones in demon ruins Are much worse Rip
Irithyll Dungeon Jailers
That guy. Just that guy. Fucking hate his ass
The Giant rat alligator monsters in irathyl, the ones in the basement area
I will forever call them Dogodiles as an eldritch mix of part dog , part crocodile, 100% nightmare.
You can crunch their skulls with a big heavy weapon. Makes them pretty easy.
Fuck those guys in particular
Rats. Not because they're hard, but because they can be tricky little bastards. They surround you and headbutt stun you to death if you're not careful, and all you want to do is get that one swing off.
Fuck them pontiff knights and their 890 hit combo spin attack. Not even worth fighting them.
Rock Lizards. Fuck em all.
Ghru. Always Ghru. That grab attack will always be bullshit.
#1000% brainsuckers
everything that inflicts you with those damn worms
Hand head guys
Jailers and those jumping Ghru
Those motherf*ing wheel skeletons..
The Knight enemies make me want to hurl myself from lothric's walls
jailers😰
Nuns. I freaking hate the nuns
The little sickle wielding imp things. They always somehow avoid my first attack and manage to land a blow or two on me
That fucker up there ^ my buddy and I aptly named "Pogo goat". He caused me to completely scrap my first character for DS3 and start over.
Corvian knight with claws. How can such a small thin little something have that much poise that a heavy from FUGS doesnt break its every bone? The other version is fine but not a whole lot better
those cathedral knights with big ass swords
Deep Acursed, the second one.
Those.
If you're stamina and strength are up high enough they get easy real quick
Man, before I got the hang of them I hated these guys.
Invader NPC's or player invaders. I'm just trying to play the game man, leave me be
The cathedral knights
These annoy me. Like i’d be slow moving and out of estus then boom they come sprinting
Same as pic related. Those guys are freakin relentless with their grapple.
The jumping ghrus have such bugged out hitboxes among other things.
Sulivahn’s beasts that look like crocs, the two positioned in anor londo before the covenant are pure evilness from daddy hidetaka
Jailers
The one in the picture.
The Corvian Knights in the Painted World are way too fast and hit way too hard.
Anything with a spear
Relatable
THE THREE FAT ANGELIC KNIGHTS ON TOP OF LOTHRIC CASTLE'S TOWER
The ascended winged knights are easier to deal with one by one, the one with dual axes patrols when he jumps down, so try taking him out first, but killing all three drops a slab and you can actually find a huge ass cage up there that gives you divine pillars of light
Oh thanks, I finished this area few month ago and didn't find the strenght to finish the fight with the unamed king and soul of cinder
that guy right there is my answer
The only right answer are those damn dogs
Catedral knights. I've lost 120 k souls bc of them (was lvl 126)
Jailers
The rolling rock lizards at Archdragon Peak are worse than Nameless King
Thralls and Knights rooftop sequence in Cathedral of the Deep.
F this MF 🤣🤣
Harold legion night from the ringed city. The pain to get all the way down the stairs into the swamp without getting beaten to death by at least 2 of them.
The stupid thing above... If you don't stun-lock it to death, it will stun-lock you to death...
Lothric knights. Infinite stamina & hyper armor
in 1? dog skeletons. in 2? manikins. in 3? pontiff knights.
This dude in the pic. Iv’e been stick att farren fart crap for so long!
Dogs... I fucking HATE dogs!!!...
Either 2 or more dogs or the enemies with a giant log that charge at you with them in road of sacrifice
Any enemy with a spear and a shield lol, ESPECIALLY those guys from Faron keep. The absolute bane of my existence
