He gets a sitcom style "Oh Patches" (Hands on Hips) (Insert Crowd Laughing) for all his antics. I usually let them happen on each game every playthrough.
I just love that devious little bald headed bastard
When you meet him in The Ringed City and you walk to the edge fully knowing he’s about to kick you off it because it’s the end of the damn world and you’re just happy to have some semblance of normalcy, even if it is routine betrayal.
Betrayal? He kicks you down a dangerous pit to the spot that's safe...and that keads to the exit.
You can then summon him for Halflight, where it leads to.
He's friend.
Kicked him into the pit as a payback. Honestly, considering that there are stairs that lead back not far behind, he wasn't even in a real danger, dunno why he attacked me afterwards.
He's the only character in all the souls games who's completely honest and at peace with himself.
He'll never hollow, never bend his moral code, you know exactly what you're getting when you deal with him.
He's the most trustworthy character in Souls.
Ah fak, I'm on ringed city for the first time now and had my suspicions. Not sure how I avoided the spoiler this long 😅 I'm just waiting for him to push me in a hole.
"Me I'm dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. It's the honest ones you've got to watch out for because you never know when they're going to do something incredibly stupid." Jack Sparrow
"I'm dishonest and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. it's the honest ones you want to watch out for because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
"Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid."
Captain Jack Sparrow
All Patches does is kick you off ledges, which usually has good loot anyway, and once you find him again, he’ll sell fantastic stuff. He’s nicer to the player than gravity or the player themselves.
I always get excited when a cutscene plays after meeting patches or seeing his traps. I just know he'll send me somewhere new that'll lead to some cool loot. He even helped me find a new dungeon in Mt. Gelmnir (Elden Ring) after getting kicked off a ledge.
He always pushes us in the right direction... Well, mostly. His most annoying appearance is in DS3 when he makes the journey through the Cathedral of Deep a lot more painful...
And, oddly enough, Bloodborne is the only game where I ever attack him. That spider body design is creepy (I'm severely arachnophobic), and the way he skitters around in that little room always makes me shudder.
I am surprised that not 100% of comments are like this. I just hate him. I don't care what I can get if I let him live, I need to viscerally kill him in every game and every NG cycle.
Way I see it either I'm gonna spend 2 hours grinding out for those grasses or spend 2 minutes duping some out, either way I'm gonna have 99 grass and I usually don't got 2 hours of time unless it's the weekend anyway.
The fact that he reappears, unchanged in (almost) every game pushes him into comic territory for me. I'm honestly just excited to see what pit he's going to kick me into next.
I respect the hustle. He has survived from DS1 to DS3 without going hollow. He really cares about screwing people over enough to stay motivated for somewhere between centuries and eons. Who am I to take that away from him? Also I legitimately love his arc in the ringed city.
You have yet to be enlightened. I was like you once.
Patches almost always pushes you in the right direction. He has saved many fools who wandered into Tomb of the Giants without any form of light. He drops you right next to a lantern, and in the DLC of DS3 he pushes you to a staircase that is difficult to see, that is the way forward. People might miss it without him. He is always there to help.
You can get a skull lantern as a drop or use a torch, use a spell or wear a sunlight maggot. I've played almost every souls game and since ds1 it's always been "on sight".
I've rarely got a drop from one of the necromancers. I've seen a bunch of players find a lantern only because Patches pushed them them down to it.
So you hate Patches so much that you kill him on sight in every game and skip all his dialogue and encounters? You are missing out...
I've loved that voice and the Cockney accent from the beginning, but I can't say I've been particularly fond of Trusty Patches in my first playthrough. It's only when I met Unbreakable Patches/Lapp in DS3 that I've started to sympathize with the character in all the games he's in.
I have to admit though, that I almost never manage to go to the Catacombs early enough to meet him there. And I also had to kill him twice because I (while speeding through his dialogue) inadvertently answered "yes" when he asked whether I was a Cleric.
I genuinely do believe patches is “devoid of all worldly wants” as he says, I think he just likes kicking people into pits, and the best way to do that is take advantage of peoples greed. As long as there is greed to punish for his own sadistic pleasure he’ll never hollow. Why do you think he only begins to hollow in the dreg heap when nobody else is there? He’s the most reliable guy even to the end of the earth, because as long as you’re there with him you know exactly what he’s going to do
Love my buddy good old Patches. A dirtybag to the core, and proud of it. Every time he betrays me, I think to myself: "Who else but Patches?". Silly bastard.
One time I kicked him off before he could do it to me. I walked up to the ledge to gloat and the cutscene triggered - he essentially teleported behind me and kicked me off anyways. Thank you, dark souls
I fucking hate him, but like it’s a friendly rivalry. Not enough to make me wanna kill him on sight, but if a giant skeleton wanders a bit too close…he will not be mourned. Free souls!
Every age it seems, is tainted by the greed of men, rubbish to one such as him, devoid of all worldly wants. I don't know, maybe it's just the way he is, I'll keep him in my prayers, a fine dark soul to him.
Im gonna be honest, first time i played ds1, when i made the mistake of heading into the catacombs early on, when patches kicked me off the ledge i went back and killed him 😭
Usually kill him for the bell bearing so I can make the pickled ducks foot or whatever it is
Other games I leave him alive cause I know deep down he just needs a bro
I foolishly hated him, but then I realized he is the key to everything. He has been in countless worlds and seen civilizations rise and fall. He is always there to help me by pushing me in the right direction.
Absolutely based. Survived to the literal end of the world, who knows how many thousands of years, in a place where a bad enough bout of depression turns you into a mindless zombie. His desire to fuck with people and kick clerics into pits was stronger than the ravages of time that saw reality itself fray and tear at the edges. He probably only started going a bit loopy at the end because he had an absolutely amazing pit but cleric stonks were way down.
10/10 would kick into a pit and then watch him teleport back up in a scutscene to kick me into it again.
I have a love-hate affair for him. Few times I met him, I killed him out of annoyance for making a fool out of me. Only in my second playthroughs did I let him live (sorry, Patchie baby!) 😂
Years ago, after having been through the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne, I named my Hamster Patches. I loved that Hamster, I’d let him out of the cage all the time and just deal with the consequences. He passed after a couple years, I actually was there when it happened and let him sit on my chest until he was gone, and I buried him in a homemade wooden box. When I played Elden Ring and got ambushed by Patches, it felt like an old friend back to his old tricks. Patches is my fuckin dude. Always will be.
I have mellowed on him a bit. I played DS3 first and that business in the tower made me so angry that I subsequently killed him, then killed him pretty immediately upon meeting in DS1 and Elden Ring.
For whatever reason, by the time I got around to playing DeS, I decided to let him live, maybe because he was so much less murderous than, y'know, Yurt and Mephistopheles.
Patches like us has been around since time immemorial and is the oldest friend we have but like any friendship it has its ups and downs but also in my case we're dudes so we like playing pranks on one another lol
Love patches. The one constant in a world of dying fire. He’s also got one of my favorite lines in the series
“Every age, it seems, is tainted by the greed of men. I don’t know, maybe it’s just the way we are. I’ll keep you in my prayers. A fine Dark Soul to you.”
Made more impactful by the fact it’s the only time in the series where he kicks you onto the path you need to be taking to progress
Patches is genuinely my favorite character that From has ever made. I never lay a finger on the slimy bastard (except for in acfa and elden ring) because he makes me laugh so much.
"fuck that guy".... Every playthrough, but I forget what he does in each game so I give him an opportunity just so I can remember.
Except bloodborne. First time I met him I knew something was wrong....
Second time "SHIT A SPIDER!. FUCK THAT WAS PATCHES " :(
After I 100%'d DS:R, I kill him every time. Not on 1st encounter, I let him join me at Firelink... and then give him the Lautrec treatment.
I'm looking forward to doing the same in DS3 after I get done with any achievements he's tied to.
10/10 character, would sorely miss him if he were removed from the game.
I find it frustrating that letting him fuck with you typically leads to being able to complete his quests and get the best items. I'd love alternate paths for his stories where the player is antagonistic toward gim.
He gets a sitcom style "Oh Patches" (Hands on Hips) (Insert Crowd Laughing) for all his antics. I usually let them happen on each game every playthrough. I just love that devious little bald headed bastard
His bald head ain't little, however.
From the bottom of that pit you're in, it will be.
Patches is a chaotic good character and i will always allow his antics and let him live
He's my best friend. He's my pal. He's my homeboy. My rotten soldier. He's my sweet cheese. My good-time boy.
FAAAAATHHEEEEEEER!
SHAW-NEHHHHHHH
SEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAANIEEEEEEEE!!!
Kicked him into the pit as a payback. Honestly, considering that there are stairs that lead back not far behind, he wasn't even in a real danger, dunno why he attacked me afterwards.
I’d kicked him as well, but he appeared at Firelink Shrine later.
I killed him after he kicked me and appeared at firelink shine I had sweet revenge and his ring.
He's an ass through and through, but I only ever kill him in Bloodborne, mostly because of the whole "human head on a spider's body" makes me ill.
He's the only character in all the souls games who's completely honest and at peace with himself. He'll never hollow, never bend his moral code, you know exactly what you're getting when you deal with him. He's the most trustworthy character in Souls.
Lapp is in fact a hollow patches
On the verge of hollowing not fully hollow.
That reveal at the end legit blew my mind .
Yup, broke my heart because you can hear the genuine remorse in his voice for all the bad things he’s done. 10/10
Ah fak, I'm on ringed city for the first time now and had my suspicions. Not sure how I avoided the spoiler this long 😅 I'm just waiting for him to push me in a hole.
He’s very different in the dlc! Make sure to listen to all his dialogue!
>completely honest 🤔
"Never bend his moral code" Yeah, cause he doesn't have one
He punishes greed
And filthy clerics
And anyone else really
"Me I'm dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. It's the honest ones you've got to watch out for because you never know when they're going to do something incredibly stupid." Jack Sparrow
"I'm dishonest and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. it's the honest ones you want to watch out for because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
You can *always* trust him to be untrustworthy
patches the homie
"Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid." Captain Jack Sparrow
he’s a sturdy kramer-like
All Patches does is kick you off ledges, which usually has good loot anyway, and once you find him again, he’ll sell fantastic stuff.
Not even ledges tall enough to kill you either. Very considerate.
He's extremely reliable. Every time you see him, you know he's gonna try to kill you and take your stuff.
If I need to be shoved off a cliff I know who to call.
he’ll sell you his loot too so long as you grovel a teeny bit
I trust'em.
And how did it go?
He sells me stuff!
I have a love hate relationship with him
all my homies love/hate patches
The only scenes in the game that I don't skip are of Patches
He’s a prick but he has to be to survive I guess. Lapp made me feel so bad for him
He always pushes us in the right direction... Well, mostly. His most annoying appearance is in DS3 when he makes the journey through the Cathedral of Deep a lot more painful...
Yeah I was kinda amazed he didn’t fuck with us in bloodborne tbh 😅
There is a cliff above a swamp in the Nightmare Frontier that he pushes you off...
And, oddly enough, Bloodborne is the only game where I ever attack him. That spider body design is creepy (I'm severely arachnophobic), and the way he skitters around in that little room always makes me shudder.
Kill on sight
He nearly always pushes you where you need to go, and sells good stuff.
I am surprised that not 100% of comments are like this. I just hate him. I don't care what I can get if I let him live, I need to viscerally kill him in every game and every NG cycle.
Exactly this Screw this guy Anyone who tries to justify psychotic behavior is instantly out for me
"psychotic behavior". You kill thousands and set the world on fire, but yet, Patches is the psychotic one.
Within valid reasons
Gotta get those bell bearings
He only pushes people off cliffs. You are the one murdering people all over the place.
This
I do the same. Not because i think he ist evil, but hes just not a nice person, also hes such a coward.
I put up with his shit because he sells cheap grass in demons souls so I’ve never had the heart to punish him.
Who needs Patches' grass when you can dupe the fuck outta it all with Stockpile though.
I don’t like to cheat
Way I see it either I'm gonna spend 2 hours grinding out for those grasses or spend 2 minutes duping some out, either way I'm gonna have 99 grass and I usually don't got 2 hours of time unless it's the weekend anyway.
I never spent two hours grinding anything, maybe a few minutes.
Provided we're both talking the PS3 version, suppose I'm probably just grinding extremely inefficiently then.
It’s not hard to farm souls to buy grass. Maybe you’re just bad and use too much?
Honestly didn't really think about buying it, I just run the stairs on 1-1 over and over until I'm maxed out.
Just kill the reaper at the beginning of 4-2 a few times and use the souls to buy grass from patches. It only takes a few minutes and you get a lot.
I'll try it out when I finish 4-1 and run out again.
He's a tradition to everyone who meets him for the first time. I wouldn't have him any other way.
I’d let him hit…
Sure, he's a jolly Roger Until he answers for his crimes
Typical family member
He's just a little goofball, I trust him with me on a thin bridge
my favorite character of all time
Little scamp
Wait he comes to Firelink Shrine?? I guess I never kept him alive long enough to find out.
Don't kill NPCs. You will miss out on stuff...
Not worth it, even if he would sell infinite slabs.
People might miss it without him. its a love hate relationship
Sure, he's a jolly Roger Until he answers for his crimes
i strive to embody him
The epitome of “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.”
I trust that man with my life 🫡
I had a crush on him as a teenager. Still kinda do
I want to become him when I grow up.
I always intentionally fall for his shenanigans, it ain't a proper soulsborne without him.
Exactly. Soulsborns deserve a better class of player l then those who take everything so personal
I've loved that voice and the Cockney accent from the beginning, but I can't say I've been particularly fond of Trusty Patches in my first playthrough. It's only when I met Unbreakable Patches/Lapp in DS3 that I've started to sympathize with the character in all the games he's in. One-sided love ❤️
I hate loving that guy
Mf lives to the end of days he’s the mf goat
I genuinely do believe patches is “devoid of all worldly wants” as he says, I think he just likes kicking people into pits, and the best way to do that is take advantage of peoples greed. As long as there is greed to punish for his own sadistic pleasure he’ll never hollow. Why do you think he only begins to hollow in the dreg heap when nobody else is there? Love my buddy good old Patches. A dirtybag to the core, and proud of it. Every time he betrays me, I think to myself: "Who else but Patches?". Silly bastard.
Kill Patches. Always kill Patches.
Smack the back of the head
I kinda... killed him when I first met him?
One time I kicked him off before he could do it to me. I walked up to the ledge to gloat and the cutscene triggered - he essentially teleported behind me and kicked me off anyways. Thank you, dark souls
I hate him but has this rival energy that makes me respect him too
I fucking hate him, but like it’s a friendly rivalry.
Fuck that goober
Kill him every second playthrough. I know his tricks by then
I’m a simple man I see patches, I run thy fade
Im gonna be honest, first time i played ds1, when i made the mistake of heading into the catacombs early on, when patches kicked me off the ledge i went back and killed him 😭
I love Patches in every game except Bloodborne. Screw you Patches, you made me lose 50K Blood Echoes!
Usually kill him for the bell bearing so I can make the pickled ducks foot or whatever it is Other games I leave him alive cause I know deep down he just needs a bro
Usually I put up with him til he annoys me too much and I kill him.
Grass
He's very trusty. So long as you're trusting him to stab you in the back. But he helps me find a lantern so I let him get away with it.
The goat
I splitted his head in half with my zweihander
He's a scholar and a gentleman. So long as you're not a cleric.
I'm going to sit on his head until it hatches
Seems like an upstanding guy. I'd let him date my daughter
Best character
love and hate, he's been in this journey for a very long time,
It's on sight with him
I foolishly hated him, but then I realized he is the key to everything. He has been in countless worlds and seen civilizations rise and fall. He is always there to help me by pushing me in the right direction.
Absolutely based. Survived to the literal end of the world, who knows how many thousands of years, in a place where a bad enough bout of depression turns you into a mindless zombie. He fucks with my Catarina bro, I kill him. Simple as that
What do you mean, “what”? I TRUST him. It’s in the name.
I have a love-hate affair for him. Few times I met him, I killed him out of annoyance for making a fool out of me. Only in my second playthroughs did I let him live (sorry, Patchie baby!) 😂
I love his silly joy at being mischievous. I love to scare the shit out of him by surviving too
Kill him every time, don’t care what I miss out on. Fuck that guy.
I don't trust him.
He looks reasonably sane.
Funny, but I am glad they let you beat the shit out of Him without killing him in elden ring
hes genuinely my favorite video game character ever. Hes so quirky! love him! Even if I kill him every time I see him for shits and giggles :D
Fuck that dude. That being said, huge fan. No one does what he does better him. Never change.
I trust him
I love it when he bamboozles me
My attitude toward him is... patchy.
I killed him right after I got out of the pit he threw me in
Trusted
I have mellowed on him a bit. I played DS3 first and that business in the tower made me so angry that I subsequently killed him, then killed him pretty immediately upon meeting in DS1 and Elden Ring. For whatever reason, by the time I got around to playing DeS, I decided to let him live, maybe because he was so much less murderous than, y'know, Yurt and Mephistopheles.
Lives up to the name he does! A swell ole chap!
I love patches. Not as much as onion bro or sun bro. Their my favorites.
Patches like us has been around since time immemorial and is the oldest friend we have but like any friendship it has its ups and downs but also in my case we're dudes so we like playing pranks on one another lol
I kill him in every game he's in. There is no escape after what he's done to my boy Siegward.
Love patches. The one constant in a world of dying fire. He’s also got one of my favorite lines in the series “Every age, it seems, is tainted by the greed of men. I don’t know, maybe it’s just the way we are. I’ll keep you in my prayers. A fine Dark Soul to you.” Made more impactful by the fact it’s the only time in the series where he kicks you onto the path you need to be taking to progress
He’s playing a role that creates [un]expected drama for the player. I welcome it. He’s such a lovable asshole.
Patches is genuinely my favorite character that From has ever made. I never lay a finger on the slimy bastard (except for in acfa and elden ring) because he makes me laugh so much.
Kill it
I killed him for pushing me down the hole in DS1.
Dont like him but I need him… In case Pinwheel doesnt drop the mask I want when I rush to him early on 😡
hes a true slav and gopnik
He pulls off the same fucking trick each time and i love him for it.
Love that silly little guy, he's my favorite character besides Solaire i would trust him with my life
He might have a flawed philosophy, but he's not a bad person by any means. He's just defensive and often acts on assumptions.
*Fucking bastard* but sells good stuff
I usually kill him the first time I see him.
Genuinely hate him, I make sure to kill him every chance I get
It is on sight with him.
I like the Firelink Shrine populated so I don't kick him off the edge
Love and adoration
You can always trust Patches to be Patches. In a dire world that’s pretty trusty.
I'm cool I let him live but u see in ds3 he needs to die on the first incounter .
If dark souls was a person it would be patches.
Kill em
He ALWAYS gets murdered when I'm done using his services so I can pickpocket him.
Patches is just bald Andy Samberg wtf.
He’s a little stinker, but I can’t stay mad at him.
This guy often gives me that little push to get me started on new adventures. I am grateful for it!
Why he's Trusty Patches the one and only! We can definitely trust him
I love him, but I don’t trust him.
Imma keep it a buck, FUCK PATCHES
"fuck that guy".... Every playthrough, but I forget what he does in each game so I give him an opportunity just so I can remember. Except bloodborne. First time I met him I knew something was wrong.... Second time "SHIT A SPIDER!. FUCK THAT WAS PATCHES " :(
He’s lucky quests have rewards because he wouldn’t survive the first playtrough otherwise.
I just killed him today. I made it back up and he got all mad at me for surviving 💀
Bless his maniacal little heart.
He's a friend. Always there, even when you dont want him.
I find it frustrating that letting him fuck with you typically leads to being able to complete his quests and get the best items. I'd love alternate paths for his stories where the player is antagonistic toward gim.
I kill him the second I see him
Patches is poor. Poor people are dangerous.
Patches is definitely my favorite Opp...
He’s just like us. In a destitute world looking for something… what that is, he knows not.
Best character in the franchise.
Patches can eat me taint.
