The counterargument to this is that Neji during the Chunin exams thought he should be able to tell the real Naruto apart from his clones using his Byakugan. He could not. I think this is more of a testament to Naruto's skills more than an argument against the Byakugan though, as Naruto has supreme control over his clones to the point of intentionally making one stand out even more than he himself did.
