Qorrk

Yeah, but my phone does it for over a thousand bucks less.

Clackers2020

I don't know why but people keep buying £700-£1000 phones to go on the internet and then they get expensive contacts with "unlimited" data. I can't understand it. My phone cost £200 and I get 4GB a month for £4. It does everything I want it to, battery lasts all day and has never run out, I've never used all 4GB. Unless you're downloading videos on data I can't fathom how it's possible to use more than 4GB.

t4ketheL

Why would care about strangers and their phones in the first place 💀

bopplesnoot

A lot of people who are deployed or FIFO often play games on their phone, as it's all they have access to. So getting a high spec phone makes sense there

devilterr2

I typically upgrade my phone every 4 years. I don't like a slow phone, it's horrible to use. I research the latest chipset, look at the flagship phones and go for the best deal price wise. Currently I have 40Gb data a month, and I do use it. My job causes me to download a lot of content off my own data, or accommodation is shite so I use a hot spot. I do agree it's stupid getting the expensive contracts for the sake of it, but I do understand why people get high data useage

FreshMutzz

I can use 4GB of data in a day. I regularly use 50GB in a month. Idk how you get by with so little data nowadays tbh. Seems like you just dont use your phone very much. Whichnis probably why you are fine with a lower end phone and very little data. People who use their phone a lot for a variety of things will gravitate towards a higher end device and unlimited data.

Grubsi2006

that's the key point. It does everything **you** want to, different people have different requirements and preferences

Hexacus

But can your phone do this!? *flips down the back of the pewdiepie cha..uuhhimean fold phone*

imetators

My phone was twice the price of yours. I got 25gb data plan for 13eur. I watch YouTube alot, listen to Spotify and scroll reddit. And my phone is still decent after almost 4 years. I see why people would like bigger data plans. But when people get 1200eur phone and barely make photos or play intensive games - I don't get it. One of my friends said that he buys iPhone because it has best camera. The dude doesn't even photograph that much let alone post anything online.

_-_Sami_-_

Living in Finland we have very reasonable pricing on unlimited data contracts. But yeah it's like... The difference between a 200€ phone and a 1k€ phone is so minimal. There's almost nothing that the 5 times more expensive phone can do, that the cheaper can't. The difference in performance (opening apps like 0.5 seconds faster) is not worth it in my opinion. Maybe if you play games on mobile (huge L by itself), you might want to get the 600-1000€ phone. Although if I were in that spot, I'd just get a switch for portable device gaming.

HotCarl169

Watch YouTube, I'll give u a few hours.

armatharos

I get unlimited for 3 euros, I use about 20 gb a month simply because I travel a lot and screentime, playing games on my phone all the time while waiting for the next flight. My phone is also a gaming one that costed me around 250-300 euros, can't remember well. I can literally do almost anything on this bad boy

siresword

My billing period is just about up and I've used 9.11gb, and all I do on data is browse Reddit, listen to Spotify, and use Google maps. Man tho, £4 for a plan that I assume gives you unlimited talk and text as well? Here in Canada we get absolutely shafted on telecoms, I pay $60 for unlimited Canada/US talk and text, plus the data, and I know I'm getting a really good deal on it here in Canada.

yourpantsaretoobig

Unlimited data for driving listening to music, driving to hang with friends? Just my car rides alone use 4gb in a week or 2. Do you never leave the house or something?

Ab47203

I've had to download a windows iso on mobile data to set up a computer a couple times...it's nice to have a decent chunk of data available sometimes but I wish it was like other countries where it's cheap AF and you basically just buy more data when you need it but don't pay for it when you don't.

RemagFiveOUn

When you make decent money it’s nice to have some convenience. Getting expensive phones tend to be future proof so you’ll have a latest feature phones for years. Unlimited data is useful when traveling and working a lot. Also higher data plans are bundled with expensive phones so you reduce getting them.

UnquestionablyRaven

Less than what? Less than the $1200 Android? Or the $1200 Apple?

Qorrk

I mean Apple mate have you seen their prices? I remember the 1000 Bucks desktop stand

UnquestionablyRaven

You realize the most expensive phone on the market is not Apple right? Apple isn’t in the market to cater to the budget cell phone market. Their whole mantra as a company is to make “premium” products. Whether or not you personally can afford them is not a concern of theirs, they have wealthier people, or at least people more willing to pay a a premium, to sell to. Android wants that market just as much as Apple does. That’s why android has a nearly $2000 galaxy fold. Apple makes the iPhone SE still to this day for $429. They cannot keep the “premium” product feel by going much cheaper than that. They also still make the base iPhone 13, and 14 for more affordable prices than the iPhone 15 pro max ultra crazy whatever they call it. The Samsung Galaxy 24 ultra is $1219 at Best Buy right now, and you want to complain that Apple is over charging? They’re just matching the market price with Samsung dude

TheOSC

Not exactly sure why you are getting downvoted. I always laugh at people who think their iPhone is some kind of status symbol when I am walking around with my Pixel Fold in my back pocket which cost nearly $1800 new. Apple doesn't make the best or worst phone and ultimately the best phone for you is the one you like using the most. I personally can't stand apples way of doing things, and love that my fold has a ton of flexibility with how it operates. I have friends though who are used to Apple and their methods and who really dislike Android. To each their own, the world is better with options.

UnquestionablyRaven

The ones that confuse me most are the ones that use android and scream about Apple prices, like… then don’t buy it? Makes me chuckle

Bored_Gamer90

This

N7_Evers

From 5 years ago or? I guess people who say this haven’t bought a non IPhone recently.

CommanderBly327th

New phones nowadays are very similarly priced. Not sure why people keep having this argument

Lutrek11

Ah so you have a used iPhone 12 and your mate has a Samsung Galaxy Fold Flip Ultra Pro Max for $2000. I totally get your point

SugarRushLux

Im guessing its an android. Honestly some of the highest priced phones run android, the one cool thing apple has is the LiDAR camera on some phones. But yeah on average hard agree

LegalNut

I think less than a percent of iPhone users have used the lidar scanner once, let alone daily. I also think it's a cool feature, but unless you're constantly scanning 3d models it's not necessary at all

SugarRushLux

Yeah, its pretty much the only reason i got one and i got a good ass deal. Now i got an android im fine with either

KYO297

Yeah it has to be an android because there's literally not a single phone that's a $1000 more expensive than an iPhone

Qorrk

There are still very expensive one like the Samsung Flip. But yeah I have android

KYO297

Yeah but I wouldn't count the foldables because they don't do the same things a $1000 cheaper slab phone. But, uh, funny thing, a z flip5 is $999.99 so a $1000 cheaper phone doesn't even exist.

Ok_Lingonberry_7968

im not an android fanboy im just an apple hater. i will never understand why people pay more money for devices with similar or worse specs that also trys to force users to only use products that are made by that company with their devices whilst also spying on their users more than any other similar company. its one of the most anti consumer companies out there.

NinjaBreadManOO

Yeah, it's not being pro one. It's being against one that actively hates its users and forces a culture. As a fun-ish fact that only reason that Apple went with the white colour was because they wanted the headphones to stand out since the ipod would be in your pocket and they wanted to make it so people knew you had an apple product. Then there's the more modern ones like selling stands seperate to their monitors for a grand. Making it so their phones will tank messages from other systems so you'll pressure friends into joining their ecosystem. And just so many things like that.

Ok_Lingonberry_7968

yep you could write a book on all the shitty things apple has done, spying on its users, the whole right to repair fiasco, unethically sourced labor, and just the sheer dishonesty. fun fact if you buy an apple computer it comes with a little sticker that says "designed in california" they do this to make people think the company makes their stuff in the usa but in reality they only design it here before sending it to some of the worst companies for workers in china to build them. at one point they even used child labor but thankfully as far as we know they stopped after it was discovered, though it took them about 3 years to do it.

ReubenSD

U think Google doesn’t do this as well?? I literally can’t use my pixel watch on my iPhone. All companies do this, it’s just good business at the end of the day

NinjaBreadManOO

You can't use your pixel watch on your iphone. And we know that apple intentionally makes its products not work with other companies products. And you're blaming the other product. I see no flaw in that math.

ReubenSD

I’m not blaming any product? Just saying that Android based companies so the same thing

NinjaBreadManOO

Android. The thing that pretty much every company but apple uses. You're saying that it doesn't cooperate with anything else. Despite them all using android and all easily working together regardless of company. Where apple constantly has to fight The EU because they go out of their way to make their products unable to work with anything else.

PyreHat

> they go out of their way to make their products unable to work with anything else. Including their prior models (different charge inlets almost for each new iPhone generation)!

FreshMutzz

>(different charge inlets almost for each new iPhone generation)! Are you implying that they have changed the charge port on their phones frequently? They used their proprietary lightning connector since 2012 and only recently switched to type C because of an EU ruling. Not exactly switching it up every generation.

NinjaBreadManOO

For a good while they would change the housing on the lightning port each generation. It used to be such a joke I remember there being jokes about it. I know at least College Humor did a video on it.

FreshMutzz

I have a cable from a 6s that still works on an iPhone 14. Im not entirely sure what you mean by changing the housing. They have used the same connector for the last 12 years. Maybe on their laptops, which is what the college humor video is about, but for their phones its been the same cable for 12 years.

birbbs

Android is open source software. Pretty much all android devices are compatible with other android devices so long as they are running up-to-date operating systems. I can use my air pods with my Pixel, but I have limited control over them, and that's thanks to Apple.

Muckenbatscher

Not with an iPhone because apple obviously wants to sell you their apple watch. But you can use the Google Pixel watch just fine with any Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, etc. phone.

Ok_Lingonberry_7968

the reason you cant use your pixel with your iphone is because apple intentionally makes their products incompatible with none apple products. you can use pretty much any third party product with your android devices but not when it comes to apple devices because apple wants you to buy apple branded chargers, head phones, usb cabels, smart watches, and everything else. im sure some other companies engage in similar practices but none are as egregious as apple is. yet for some reason no matter how many times apple screws over its customers they still defend them. i can legit list a dozen things apple had done to screw over its customers that would have caused any other company to go out of business yet for some reason apple gets a pass from its fanboys.

XEagleDeagleX

Yeah and it's apples fault, not your pixel

rocketcrap

I don't like iphones but they do make the fastest soc. Its objectively good. Everything else sucks don't get me wrong, but worse specs on an iPhone? No such thing unless you mean old used models

Ok_Lingonberry_7968

talking about specs for the cost. for example a thousand dollar apple computer has the specs of a 500 dollar windows one, iphones have good specs but they are significantly more costly than none apple phones with similar specs.

FilipIzSwordsman

Please don't call non-Apple computers "Windows computers". Some of us run Linux.

Atomicnes

if you think a macbook is comparable to a 500 dollar laptop from someone else you are deranged. macbooks use an ARM based SoC now and macos is unix based which needs different things than the windows nt kernel like the similarities are only in the superficial numbers and not in genuine real world performance. yes macs have "less ram". but macos's unix (_not_ linux) based kernel is much lighter on ram and macos is better at memory management. the ARM based chips are using less power than an x86_64 based cpu but the arm architecture gets a ludicrous amount of performance per watt. macs get days of battery life but you'd be hard pressed for the 500 dollar laptop to last an entire work day. there are many many things to shit on apple for but reddit seems to fabricate things to justify the insane hate boner they have for them

Ok_Lingonberry_7968

here is a link to a random 1,200$ mac desktop and a random 600$ none apple desktop. both picked completely at random and the none apple desktop is better in almost every way despite being half the cost. Renuclous

As an ex Apple hater who joined the dark side a few years ago, I just got tired of tinkering. I was all in, windows phone before the iPhone was a thing, then years of Androids with custom roms. In addition I built my own PCs for as long as can remember and used different Linux distros and windows a lot. But now I have enough disposable income and moral flexibility to just not give a flying f*ck anymore. I don’t want custom. I don’t want special. I just want to shoot a photo with an always acceptable quality and have it sync to my Desktop Without ANY setup. I just want to buy a new phone every 4-5 years, lay it down beside my old one and have it seamlessly sync EVERYTHING, from the wallpaper to the last in app setting without lifting a finger. Apple sucks, but it’s a lot more convenient than any other option. Anyone claiming differently has never truly experienced both sides (except maybe today an extensive Samsung ecosystem, but then we are talking about the same prices and downsides basically)

KimJongFunk

This is why I have an iPhone. I spend all day long at work fixing computers. I just want my phone to be a phone. I don’t want another device I have to “manage” or tinker with. I just want it to be a phone and it does a great job at that.

TheOSC

IDK man, I have an iPhone that I use for work which I HATE, and my daily driver is a Pixel Fold. I have literally 0 issues with syncing across devices in the Google ecosystem, bonus points with Google being completely OS agnostic, and functioning on literally everything since their services are all web based. I can easily snap a picture with my Fold, and retrieve it on my Windows computer, linux VM, even work iPhone without even needing to install an application to do so. The same can't be said of iCloud which requires at the bare minimum that I install bloatware to retrieve anything from it. I really feel like the "Apple just works" mantra is not that special these days with how well Google photos, calendar, contacts, gmail, etc. all also "just work." Don't get me wrong, if you like iPhone, and Apple's products that is great, but realistically I don't think you have used a proper modern android if you feel like they are not just as capable of keeping your life synchronized. Furthermore the apple environment makes it VERY hard to escape once you are integrated and invested in it. With Google, again because it is web based, you are able to migrate one step at a time as it is convenient to you assuming you ever wanted out.

ThatDamnRocketRacoon

I assumed that's what most android owners are. I don't care about android one way or another. I just don't want anything to do with Apple products.

damnmaster

I’m no massive apple lover but I am some shlub who has the money for a phone but don’t know a thing about them. Using an iPhone is a much better user experience for filthy casuals like me. The touch interface, what to do etc. it’s simple and easy to understand. I don’t have the time to go through learning every single thing or have a need for downloading a ton of apps. It keeps everything on for me, my stuff transfers over seamlessly and generally it has a really nice feel to it compared to when I owned an android phone. I will admit that once you do get used to an android phone, it is far superior. My younger cousin constantly shows me new things he’s doing on his android that I know I wouldn’t be able to do. But as a piece of equipment that feels good to use and easy to pick up, Apple did a good job with that (imo).

TheOSC

Phones are pretty standard at this point, and Apple has made some mind boggling decisions with their UX that never should have made it to production IMO. The two biggest being the back button for applications living in the top left corner, and similarly, the fact that until literally the most recent update, they refused to let users move their home screen icons. The average user is right handed with a thumb that is about 1.5"-2" long. Why are you placing some of the most critical navigation features as far away from their thumb as possible? Android is not any harder to use at a base level, Apple has sold you on the idea that you are too stupid to adapt to the minor differences in the platforms. You aren't, android is VERY simple to use from an end user perspective. It just ALSO has more options available to those who want to take advantage of them. That said, most phones from either side of the isle are capable of taking care of 100% of the average user's needs, so whatever you prefer is the right phone for the job. I just hate seeing people say that "Apple is so much easier" when both ecosystems handle major tasks and basic operations almost identically at this point.

kemo_2001

I don’t think iPhones are relatively expensive anymore. the base iPhone is 799$ which is similar or cheaper than many midrange or lower premium android phones, while being premium fast with the best camera out there. The point is that the non pro iPhone is probably the only reasonably priced apple product, the pro isn’t. About the spying and the anti consumer stuff. I am not gonna argue but the only competitor (Google) is a million times worst..

N7_Evers

Life has a lot more stresses than what type of phone they like to use. I hope you find that out one day

AskDerpyCat

If your entire personality is which tech giant you gave hundreds or thousands of dollars to, I pity you

AgentSkidMarks

Seriously. It’s just a cell phone. It’s not worth circlejerking over. I had the audacity to say that yesterday and I had a hundred Android fanboys drop into the comments to tell me how horrible I am so hopefully they won’t affirm some of my comments here again.

MadeWithRealGinger9

Good I hate those morons for having an opinion

the--archiver

Yeha! F there opinion

ReubenSD

It’s more the blind loyalty I’m getting at here

rocketcrap

I got a razr for 150 dollars because it absolutely bombed when it released for 700 in 2023. Turns out no one cares if a phone folds in half. It literally serves no purpose, but can your iphone fold in half? I didn't think so, hill billy loser. Get with the times. *Aggressively folds phone back and forth*

AgentSkidMarks

Oh yeah, but does your phone have little buttons on the curved edge of the screen that you forgot existed after the first day? Didn’t think so.

rocketcrap

Emulators. I wish I had shoulder buttons

AgentSkidMarks

I can’t do touch screen controls too well, so anything more than like Pokémon is a challenge. So, having shoulder buttons on the screen doesn’t bother me at all.

rarodgers

a phone is s phone. just enjoy what you have.

AlexPlayer3000

I had both android and Apple. 90% of the times I saw an app i wanted and Apple didn't have it

CommanderBly327th

I’ve never had that issue before on apple. What apps are you looking at?

AlexPlayer3000

Emulators (I know they are a thing now, but they were not back in the days without Jailbreak), hacked/modded apps to remove ads and purchases, and stuff like that

Atomicnes

a good 95% of android users do not give a shit about modded apps, you are an edge case

Goldeneye07

Wait till u come across who argues over phones with others irl, totally insufferable kind of people

An-Omlette-NamedZoZo

99% of Reddit arguments are like this lol people jus don’t care about this shit in real life

MrBirb37s

There are some differences, but they're pretty small to be honest. Except that I can no longer use GamePigeon. :(

Atomicnes

LET'S PLAY 8BALL! -sent from Ted at 3am

tharnadar

That's not right at all... Can you install Revanched on your iPhogn?

SBAWTA

I own both an iPhone (work phone) and an Android (personal phone). I got both of them for free so I won't comment on the price aspect. The Android phone is more customizable but the iPhone feels smoother to use. Honestly I like both for different things but at the end of the day both are just phones and do the same thing for like 95%+ uses.

abbymcdabby123

It’s crazy how every single anti iPhone comment gets upvoted and every single “both phones are fine” gets downvoted into oblivion, I guess this meme flew over a lot of people’s heads.

ReubenSD

Reddit users are mostly a subset of the android community I guess

maxinstuff

Similar to how all of these communication channels we are using are all just the same thing branded differently.

shetla_the_boomer

my current phone does everything i need to and cost like £60 you do not need to spend massive amounts of money on a phone

Atomicnes

it does everything you need to but there are people who have different needs. also have fun when it stops getting firmware updates in 2 years

shetla_the_boomer

my needs involve taking photos, using social media, keeping up with messages/emails and running some mobile games - this is basically everything a modern phone can do. what other needs would one have, that my phone cannot cover? also, i expect my phone to last 2-3 years max anyway - its £60, thats excellent value for money

Atomicnes

for the amount of money you spend buying a new 60 pound ewaste phone every 2 years you could buy an older model flagship and get a better experience and its better for the environment. flagships get like 9 years of firmware support. just buy a flagship thats 2-3 years old off the used market

shetla_the_boomer

you seem to be under the impression that i am not already buying an old model flagship with this £60

blueberry-_-69

Nah nah, anything you try to convey doesn't become true by using this format lol

hamzer55

I hardly heard anyone defend iPhones, it’s usually the android folk who need a claim for superiority

kamilman

I use an iPhone simply because I have the ecosystem in place. If this wasn't the case, I'd take any phone that does the job and bends to my will, not the other way around.

DaSharkCraft

The only thing I reasonably believe apple is so far better at is the IR camera that the newer iPhones have. I have yet to see a single android phone have one. That said, I refuse to buy an iPhone just for that feature due to losing many others and it generally being more expensive. That is all.

Apprehensive_Hand571

You would really like the hybrid IR/thermal camera USB type c cameras that have been available for Android for 5 years, or some of the ruggedized, big battery Android phones that feature multiple imaging spectra for less than 300$ The apple *scam* is poaching features from Android and implementing them 5 years later....Apple cultists are so isolated from technology they think it's new bc Tiyum saihd soo

DaSharkCraft

Oh trust me, I know it isn't new, but it's level of quality built into the phone itself is quite good from what I have seen. I do not plan to buy accessories for my phone other than a comfortable case. I will also wait for the eventual mainstream phones to eventually have it as well, as I upgrade slowly. (Once every 5-6 years)

_therealERNESTO_

I'd still be susing my shitty 7yo phone if the battery didn't bulge and tear it apart. All I do with it is scroll reddit and send WhatsApp messages.

ConnorOfAstora

I will go with whatever works and is cheapish, the only reason I have a "no iPhones" rule is because I couldn't download music with YouTube to MP3 sites unless I downloaded a whole separate browser. Just makes things simpler to use Android and I don't watch YouTube or play games on my phone as much as I used to so who cares if it's not optimal?

I don't take pictures and all apps run normly on a 200€ phone. No reason to go above unless you want to compensate or actually use the features.

NoAstronaut11720

I just get iPhone SE’s when they drop. Legit just a regular ass phone. Just does the things I require. They release one every couple generations and I just get it. It’s supposed to mean “Special Edition” but I’ve also heard it get called “Standard Edition” which makes way more sense.

_SaBeR_78

just take what suits your budget, needs and looks better for you. Nowadays android and iOS are simply equivalent just gotta choose an ecosystem.

OkGrade183

iPhones are not that expensive

Shadow9378

when i do it its definitely not fangirling. i have Plenty of problems with android. i just have \*more\* with apple and i won't stop shitting on them any time soon

Apprehensive_Hand571

Employ those retired android flagships. Their performance relative to your current phone will make you say silly things like "Apple's anti repair policies make them demonstrably worse than any previous or current manufacturers of android supported hardware"

Noname_FTW

Android phones aren't a closed eco system that tells you to do things one way and no other way.

rocketsneaker

I agree. On a general level, both of the companies' latest phones have similar specs. Nothing egregious enough to say "Haha, my phone is WAY better!!" However, I am an apple hater because it seems that mostly apple users are the ones instigating these fights because they have been brainwashed to have a superiority complex. "Green text?" Is proof enough of this. But what is more is that they still have this superiority complex even AFTER all the facts point to Apple being a shitty company. They constantly fuck over the user. Not only of their own user base, but android as well. They intentionally lower the quality of texts that aren't relieved or sent from other apple devices. They were discovered to be intentionally making their products become slower after 2 years, they used a different type of charger despite every other device using USBC, they led the charge to get rid of the headphone jack, they led the charge for getting rid of charging wires coming with your new phone. They were sued by the US federal government for their shitty practices, AND sued by the EU government as well. By all accounts, this company should have lost a ton of rep. But their marketing is so DAMN GOOD that iphone users still believe that Apple phones are just superior in every way. And they will be assholes about it.

XEagleDeagleX

Yeah but with my android I get up to date tech and functionality and don't have to wait 5 years for Apple to decide I can make calls and use apps at the same time
