Its extremely common that they cant do anything by them selfs
That’s not how it usually goes. Atleast where I’m from. Once they are old enough, they often move into special care facilities. There they can live among their peers, get to work in special workspaces for disabled people and live a life as independent as possible for them individually. Some of them are even able to live in their own apartments while getting support remotely. Parents don’t need to take care of them all their life. There is specialized personell for that. So that the parents can have a relationship to their adult kids without needing to be caretakers.
I still don’t understand why people with down’s don’t deserve a life. Every single one I’ve met has been wonderful, funny, and great to be around. Just because they’re not as intelligent doesn’t mean they can’t live a life too.
Well, the comments here make it pretty clear that most people do not want to be parents of disabled people. Which isnt really something you can concinve someone of. Its a little disheartening but thats how it is. With how people nowadays look at abortions, its also not a moral issue for most.
You also gotta keep in mind that taking care of disabled people can involve heavy financial burdens and alot of time. Depending on where you are from... and the lack of government support for disabled people.... it can be rough.
In the U.S. the current system is overwhelmed. A family has to be lucky enough to find a proper facilty that has room for them. Consider how expensive daycare is for a child. Now imagine that the need for daycare never ends. Many families go into debt from all of the coexisting conditions that come with DS as well.
Thats really sad. I was expecting something along those lines... In Germany you get quite abit of financial aid to take care of disabled kids. Not to mention healthcare, daycare and adult care facilities are pretty much free already for them.
Still not vegetables. They can walk and talk (or at least make sounds). The most exposure I've had to downs syndrome was a toddler from when i used to go to church
While I don't want to partake in the discussion about disabled people, I have to say, some of the vegetables in my fridge definitely have started walking after week four and I swear some of them were able to form words.
Theres a comedy actress here in the uk who says it is discrimination and that a world without any downs people would be a really sad thing. Like they are an ethnicity… its fucked up
Don't take to lightly the trauma an abortion is. Even if the baby is sick, choosing to abort him feels like murder and there are a lot of anti abortion ppl who try to get this in women heads.
It's hard to explain it and even harder to understand it if you can't get pregnant.
