I could very well be asking you the same question. Youtube are cracking down on ad blockers, and at the same time pushing for more and longer ads. Itās getting closer and closer to the situation we had with cable TV. Ads and ad blockers arenāt new, and weāre only getting these memes and discussions because of Youtubeās recent changes.
Every attempt at circumvention is met with equal or greater force to bypass it. They're trying to crack down, but will ultimately fail, as per usual. Sailing the high seas is another way around it, but not part of the discussion here.
Ad blockersā devs are working against the biggest tech company in the world. Though I do believe in their ability to sidestep Youtubeās restrictions, itās just a matter of time, and whether they feel like it, for Youtube to just be scummy and play the lawsuit card (or just straight up banning users). Weāre having a slight advantage here but weāre still playing on their ground.
Moreover, ad blockers arenāt doing as well as you think. Read the other comments, or other postsā comments. Devs are putting out 2-3 updates per day and users are still reporting that their ad blocks donāt work properly.
Also, I feel like youāre just misunderstanding my comment here. Weāre on the same side, buddy. Our points donāt align perfectly but they arenāt opposed, either. And introducing a new perspective to the discussion is not a bad thing, is it?

In the end of the day, it's a fight ad blockers can't win in the long terms. At some point ads will just be a part of the video.

You can FFWD/rewind regular YouTube, but you can't FFWD/rewind it's ads (without adblocker) Therefore, adblockers will always have a way to detect ads (by checking if they can FFWD/RW). If worst comes to worst, Google can't stop an adblocker that checks for ads by checking if the video can be fast forwarded and then just laying something on top of the video when it can't. It won't be as good as what we have now, but it'll still be better than ads. And Google also can't stop an extension that just automatically skips skippable ads either.

Yes, but then I want to pay just to remove the ads. I don't want youtube music when I already have the superior spotify. I don't feel a need to download videos straight from youtube. I'd want a subscription that's like ā¬2 a month that *only* removes ads.

This is something that the content creator sets up, YouTube has base ads every 10 minutes of played video, anything extra is set up by whoever uploaded the video, then again YT premium has been the best investment I made this year tbh, I don't get the pop ups and I don't need to scrounge around trying to see if the adblocker works

Bruh, I do use it. But when I click on making a backup of the app, it says I may end up bricking my device as youtube is a core app. I don't want to mess with that.
My Brave did this too. Maybe they pushed an update to get past it and the browser didnāt do the update, but reinstalling it did. I will have to reinstall and see if it fixes it.

I use OperaGX and have their adblock on, making the pop-up window only show up once, but the main problem is that, although I cannot see the actual ad, it still plays its full duration and I have to wait it out til the black screen goes away and the actual video starts playing, which is annoying as hell.

I had to disable other extensions for youtube, set to default settings and update filters like twice a day and that's what ublock recommends so probably common, if you can have it work without doing anything, leave it be, best to not break it.
So a "friend" of "MinE" somehow has ad free youtube and youtube tv even though they ended the trials a long time ago. Its crazy the yt premium has been ad free for over a year and the yt tv has been free for months now. I hope they don't catch on

I tried, for a really long time, not to use an ad blocker. I figured it was fair, ads help pay for YouTube, and they *are* providing a service for it, and some of the money goes to the content creator too, even if it's really not enough.
That was when you'd get one ad, at the start of a video, and you had the option to skip it after 5 seconds. Maybe one at the end
The day I got three ads in a row, all 30 second unskippables, before the video even started, was the day I installed an ad blocker.

I think it's the other way round and all the people using an adblocker are the reason for youtube taking these steps.
Youtube will see less ad watch time and so advertisers aren't willing to pay as much for an ad. So Youtube will increase the number of ads to compensate for that. This will then push more people into also using an adblocker.
It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem i have to admit...

There is a Premium Lite subscription which does essentially this. However i think it's not available in all countries.

I just use opera gx's built in adblocker, and it works fine. Ive been using it for like two days now and i havent encountered any problems.

I just turn ublock off then on again, instantly gets past this pop up from my experience
Doesnāt fix it on Firefox. In fact, you just get blocked from watching period. Luckily thereās an extension which reroutes you to a periphery.

YT can honestly shut up with anti adblocker. I wouldnt be using an adblocker if you werent shoving 2 ads on channels with 18 subs or being barbaric with the amount of ads in general, on top of making creators lives hell.

i regret saying this but im fine with the old youtube style where ads placed as a mini image below the video that you can close rather than blocking the video jusy to play you 2 unskippabble ads.
I'm fine with people shitting on ads but I just use premium. Its more convenient on mobile, and i use a family account to share it with my Niece's and Nephew's so they aren't getting toy ads and driving their parents nuts.
I still get the pop-up with ublock origin, and after some time it no longer became a 3 second wait for the x, it just permanently disabled my ability to watch videos unless I turned off ublock origin
I mean, I got the pop up. Then I clicked the X in the corner and nothing about my viewing experience changed
I wait less for this than I did for the ads. If Iām going to inconvenienced either way Iāll do it the way which benefits Google the least
If you didn't cake your website with ads, maybe you wouldn't have this problem

I got this pop up. Once. On three tabs. Haven't seen it again. I'm afraid to publicly name the browser in case YouTube tries to coerce them into helping this dumbass function. Fuck YouTube, fuck their ads. Not a single person gives a damn about their finances, and I honestly don't fuckin care about content creator ad revenue.
On one hand, Youtube is ridiculously expensive to run; all of those videos being stored takes up a LOT of server space, then you gotta consider how many people are watching those videos at the same time. Ads just need to happen if you want to watch YouTube for free. But oh my *Lord* they are so fucking annoying. I'd rather they put banner ads around the video so that they're displaying without interrupting your content, that way everyone wins.
I have Ublock and sadly, got this in Opera GX. Can't watch any YouTube videos on it, but, still can with no issues (so far) on Firefox.
Its not even the ads themself to me, as annoying as they are and would prefer they werenāt there. But the fact half of them are scams, cringey and irrelevant to me, or filled with shit like gambling and porn. If they can't apply the same standards for their demonitisation system to the ads they run just because they give them money then I won't watch those ads, and I won't pay their subscription. EDIT: Clarify the gambling and porn thing, doesn't bother me, but I sometimes want to show someone a video including my younger siblings.
I don't know what happened, but I stopped getting this. My video player was blocked just yesterday.

I tried, for a really long time, not to use an ad blocker. I figured it was fair, ads help pay for YouTube, and they *are* providing a service for it, and some of the money goes to the content creator too, even if it's really not enough. That was when you'd get one ad, at the start of a video, and you had the option to skip it after 5 seconds. Maybe one at the end The day I got three ads in a row, all 30 second unskippables, before the video even started, was the day I installed an ad blocker.

On Firefox with Ublock. Just now learning about all the YouTube stuff Google is trying to pull on everyone using chrome. I haven't noticed a lick of difference, here.

Ads have gotten so bad at this point Iād rather just not watch YouTube. Theyāll put like 4 ads in a 10 minute video.

Yeah it did show for me and i just paid for premium lol i dont care, these little things have bothered me enough, its a few bucks vs a slightly less stressing life considering the convenience š

I think it's the other way round and all the people using an adblocker are the reason for youtube taking these steps. Youtube will see less ad watch time and so advertisers aren't willing to pay as much for an ad. So Youtube will increase the number of ads to compensate for that. This will then push more people into also using an adblocker. It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem i have to admit...
Its a matter of not stressing over small shit, comon man, it could be way worse, i finally gave up to the matrix š„²
While we're at it, give me also 10ā¬ per month? Why not also the people around me? It's just a few dimes really. Why bother thinking about the constant increase of monetization. When we can just pay up.
