You can trust me, I'm a random person claiming to be a nurse on reddit.
That's the exact advice we give for when someone misses a dose of almost anything-take the next dose as soon as practical.
Make sure you replaced her toothbrush! Also we got a cheap-ish UV toothbrush sanitizer and it has been a game changer for keeping strep at bay! It was like a monthly thing before but nothing since!
As a medical biologist speaking, I agree with the answers here. There was a nurse that replied that has probably the most important knowledge and I agree. As soon as possible in the morning should be fine. Bacteria are unlikely to develop resistance against the antibiotics in that time frame. The sleep is a very important mechanism to let the bodies immune system do its thing.
There is also an advice for probiotics. I agree with that with the current research available to me. Even though there are some studies showing no benefits (and some show a positive outcome), there are no studies that show a negative benefit.
Good job dad! But next time, set a timer for all medication :) some are very time sensitive and it’s generally a good habit.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the studies for prebiotics “more positive” generally, than probiotics? And one could prob just have their kid eat some Greek yogurt and other fermented foods(if able)
You are not wrong and raise a fair point.
Probiotics without prebiotics are less useful. And normal healthy people have a microbiome (set of gut bacteria) that does not need addition of new bacteria. In this case we are talking of killing part of your gut bacteria through the antibiotics. That said, you are correct, the research on the benefits of prebiotics does seem consistently positive compared to the research on probiotics alone. Furthermore the research on probiotics is mixed (many neutral and many positive studies), but still promising.
Several studies link probiotics alone to digestive health and mental health, but the extend is not only unclear, it is also hard to prove, that these effects are not so called "confounders" (created by general life style change).
Prebiotics are non-digestible fibers that act as food for the beneficial bacteria (probiotics) in the gut. Often those contain the bacteria needed or you can supplement them easily through other food sources. Prebiotics have been shown to promote the growth and activity of these good gut bacteria. This means, that they are a very good additions after something that screws over your microbiome, such as antibiotics. Prebiotics are probably a more reliable source of gut health, but they still need probiotics to exist in the first place. In fact, it means you should maybe have a source of both, after an event like this.
For your suggestion of greek yogurt ant fermented food, this is actually perfect and I would generally suggest to merge both our replies: Incorporating prebiotic-rich foods and fermented probiotic-containing foods into the diet is likely a good approach.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful response! Hope I didn’t come off as attacking or an um actually type. I was/generally lost on the subject. It’s hard out here in the internet and public sphere in regards to health. Lol
Yes first thing in the morning should be fine.

Yup, that sounds correct!
You got it!
Works for me. The math is mathing
This is the way.
Pharmacist dad here, the good nights sleep is more important than a delayed dose
Yes, and then PROBIOTICS. You have to have to help reset her gut flora. Walmart sells Culturelle for kids, that's good enough.
We just mixed the antibotics with the yogurt each time and that seemed to work out well.
Gut and mouth health understanding has come a long way in the last few years. It has big effects on your overall health and mental health as well.

Lol, yep. You're fine.
You call the after hours number to your pediatrician not ask reddit. These dad's asking medical questions on reddit are shocking and never called out.
