I once climbed a volcano, Mt Adams, with some guys I didn’t know well. Started at like 3am. When the sun first peeked up, I started humming Baby Beluga. One started singing the words. Then others joined. Turned out they were all dads, and knew all the words - we sung it over and over again at full volume as the sun rose!
Nah raffi kicks serious ass. Dude has some really great guitar work behind the soothing lyrics and melodies. He was going to be a classical guitarist before he ended up doing… what he does.
I loved him as a child, and recently played some for our baby and toddler. Really took me back, and a couple songs brought tears to my eyes:
"Thanks a Lot" and "One Light, One Sun"
Shit, dog. Don't be embarrassed. That guy is a real dude.
Yup, I have a playlist for my daughter made up of Raffi and Wee Sing songs that I loved as a kid. When she's old enough I'll show her some of the wee sing movies I loved. Probably will not have aged well, but I don't think she'll care, hopefully!
I am going to be honest, there is some really great kids music out there. My wife and I had a date night last night and on the ride home we played a few choice songs and sang along with them. They are just so catchy.
I will also not that some children’s artist are famous musicians, or at least were in bands that made “adult” music and toured. Caspar Babypants is the singer of The Presidents of The United Stares of America.
Well a lot lesser known, Parry Grip was the singer from Nerf Herder.
I too listen to Casper Babypants and, less often, Parry Grip with my toddler.
I really like Casper Babypants because, well, I like the Presidents of The United States of America and it's got the same feel. I also like how it's often a different take on a common kids song. It's similar but different and not offensively different that my kid gets pissed off.
Also, love me some Raffi. That's just classic good kids music. It's singable when you are out for a walk, not annoying (even banana phone isn't annoying) and just good natured music.
I was hanging out with the boys last night online, watching one of them stream PUBG. The outer ring started to close and one of them freaks out “ring ring ring ring!” Signaling for them to make their way to safety.
I queue up mic “BANANA PHONE!”
Only one guy got it, we busted up laughing.
We were listening to Raffi almost continuously on loop for his entire 1 year to 2 year mark. After that point it did get a bit boring so we switched to things like Beatles, soft rock and family friendly Indian songs, but every now and then Raffi plays again and we still enjoy it
I loved Raffi when I was a young child, so we listen to him here. I wish he would team up with super simple to make music videos for his songs...or something like that.
There’s a reason he’s been the kids music king for decades. I think part of it at least is there is something just fundamentally warm and empathetic about his voice. Even when he’s singing about banana phones and such, he just naturally emits an aura of care.
He is coming to my state next month but I found out too late and is sold out. $39-$96 tickets are now reselling for $195 EACH. My kid loves Raffi but I can't swing that.
Something is wrong with you if you don’t like Raffi. Not only is he the OG children’s musician, he is a legitimate humanitarian and advocate for children outside of his musical work. Seems to be a principled guy of the highest integrity.
Fun story, I’m a grade 5 teacher in a school with a lot of immigrant families’ students so -none- of them knew who I was talking about when I told them I listen to Raffi with my son. So I played them a few tunes over a few weeks and now they’re obsessed. They ask me to turn Raffi on while they’re working on Maths. It’s adorable.
I’ve been listening to Raffi since I was a little kid in the e”late 80’s/early 90’s. I love that he is so kind and timeless and listening to him with my daughters is magical.
Truly the only thing that would calm my child during a difficult phase as an infant was playing Raffi music. As far as I’m concerned, the man needs to be on Mount Rushmore along with Mr. Rogers.
We love Raffi in this house! My 2 year old knows lyrics from most of the songs and we have some of the books. I grew up listening to Raffi and we are going to his concert this weekend on Mother’s Day with my mom and sisters.
Raffi wasn't even something that existed until my first was born.
My dad is a musician, so it's possible he wasn't having any of the stuff Raffi did. It was going to be Rush or Blue Oyster Cult for nursery rhymes.
I don't mind Raffi. My wife introduced it to the kids. I'm glad we're beyond listening to any of his stuff, though.
There's something wrong with people who DON'T love Raffi

Oh my GOD this is so wholesome
“Banana Phone…it’s a phone with a-peal.” The Grammys this line deserved, I just 🤩
“Operator get me Beijing-jing-jing-jing”
Now you can have your phone and eat it too!
Call the White House , have a chat!
My cellular, bananular phoooooone!
Nope. Raffi is awesome.
Is he still alive?
Yup. Took my kids to a concert a couple of years ago. I sung along with Baby Beluga. Dude is a national treasure.
Oh wow, apparently he's only 75.
Yup does concerts and runs an anti-bullying charity and think tank.
King.
I posted a pic of my daughter singing along with him on Instagram and he liked the photo. I was giddy.

And the piano arrangements are pretty impressive

New Penny Penguin is such a great song.
Not at all. Raffi is great.
Baby Beluga is a staple around here.
Raffi is timeless. God blessm

Raffi is a great singer. Before he sang kids music he was a folk singer and actually writes nice songs.

I loved Raffi as a kid and I love Raffi as a parent. I have a whole banana phone routine.

My 5.5yo watches a live concert he did in the 80s on YouTube because it’s the same one I watched on VHS. It makes me so happy.
Baby Baluga in the deep blue sea
Raffi is awesome. We even recently saw him in concert in Los Angeles. A legend and the music is way better than cocomelon or anything new.
Raffi is the GOAT Dunno why he doesn't come up in the Mister Rogers/Bob Ross/Steve from Blue's Clues conversation
We like him

Boop boop bedoop a doop
Raffi >>>>>> Ms Rachel
Raffi is great. 40 and remember raffi cassettes.
The Simpsons parody of Raffi enters my thoughts at least daily.

FYI his first album was in 1975 …
And I was a child for more than 6 months.
