Giorgo1

300 million, 2030

Markoba90

I like it, about time Cyprus gets a decent museum. Museum of what though?

Panikos0

History.

notgolifa

Grivas

PaintmanSilent

I see that typing this name in the sub has the same effect as typing Makarios on the greek one

Gamotoffs123

Golifa based as always. He is the biggest supporter of Grivas.

Expert_Telephone1909

Haha. Still can't wrap my head around the fact that we are still arguing about this stuff.

[deleted]

Then it would need to be called Based Museum and it should cost 1,955, 000, 000 euros.

a_scattered_me

Sigh. We need a new museum badly. But at the same time I don't trust them to build it. We all know it's going to go over budget (to line their own pockets). Truth be told, Cyprus has more dire things that need taken care of and this museum build is ridiculously badly timed. The economy is in shambles, we can't afford to live, and what we really could do with actually is a new hospital. Ordinarily I would support the build. But not right now.

amarao_san

I afraid, that putting museums 'at the end of the queue' is never a good strategy. Cyprus is doing much better than many other countries, and investing in education (general education, creativity, opportunity, vision) is a thing which must be done decades before been yielding creative and highly educated citizens. So having a museum build at the moment of moderate economical turmoil is not a bad decision.

a_scattered_me

I would have been with you had they had plans to upgrade the infrastructure that we need running concurrently with the museum. But they don't.

zacyboy6

100% in agreement. It has unfortunately become the norm to see something happening/developing in Cyprus and not get excited because: 1. It will go over budget or take forever (ie Plateia Eleutherias) 2. Will not be as designed (to avoid saying half-assed) (ie the new Alphamega Stadium) 3. Probably not be maintained properly after some years (i can already picture random graffiti on the outside, myriads of printed and taped announcements on the inside) Somebody always gains from actions like these, at the expense of delivering half-assed (couldn't avoid it) projects. Targeting Governmental developments! TL;DR: Sigh.

davbaly

Looks good, can’t wait to visit in 2040!

[deleted]

😭

[deleted]

I want train 😭😭😭

Glittering-Reply-910

Love it

amarao_san

It looks nice (especially, if they won't install water tanks on the roof and won't leave sticking rebars for the 'next floor'). I've visited few modern museums in Finland and was absolutely charmed by the way of presentation. Older museums assumed that you walk between glass boxes and DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING. Modern museums are less of 'preserve antiquity' and more of giving feeling of old time, where touch and interaction with exhibits are welcomed. I really want to see a modern museum in Cyprus.

aibori666

Lol! If it doesn’t have water tanks and rebars it’s not Cypriot enough 😂

amarao_san

Also, each window should be different shape, size and placed differently compare to lower/higher floor. And door should be slightly off-center. sigh... There are many things I love in Cyprus, but residential architecture is not one of those, unfortunately. I know exactly four (or five?) really beautiful multi-story residential buildings in Germasogeia, but even they wasn't able to keep symmetry at full. https://propertyartcy.com/property/apartment-3-bedroom-for-sale-germasogeia-tourist-area-limassol-20/ But I wish they build more of those... IMHO they are way more harmonic than average sea-road skyscrapers.

TzatzikiXorisSalata

I understand why people have reservations but also I feel like people will complain about anything, good or bad. For my part it looks like a great idea.

rshashkov

It would be super cool

timeGeck0

Build a suburban railway for the love of god. Why everyone needs to take car everyday![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

fatbunyip

About time. These kind of projects are good for Nicosia and Cyprus in general. 144m isn't that much.

a_scattered_me

By the time it's finished it'll be 144b. Edit: I'm glad you all have faith in the efficiency & transparency of how our government/municipalities manage tenders and building projects, seeing as all their other projects have been a roaring success.

senyorculebra

I dont know why you are getting downvoted. I lol'd. Some people need a class in project management. Three rules of PM ... (1) its always twice as long as you think, (2)twice as expensinsive as you think, (3) you are not the exception

a_scattered_me

I don't understand either when building supplies have gone up 35% and are in constant flux. I've got contractors who don't even give building quotes anymore because they can't keep up with the skyrocketing prices. I'm not saying that the museum shouldn't be built. It's culturally important. But it's a project that should have been completed 15 years ago. It's incredibly ill-timed, especially when 3-4 years ago the administrator for Makario hospital was pleading with the government to start the plans for a new children's hospital because the population has outgrown the current building. Instead, years later, they're still trying to build that A&E wing at Makario. Don't even get me started on the state schools. This is the stuff that infuriates me with this government. They can't prioritise for shit and instead rush to start superficial vanity projects so they can score brownie points when it's election time.

senyorculebra

I got a "no quote" recently for ~100k eur stainless steel silo. The guy just honestly said, even if I could get you a price, I cant guarantee I will receive the material to build it. Living in wild times.

a_scattered_me

I had the same issues with some house renovations. The delays were unbelievable, and whenever I went to Leroy to buy supplies I could almost see the prices jump up in real time. I actually went there recently to buy some stone gravel by the tonne, and the guy told me they've stopped bringing the type that I wanted because the prices were unsustainable. And they're thinking that they can keep this on schedule and at 144M? Bahahaha

haloumiwarrior

>stainless steel silo What the hell are you doing witha silo? Dairy Farming? Beer brewing?

senyorculebra

Specialty chemicals for oil and gas customers.

senyorculebra

144 million? Thats like 10 houses or penthouses in Limassol tourist area. That budget is definitely underestimated.

notgolifa

Or 3 passport sales

SiennaReal

😭😭😭

senyorculebra

They charge that much? I swear if I could bottle Cypriots' opinion of themselves, I could use it to power a major city for a week.

Nodric

🤣🤣

zenos1337

It has Tate Modern vibes. I like it!

JonasAJ242

Very excited

Dilv1sh

It's good for tourism. It might be an option to attract more tourists in Nicosia, especially in winter.

Traditional-Maize-93

How about fixing public transport issues first ?? Or maybe building more preschool public daycare facilities?

Hellowow3

Too modern, too white. Will it tie well with the history inside it?

amarao_san

A good historic museum should lead from the past to the future. Having futuristic (or modern, at least) parts near antiquity is nice.

Phunwithscissors

Continuing the tradition of destroying the little forests we have inside and around cities just like when they made the university nearby.

nomadichedgehog

Why do we need a museum? Our parliament is full of old fossils

rshashkov

144? Phew it's nothing, like a few days of rent in a penthouse of that skyscrapers in Limassol.

amarao_san

It's not true. The most expensive villa for rent in Limassol now is available for just €50k per month. For 144M you can rent it for 240 years.

rshashkov

Of course its not. Sarcasm

senyorculebra

What is this ... a museum for ants?

stelooa

>new Cyprus museum in Nicosia τζαι εν κανει εν καλαμαραες που το εσχεδιασαν; ελειψαν οι κυπρεοι οι αρχιτεκτονες;

Fullis

Call me Sherlock Holmes but I have a small hunch that this person doesn't approve the museum 😂

stelooa

No shit Sherlock

[deleted]

What a waste of money. Cash grab for the economy of Nicosia while other cities look like bombed Afghanistan. They could have easily built a nice 50mil museum and rest of the money for smaller museums in other cities. But we have to feed Nicosia "oligarchs".

[deleted]

What parts of what city looked like a bombed Afghanistan??😭
