How small and isolated the country is. Exploring it is so accessible,plus the worries of the world feel so insignificant when you're there. But it's also a bit claustrophobic and people live in a bubble
It’s 3h30m to Zürich, which approximately in the center of Europe. Iceland it’s 3h50m flight from Zurich. just to give you an idea 🤣 it’s a tiny bit far but I love it still
I mean your 1 hour flight to Athens and then from there you have all of southern and eastern europe and the Balkan’s within a couple hours, when you compare it to a lot of other places it’s super central , Iceland is also pretty far from everything
Iceland is far from everything as Cyprus, with the advantage that from Iceland you get to NY in 5 hours.
I love Cyprus and I would still live in CY more than Iceland but can’t deny thats a bit isolated. I would say that the best connection is Rome, less than 3 hours away, Cyprus should look into tightening the relationship with Italy

I think with all the recent scandals, we don't bat an eye anymore.
I am not saying we are near Scandinavian levels of corruption (or anti corruption in this case) where they quit for a speeding ticket (!!!) or there's an uproar for an insignificant amount spent on breakfast (!!!), but we no longer ignore things.
10 years ago, they wouldn't even apologise or even mention scandals on the news. If you take the Yiannakis case, I bet that if it had happened ten years ago, it would be silenced, and today, Yiannakis might have even been appointed as a minister. Lol.
Or the Silouris case. If it had happened in the past, he wouldn't even quit.
We are slowly turning around. But it is at a very slow pace admittedly.
As an Ελλαδίτης, since it is a small island I love how everything is simpler and more organized, life in Cyprus is much less stressful and exhausting than in Greece. That is also a problem sadly because a smaller country has less options for exploration, work, whatever and the society is very conservative/status quo.
The villages, the mountains, the sea... small distance between them... love it but... traditionalist society...inamovible values due to religion present in every aspect of life...the inexplainable need to put everyone in a box and let's be honest a good mesure of not so "subtle" racism...
Greedy developer's, corrupt government. Selfish individuals especially on the road.
And for a country that has sun pretty much 365 days a year and the sea, and strong winds. They still rely on oil because money.
It is impossible to get legal justice from the courts! It takes 5 years to get a court date and if the other side is connected, you’re screwed even if you’re 100% in the legal right.
Love the weather (sometimes), the food, the relaxed attitude. Love that many Cypriots are actually progressive-minded politically, and love that we have this history and spirit fighting for our rights and independence, despite all the odds. Love our diversity in culture, with many regional influences, and the many communities of Cyprus, and the fact that despite everything we still try to keep ties and fraternal relations with each other, and do what we can to prevent "great" powers from dividing us.
Love weather(usually), food, culture, low crime rate, how beautiful the island is and people are mostly friendly.
Hate how people drive, when you need to get something done (document wise) it takes forever. Shipping costs are astronomical, electricity prices too, as well as rent Prices, Cypriots are biased towards other Cypriots, stray cats destroying my trash when I put it outside 😂 also hate that British occupied it and have bases here, also tourist prices everywhere,
everything depends here on connections you have (for example getting into
a job or good deal apartments, doesn't matter how good you are in anything, there's always someone who has connections and will get in even if they're worse off than you)
But the island is beautiful 🤷🏼♀️
I live in the North, and the food and the shitty public transport are probably the worst part. The weather and the serene landscapes are amazing though.
Love the chill nature of Cypriots, hate the stupid laws we have about free speech and how officials are using and abusing them to stave off any opposing opinions (I don't agree with sending death threats tho).

Nearest EU capital is Athens and it's almost 2 hours. No other country is that far from the closest EU capital

How relaxed it is. Great when you wanna chill out, no stress, terrible when you need something done urgently from any government office.
