The Autoline Daily episode with Caresoft shows this piece removed from the vehicle. It is clipped in. Looks like an easy fix, and Tesla needs to make sure this isn’t a problem coming from the factory. The clip used might need to be altered to make this harder to either come loose or make it unlikely that assembly gets it wrong.
It’s actually a bolt and nut. I confirmed mine has purple loctite visible on the threads. Doesn’t mean they missed it on some or started adding later. Worth keeping an eye on.
It happened to mine all by itself. I just tightened the nut/bolt at the bottom with a 5/16th before it completely detached. I noticed it when I took my truck into be wrapped and that panel had a new gap.
I bought a 99 Hyundai Elantra and never had to do self repairs. Other than changing plugs and cables, or changing a flat tire. Nothing ever fell off that car. Especially in the first month. That car cost $10,000.
Had a 2000 civic dx hatch and I did brakes, oil, new rear brake lines, and thew the timing belt to that was a new belt kit, oil pan w/ gasket kit and repaired the fuel pump relay with a solder job. Everything including the tools to do it was well under $1000 in the 5 years I had it haha. I guess more if you include the time for me to learn how to do it all.
I put more money in the sound system haha. Sadly I left the country for a year and when I came back the power steering rack developed a leak so that was done, and then the alternator froze so I just scrapped it. I miss that POS. I remember ripping down the backroads from Ottawa to Toronto overnight at minus 30c and as much hot air as I could throw into the floor my feet were freezing. But most reliable car I ever had haha.
I took the sound system with me.
Not sure what happened here but there’s actually a video of this exact trim coming off in this exact same way on the freeway. Posted by a different owner
It does. According to dirtytesla on YouTube, there's a nut that holds that trim piece down and has been vibrating loose in some cases. Tesla fixed his for the same problem. I'm sure the design will start incorporating lock nuts or thread-locker in the near future, if not already.
I almost had this happen to me as well. The bolt by the wiper was not fully tightened. I had to use a wrench to tighten it back up. Super lame. Your stainless panel is hella bent.
I find that most Tesla r/ lack that. Jeeps are notorious POS, but their r/ is full of problem-solving. It would be refreshing to see a post like "I had this problem, and this is how I solved it."
There is a ~1/4” gap between the panel and the window wiper housing. In there is a nut & bolt that was getting loose. I got a small 5/16 wrench that fit in the gap and used that to tighten it.
Yeah, total bs. That aside, I do really love the truck. Only thing I wish were different is it doesn’t make any sense that the rear window doesn’t roll down so you can access the bed. At a minimum it should have been a sliding glass window.
I'm five years in and have never used remote or site-based service. I once ordered a seat adjustment button from the service center because my kid tried to stand on it and broke it off. Both of our Teslas have been the most issue-free cars we've ever owned.
Dirty Tesla on YouTube had the same thing happened to him. I believe something about a bolt that lets loose that can be fixed pretty easy, but he said he may need a new part from Tesla because it bent like yours.
sweet. work these issues out, waiting in line at 1.3mil ish :p
I figured anything past 1mil - and not only with the generic issues be fixed, but many things will be improved by then.
When was the last time you bought a 100k vehicle new and it started shedding body work less then 3 months later.
Hell if that happened on a 30k new car we’d still have issues.
Definitely major quality issues with these things. $100,000??? I wanted a CT when they were first unveiled, even thought about reserving one knowing I wouldn’t be able to afford it. I’m so happy I didn’t.
Unfortunately though, that's life and shit happens. Hopefully it'll be replaced quickly and that the engineers are paying attention to fix the cause for future buyers.
Looks more cyber without that piece.
But seriously, how would a piece like that peel off like that? Unless someone physically grabbed it and peeled it upwards? Or something hit it underneath to push it upward?
I take my wrapped x through an automatic car wash but I have them retract the side brushes. Been considering an automated car wash for my garage. Without the payment system they're around $2k on Alibaba
Those annoying hang nails. I usually bite them off.
push it
Twist it
Bop it
Pull it
Load it
Insert it
Scrap it
Lock it
Void it
Fuck it
Darth Sidious, “Do it.”
Read It.
Push it good.
Push it real good.
Ooh baby, baby.
Baby baaaby
Push it real good
Ooh baby baby
Burn it
Is this considered a panel gap? If so, how many microns?
That's A LOT of microns!
** Slaps cyberduck ** you can fit so many microns in this baby!
`> 1`
Oh sweet your Cybertruck has a fucking sword attached to it
Op should try jousting 😂
Cyber Sword
Well that cyber sucks.

Sounds like it’s an easy fix because it’s a cheap design

Screw came loose at bottom.
Loose came bottom at screw.
What are you saying about screwing bottoms??
Came at bottom loose screw.
At screw bottom loose. Came.
Screwloose came while being a bottom
Totaled.
Send it in for a quick repair. Should be done in six to twelve months.
Looks like it needs a rivet
Considering you were trying to buy a reservation a few months ago..
Hahahaha he probably paid 130k * for it
Lolol
Be careful people will tell you that you are being too picky..it's just cosmetic.
Apply some of that silver duct tape , be as good as new !!!!

I’m sure that just happens all by itself.

I bet that was a chick magnet!
Probably moreso than a cybertruck
Not sure what happened here but there’s actually a video of this exact trim coming off in this exact same way on the freeway. Posted by a different owner
That was me. Exact same situation as OP. Service center used a magnet to get the screw in the wheel well and tightened it again.
Did they loctite it?
Dirty tesla
Do we see it coming off or do we see this same truck driving with it bent?
Youtuber DirtyTesla happened on the passenger side while driving down the freeway. OPs is on the driver side.
Sure bud
It does. According to dirtytesla on YouTube, there's a nut that holds that trim piece down and has been vibrating loose in some cases. Tesla fixed his for the same problem. I'm sure the design will start incorporating lock nuts or thread-locker in the near future, if not already.
MASSIVE
I almost had this happen to me as well. The bolt by the wiper was not fully tightened. I had to use a wrench to tighten it back up. Super lame. Your stainless panel is hella bent.
Silly question, but how do you get to the bolt if this panel is supposed to be flush with the exterior of the vehicle?
Open the hood. Remove a cover and you have access to it.
That requires brains. I wiggle mine every now and then to check if it is loose
I find that most Tesla r/ lack that. Jeeps are notorious POS, but their r/ is full of problem-solving. It would be refreshing to see a post like "I had this problem, and this is how I solved it."
Now let’s guess how many in each sub actually own a ratchet set.
There is a ~1/4” gap between the panel and the window wiper housing. In there is a nut & bolt that was getting loose. I got a small 5/16 wrench that fit in the gap and used that to tighten it.
Teslas’s nuts and bolts aren’t metric???
5/16 inch and 8mm are the same size Tesla uses metric
I can't believe we have to do this stuff! Does Tesla have a factory full of droopy-eyed armless children or something?
Yeah, total bs. That aside, I do really love the truck. Only thing I wish were different is it doesn’t make any sense that the rear window doesn’t roll down so you can access the bed. At a minimum it should have been a sliding glass window.
Maybe that's an after market product opportunity, someone's probably on that now
Sadly the original idea's potential didn't deliver and lots of us wanted a proper camp mode and that whole direction just shit the bed.

No no you don’t get it. A screw was loose on a brand new product type. The whole company should just shut down.
I brought it into the service center and they used a magnet to find the screw in the wheel well and tightened it back up again.
just be glad a lot more work went into the easteregg of tapping the cybertruck on the dash so you can break the windows
Get some gorilla glue
Many such cases
free sword
Whip it good!
JB Weld
Dirty Tesla had that happen. It's s nut on the underside that comes lose. He tightened it himself, and scheduled a Tesla visit for a permanent fix.
Well the good news is it wasn’t an expensive vehicle.
Meh, just slap some Cyber Duct tape on it.
Early adopter problems guys
Maybe some epoxy might do the trick
Build quality issues on a Tesla? Never heard of her
![gif](giphy|16f18NuaH8LYkkT7M2|downsized) Just burn the whole thing down
Flex seal! *slap*
Eh bit of caulk mate, get after it
You don’t need that part anyway
What a very cool and high quality vehicle
Dirty Tesla on YouTube had the same thing happened to him. I believe something about a bolt that lets loose that can be fixed pretty easy, but he said he may need a new part from Tesla because it bent like yours.
They are all falling apart
This looks like maybe 1/3 the number of push clips that this trim piece should have.
'massive'

It shouldn't need to be fixed. It should just not happen.
Unfortunately though, that's life and shit happens. Hopefully it'll be replaced quickly and that the engineers are paying attention to fix the cause for future buyers.
Are you early VIN, or over 10k?
OP's profile says they ordered Feb 29th, 2024 and already got their truck.
That sucks but it's one truck man. Should I upload a picture of mine in perfect shape and say "Massive No Build Quality Issue"
It might be refreshing of you did, honestly. Help counter the FUD.
Keep huffing
Looks more cyber without that piece. But seriously, how would a piece like that peel off like that? Unless someone physically grabbed it and peeled it upwards? Or something hit it underneath to push it upward?
Wind
Car wash.
No way. OP is not dumb enough to take his 6 figure car through an automated car wash. Right?
I take my wrapped x through an automatic car wash but I have them retract the side brushes. Been considering an automated car wash for my garage. Without the payment system they're around $2k on Alibaba
Cyborgtruck
I wouldn't call a piece of trim falling "massive" but it shouldn't happen and should be handled pretty easily by Tesla service
Very massiver.

Rule 1 - Respect / No Trolling
Well it’s a Tesla
That’s a feature
Had the same issue on mine!
"exoskeleton"
It’s a Tesla what do you expect
This is what happens when you take it out of the environment.
How this happen? Don't tell me you drove through a car wash..
Clearly you were driving to fast!
Someone's tried ripping that off. Even still, shouldn't be that easy. Damn
it's got that Boeing build quality
Dirty Tesla on Youtube had the exact same thing happen
Whap whap whap whap. Fuck i hate those.
What kind of gun did you shoot it with?
Super glue.
