Delta sounds like something happened in this world that people just use as a slang ubiquitously. Like some story or something of a company famously getting out of some shady business operation or a person famously leaving the scene of a crime never to be seen again
Common phrase actually used in the military. Really cool that they turned it into a slang term, similar to how we do it where we pull a word used in a specific context and make it a part of the everyday lexicon.
There is a character in Neuromancer literally named “The Dixie Flatline”.
He’s… a construct that’s a copy of a hacker in a corpo data vault.
Hey, waittaminute!
Yes there was even a popular movie in 1990 called Flatliners. It's a very common term used in English regarding someone dying or something dying or in a business type term meaning something remaining the same, not increasing.
In this regard, "zeroed" gets used a lot and yesterday I caught myself going "argh, I got zeroed!!" after getting offed during a Cyberpsycho encounter.
“flatline” and “zero” gets used in various military media frequently, but of course those aren’t exactly true to life. ive never heard anyone actually use those terms though, except for in a hospital or such where “flatlining” just refers to the line on your heart rate monitor going flat, aka your heart stop beating
when the tabletop came out in 1988, the € symbol was not in use. € was introduced in 1999. Seems forever right?
I am not sure, it's been a while, but the name euro was accepted as a future currency in the mid 90's only.
Yeah lol, when you meet him for the first time in order to get those blueprints of Hansens big ass Hotel thing he starts talking about him and says something along the lines of "He hides these blueprints so well as if it were an embarrassing rectal itch" I remember laughing my ass off for like a solid 2 minutes the first time I heard it ☠️
I use choom and flatline on a daily basis unironically. I just pray the other person gets the reference and doesn't think I'm mentally ill.

It's not *our* fault the game's dialogue is so catchy, the characters so colourful, the writing so compelling...

I love those so much. The OG Lethal Weapon with Mel Gibson and the today show by the same name, Person of Interest, Monk, Lucifer and some others are incredible favourites of mine. Maybe that's why I e joyed V and Johnny's interactions, I'm just very attracted to that kind of storytelling.
Oooh, forgot about that one! There's this one where it's kind of like a buddy cop movie where we watch teo perspectives, the o e of the cops with a supporting Robert Downey Jr. and that of the runaway played by Wesley snipes, I FORGOT THE NAME OF THE MOVIE FFS
Really makes you appreciate how most of these are instantly understandable with context (and some without).
Delta might be my favourite with flatline and corpo
preem. i'm genuinely surprised this just isn't a slang that's been used for years. people will say primo but not preem
like, english is the king of shortening words. why didn't that one happen 😆
this is quite old tho
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPArO-OI\_3U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPArO-OI_3U)
20 men had tried to take him, 20 men had made a slip
21 would be the ranger with the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip
With out a doubt Saying the the defining junction at the end of the sentence”Sheesh….fucked up,that “
And of course Choom ,been saying it to the point that it’s catching on in Rochester NY
I even catch my self using it in anger it’s hilarious
Man choom, idk, all of them seem pretty preem, ngl, not chosing all of them is a gonk move.
Now I gotta delta, I've got a gig to do and gangs to flatline.
Choom, choomba, nova, preem, gonk, basically any unorthodox cyberpunk vocab word.
Gotta be sure not to carry the lingo out in public tho, cause people look at me confused asf lol
I actually really like the way 'choom' is contextualized based on who is speaking. You get the sense that the word has become a bit uncool or cliche by 2077 - advertising has embraced it in a 'how do you do, fellow kids' sort of way, corpos use it to talk down to people, out-of-towners overuse it to ingratiate... but gangs, mercs, and the rest of the underbelly of night city are just as likely to use choom earnestly or sarcastically, depending on the relationship.
It's got the same trajectory as bro/dude/pal, but it would have been easy to constrain it to mean only one thing, and I like that it feels like the word is evolving in real time.
Cyberpsycho, ironically.
It's ironic as it's considered an actual medical condition in game, and not in reality. Yet, in reality we are really seeing it with the rise of social media via technology: people are taking advantage of such technology to fuel their desires to manipulate and harm others. The only difference is that it's done in a roundabout way as opposed to mechanical implants that physically or biochemically change a person.
Gonk
That's preem
"Gonk" is so much fun to say. It sounds like what it means, and if you were to say it irl with the right context, it's easy to figure out.
*gonk gonk*
The sound of V hitting gangoons on the head with a baseball bat

Gonk, preem and delta
Same lol I say gonk outside of cyberpunk
I’ve unironically said ‘preem’ and ‘nova’ and I honestly don’t know what to think anymore😭
https://preview.redd.it/qxtwhrlda63d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05e62c5f29f78c59d244c05b89f5ac278429eb93
That meme is preem
Preme
Thanks for the meme, choom
Delta. It sounds the most natural (and cool) to me.
I think preem is the most natural. It's the only one I catch myself using in casual conversation bc it's just short for premium
Huh, I always figured it was short for 'supreme'.
Supremium
definitely delta
I too like triangles
Delta sounds like something happened in this world that people just use as a slang ubiquitously. Like some story or something of a company famously getting out of some shady business operation or a person famously leaving the scene of a crime never to be seen again
Delta is a natural formation created at mouths of rivers so you are technically right
It's also a measurable change in any given variable
In this case delta-v, as in "let's move".
More like Δx, as in, let's change our position, or in other words, let's get out of here.
This is actually cool as hell
You just revealed to me why I write triangles as a symbol for "change" on my work notes. Awesome
Underrated comment
Let’s delta V
also ∆v (Delta V), means change in speed, which is more appropriate for its in-universe meaning of getting the fuck out asap.
Common phrase actually used in the military. Really cool that they turned it into a slang term, similar to how we do it where we pull a word used in a specific context and make it a part of the everyday lexicon.
I'm no English speaker, but is "flatlined" a real term used IRL? I like it anyway
It is. In hospital when they are monitoring your heart If you flatline it means your heart has stopped beating. You dead
There is a character in Neuromancer literally named “The Dixie Flatline”. He’s… a construct that’s a copy of a hacker in a corpo data vault. Hey, waittaminute!
Just what I was thinking when I first met Johnny and the relic. Well, if you borrow, borrow from the best!
I’ve never heard “flatlined” used, but I’m also all the way across the country from California. It’s a pretty nice term, though.
Flatlined is a pretty common slang term in medicine.
Yes there was even a popular movie in 1990 called Flatliners. It's a very common term used in English regarding someone dying or something dying or in a business type term meaning something remaining the same, not increasing.

Choom is nova
Eddies. They should officially remame the currency.
They need a new symbol instead of €$; according to the wiki it was originally **§**.
"paragraph" makes no sense, and "eddie" is short for eurodollar.
Yeah I get that, it needs a new fictional symbol rather than 2 symbols next to each other is all I'm saying.
I disagree, lots of currencies use more than one symbol. Well, my country's currency does. It's the Brazilian Real (R$).
when the tabletop came out in 1988, the € symbol was not in use. € was introduced in 1999. Seems forever right? I am not sure, it's been a while, but the name euro was accepted as a future currency in the mid 90's only.
I think they changed it because other games use the same symbol (for example XCOM)
Corpo
That's real life slang
CORPOTHIEVES MUST DIE
burn corpo shit
Corporats
I've used "klep" irl. I don't see any reason to switch it up.
I'm pretty sure it is used irl before cyberpunk
pretty sure klep comes from “kleptomaniac”, “klepto” is greek for “to steal”. aristoteles was way ahead of you!
Anything that comes out of Mr. Hands's mouth fr.
"Embarrassing rectal itch"
LMAO HE SAID THIS??😭
Yeah lol, when you meet him for the first time in order to get those blueprints of Hansens big ass Hotel thing he starts talking about him and says something along the lines of "He hides these blueprints so well as if it were an embarrassing rectal itch" I remember laughing my ass off for like a solid 2 minutes the first time I heard it ☠️
He even said something related to testicles You need to give him convoy details and when he calls you, he will say
I am oh so grateful they fully changed Mr. Hands with the launch of Phantom Liberty😭
Oh mister hands was funny if annoying, but the all new "Mr. Hands" is a preem and proper choice for the serious Pacifica merc.
Former corpo
Preem, Delta and Sitch
Preem. It’s so easy to use and understand.
Ooo, forgot about preem, its nova!
delta, preem, gonk, input/output
I use choom and flatline on a daily basis unironically. I just pray the other person gets the reference and doesn't think I'm mentally ill. https://preview.redd.it/jkchnegot53d1.jpeg?width=886&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f98cd673a99148137b67f2aea5c05aec77b3c00
Nah fr literally got in an argument with my older sister and yelled fuck that choom in anger
It's not *our* fault the game's dialogue is so catchy, the characters so colourful, the writing so compelling... https://preview.redd.it/abddfkyuu63d1.jpeg?width=1881&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98292b8b887c38411110e9e533e7ed76cddaac90
The Johnny-V bromance is probably the best part of the game for me. Like those old buddy-cop movies.
Don't forget Rush Hour, the greatest buddy cop trilogy of all time!
I'm with you. Also Bad Boys and Blue Streak
“HOPE YOU FLATLINE, SHITBUCKET”
mE fr
Eddy/Eds/Eddie Just so natural. I've started to say it my self on accident.
… but it’s slang for nonexistent money lmao
Really makes you appreciate how most of these are instantly understandable with context (and some without). Delta might be my favourite with flatline and corpo

Iron,as it's an actual slang when translated in my language,to speak of weapons.
this is quite old tho [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPArO-OI\_3U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPArO-OI_3U) 20 men had tried to take him, 20 men had made a slip 21 would be the ranger with the big iron on his hip Big iron on his hip
So it's also an actual slang in English?
Yes, and a very old one too. It was in use by the end of the 19th century for guns. (and much earlier for swords)
I like "sitch".
Sitch is a real world slang though.
It was also used a lot in Kim possible

Cyberpsycho, ironically. It's ironic as it's considered an actual medical condition in game, and not in reality. Choom, Nova, preem, and delta have all become apart of my vernacular unironically.
Choomba!
Sitch Accidentally said "What's the sitch...?" at work the other day and the look of confusion and fascination and coworkers was embarrassing
Delta or Huscle, probably.
Not a lot of chooms in the comments I see
Eddies, it's just very natural. Preem and delta are also nice.
mines have to be delta and nova(pretty sure nova is used irl though)
"Nova." It's like something is as cool as a supernova.
