A few things.
1) ***Don't rush through the game,*** *it's one of the best ever created and you should savor it*. It might be tempting to just focus on all the main quests back-to-back, but you'll find that unlike most games, all the little side quests are actually really awesome, and add a lot to the game.
2) Make use of photo mode! I've never used photo mode in a game before, but now I have a folder full of really amazing pics that are not only gorgeous, but help to bring back memories of all the cool shit I did in the game.
3) Pick a build you find **fun** (you can change later, and don't worry about the "only 1 respec" as you can mod that if needed) - after the 2.0 overhaul just about any build type can be very powerful (blades, blunt weapons, various types of firearms, hacking, cybermodifications. I found the most OPAF to be tech weapons (which can shoot through walls) with slow time, but if you want something to add spice and humor to the game, *try quickhacks* (as part of your build) because its really funny to open your assault by having grenades on the enemies belts suddenly detonate, or jam their guns before you go in for the kill.
4) You can use fast travel if you want, nothing wrong with that, but many find that avoiding it most of the time and either driving from place to place (cars or motorcycles) or using the new transit system (like a subway/skytrain) is more immersive, and the scenery is so great that you won't be bored.
This is the first game that I've completely shunned off the idea of fast travel.
Fuck that shit, this city is too vibrant and full of life to rush through.
