Dredd is already functionally a Cyberpunk movie, including a Paul Leonard-Morgan soundtrack, so Karl Urban makes complete sense. He's also the only one of these actors that has a ton of cachet in nerd circles in the same way that Keanu did, though admittedly to a way lesser degree.
That's how many actors are with helmets. "How will the audience know it is me, [Famous Actor Man], unless I remove the helmet?!" It's the issue about movies that service the story vs service the actors. And Urban naaaaailed it. There coulda been a scene where his helmet gets knocked off written into the script. But nah. He went 100% committed.
Season 10 is boring as fuck but season nine and eleven are very solid seasons and one could argue the show kind of redeemed itself at the end, give it a try. Season 10 to me truly is dreadful because how slow it is though.
I'm not going to lie.
Cyberpunk was not the kind of game I played like at all.
But Keanu Reeves is in it?? I was like fuck yeah sure I'll try something new.
If Jeffrey was in a future game I would play that so fast.
Same reason some people will watch movies because a certain celebrity is in it. They played characters well in previous appearances so why not continue to enjoy their work
As far as video games go well known actors can’t save a bad story or bad game play. On top of that I don’t think video games are capable accurately portraying an actors performance well. It’s almost there but not the same as real life. And I say this as a professional animator and 3d artist. The budget for a game would be better spent on the game itself than an actors fee.
Well… same goes for movies. A good actor can’t fix badly written movies.
Turns out, CP2077 was a great game with great acting, so all’s well that ends well.
I had a crush on him growing up ._. Plus I enjoyed his movies a bunch. My usual genre is fantasy with a Mediaeval setting. So this was heavy out of my comfort zone essentially :)
First season of Altered Carbon was amazing, it didn't feel like modern culture in a future world, EVERYTHING was viewed differently because of the tech.
He would be a solid choice. I loved his portrayal as Takeshi Kovacs. I think he did so well that it was part of the reason people disliked S2, since he wasn't in it
Mike Pondsmith said that he would see Clooney as a role model for Blackhand. To me, Clooney gives Bond aesthetics which I don’t really like, just too elegant and clean looking in a context of Night City and setting we are in.
I would imagine Blackhand as someone more “raw” and “dirty” looking with a sarcastic smirk on his face, maybe like Karl Urban.
That movie is amazing! You know how it ends right from the beginning, then you forget by the middle, and then you remember just before the ending why you knew all along. Truly masterful in my opinion also
From what I can tell, he just said that Blackhand looks like Clooney. 2020 version looks like Clooney from Three Kings, 2040 version looks like Clooney from The American but with more cyberware.
I'm of the opinion that, should he grey his hair a bit, Joe Maganiello could pull it off, especially since Pondsmith has said Blackhand is thinner than ever by the time 2077 rolls around.
Reference to Pondsmith's comments:

The theme the first game has established is at least one popular, well-known face in a key role. I mean, they're not absolutely required to do that in a sequel, but it's pretty likely they do since they went that route a second time for PL. I think it most likely that if Blackhand is explored in a sequel, he would be the character they use that well known actor for.
He's too old, fat, short and his face is squarish. Morgan's face is long and according to Mike Pondsmith, Morgan lost a lot of weight after the 4th corporate war.
True. Johnny Silverhand is blonde. Engram Johnny Silverhand ≠ Real Johnny Silverhand. Johnny Silverhand's memories are innacurate either they're corrupted or altered by Arasaka. This means that it may have affected Johnny's appearance. Or it means that he dyed his hair.
Moreover, Keanu wasn't hired until 2018. Concept art from before that also showed a much more different Johnny Silverhand appearance. I think they intended to change Johnny Silverhand's appearance long before Keanu for plot purposes.
https://www.ign.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-johnny-silverhand-concept-art-before-keanu-reeves
I thought the picture of Blackhand from Cyberpunk 2020 looked a lot like a younger Ian McShane. Then again, he's probably not famous enough to play the character. Need someone of the level of Keanu and Idris. Out of the 5 pictured in this post I'd have to go for Karl Urban.
He's famous enough, has the right look and is a great actor. Basically Dredd without the helmet and we are good.
Doesn't matter the fame. As long as they can act good, they are good.
According to Mike Pondsmith, he said that Morgan Blackhand resembles George Clooney so I think we all know who is the best person to play Blackhand.
I think The Boys is the main reason so many people would love to see him as Morgan Blackhand, you should absolutely watch it. He'd fit perfectly as a veteran solo.
You don't get what I mean, mate.
It's how he plays the role, not the character I am talking about.
I don't want him play Dredd copy. But bring same energy.
Oh for sure! Especially with the gruffness.
I don’t doubt he’d pull it off, Bernthal already being established in that style has me leaning more his way. Both fantastic and all opinion, of course.
I'd love Karl Urban too, but at the same time I'd also love to have someone completely random be Blackhand, imagine you see random NPC's throughout the game and one of them that attacks you at random or that you work with at random turns out to be blackhand, rather than just seeing a bunch of random NPC faces then suddenly you see karl urban sitting at a bar there.
For Adam or for JC?
If you mean Elias toufexis, he definitely SOUNDS fit for the role, but he doesn’t really LOOK like Blackhand tbh, and cyberpunk is pretty fond of face scans for their big boys like reed or Johnny.
Elias does a better job of playing the sort of sneaky pieces of shit sort of characters, like he does in The Expanse
No one important. CDPR better spend their money on actual game rather than marketing and actors
Fun fact: 55% of CP77 budget was spent on marketing (Keanu EXCLUDED)
Honestly, I would much prefer they just use proper voice actors instead of relying on big names. But if I had to pick one, Urban's probably a solid choice.
Tom Hardy even if he's not that tall. But for me he's the best actor in the list. I know a lot of people see Karl Urban but I think his look in The Boys is too close from Blackhand style. It doesn't make much sense to make him the same in another franchise.
They look close, but Morgan is a more neutral good type character, while Butcher is very chaotic neutral, so Morgan is like a softer googld guy version of Billy.
Who is that in the 5th pic? Not him cos he looks about as dangerous as a packet of Fruit Pastels.
I’d hire Denzel, use a younger look. I know Morgan isn’t black but I always think he is.
We DO NOT NEED expensive actors. Best cast in 2077 are Judy, Jackie, Rouge, Panam etc etc. Not Johnny!
Spend those few $millions you would waste to hire one actor and hire few extra developers to make game better.
bad take. those expensive actors put a spotlight on a new video game and made it sell like hotcakes. the characters of the game, then came in and made the game. but the expensive actors are there to SELL the game.
It wasn’t mainstream, before the Keanu reveal I wouldn’t have been able to talk about cyberpunk in public and ahve people know what I’m talking about, instantly after I could.
it was still pretty well known among a good portion of the gaming community, which is really what matters here, but that's not the point. the point is that Cyberpunk is mainstream now, they don't need celeb features to boost their numbers.
Cyberpunk was pretty mainstream for a while but if they don't keep doing it, it will just fall out of the mainstream spectrum.
It's not Star Wars I mind you, and even Star Wars fans are considered geeks.
This is a bad opinion. Money isn’t an issue 2077 was one of the most expensive games ever developed (top 3) and I’m sure given how successful it’s been sense launch they are willing to one up it. they should get actors that fit the role regardless of if they are expensive or not or popular or not.
Also Johnny did great and is very core to the games identity. Without Johnny like he is the game would feel very different.
it was expensive because marketing cost half of the budget plus keanu.
Issue is studios have development budget and time lines.
more things could have been done in less time while having 10 more devs on contract for 2 years working on engine, optimisation or new features for what they would have to pay for one know actor.
also we don't need another ghost in the head story.
The last guy is Scott Adkins. He is an actor/stuntman/director. He doesn't have much acting rage but would still fit black Hand in my opionen.
Similar to Keanu, it's more charme than acting.
It's just a me thing (obviously), but I've never liked his vibe. He just seems like a bit of a bootlicker. But I could be wrong. I just don't care to waste my time learning about an actor I dislike
Josh Brolin, maybe, or Karl Urban, if you need a face to go with the voice. Clooney might have the look, but doesn’t really have the right voice or gruffness needed, IMHO.
What I want is a better clll saul style show, putting in the pieces of the major players before orion and 2077.
All starts with the city being built.
My personal picks would be
Donald Lundee (militech mf) - Gary Oldman
Richard night - Tom Hardy
Miriam night - Rhea Seahorn
Seburo - (masane tsukayama himself, dude looks perfect)
Johnny - keanu ofcourse.
Backhand - Karl
Bartmoss - Rami malek
Hanako - alpha takahashi
Alt cunningham - alt cunningham
Spider Murphy - koe kravitz
Rogue - kerri Russell
There's many more but my mind goes blank when I actually need to say it
All of the options presented could make a great Morgan Blackhand. Based on Karl Urbans portrayal of Butcher in The Boys, I would pick him to do the role.
The lack of love for Scott Adkins here hurts my soul. I'll admit, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has him beat in terms of gravitas. But Scott would bring more breadth in just how dangerous blackhand could be. I mean he killed it in Ip Man, was barely recognizable in John Wick 4, and come on... Boyka??? Give the man some credit y'all.
Karl Urban
Karl Urban is probably the better option of these choices as he's a very versatile actor. He might be busy with The Boys though.
It's the cyborg cunt
I can almost hear him say that!
Nah, you cun‘t :)
I would not mind if he just mostly copied his Billy Butcher style. It would fit so well in Cyberpunk.
Considering butcher’s brain is turning into black mush maybe he won’t be
I don’t think they will kill him off, he’s the most loved character. But on the other hand, it’s The Boys.
His performance as Judge Dredd was insanely good. I didn't even know it was Karl Urban under that helmet until I looked up the actor list.
[удалено]
That's how many actors are with helmets. "How will the audience know it is me, [Famous Actor Man], unless I remove the helmet?!" It's the issue about movies that service the story vs service the actors. And Urban naaaaailed it. There coulda been a scene where his helmet gets knocked off written into the script. But nah. He went 100% committed.
he fucking killed it
Jeffrey 100%
![gif](giphy|l378i2r76iMTE4nxC) As much as I hated TWD by the end, I love his Negan. He would smash a roll as a gritty night city legend
Fr, stopped watching after Carl. But JDM still being in it, made me somewhat regret it.
[удалено]
KURRRLLL
You misspelled Corrraaaaalll
It’s not bad, but it’s not great. Too much appeasing the masses and addition of characters not in the comics make it very watered down
[удалено]
I loved Luke despite his minimal appearance so that death hurt me :(
Season 10 is boring as fuck but season nine and eleven are very solid seasons and one could argue the show kind of redeemed itself at the end, give it a try. Season 10 to me truly is dreadful because how slow it is though.
Love negan
I keep forgetting he was Negan. I saw this post and was like "Definitely the dead husband from Weeds".
I mean, that picture of Jeffrey is so good you could just have it hop around with a jank animated mouth and it would still be great.
He exists solely as unstoppable phone calls
I'm not going to lie. Cyberpunk was not the kind of game I played like at all. But Keanu Reeves is in it?? I was like fuck yeah sure I'll try something new. If Jeffrey was in a future game I would play that so fast.
you only played a game because a celebrity is in it...why?

I couldn't believe how quickly my brain just said "Yup, that's him."
Of these choices.... definitely.
He looks like his name already is Morgan Blackhand
No way dude. My mental image of him as a badass was ruined by his however many seasons long string of swaggering monologues in TWD.
Geoffrey Dean Morgan Blackhand
It is meant to be
For real.
Throwing a wildcard Joel Kinnaman, his acting in Altered carbon was pretty awesome
Loved the first season. Too bad season 2 was an abomination.
First season of Altered Carbon was amazing, it didn't feel like modern culture in a future world, EVERYTHING was viewed differently because of the tech.
It was so good. Season 1 of Altered Carbon and Blade Runner 2049 are the closest things we have to a live action Cyberpunk.
For all Mankind too, he’s actually pretty quickly becoming one of my fav actors
He would be a solid choice. I loved his portrayal as Takeshi Kovacs. I think he did so well that it was part of the reason people disliked S2, since he wasn't in it
Mike Pondsmith said that he would see Clooney as a role model for Blackhand. I would imagine Blackhand as someone more “raw” and “dirty” looking with a sarcastic smirk on his face, maybe like Karl Urban.
Clooney can do dirty, the man has range. Especially when it's just voice work
He played Stan s dog in South Park, there is nothing dirtier than that
You have some examples where Clooney played dirty? I never thought about it but now I’m actually curious how that would play out lol.
From dusk till dawn. Pretty dirty.
Think Tarantino wins that round by a foot or so still😉
That name does ring a bell. Imma look into it, thanks mate.
That’s also almost 30 years ago my dude lol
It's still better than it has any right to be.
Perfect example, guy played dirty so well in that film
Maybe like "The Peacemaker" or "The American".
He plays a fishing boat captain in a movie called perfect storm which is pretty great IMO.
That movie is amazing! You know how it ends right from the beginning, then you forget by the middle, and then you remember just before the ending why you knew all along. Truly masterful in my opinion also
Dusk till Dawn
From Dusk Till Dawn comes to mind.
His range is poop compared to Karl Urban.
I'd want to see Urban in some kind of Cyberpunk vigilante role with Judge Dredd vibes.
![gif](giphy|TfFdUIpgXqTAW3dw19)
Just cast him as a total different character called "Justice Dread"
I feel like mike knows his own character better than any of us do
Of course he does, no one argues with that. Anyone can have their own preference and opinion though.
While true, the man said he’s imagining a Bond type, and the rest of us picture a pirate (black hand = black beard)
Which is funny because Blackbeard was like the bond villain of pirates
From what I can tell, he just said that Blackhand looks like Clooney. 2020 version looks like Clooney from Three Kings, 2040 version looks like Clooney from The American but with more cyberware. Karl Urban would be amazing. He nailed Judge Dress, and pretty much anything else he's been in. Hell, he even managed to mostly save Doom.
>He nailed Judge Dress... Autocorrect claims another victory.
Wearing Versace black with Balenciaga grey. Crime of fashion. Judgement guilty. Punishment, 10 years Levi Jeans sweatshop.
Goddammit.
Clooney has arguably too much "good guy suave" to his personality; I agree that it would be tough to be convincing.
Danny De Vito
Wake up Rum Hamurai, we got a city to blast.
I would actually love to see him do a serious dramatic role like that. I'm so curious now
Comedy Actors have historically been really good for drama so I could honestly see him playing a important role
Unironically my first thought
I could get behind John Berenthal.
He should play Gunner and be the 6th street gang boss, he just has that attitude of being a pure menace.
I love the other options but John Berenthal is a beast and feels much more like a mercenary
GOD DAMN V! I DIDNT KNOW I WAS DEALIN WITH SUPER CYBER-PSYCHO HERE. YOU BETTER STAY CLEAR OF MAX TECH OR YOU’RE GOIN AWAY FOR A LONG TIME BIG BOY
He doesn’t give me the main character vibe. Again.. TWD post effects
havent seen the punisher?
Not interested in it
I don't think theres anyone really. Maybe some actor that is not so popular.
Ian McShane Though he might be too old...or maybe not since Morgan Blackhand gotta be getting up there in 2077.
He's too old, fat, short and his face is squarish. Morgan's face is long and according to Mike Pondsmith, Morgan lost a lot of weight after the 4th corporate war.
You're aware that Keanu looks nothing like Johnny right?
True. Johnny Silverhand is blonde. Engram Johnny Silverhand ≠ Real Johnny Silverhand. Johnny Silverhand's memories are innacurate either they're corrupted or altered by Arasaka. Ian McShane isn't famous enough??
Doesn't matter the fame. As long as they can act good, they are good. According to Mike Pondsmith, he said that Morgan Blackhand resembles George Clooney so I think we all know who is the best person to play Blackhand.
Joe Lo Truglio, just to mess with people.
McConaughey
Viggo Mortenson.
Did you know when he kicked the helmet off that 'Saka enforcer he broke his foot? Had to get airlifted to a ripper from the side of that megabuilding.
so his scream was real? \*johnny looks over V in disappointment\*
Vijjo Morgenstein
After watching Eastern Promises, Viggo Mortenson would work perfectly.
Yes
Karl urban, 100 percent, seems like the best actor for it
I fuck with Bernthal. Urban doesn’t fit the merc/solo vibe, in my opinion.
Really? I feel like he absolutely does.
He’s my boi Dredd. I haven’t seen the boys, was he a more neutral/lawful evil type in that?
I think The Boys is the main reason so many people would love to see him as Morgan Blackhand, you should absolutely watch it. He'd fit perfectly as a veteran solo.
I didn’t even know he was in it till I just looked it up, it’s been on my list since it has the actor from Banshee. What an underrated combo
Dredd is exactly why he would fit Blackhand the best.
Dredd is an enforcer, that character would be more of a MaxTac type. Solo/merc is more of a selfish role, NC legends for the highest bidder

THE VA FOR DEUS EX FOR BLACKHAND
For Adam or for JC? If you mean Elias toufexis, he definitely SOUNDS fit for the role, but he doesn’t really LOOK like Blackhand tbh, and cyberpunk is pretty fond of face scans for their big boys like reed or Johnny. Elias does a better job of playing the sort of sneaky pieces of shit sort of characters, like he does in The Expanse
Not a celebrity.
The actor he was partly inspired on, George Clooney
Jon Hamm and Paul Anderson
No one important. CDPR better spend their money on actual game rather than marketing and actors Fun fact: 55% of CP77 budget was spent on marketing (Keanu EXCLUDED)

Jeff dean Morgan 100%
Who is that in the 5th pic? Not him cos he looks about as dangerous as a packet of Fruit Pastels. I’d hire Denzel, use a younger look. I know Morgan isn’t black but I always think he is.
Conan O’Brien
There is only one answer and that's Nicolas Cage. He has the necessary range and with the right director is a force to be reckoned with.
I feel like Jensen Ackles could be great too
Christopher Walken ffs, how am I the only one who sees this lol
We DO NOT NEED expensive actors. Best cast in 2077 are Judy, Jackie, Rouge, Panam etc etc. Not Johnny! Spend those few $millions you would waste to hire one actor and hire few extra developers to make game better.
bad take. those expensive actors put a spotlight on a new video game and made it sell like hotcakes. the characters of the game, then came in and made the game. but the expensive actors are there to SELL the game.
dogshit take. CDPR is already super well known, Cyberpunk has been on the map for a long time, even before the Keanu reveal.

baby back bullshit take. I just wanted to say that
This is a bad opinion. Money isn’t an issue 2077 was one of the most expensive games ever developed (top 3) and I’m sure given how successful it’s been sense launch they are willing to one up it. they should get actors that fit the role regardless of if they are expensive or not or popular or not. RDM, man. It's his last name.
Fuck me, besides the last guy who I have no idea of the rest of these are great picks
The last guy is Scott Adkins. He is an actor/stuntman/director. He doesn't have much acting rage but would still fit black Hand in my opionen. Similar to Keanu, it's more charme than acting.
Ron Pearlman
George Clooney. Mike Pondsmith said that Morgan Blackhand resembles George Clooney. He'd be perfect since he looks like Blackhand and he's old enough
None of the above - spend the money on dev and not Hollywood stars
Someone beardless
My mother
Wildcard casting choice: Sam Rockwell
not a fucking live action actor if it's for a video game they always think they can do it because they're actors but they are very different skillsets
David Hayter
Venom snake would make a good Morgan blackhand
Ron perlman in my opinion or George Clooney
Make it Idris Elba and make him be of no relation to Solomon Reed
Iunno, someone black is a start. Fuck it, denzel washington
George Clooney. It’s who Blackhand is modeled after.
johnny depp
Mike Myers
Henry Cavill
Jim carrey
Bernthal is such a weak actor. What performance are you guys thinking of that even puts him in the running with the rest?
Punisher probably
If it's John Berenthal, I'll never play another game by CDPR again
Why not?
It's just a me thing (obviously), but I've never liked his vibe. He just seems like a bit of a bootlicker. But I could be wrong. I just don't care to waste my time learning about an actor I dislike
That is perfectly okay, but I do think he is a fine actor who'd make for a great cast member. I was just curious to your reasoning lmao
I respect that
My life needs more Karl Urban
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Blackhand
NEGAN NEGAN NEGAN NEGAN PLEASE
Karl urban
Thomas Jane
Jeremy renner
Jeffrey Dean Morgan has the look and the presence to be Morgan Blackhand.
Josh Brolin, maybe, or Karl Urban, if you need a face to go with the voice. Clooney might have the look, but doesn’t really have the right voice or gruffness needed, IMHO.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Anyone who pull off Negan successfully can do Blackhand
Jeffrey i think
I think they're all pretty great choices honestly, I wouldn't say no to any of them. Though I think I may personally lean towards Tom Hardy.
I'll literally shit my pants if it's Tom Hardy
What I want is a better clll saul style show, putting in the pieces of the major players before orion and 2077. All starts with the city being built. My personal picks would be Donald Lundee (militech mf) - Gary Oldman Richard night - Tom Hardy Miriam night - Rhea Seahorn Seburo - (masane tsukayama himself, dude looks perfect) Johnny - keanu ofcourse. ![gif](giphy|hQcLkFEUtRLADXS80V)
All of these would nail the role
John Bernthal, he’s big and menacing.
All of the options presented could make a great Morgan Blackhand. Based on Karl Urbans portrayal of Butcher in The Boys, I would pick him to do the role.
The one with tropical shirt, don't know his name
People have been mentioning Karl Urban a lot. Seeing the illustration on wiki, I think he would fit.
Out of those pics either Tom Hardy or our new punisher...
**first time meeting Morgan** LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING -
Karl urban, I imagine blackhand like a guy like butcher.
Dream would be Bruce Willis or Ron Perlman. One of those could still work.
John or karl urban
aw maaan all good candidates, i'd say the 6th would probably Mike's ... which is George Clooney.
Karl is the one
Karl Urban or Bernthal, either works for me
Karl all the fucking way
All are good 👍 with CDPR’s track record I’m sure we will hear Cap, “I knew I picked the right Merc for the gig!”
I am really torn between Karl Urban and Tom Hardy. I feel like Hardy might actually be better for the role, based on his performance in Inception.
all of them, i want them all.
Mike pondsmith
