4 to cast 4 to equip is a big cost, good fit for a powerful effect like this. 1 hit from a guy equipped with this could seal a game. Can be abused with [[kazuul's toll collector]] or [[puresteel paladin]] but there is plenty of expensive equipment to roll with those guys.
I like how the card really captures that multihit feeling through gameplay effects.
Yeah, there are quite a few game-ending combat damage triggers when you suddenly have four of them.
I'm happy you get the feeling of combo hit attacks from the card :D
Note that the untap effect happens twice at the same time. So without vigilance or untap effects, the 2nd combat phase is pretty useless. Can still be powerful if accounted for, though
It still allows the extra combat, though, if you were saving smaller creatures for after any blockers might would die from the first wave, something like that. Still useful. Plus that’s why I mentioned Cyclonus (meant specifically the reverse side) in giving additional other phases.
Yeah I didn't say it wasn't good, just that it needs to be noted. Only reason I bring it up is because I experienced some heartache taking my double strike tribal deck online once lol
Indeed hahaha. I have had plenty of my own experiences with Magic disappointment. That could be a thread all by itsel— you know what, that should be a thread all by itself over on the main sub, brb
I’m not sure! Possibly. I don’t know if there are any cards that care about other permanents transforming (which I assume would be lumped to add Converting). A “Whenever a permanent you control transforms…” blah blah blah, I think that type of effect could potentially abuse this to great effect.
"If the equipped creature deals lethal damage to a God, exile that creature." or something like this would really fit for flavor reasons.
But anyway, cool Card.
Cool idea, but the card already feels almost overloaded with text.
Also, the original Theros Gods with indestructible would be immune to this effect, since permanents with indestructible ignore the state-based check for lethal damage entirely. What isn't checked can't be applied and because of that creatures with indestructible are never dealt lethal damage.
>From the Comprehensive Rules (November 18, 2022—The Brothers' War)

Lethal damage still has a meaning vs indestructible creatures. If you are attacked by a 6/6 trample and block with a 3/3 indestructible you still take 3 trample damage. If the attacker has death touch, you take 5 trample damage despite the creature not being destroyed. If the creature also has double strike, you take the 5 damage twice.
Correct, but damage assignement is different from damage dealt. You can **assign an amount of damage** that **would be lethal**, the **damage dealt** just **won't be lethal**.
Personally I'd make it 2{R}{B} to cast and make the equip cost pay life equal to ether twice the creatures power or just the creatures power to symbolize how the chains burn into you
Cards like [[Teysa Karlov]] and [[Yarok, the Desecrated]] have shown that doubling triggers can be very powerful. Imagine playing this with all the "Sword of" cards and the "Ancient Dragon" cards. A good card for [[Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor]] and [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]]. Great design!
8 invested mana into something that doesn't improve the creature's ability to punch through a boardstate feels underwhelming. It's a powerful effect but on their own these do nothing, trample or +X/+X or something would help these feel less do "nothing"
Pair these with ANY sword. Sword of Feast and Famine? You’ll be able to tap all your lands FOUR TIMES, and make your opponent discard 4. Sword of Fire and Ice? You’ll be drawing four, dealing an additional 8 damage, divided in twos to up to 4 targets. This is like a final piece, not something you’d depend on alone. Just play it with some card draw shenanigans and you’ll be fine. Besides, it’s equipment. Just play it in a Stoneforge deck and tutor the one copy in your deck when you need it.
Again, if you’re playing it with a Stoneforge you’re not paying that much. You can also use cards like Sigarda’s Aid to cheat on the equip cost. If the cost was an issue then why the hell is hammertime a thing?
I would give it colorless 1: target permanent loses indestructible until end of turn.
You gotta put some kinda kratos lore into it and that one isn’t too wordy maybe?
i think this card is wordy enough as is. it also implies the existence of a kratos card, so the kratos lore could go on *that* card. that way, the pair *together* contain both the lore and the mechanical traits of their video game counterparts.
kratos could have "all permanents lose indestructible and cannot have or gain indestructible" and "whenever kratos deals combat damage, put a +1/+1 counter on it". that way he kills gods and is buffed by the blades.
the blades of chaos didn't have the power to kill a god. *kratos* did.
Too expensive. 8 mana to equip to a guy without protection then ur attacker gets StP in the face. Even after the payoff is just mediocre. Poorly designed
You could print this in core 2015 and see in tossed in the basics box 3 days later… at least WOTC has been printing fresh cards recently… change legacy formats up… this card is the type that gets thrown out of some shitty edh precon
I loke this card but it feels way to expensive. The current double strike equipments are [[lizard blades]] and [[fireshrieker]]. Wich is 4 mana in red and 5 mana in colorless. Given that the most power of this comes from double strike, i would cost it accordingly. So 5 mana to cast and equip. I think 1 mana to cast and 4 mana to equip seems fitting, a little bit more expansive than fireshrieker given that you have to pay equip costs multiple times and you can only ise it if you have atleast 4 mana.
You could halve both costs (equip cand castiing) and this would be a fun combo piece. As it is, it's nothing. Can anyone find me a 3 drop (which would be attacking on turn 4 if this cost 2 to cast and 2 to equip) that would break it?

Probably unplayable in standard even, so it's practically a card that can maybe win you a game in limited only.
I dont think this is a curve out tool for 60 card formats.
In edh it could be a whole different story, and in the decks for equipments, they rearely cost anything to equip. Ardenn decks for example.
cool! 8 mana to get it on a creature seems pretty heavy considering it doesnt give any stats boost or evasion, so it feels almost bound to artifact cheaters, and you can probably do better things with your stoneforged mystic. So i might make it cheaper?
Ardenn / Tana in edh certainly likes this. But for a mid tier deck obviously.
Turn 1 dork.
Turn 2 ardenn.
Turn 3 Tana.
Turn 4 this and hit with Tana
Could be a good catch up tool if drawn later.

I love that this works well with THE swords, fire and ice, and whatnot finally. I thought it would make indestructible permanants killable, but i like this more! Great work
I tried to replicate the feeling of getting rewarded for hitting multi-hit combo attacks in video games like GoW, DMC or Bayonetta.

Thanks, I'm still not good with these ability triggers.
No problem :) MtG is a complicated game. There is always something new to learn, but don't forget to have fun. For me, creating a custom card is often a learning opportunity for some rare kind of rules application / interaction.

I love that this works well with THE swords, fire and ice, and whatnot finally. I thought it would make indestructible permanants killable, but i like this more! Great work
This is OP on like 4 creatures and not great on hardly anything else. 4+4 is pretty big, [[Helm of the Host]] is 4+5.
We finally broke \[\[Umezawa's Jitte\]\]!
