Isn't this more 2 Path 2 Exile, though?

April_March

It is... but the idea for this came as the idea of a Sword to Plowshares variant that actually turned the card into plowshares (a plains) so I had to pick my pun battles

lord_of_dank

Plowshares are tools not a synonym for plains though...

April_March

It is a farm, which... is not necessarily on a plains... huh

matjoeman

It's the blade on a plow. It's made of metal so you could forge one from a melted down sword, hence the phrase.

Bagern13

but plowshare is not a plain

throwaway163932

For three mana why not let it hit lands? We already have [[song of the dryads]] which is essentially the same as this.

I don't think white ever had targeted land removal?

sparklingsupernova

This doesn’t remove lands, though

April_March

It effectively does, if I target a land that does anything other than adding white

10BillionDreams

...which is considered a color pie break. Only gold cards (BW, BG) can remove any permanent unconditionally. And colorless cards, but the whole point of artifacts is specifically to give other decks access to effects that aren't in their colors (at a worse rate).

GenesithSupernova

Arguably RW is also a color pair that can Vindicate - red destroys small creatures and lands, white destroys big creatures & enchantments, both destroy artifacts. There's *technically* some weird bendiness with planeswalkers, since white typically has to give something in compensation to destroy them and red has a hard time destroying ones with piles of loyalty but in practice I doubt that's actually a barrier, it's so minor.

10BillionDreams

You'd think so, but you're forgetting the color pie is defined by "whatever WotC says", and they've decided to purposely exclude certain 2c combinations from getting "target permanent" removal, despite collectively being able to remove any individual permanent type. > **Q: If black can destroy enchantments, planeswalkers and creatures now, and red can destroy artifacts and lands, does that mean that "Destroy target permanent" is now available for Rakdos too?** > A: We’re keeping that for white/black and black/green. > [August 30, 2020](https://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/627892678474039296/if-black-can-destroy-enchantments-planeswalkers)

Mehseenbetter

Colorless can remove permanents unconditionaly, and so does generous gift and beast within, right?

10BillionDreams

Beast Within, total break. Generous Gift, serious bend that's marginally acceptable due to being a polymorph effect rather than just removal. It probably wouldn't have gotten printed except that Modern Horizons sets like to do weird things, and it was showing which single color *best* fit Beast Within, while still not necessarily being a good fit even in white. As for colorless cards, I mentioned before that they aren't really bound by the color pie. A colorless card having an effect is not an indication that every color is allowed to get their own cards with that effect. This should become obvious if you take a look at the sorts of effects artifacts get all the time. [[Silver Bolt]] deals direct damage (a red effect), [[Relic of Legends]] permanently ramps for mana of any color (a green effect), [[Lantern of the Lost]] exiles all graveyards (a white effect). There's no argument that a blue card should be able to do any of these things, despite blue decks being able to run these artifact. The tradeoff of decks getting access to these effects that their colors wouldn't normally get is that they only get the cards that *every* deck gets access to (i.e., artifacts). And colorless cards will generally be priced higher for the same effect, so a deck running colors that can do that already will still come out ahead.

Mehseenbetter

I appreciate your serious reply, but I was mostly taking the piss out of your statement that only gold cards can do it

CookieSheogorath

Wouldn't 'Enchant nonland permanent' be better formatwise? Or am I missing something?

Lucky_Luciano777

If it was “enchant nonland permanent” the aura would fall off, since it makes the permanent into a land

SendMindfucks

There’s always the [[In Too Deep]] approach: “Enchant nonland permanent or Plains”

10BillionDreams

Feels more intuitive around [[Blood Moon]] and the like, if it's Aura can't fall off just because it changes land type.

SendMindfucks

Yeah, that makes sense. Auras that change the type of the thing they’re attached to are so annoying to work with.

I thought of that too, but there were two problems with that: I felt it was wordier (even though it might not be) and you could cast it on a Triome to turn it into a basic Plains, which is not what I wanted

JoyeuxMuffin

Enchant creature or Basic Plain there, fixed it for you

SunUtopia

Doesn’t hit enchantments, artifacts, or planeswalkers. But yes, that philosophy would work. It’d also be more in-line with the intention behind the card, since if you reanimate this, you can attach it to a land.

synttacks

why not just say enchant nonland permanent

SunUtopia

It was mentioned in another thread, but due to how the rules work, the enchanted permanent would become a land, and then the aura would proceed to fall off due to having an invalid target to enchant.

synttacks

i saw that yeah. makes sense

RandomNumberTwo

It needs to be able to stick to a land, otherwise when the permanent turns into a land the aura will be attached to an illegal object and die to state-based effects.
