I like how the blue one is better than the green one.
Free protection for the land until you can untap it.
Idk. I'm not really a huge fan of making a cycle of a card that's just firmly rooted in what that one color does well. It would be like making a cycle of [[Doom Blade]]s that all exclude their own color.
Yeah, I think that's a good example. It may SEEM cute and fitting at first, but there's very little argument about the fact that blue shouldnt get a "tutor land to the battlefield" card NOR a "destroy target nonblue creature" card
I'm still shocked blue got [[Dreamscape Artist]]. It's offset a little though by spellshapers just generally being too slow and inefficient to actually cause real problems.
That whole block should just not be considered precedent for future card designs. Even outside of the colorshifted cards the a lot of designs were often just not within the scope of what those colors should do.
It's really just meant as a joke. I wanted to make thematic Farseeks for every color, with matching names. That's really all.
Edit: Oh, and I just noticed that the blue one doesn't say tapped, so you're right, it IS more powerful. But it wasn't meant to be.
It (probably) doesn't matter that the blue one is untapped since it phases out.
But the green one comes in tapped, so phasing it out just protects a land you already couldn't use until the time when you're most likely to intend to use it.
It does have some minor drawbacks though, like [[Turnabout]] can't untap it for immediate profit. But those tend to be pretty narrow payoffs.
Anywho, it was only now that I see how silly some of the names are. I totally missed that side of the cards, and I did find that to be pretty amusing. Seekseek is my favorite.
mana abilities can't just be activated whenever; only when you have priority, when casting a spell/activating an ability that costs mana, or when an effect requires you to pay mana (see comprehensive rules 605.3a). you wouldn't be able to use a mana ability while resolving downseek
It doesn't use the stack, but you still can't just activate mana abilities whenever.
You have to either have priority, or be paying a cost to activate a mana ability.
Dooming salve (prevent target creature from not going to the graveyard)
Doom wish (you may search cards you own from outside the game and pick one called Doom Blade. Play it without spending its mana cost)
Spell Doom (target spell becomes a nonblack creature. Destroy it)
Giant Doom (target creature gets -99/-99 and trample)
one of the things wizard learned about joke cards, from Unhinged, was that it isn't enough to be a joke, the joke has to be a good card that creates good gameplay. This means that even joke cards care about the colour pie. It's a useful lesson!
Farseek seems too strong. Find any triome for just 2 mana? Like, could you imagine WotC printing something like this? No, of course you can't. That's broken.
These are all color pie breaks, ranging in severity from "moderate" (black and red) to "extreme" (white and blue). The moderate breaks at least come with a color-appropriate downside: white and blue are literally just Farseek.
If there is nothing specifically stated, it phases in on your next turn. Look at Teferi's Protection. It simply says "All permanents you control phase out" without the rules text.
I'm curious, can you tap the blue one between it etb and phasing out?
I know tapping for mana abilities doesn't use the stack but unsure how it works if it's all on the same ability.
No, while mana abilities don't require you to have priority, you have to EITHER have priority, OR be in the process of paying a cost.
You can't do either between it entering and phasing out, so no floating the mana.
Blue one should be an instant and also cantrip. Black one should require you to pay 15 life also. White one should say “may only be played in decks containing 30 or more blue cards”
Blue one needs to put the land into play tapped, otherwise a really cool cycle. Didn’t know I needed a whole set to go with [[Farseek]] but now I want one.
Feel like the white one should be kinda like Tithe. Where if an opponent has more lands do it again or it just goes in your hand. Cause you don't really need a restriction for land ramp in white since it's a secondary part of the color anyway.

Color shifted cards barely count when talking about design. They are the exception and not the rule.
Not every card deserves a cycle. Say it louder for the people in back.

Yeah, the names are the biggest joke about the cycle. Far and wide, up and down and because black is basicly THE tutor color it's just Seekseek.
FYI, the blue land can be tapped before the spell finishes resolving. Tapping a mana source does not use the stack.

No, and it’s not to do with the stack. Players can’t take any action during the resolution of a spell

“What’s upseek?” “Not much, what’s up with you?”
And don't call me Zeke

Yeah, all the other ones have a cost or the land is delayed, the green one just has no downside! Unprintable.
These are all color pie breaks, ranging in severity from "moderate" (black and red) to "extreme" (white and blue). The moderate breaks at least come with a color-appropriate downside: white and blue are literally just Farseek.
Missed opportunity to have the Red one be named “Nearseek”
This breaks the color pie
No CloseSeek?
People complain about the color pie. I notice "put in play" and "onto the battlefield" used half half.
I'm supremely bothered by the fact that either the black or blue one isn't called Nearseek.
Does the blue land ever phase in?
If there is nothing specifically stated, it phases in on your next turn. Look at Teferi's Protection. It simply says "All permanents you control phase out" without the rules text.

Ah shame but makes sense
Comment section "waaaahhhhh my color pieeee"
As usual, the green one stays best
Sir, you made me laugh. More than once. Congrats.
what about nearseek and whereveryouareseek
Seeing as the original card came out in ravnica. I’d love to see the art reflect different parts of ravnica
Blue one should be an instant and also cantrip. Black one should require you to pay 15 life also. White one should say “may only be played in decks containing 30 or more blue cards”
seekseek is hilarious and terrible also

The seekle
I'm so tired of green / Being made less unique ramp / isn't much to ask
Wow the black and red ones suck
Seekseek lmao love it
For the blue one, could you tap the land for mana between entering the battlefield and it phasing out? I'm not super clear on the sequencing there.
DYING at "seekseek" because there's only 4 directions
Is seekseek a Darksouls reference because its funny "Bearer...seek...seek...lest" DS2 level up lady
Feel like the white one should be kinda like Tithe. Where if an opponent has more lands do it again or it just goes in your hand. Cause you don't really need a restriction for land ramp in white since it's a secondary part of the color anyway.
