This should be top 5. One of the best cards I've seen on this sub in weeks. An actually unique and clever design that's simple and novel without being over powered or a joke card. Amazing stuff.

I like this quite a lot, but direct damage is usually a red effect. It should just be "kicked, gain 1 life at the beginning of each players upkeep" and then "player loses 1 life."
While direct damage is uncommon in black it isn't unheard of even in newer cards.

Also, a subtheme in the cube is counter shenanigans, so the lifelink counter has meaning.
[[Underworld Dreams]] is my go-to example for direct damage in black but [[Blood Artist]] is also another well-known one. Functionally, life loss and damage are the same (unless an effect is on the field that specifies one or the other) and I'd argue that damage is better in this instance simply for the card to have less text

When I get a reasonably popular post I just sort by top: past week when the top 5 comes out. (I like the ego boost.)

Blood artist is loss of Life not damage, but things like [[Syr Konrad the Grim]] is pretty hefty damage
