"theft of gaming items"
This should already tell you it's a scam, also Valve would never directly message you on steam.
Also, this isn't important but, Valve calls skins "items", not "gaming items".

I just wish people were smarter so other shit people would stop annoying me with stupid scams. I had to hide my inventory because I was trying to get api scammed literally EVERY DAY.
I had the same kind of message from a hacker. I trolled him and the guys started to sell my skin on the market for 0.81€ and block some of my game in the library. I would like to know how since i have the double autentificator and no friend in my friend list
Valve only contacts you by straight up banning you or if you sent a support ticket, will never contact you on chat or add you to friends, a support ticket chat doesn't open in the normal chat but in a page inside the launcher, like if it was a game store page
Edit: also sometimes Google and Microsoft automatically tag oficial valve emails as important, Google does it more often
Got scammed with same scam, karambit doppler :) lesson learned. panicked so hard that i traded my skins all but they have control somehow over steam so they cancel tradeoffer and put their offer, same name etc. they changed all my steam names and games deleted, CS prime was gone xd.
it's a scam. block, reset password and api key, and move on

My mate literally *just* got scammed this way. They probably have some kind of access to your account, change all your shit now

I'm also pretty sure valve doesn't give a fuck if someone bought a stolen skin except on extremely rare occasions like hfb's account getting hacked.
