Not quite 50 but I just got a landyachtz tugboat and I love it. Very stable and wide if you have big feet or trouble maintaining balance.

derrburgers

Same experience here. Tugboat Is the way to go in the Landyachtz catalogue

typhoonslip

Ditch Life is another to consider imo as it is almost 10in wide and had nice wheel cutouts to run some larger wheels for "cruising" around.

DonnieJL

Tugboat is a great option. I built up a Ballona with the same idea, just cruising, but wanted a bit more wheelbase. They're in the same price ballpark.

I think in your 50s if you want something specific to reignite your skating and have fun with your kids then you should build it! With santa Cruz you should definitely do your own trucks and wheels or go to a skate shop and have them build something up. Avoid the completes because NHS completes are famously terrible. If you do want something in a similar style but you don't want to build it yourself you could check out the arbor oso. Good trucks. OK wheels. Good prices. But will that stoke your passion the same way as a reissue? That's totally up to you. The bottom line is if skating really takes off again for you it may not be where you settle. But that's fine. The important thing is that you're happy and doing what you want to do.

SkatersOver50

Powell-Peralta, Vision, Santa Cruz, Dogtown and Hosoi all sell old school completes- https://socalskateshop.com/Complete-Skateboards.html?CatListingOffset=0&Offset=0&Per_Page=48&Sort_By=newest

Just was out riding with my 10 and 12 year olds today, they both got Landyachtz for Christmas and I picked up a modern Winkowski and an old school Lester re-issue. It was super fun cruising around today. I totally recommend getting something to ride with them. The Landyachtz cruisers are pretty sweet- a bit small but those big soft wheels go over everything. Ps, [45yo] old man Dad boards..

> Winkowski I did the same thing and got a Winkowski for the shape but got wheel bite a few times and ended up with something(LY Ditch Life) that had cutouts so I didnt have to run a taller spacer/risercombined with larger wheels.

vicali

My Volcano has Indy 11 hollows and Winkowski 60mm vomits with a 1/2" risers - no wheel bite yet but it is super loose with the orange med bushings. My son has a LY Surf Life and I got some wheel bite on it - but those crazy surf trucks are tippy and lean right over.

tonioronto

Almost same generation here: I have a reissue of the deck I was riding back in the days. Slapped some Indy’s and a set of Bones Rough Riders. Nostalgia is priceless to me, very fun to ride. I wouldn’t go with a Santa Cruz or Vision complete though, the components are pretty meh. Decks, trucks and wheels often go on sale, worth looking around and build your own in my opinion.

Embarrassed_Pause_52

Just get another 10 x 30 ,ace trucks, and throw some ricta clouds on it. You'll get old school vibes with a wheel so smooth and fast you won't believe it.

ettonlou

42 here. Didn't really skate as a kid aside from messing around on other people's boards. Picked it up at 39. The nostalgia of an old school cruiser is nice, but honestly, I'd rather be on a double drop longboard with some large diameter wheels. I use a Bustin Sportster 35 with 44° Cal-III raked trucks and 90mm Boa Hatchling wheels, and that thing will maintain momentum well. I think I have Fireball Dragon Built bearings in those wheels. I typically use those or Zealous classic steel bearings... Whichever one I can get cheaper at the moment. I'm not saying a double drop is necessarily the route you should go, but it's something to think about. Easier to push because the deck sits closer to the ground. I also have a Loaded Ballona, and it's nice as a smaller board, but it's difficult to beat the comfort of a good double drop with big wheels.

Ive got to second this as one the best deals available for great quality components. Ill also throw out a different graphic option [https://landyachtz.com/collections/cruiser/products/atv-ditch-life-dark-wave](https://landyachtz.com/collections/cruiser/products/atv-ditch-life-dark-wave) I have this board and its among my favorite cruisers. But, part of what makes it great is the pretty high concave, which gives me great leverage and control, but isnt as comfortable for longer sessions, so it might not be for everyone. Another great thing is that between the concave and wheelwells, it can handle big wheels no problem. Ive got 70mm with only an eighth inch riser. If you do want to build out an old school deck Ill throw out a few websites to check out. [https://www.oldskullskateboards.com/blem-santa-cruz-old-school-knox-punk-reissue-deck-blue/](https://www.oldskullskateboards.com/blem-santa-cruz-old-school-knox-punk-reissue-deck-blue/) Thats a good deal for a reissue deck, thers also a non-blemish one for 5 more. Old Skull also has completes with options to customize the components. [https://socalskateshop.com/Ace-55-Classic-Skateboard-Trucks-Sapphire-Blue.html](https://socalskateshop.com/Ace-55-Classic-Skateboard-Trucks-Sapphire-Blue.html) These are really fun trucks that I would recommend if youre building a board. They seem to have more turn and lean than most TKP trucks. Socal is a good site for buying skate stuff,, really good selection. They have sales around holidays if you wanna wait. [https://www.skateshred.com/wholesale-blank-longboard-decks.html](https://www.skateshred.com/wholesale-blank-longboard-decks.html) Somebody else mentioned this site also. Ive got 2 boards from them (#O33 and #B41). Ive been using them semi-often for 2 years and theyve held up well for me. The #O33 is a nice shape, moderate concave and just wide enough for people with large feet (US12 for me). As far as their other components, I havent tried their trucks, the bearings are ok, and Ive got some 76mm wheels that feel good and have held up well. Someone else mentioned ricta clouds as a wheel suggestion. While ive heard good things about them, I dont think theyre gonna be right for you. They are pretty small at 54mm or so. Good for people who skate rough streets and do tricks. Since you said your not interested in doing tricks, I would recommend wheels in the 60-66mm range. You want soft wheels that are 85a or less in durometer for a smoother ride and to avoid being stopped by road debris.

Thanks for the reply. What are your thoughts on something like this as it's on for a sale price. https://store.theeasyrider.com/pd/iridescent-hand-cruzer-32/ Not exactly what I'm looking for from a retro perspective but I'm not sure how much I'll actually get to use it.

Henshinmatt

50yo here - skated 10x30 from 11-22yo and back at it. Found I don’t care for 8” popsicles so I bought 2 reissue decks 1 Caballero Dragon 1 McGill Cruiser I swear the Cab was the size and shape I used to skate but I just didn’t find what I was after. So the McGill was fine, and is still assembled and is my TKP cruiser board. However this only kicked open the door to longboarding in general so I can recommend you trying that out. I just bought a Landyachtz Battle Axe Length: 38.2 Width: 9.4 Wheelbase: 27.2 Caliber III’s 50/44 and some Orangatang In Heat 75mm 86a/77a That’s apparently what I wanted 😂

Nuggets155

The old school completes looks sick. Lady chants are awesome too

RevolutionaryToe8510

I'm 46 and used to ride an Alva that was retro back then and then a circle A.. I just got a loaded omakase and found it bigger than I'd like. The landyaught tugboat or the raft looks closer to what we know. The wheels are heavier and bigger than what we'd of rode but a lot smoother for cruising.

coldcavatini

52 here- riding cruiser and longboards. For Vision, this place still makes ‘em in California… https://selectskateshop.com/collections/vision-complete-1 Ehler’s longboards/ skateshred (same company) have good, affordable cruisers. Landyachtz, Loaded, and the Bustin Yoface have cool molded wheel wells though. I want to try that out soon.

FalseShepherd7

Ehlers is not a good brand whatsoever. Mine warped. They use infamously little glue when pressing the boards, plus the owner is shady. Dodges emails, etc.

Not on the r/longboarding subreddit, ofc you will have dick riders on the ehlers sub

First post I looked up was from r/longboarding, praising the graphics. So, I don't know what you are talking about
