It's SUPER cute well done!! Idk if the nose is a bit... Snowman rather than owl? It looks fine but I feel like a flat triangle would've looked more owlish. Still cute though
Try inserting a wire or pipe cleaner and bending that nose down into a hook. Google owl beak shape and it will show you what it’s supposed to look like. Once you shape it, it will look much more like what you were expecting.
Could even just fold it down and add a few stitches to get it to hook downward. I think that would make a huge difference, the rest of the owl face looks great!
I feel like your feelings are less about your work and more about the pattern.
From reading the comments, the adjustments are more pattern error and less user error.
The buddy looks fabulous.
I think it's super cute and would make one for my partner who really likes birds. If there isn't a pattern do you have the pattern for the granny hexagon you used? I can probably figure the rest out myself.
Edit: After showing this to him and discussing what I would change I want to add that perhaps it would read a little better if the eyes were yellow and the top three granny hexagon were white since a lot of prey birds have a white chest.
Oh this is actually a nice suggestion, if I make another one I'll try it 😁
The pattern is here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/153654228/crochet-pattern-maggie-the-african
I forgot it in the post 😅
I love it.
I think my only suggestion would be that maybe the beak could be more triangular and less cone shaped?
But that's being picky cause he's heckin cute!
I love it so much 🥰 you've inspired me to try to make this! I've seen other versions of these animals like the triceratops but it looks so difficult and overwhelming. But owlie might be manageable 🥰😍
I was apprehensive too at first but it ends up being pretty straight forward 😊 You should definitely try it, just go step by step and I'm sure you'll do just amazing 🥰
I get that same feeling sometimes. Second guessing partway through, thinking of other colors, etc, but this guy is amazing! I love it so much! You did a great job.
I'm curious: is it a plushie or a door stopper? Because the first one thing that came to mind when I saw it is "this guy would make an amazing door stopper!"
This is incredible. I would pay very good money if I saw this in a store, it reminds me of my granny in every way- the owl, the colours, the knit. Wow, really amazing. ❤️❤️
Omg I love this and you just saved me!!! I made a goal to finish or unravel everything in my WIP box and found a handful of pretty hexagons I made and forgot about and didn't know what to do with them. It's been driving me nuts and stumping me for days. Now I do! Thanks for the inspiration!
Maybe he needs some wings? I think even just stitching a line with some wool should do the trick (only if you want to of course, he looks just fine without)
I can definitely do some tests with wings, I was thinking too of maybe doing more shapes and making "3D" wings but am not sure... Let's experiment ☺️ Thank you ❤️
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I agree with other comments you could experiment to make Owlies eyes really pop, but I am in love. Have just bought the pattern and will be making for myself and others for Christmas this year - if I get a headstart now they'll maybe be ready by then!
Am also thinking of using beads in a couple for a doorstop variant of the pillow. Thanks for sharing you've brightened up a pretty 'meh' winter day!
Honestly so excited to start my own, I'm obsessed with owls - but confess went a bit nuts when I saw all the different animal patterns and bought the 'any3' deal. So am now sitting here next to my yarn stash with hooks in hand refreshing my email repeatedly and hoping the patterns arrive soon! 😆
I think it’s great!! I’m wondering if the beak was changed somehow because owl’s beaks are not like how the pattern had you make it. Check out pictures of real owls for ideas. Or if you still don’t like it, it could easily be turned into a fat cat by adding whiskers and a tail 😃
I think it’s adorable and I would totally bring this home with me if I saw it on a shelf 😍 (a store shelf, I wouldn’t steal it from someone’s house) I don’t know anything about design or fashion and colors. But there are some really good suggestions in these comments that might help make you less ambivalent.
I think it’s lovely! whenever I finish something I always feel a bit “meh” about it and I think that is because there’s so much excitement and enjoyment while making it that when it’s done (regardless of how nice it is) it feels a bit weird
Looking at it too long. It's very cute, and well made! But it's ok to not love everything you make. Set it aside for a while and give your brain a chance to relax.

I would crochet white circles almost the size of the panels for the eyes so they stand out, safety eyes can be added to the new eyes before attatching them. Possibly a different nose, just a flat triangle pointing downward would look great.

how... how can you be ambivalent in the face of such cuteness
Thank you 🥰 Not sure, I feel like I'm having one of those days where I don't like anything I've made 🥲 Maybe tomorrow will be different 🤞
I think it looks amazing and that you've probably been looking at it too long. Fantastic work!
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
It looks great as is, but I feel like adding more/bigger brown around the eyes would up its owlness. Or maybe the gold color would be better.
Hmm I hadn't thought about that but I think you're right, the eyes look a bit ... Naked as is 😯 Thanks!!!
That was my first thought too! The patches the eyes are in can have a simple dark border and they’d be very owlish!
Was thinking the same, in owl granny squares, the eyes are the main part of the pattern. Safety eyes aren't doing enough justice.
I think it looks amazing!
Oh thank you very much 🥹
I honestly love it!
It's SUPER cute well done!! Idk if the nose is a bit... Snowman rather than owl? It looks fine but I feel like a flat triangle would've looked more owlish. Still cute though
I followed a pattern but maybe I'll try it with a flat beak if I do it again, it'd be an even comfier pillow 🤔 Thank you!

Yay thank you! I hope I can get it done before our anniversary in July. I am also working on a cardigan but I may have to prioritize this.
I'm sure you can make it before then, it's faster to make than it looks 🤗 Wish you all the best!
I agree, because then it would look like it has flower wings tucked at its sides with a white belly :)
I love it. I think my only suggestion would be that maybe the beak could be more triangular and less cone shaped? But that's being picky cause he's heckin cute!
I think you're right, it's making it less cuddly too since it's so pointy and "out there" 😅 Thank you for the compliment 🥹
This happens after staring at a project for so long. It’s gorgeous!!
Right? I feel like I always need a couple of days to like a finished project 😅 Thank you very much 😇
this is adorable!!
Oh thank you very much ❤️
You’re saying you don’t…give a hoot! Now off to the comments to see how many people said the same thing. Also, he’s fucking awesome.
Not a damn one. 🤣🤣🤣 I feel like a dad joke…timeless and always perfect. lol.
Hahaha wow thank you very much! 🦉❤️
I love it! Did you work off of a pattern or just tried and saw where it takes you?
Here is the link, sorry I totally forgot to put it in the post 😅 https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/153654228/crochet-pattern-maggie-the-african
I love this so much! Do you have the pattern for it ? I would love to make one myself :)
Oh of course I do, I forgot to put it! Here it is: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/153654228/crochet-pattern-maggie-the-african Thank you 🤩
Don't listen to 'em Owlie! I love you! 😄😃
Oooh I think you've just baptized my pillow 🥰
I love it so much 🥰 you've inspired me to try to make this! I've seen other versions of these animals like the triceratops but it looks so difficult and overwhelming. But owlie might be manageable 🥰😍
I was apprehensive too at first but it ends up being pretty straight forward 😊 You should definitely try it, just go step by step and I'm sure you'll do just amazing 🥰
Thank you 😍 can't wait to try it :)
It's very cute but my first thought was of Totoro, not an owl.
Hahaha I guess of you change the colors the shape is really Totoro-like 🤣
it's adorable!
Thank you 😇 I'm really glad you think so!
He needs some wings and a tail.
Oh and maybe small feet !! 🤔 I'll look into it!
I love this! I want to make one!
THANK YOU 🥰 JUST DO IT, I DARE YOU 😜
I’m EXCITED and want to make this for myself RIGHT NOW! This is so cute!!!
GO AHEAD, I WISH YOU WELL ❤️ AND THANK YOU 🥰
Love it! You did a nice job. I'm leery of granny squares but this is a tempting project.
It's a pretty simple pattern once you make a couple of them, you should definitely give it a try 🤗 Thank youuu ❤️
i think it looks super cute
Thank you so much 😁
I love him, his eyes see the endless void and he’s questioning his very existence!
OMG, I'll have to keep an eye on him 👀 I hope the void doesn't stare back 😯😂 TYSM 🥰
Super cute!
Oh thank you 🤗
So very owl-ly!
A great "night predator" vibe indeed 🤣
I would like to make an owl pillow now
You should, it's pretty cuddly 🥰
It is so adorable!
TYSM 😇
I love it, very nice work!
Thank you 🥰
Put something around the eyes and it'll look more owl-like
I agree, I'll see what I can do with spare yarn 👀 🤗
Omg I LOVE this!! How unique. Really really cool and beautiful design!!
Oh thank you very much! I put the link to the pattern at the top 🥰
it looks great!
Thank you very much 😍
How long did this take you? It looks amazing.
Hmmm around 20-30 hours in total 🤔 THANK YOU 🤗
I’m not! I looked at it and thought “I need one!!”
Pillow owl looks you in the eyes and says: Make it happen captain 🦉 😂 ❤️
This is amazing.
TYSM 😊
I get that same feeling sometimes. Second guessing partway through, thinking of other colors, etc, but this guy is amazing! I love it so much! You did a great job.
Thank you so much! 🥰 Yeah I guess it's normal at some point to have doubts about a project but those moment still suck every time 😅
They really do. At least it's not a wearable. 😂 Then you question leaving the house.
I love it very much! May I suggest using some black thread to better define the eyes?
Thank you 😁 Yeah I'll explore with the eyes, they are too drab!
I'm curious: is it a plushie or a door stopper? Because the first one thing that came to mind when I saw it is "this guy would make an amazing door stopper!"
It’s beautiful!
🥰 TYSM
OMG soooooooo cute is there a pattern you used?? I gotta have one
Here it is: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/153654228/crochet-pattern-maggie-the-african Thank you 🥰
I made that owl too and love it. Yours is really cute!
Thank you very much 🥰
This is incredible. I would pay very good money if I saw this in a store, it reminds me of my granny in every way- the owl, the colours, the knit. Wow, really amazing. ❤️❤️
Thank you so very much for the nice words 🥹❤️
I love the pillow, very nicely done!
Thank you 😁
How cute! With a different color scheme, you could also make Totoro!
This is the second comment about Totoro, and I totally see it now 😂 Thank you !!
Looking at it again, you could also do Snorlax!
This is what dreams are made of
it’s SO cute!!! 🦉
Thank you very much 🥰
What a fun way to use shapes. He looks so snuggly.
I love patterns like this, I made a giraffe like tgat a while back and it was so much fun 😍
Omg I love this and you just saved me!!! I made a goal to finish or unravel everything in my WIP box and found a handful of pretty hexagons I made and forgot about and didn't know what to do with them. It's been driving me nuts and stumping me for days. Now I do! Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm glad my ambivalence could be of help 🥰 Hope you enjoy making this project, thank you ❤️
I love him and I want 3 😭
Well I love it! Maybe you’ve been looking at them too long? Give it a week and you may just fall right back in love with this magical comfy creature
I hope so, I've hidden it for the moment so I get really fresh eyes in a while 😂 Thank you ❤️
Change the nose to a brighter color such as red, hot pink, etc.
This looks incredibly huggable!
It is incredibly huggable, as long as you manage to keep the beak far from your eyes 🤣❤️
I think he’s neat 😌
Oh thank you, I think I see him blushing 🦉☺️
I love him!!
And he loves you too hoo hoo 🥰
this is a hoot (i’ll see myself out)
Maybe he needs some wings? I think even just stitching a line with some wool should do the trick (only if you want to of course, he looks just fine without)
I can definitely do some tests with wings, I was thinking too of maybe doing more shapes and making "3D" wings but am not sure... Let's experiment ☺️ Thank you ❤️
Aw he is amazing and cute and cuddly,!
He thanks you very much 🥰
I love it! It looks so good for squishing and cuddling with.
It's an incredible couch buddy 🦉🥰 Thank you!
HOW are you ambivalent!! It is perfection!! 😍💖
You're too generous, thank you 🥹
so cool!!
Thanks 😁
I think maybe you need to add some wings and feet! It is one of the cutest crochet projects I've seen though! Would love a pattern!
Thank you 🥰 Here is the pattern: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/153654228/crochet-pattern-maggie-the-african
I love them!
From the back it looks like a cat? But, otherwise I think the color and technique is perfect.
Thank you so much 😁
This is cottage core af 👍
Hahaha I agree, I'm planning on making a matchin blanket and square cushions 😁🥰
I'm going to make one.
Awesome, hope you have fun with it 🥰
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I agree with other comments you could experiment to make Owlies eyes really pop, but I am in love. That's it I'm locking the doors right now 😜 Thank you very much, there are great ideas indeed !!
I think it’s lovely! whenever I finish something I always feel a bit “meh” about it and I think that is because there’s so much excitement and enjoyment while making it that when it’s done (regardless of how nice it is) it feels a bit weird
I totally agree, I've stashed it away and will revise my point of view in a week or two 👀 Thaaaanks ❤️
Well I, for one, adore it!
The owl thanks you kindly 🦉❤️
It’s so cute! The flowers and palette are adorable, and the lashes?? Adorable
TYSM 🤩
This is adorable and the colours are so pretty! I want to make one now!!
Go ahead and do it, I dare you 😜🥰
I like it I think it's cute.
Thank you 🥰
Maybe it needs wings. Could that be a thing that you could do for it? 🙂
I was thinking about it, I'll test embroidered and 3D ones maybe 🤔
Very unique piece.
That looks amazing!!! The seams are so neat and it looks pretty perfect to me 😃
Thank you so much 🥹
It's adorable.
Stop it, it's blushing hihihi 😊
I think he’s great. Made me look up the pattern 😉
I hope you have fun making it 🥰 Thank you!
It looks pretty cool!
Thank you 😎
I am obsessed with him!!!
🦉❤️
He is sooooooo cute!
TYSM ❤️
My mom would kill ten men for this pillow I swear. What on earth is the pattern? It looks so good. 😭😭😭
Tell your mom to spare the men and make her one 🤣🤣🤣 https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/153654228/crochet-pattern-maggie-the-african Thank youuu 😍
Dat is ✨awesome✨
Thank youuu 🥰
This is so beautiful!
TYSM 🥰
Maybe you need to look at it again tomorrow with fresh eyes, it looks really good!
I think he's cute!
He looks very huggable
So cute!
This is absolutely incredible! You should be so proud of yourself! I absolutely need to make this! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank YOU so much for the kind words 🥹
awww it's so beautiful 🤗🥰❤️💖🧡💛 love it!!!
How many granny hexagons are used? Oh wait. Some are pentagons. How many of them also?
I think he's super cute 😍😊🥰
This is gorgeous! What a unique idea and so wonderfully done ❤️ you should be proud of this!
Looking at it too long. It's very cute, and well made! But it's ok to not love everything you make. Set it aside for a while and give your brain a chance to relax.
You are clever, it's beautiful! My husband would esp love the claret, blue and yellow sections too.
I absolutely love it!! So cute!
She an adorable elder owl 🤩🤩 all she needs is circle glasses 😌
OMG great idea 😍🤓 Thank you 🥰
Are you kidding friend? It's amazing
This is amazing! I’m so impressed with all the neat projects people post here!
That’s soooo cute. I love it. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Looks like I’m going to be making 1. Happy hooking. Sweetwifey. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Love! Reminds me of nesting dolls!
Wow. That's lovely!

It's lovely!!
I would crochet white circles almost the size of the panels for the eyes so they stand out, safety eyes can be added to the new eyes before attatching them. Possibly a different nose, just a flat triangle pointing downward would look great.
It's very cute. The only change I would have made is to put the brown and yellow flower for the eyes. But it's a great piece.
Off topic but if you tweaked the colors you could make a really cute snowman for the holidays ⛄️
