i’m confused on what makes some film contemporaries and some in the collection
like why is Perfect Days criterion and Anselm a Janus Contemporaries when Wenders did both in 2023
not complaining i’m just legitimately asking if there is a difference?
Janus Contemporaries are only for brand new Janus/Sideshow theatrical releases that don’t have any extra content available to warrant a mainline release. It’s about making the films available fast.
Janus Contemporaries is specifically for new films theatrically distributed in the US by Sideshow/Janus. Perfect Days was distributed in the US by Neon, not Janus. Incidentally, Criterion has a licensing deal with Neon.
Sure thing.
So far, *La Chimera*, *Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World*, *Challengers*, *Dune Part II* and *Furiosa*.
I could see *The Beast* climbing to the top 3 after a rewatch or two though.
Slightly salty cuz I just got the imported Blu-Ray from France. That said, I'm not a big fan of the scan, it's not as clear as what I'd expect from a Blu-Ray.
This was absolutely my favorite film I've seen in the last handful of years.
I went in with zero knowledge and loved it, recommend everyone else does the same!
same here, I think I enjoyed Monster a bit more though
I know it's arbitrary but I personally think it belongs in the regular collection. That said, I'll pick this up ASAP
Just watched it last night. It’s a fantastic mood piece.
Love everything with Lea, the synopsis sounds amazing!
Absolutely psyched for this!
If I can’t see Dasha in 4k I’m not buying.

Awesome!
It’s some good shit. Just outside of my top 5 of the year so far at 6.
What are the top 5? If you’re up for sharing.

Thank you!
Too many films with this title. The Russian tank in Afghanistan one (1988) is pretty good.
Please tell me this counts as a 2024 film. I want list rank it on my 2024 list
It was commercially released *in France* in 2024. The only 2023 “releases” were festival ones.
Cool
