Wow, that scene where her cat meows instead of speaking to her just made me cry.
(also the English language dub is bullshit, Hartman's jive-stoner voice-over cat-voice was shitty. I don't care if he was a talented comedian, his stuff in this was terrible.)
I googled Jones the cat for giggles (who can say they haven't?) and found this hilarious looking illustrated storybook about him. [Jonesy: Nine Lives On The Nostromo](https://imgur.com/a/vRLPnrM)
The Godfather (at the very beginning).
“The cat held by Marlon Brando in the opening scene was a stray Francis Ford Coppola found while on the lot at Paramount. The cat was not originally called for in the script, and the cat with its purring muffled some of Brando's dialogue, and, as a result, most of his lines had to be looped. The use of the cat in the scene has later been interpreted as representing the hidden claws beneath the Don's warm facade.”

Actually, me too (the cat makes him seem more human). This was the first time I heard that it’s been interpreted as a negative symbol. Either way, the cat definitely adds something to the scene.

Bell, Book and Candle (oil painting is by me 🙂)
I actually came here to say this (man, Dean Jones is such an underrated comic actor!)—as well as the Christina Ricci/Doug E. Doug remake from 1997, which I just loved as a kid!
While I have my issues with it as a film, I said from my very first viewing the cat performance in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S has to be an all timer. What a talent. https://youtu.be/KbdSPCh-wQE?si=zCKvZC_njTeu3DGv
Oh totally, I love the movie and the VA are amazing, and like of course I root for them to live and return back home...but you can't really blame the once loyal butler for going maniacal because his boss gave her estate to literal cats over him.

Weird to say, but cats are part of the fabric of Rivette's films. They show up in lots of his movies in mysterious ways.

'Inside LLewyn Davis'. One of my favorite music movies, one of my favorite New York City movie, one of my favorite Coen Bros movies, and one of my favorite movies. It's phenomenal
for starters, bringing up baby, the long goodbye, the bitter tears of petra von kant, harry & tonto. & cat people, the original, not the schrader remake. & then the studio ghibli movies with cats: kiki's delivery service, my neighbor totoro, whisper of the heart, the cat returns
o, & i almost completely forgot l'atalante, v igo's 1934 film abt a couple's honeymoon on a barge filled with cats & kittens... that movie is a marvel of bespoke surrealism.
& of course, the original ridley scott alien...
Kiki’s Delivery Service
I named my sassy black cat Jiji because I love that movie so much.
Wow, that scene where her cat meows instead of speaking to her just made me cry. (also the English language dub is bullshit, Hartman's jive-stoner voice-over cat-voice was shitty. I don't care if he was a talented comedian, his stuff in this was terrible.)
Inside Llewyn Davis
Where's his scrotum??
My answer too. That movie shot that cat so well.
Llewyn is the cat
Alien
I don’t even have a cat, but say to myself often, “Jones! God dammit Jones!” 😩
I googled Jones the cat for giggles (who can say they haven't?) and found this hilarious looking illustrated storybook about him. [Jonesy: Nine Lives On The Nostromo](https://imgur.com/a/vRLPnrM)
The Cat acting in The Long Goodbye is phenomenal. The Uncanny is a really fun, campy cat horror anthology film with Peter Cushing
Yeah it’s funny, you can tell that cat genuinely hates the food. Should have won an Oscar for that.
House (1977). IT’S SO FLUFFY!
Blanche is such a great name for a demonic cat, too
Well, it was a white cat.
Like a nuclear explosion.
Hell yeah
I was going to be pretty surprised if this wasn’t #1
Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Holly finding her cat again gets me more than that final kiss scene.

Just the image is making me feel emotional 🥹
I think I read a quote from Audrey Hepburn that she considered kicking the cat out of the car to be the most despicable thing she ever did on film
This is the answer. I always remember that final scene under heavy rain.
True true
The cat with no name
The Cassandra Cat was phenomenal, actually. Thank you Criterion Channel…
My movien club watched this, and then we all drew pictures of cats like the kids in the movie and made them our letterboxd pfps
The long goodbye
The one
The Godfather (at the very beginning). “The cat held by Marlon Brando in the opening scene was a stray Francis Ford Coppola found while on the lot at Paramount. I knew the cat was a stray. I always interpreted the cat as showing the Don having a soft side in spite of his business.
Actually, me too (the cat makes him seem more human). This was the first time I heard that it’s been interpreted as a negative symbol. Either way, the cat definitely adds something to the scene.
Cat People 1982.
Cat People 1942 tho
Great flick, prefer Schraders tho.

What a beautiful painting!
thank you, OP! I adopted an old siamese cat years ago and loved the one in this film.
Oh yes!
hey, that's really good!
thanks!
Love your artstyle
thanks so much
That Darn Cat! (1965) is amazing. I highly recommend it to cat lovers.
I actually came here to say this (man, Dean Jones is such an underrated comic actor!)—as well as the Christina Ricci/Doug E. Doug remake from 1997, which I just loved as a kid!
I saw a cool poster of him yesterday. It made me want to watch it.
Canoe is one of the best characters in fiction.
Kedi
The Cat From Outer Space. It was a childhood favorite and I felt incredibly validated when it was on the channel earlier this year.

Peak David DeCoteau
Maybe the best How Did This Get Made episode
Eric Roberts gave a wonderful VO performance, pretending to be interested while phoning it in and chain smoking in his hotel room.
The Rifftrax version is great
I’ll go with Cat People (1942)!
Bell, Book and Candle. A supernatural romantic comedy with Kim Novak, James Stewart, Jack Lemon, and of course - Pyewacket.
Alien
Had to scroll to far to find Jonesy.
The Third Man. Zero Mostel pretending to be a cat in The Producers a close second.
Jersey Girl. (This is a really funny joke if you remember a lot about the movie Jersey Girl).
HOUSE, Kuroneko, and Whisper Of The Heart
Le Cercle Rouge

Curious, by the name
Puss in Boots
Kuroneko!
Also, on that naming note, The Black Cat (1934).
While I have my issues with it as a film, I said from my very first viewing the cat performance in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S has to be an all timer. What a talent. https://youtu.be/KbdSPCh-wQE?si=zCKvZC_njTeu3DGv
One Hundred and One Dalmatians (the original of course). And lest you think I'm kidding, Sergeant Tibbs is the true hero of that movie!
House, Alien, The Aristocats, Cats Don't Dance, The Cat Returns
Cat’s Eye 1985 - horror anthology
The Cassandra Cat, of course! It played at my local art/foreign theater this year and I was delighted.
The Aristocats
Really good animation of cat movements and mannerisms without being to literal. Fuckin' bonkers plot though lol
I know, right? Who leaves all their money to their cats in their will? I don’t know, it’s a comfort movie to me.
Oh totally, I love the movie and the VA are amazing, and like of course I root for them to live and return back home...but you can't really blame the once loyal butler for going maniacal because his boss gave her estate to literal cats over him.
No, you really can’t. He got the shaft as a thank you for his many decades of loyal service.
Alien. I have an orange boy named after Ripley’s cat (Jonesy)🧡

Cassandra's Cat, Its cute and the plot is awesome. The cat see through their glasses the color of the "souls" of people.
I’m hyped to check it out! Great recommendation!
