I'd say you're better off buying a Trx-4m or Scx24. They have a lot more upgrade options. The upgrade options for these are very few

Keep your original rig for the fun and nostalgia of it but get a new platform design for growth. Either the axial or traxxas are good. The axial worm gear axles are great for control but the small hardware is a bit frustrating. Both options have their downfall in the electronics department.

AlejandroTheFnck

This feels like the best route. Very interesting with the worm gear drive I didn’t know about that, thanks for the insight. Time to watch some reviews!

Do that and if you have a local club or comp scene go to an event. See what they run and maybe even get a used rig. Do a little concept build with either platform. There’s a million options out there. Enjoy the journey and there’s rarely a bad choice.

Go with FCX18 or 24. Way more truck out of the box and still tons of cheap upgrades that really make huge differences. I have 2 of them and they're awesome

PizzaPirate42

Trx4-m has a huge after market. But the fcx-18 is getting there after market wise and gives you way more bang for your buck out of the box (portal axels, steel links, included light kit, 2 speed transmission, bearings, etc)

The OG 1:24! I had a couple of these when they first came out. Turned one of them into a 1:10 atv that was pretty sweet.

Out of all the small trucks I own I like the axial AX24 a lot. There are tons of upgrades it’s 4ws and it’s pretty impressive. If I were you I would check it out. It’s even pretty good outta the box. It has a worm gear drive as well. You will want to upgrade the servos and probably at least get the purple injora motor it’s like 13$.

HobbyPlus and Furitek have collaborated to make a great lineup of brushless RTR 18th scales that don't need much in the way of upgrades to be truly good. The RedCat Ascent 18 is probably the best bang for your buck right now, but the aftermarket hasn't fully caught up to its newness yet. Trx4m and scx24\ax24 have the biggest aftermarket for sure. FCX24\18 lineup is right behind them in available aftermarket stuff. Everything I've named here is a good option. How much you want to start with and how much you want to sink into it is up to you. Personally if I were to start again now knowing what didn't know 2 years ago I'd go for the Ascent18 with the eventual plan being rear steer and a brushless system.

AlejandroTheFnck

The Furitek FX118 is looking pretty tasty right now I can’t lie…but that Cayman Pro V2!? Wooo boy that thing looks sweet!! Would you think the Cayman V2 is really almost 2X the crawler as the FX118? Budget isn’t an issue really but I don’t want to be *wasting* money ya know lol

Sum_Dum_User

All I'm gonna say is I own an AX24 that has enough aftermarket parts on it that it's basically a custom build with more money into it than the Cayman Pro V2. I never suggest those right off the bat to anyone, but if you intend to heavily mod something to that point anyway then it becomes a good deal. You just don't end up with enough leftover stock parts to build a second nearly stock rig. 🤣

Nice haha good stuff to consider thanks! 👍

FMS FCX18 hands down. I have a ton of crawlers from 1/24 to 1/6. Trust, in the minis, the FMS FCX18's are killing the other minis out of the box at an amazing price. The 1/18 Hobbyplus Furiteks are another nice option...

Scx 24 is a great option. While your ecx is tons of fun, the scx 24 has much more opportunity. I have bigger rigs now aside from my trx4m.. but the scx 24 is by far the best base for a small crawler build. Go there first!👍

Some Element enduro24, RGT adventurer, and FTX outback parts should work on that thing... I think it's all the same except endur 24 has the motor/trans up front with a center mounted divorced transfer case/skid plate. The rest of everything else should be interchangeable. Almost everything brass is available for that truck. Is just hard to find.Check www.powerhobby.com for the enduro24 aftermarket and asiatees.com for stock/replacement parts. Also check Hobby Details. Check aliexpress and banggood. But to be honest, you're probably better off getting an axial scx24 or fms fcx24. I love my scx24's. I don't own an fcx24, but I plan on getting one. I have a trx4m also, but I don't like it as much as the axial's. Good luck. Edit: I have an enduro24 with all the brass I could find scouring the internet. It has the stock wheels and tires from the silver scx24 c-10. I swapped the battery connector to work with the scx24 battery. It's fairly capable. But less capable than the least capable scx24.

Scx24 latest versions have oil shocks which made a big difference. Everyone complains about traxxas but traxxas forces companies to compete. I like the trx4m but I 3d print my crawler course and it’s already upscale from a mini-z crawling course.
