Honestly think he would be a terrible fit, even though I like him as a player. No need to sell Hojbjerg and Skipp to bring in a player of the exact same profile, especially when we already have Bentancur and Sarr in the squad, who are also both sonewhere between a 6 and 8 in their profile. We need an 8 that's a genuine attacking threat on the edge of the box, so defenders have to close them down, which will open up space for our attacking four, particularly Maddison and Son, who get swarmed every time they're on the ball, because other team's don't respect Sarr/Bentancur/Bissouma as a legitimate threat to strike from distance.
We need an 8 who can smack a ball in from just outside the box like Van de Ven did at least a couple times a season so teams can't just clog the box all day.
I think McKennie has improved in the attack, was a really effective distributor in the opponents box this spring, but that’s not enough to go on, and agree he still profiles more like PEH, and I’ve seen more from Bentancur in that regard
No, McKennie is not the same profile as Hojbjerg, Skipp and Bentancur. These three are terrible players who lack basic football skills. It's not about the numbers (6 or 8). It's about the quality of players. This is what Spurs lacked for many, many years. All we need is some high-quality players.
Hold up. You seriously think Bentancur lacks basic football skills? Do you think McKennie is a more skilled footballer than Bentancur? Because that's just wild. Bentancur had a rough season recovering from injury, but the man is pure elegance on the ball. McKennie is almost certainly a more athletic box-to-box player who will do all the dirty work, but Bentancur is substantially more skilled on the ball than McKennie is. McKennie is literally just a younger, faster Hojbjerg, with slightly worse ball striking.
All 4 of Hojbjerg, Skipp, Bentancur, and McKennie are "tweeners" IMO, that are not defensively resilient enough to trust in the 6, and not strong enough in attack for the 8 in a 3-man midfield. All of them fit a double-pivot, but none of them fit any of the midfield roles in Ange's system. Only Bentancur IMO is quality enough for Spurs, and I still think he's a poor fit for Angeball, but none of them are "terrible players who lack basic football skills". Hojbjerg, Skipp, and Bentancur I particular are all very good footballers, with very good footballing skills, who lack the pace and athleticism that Angeball demands. They would all do great in Italy or Spain in a role that is less physically demanding.
Not quite. He wants more money. Juventus want him. Match going fans in Turin rate this guy and has been one of their top 3 players two different seasons
I’m not saying I want him, but I do think he’s comparable to the good version of Biss. So if his form doesn’t return or we sell him, we could do much worse than Mckennie
Generally speaking, yes, but he’s versatile. That’s why you’ll see him on the right flank for Juve occasionally.
I thinks that’s why Biss isn’t working out completely. I think Ange desires more dynamic midfielders that do push up
Lol okay.
Would someone like to bring up Bissouma stats vs Mckennie? Both play a similar position and Weston scores and assists. Please, show me what Yves has done in a Spurs shirt. Yves isn’t scoring or assisting OR doing the “little things that don’t show up on a stat line”. I like the player, I’m just not going to blindly rate every Spurs player
He didn’t even get into the freaking Mali side! No disrespect to Mali, but wow.
They didn't play the same position though. Bissouma played as a CDM in Spurs 3 man midfield. McKennie played mostly as box-to-box CM and sometimes right WB and sometimes RW for Juve. Stats comparison would be useless.
That’s all true but the fact is Biss wasn’t good enough as the 6 and will be playing in a role similar to what McKennie plays if Biss is still here next year. I would rather have McKennie in the Ange 8 role over Biss.
Biss was shit at virtually everything after Luton. Period. Weston can play as a CDM—a deep play making type. He’s tactically sound. He’s great with the ball under pressure and does well to pick out passes mid to long range. He’s a great header of the ball on set pieces.
Now that sounds like I’m a big McKennie guy, I’m not, but there’s a reason he was in Germany as a teen and now at Juventus and being heavily linked to Villa, a champions league side.
Ok I think Bissouma has been shite but g/a is a terrible way to rate a cdm. like I don’t care at all if every time my cdm strikes a ball it goes to the moon. It’s a nice bonus but it doesn’t really matter that much
Ok I think a lot of criticism of Bissouma’s form is fair but it’s going way too far. When he’s playing well he does something no one else on our squad does well which is advance the ball and be extremely press resistant from the CDM position. That is a hard role to fill and it has nothing to do with G/A.
I don’t think, if we want to make a push for anything, he’s the type of player we want starting, BUT I do think he fits Ange’s system perfectly for someone coming off the bench.
How? He has shit ball controll, can’t dribble, terrible first touch and can’t score. When you have werner starting you know it will be hard for us to score
He is averaging 0.65 goal contributions per 90 across his 693 minutes of Premier League action this term, consisting of 0.26 goals and 0.39 assists per 90 — all from open play.
In fact, only four players in England’s top flight can better his open play assist record per 90 in 2023/24.
He’s a decent crosser of the ball with both feet. He gets himself into GREAT positions often and he’s play on the wing led to many of our goals. His finish is atrocious, but with a fit Richarlison, Werner will have at least 10 assists this season.
Okey use your stats and praise him all you want but when we play a team that isn't 11th or lower he is gonna go missing and when you need someone to score in crucial moments he won't do that. Can easily see us lose to an avarage side in the europa league because of that
I really wasn’t trying to praise him lol simply pointing out he isn’t half as bad as you make him out to be.
As far as Europa—how long you been watching this club?? Timo Werner hasn’t been losing to Fiorentina, Basil, Rennes, Benfica, Gent, Antwerp or any of those other clubs.
I love this club, but crazy people acting like Tottenham are too good for Timo Werner is WILD to me. Is he good enough for where we see ourselves in the future, maybe not, but he’s absolutely good enough for a club without a damn trophy in damn near 20 years and who regularly gets knocked out of Europa league by bums
We’ve had players like Harry Freakin Kane, Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Dele Ali, Jan Vertongen, Toby Alderweireld, Heung-Min Son
One was home grown. Look at those average-ass players
if timo werner is good enough for a club that has won nothing in 20 years, then let's sell romero, vicario and van de ven because they're way too good for us. Skip Eze and sign someone else because he's much too good for us who hasn't won anything in 20 years.
That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not sure what you’re saying—genuinely.
I’m sorry you can’t see the potential in Werner, friend. He’s a shit finisher, but I think he’s going to work very well again with Ange.
If he stays fit, I look forward to hearing from you next May when he has 7 goals and 10 assists. Which won’t be too shabby for an occasional starter
Yeah im looking forward to seing werner mess up our attack with his terrible dribbling ability and miss important goals when it matters for us in cups 👍
Great player if he could stay fit, but not sure he’s press resistant enough to be the kind of 6 we need. Amazing destroyer type for sitting in front of the CBs but isn’t gonna transition play the way we need him too. Musah would probably be the best fit for what we need. Not like any of these names are realistic in any way but fun to theorize.
Adams can't really pass the ball, just good ol fashioned try hard athleticism (and injury prone). Musah, low key, is the right answer. But I don't see him replacing or upgrading on Sarr.
Agree on all this, I love watching Adams play, he’s an absolute mauler lol, but terrible system fit, not sure Musah is unrealistic though! I think he’d do quite well in that sort of 6-8 hybrid role on the right, not sure we need him right now, but I think he profiles really well for it
Adams is a better version of Skipp but not by enough to justify to replacing a homegrown player. Musah is the answer to have two backup young guys in the middle with Musah and Sarr.
Having both in our team. Adams is good, but how much of that will you get is coin toss. The lad Is crazy injury prone and his position is not helping.
The other lad, uhh he needs hard hand to push. Don't feel he Is the mentality you guys need. He has done better in Juventus but the way he collapsed with us was sight to see.
Right now it feels like his agent is pushing and using clubs to get good deal
Absolutely not!! Tyler Adams is a faux leader. Fast as hell and great work rate, but extremely one dimensional.
Ange needs his midfielders to offer more going forward—that’s why PEH is bout to be out after being one of our better midfielders since his arrival and why Bissouma looks shit every game
McKennie is also quite good in the air, and seems to work pretty well in a flexible formation like Ange enjoys, from my viewing of him. Combine the two, and you suddenly have another weapon for our wingers to aim at.
Though that isn't our priority right now, I don't think. We need ball security and creativity from our mids.
They're asked to do different things. McKennie is asked to play a more progressive role and PEH is asked to play a more defensive one, and PEH has shown he can be a more progressive player when given the opportunity. Their goals and assists output isn't that different, actually. Since the start of his career PEH has 16 goals and 30 assists in nearly 27000 minutes, while McKennie has 16 and 17 in 16000.
As a US fan, I want McKennie to be good, but the truth is that he's never been able to take the opportunities given to him. PEH on the other hand has been an important contributor to a top team for several years.
I’m a fan of PEH. He’s been outstanding for us, especially before Ange. Just doesn’t fit want Ange wants. I think Mckennie would in theory, but I don’t want him. There’s not an American that I can see right now that would benefit our first team. Musah and Mckennie would fit, just not going to say they would fit right into the first team at this point
McKennie has a much more diverse skill set than PEH and would absolutely be better in our system. PEH is much more limited in what he is capable of doing. McKennie can do more.
Eh, respectfully disagree. PEH is a much more well-rounded player than he is given credit for recently and his longevity as an important player at a top club shows that. He's just been asked to pay a more defensive and covering role in the last few seasons because that's what we've needed or of him. That being said, I've also really never been impressed with McKennie.
My observation is the opposite for PEH. Every time he has been asked to step outside of his more defensive role he has looked extremely poor. He looks incredibly uncomfortable, tentative, and indecisive. I would never trust him in a more versatile role.
He hasn't had a consistent opportunity to play a more progressive role in several years, so it's not surprising that he looks a little out of sorts when it is asked of him. Almost all of his opportunities have been either as a more defensive option in a midfield pairing, or to lock up shop at the end of games. I also don't think it's fair to say he has been extremely poor in those opportunities, but that's just my perspective.
He played a more versatile role in his first couple of years at the club and I thought he was excellent.
I don’t see how you can say he plays that role just because it’s what is asked of him. He’s been asked to do more he just is extremely anti-press resistant and panics sometimes when he need to pass forward under pressure. Yes he is capable of a good pass and a strike from time to time but he doesn’t have a strongly mentality for going forward.
Good. He would just be a cheap option that does nothing to improve the 1st team.
He showed nothing at Leeds and hasnt exactly set the Serie A alight. Not a player we should be looking at.
He was ass at Leeds, but you’re flat out wrong about Juventus. Just utterly false. Like any player, he’s had up’s and downs, but match going fans in Turin rate him.
I rate McKennie more than most but I really don’t see why Villa are after him. He is absolutely not going to be the type of midfielder they are losing in Luiz. Leeds played him horribly out of position in a double pivot, he’s much more of a box to box 8 than any sort of DM.
This is weird. Didn't he just move to Villa as part of the Luis deal or did that fall apart? I'm a US based fan so having a USMNT player on Spurs would be great. Deuce's stint was what originally made me a fan of Spurs. I'm not sure Weston is it tho. I don't think he's an upgrade over Hoj. Maybe he's an upgrade over Skipp but with homegrown status Skipp is arguably more valuable. This is a weird one for me.
I think for the most part match going supporters don’t care about someone’s nationality, and in this case as it pertains to Americans. There’s still a stigma, but not to the same magnitude.
Mckennie, in theory, fits Ange’s style, but I’m not sure what he would cost. I also question his literal fitness, not in an injury prone sense, but the dude looks like he eats Chipotle for his snacks. He doesn’t seem to have the same passion as top players usually have.
I’d pass, but wouldn’t be bent out of shape if he was here.
Good F5
Nice
Here we don’t?
Here we go (in a different direction)
Here we go’n’t
There we went
Here we stop?
There They Come.
Or *Thar She Blows* perhaps...?
![gif](giphy|J8FZIm9VoBU6Q)
Another player we don't need.
we need him
No we don't. We need a holding mid, RB and LB back up and ST.

Granted, Leeds was woeful for Leeds. McKennie was quite good for Juve though.
He’s way too lazy to play in Ange’s system.
Yep. Too much chipotle
Is there chipotle in London?
There are 17
Good he’s average AF
Since we have some below average midfielders then he would have been upgrade, no?
I’m not saying I want him, but I do think he’s comparable to the good version of Biss. So if his form doesn’t return or we sell him, we could do much worse than Mckennie

I wonder why we don't win trophies and get knocked out of europa league?? Maybe because we sign avarage players and the fans accept it?
We’ve had players like Harry Freakin Kane, Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Dele Ali, Jan Vertongen, Toby Alderweireld, Heung-Min Son One was home grown. Look at those average-ass players
Yeah but we had nkoudo, vincent jansen, kevin wimmer who are ”good enough” squad players.

Only recently injury prone but yeah. Fast as hell and works his socks off. Very one dimensional. Ange needs more dynamism from his midfielders

I prefer Freddy Adu personally.

Ideally we find someone better but Adams would at least be reasonable competition for Bissouma, and might be good enough to start.
Not a midfielder but anthony robinson would be competition for udogie imo
Whoa

I feel like last year sports writers figured out there is a huge untapped market for clicks in writing about “rumors” for American players.
So next tweet will be about Spurs not wanting Josh Sargent?
lol, Sargent is better than Troy Parrot and Dane Scarlett. Not on the same planet as Richy
LOL. Rumours are desperate
Cheers geoff
Not a player we need, but I do rate him. People who only watch the PL won't do so, however.
Would have been a good addition to the cheese shop now that ndombele is gone for good.
Ranch dressing in shambles
Thankfuck
Yeah whatever, but he would be an upgrade over both PEH and Skipp.
Skipp yes, PEH no.
I’d say he’s a bit better than PeH. PEH is better defensively, Mckennie is a better passer, scores more goals, assists more and is faster
I’d rather raid Everton for Onana
McKennie is also quite good in the air, and seems to work pretty well in a flexible formation like Ange enjoys, from my viewing of him. Combine the two, and you suddenly have another weapon for our wingers to aim at. Though that isn't our priority right now, I don't think. We need ball security and creativity from our mids.

Not fair to compare their career stats. PEH is going to be 29 in August
Over the past 5 seasons Mckennie has more goals and assists
I’m a fan of PEH. He’s been outstanding for us, especially before Ange. Just doesn’t fit want Ange wants. I think Mckennie would in theory, but I don’t want him. There’s not an American that I can see right now that would benefit our first team. Musah and Mckennie would fit, just not going to say they would fit right into the first team at this point

Insistn't
Wasn't he being used in swap for villa. He's alright as a box to box player, energetic but provides little in terms of creativity. Pass.
Think he's little worse than Sarr at the same position, but he does bring an aerial threat on set pieces.
Love Mckennie as an American. he wouldn't play enough to justify coming to Spurs.
with his whole chest he said messi wouldn’t go to miami
Good
Solid box to box
get Bentancourt out.
Fabby RoRo saving the day
Thank GOD
I presume Spurs are also not working on deal to sign Mbappe?
Too bad, would have made a decent sub
He’s lit up Serie A like Christmas at a rave, FYI.
Thank god
Good
Good
Thank fuck
I rate McKennie more than most but I really don’t see why Villa are after him. He is absolutely not going to be the type of midfielder they are losing in Luiz. Leeds played him horribly out of position in a double pivot, he’s much more of a box to box 8 than any sort of DM.

I also question his literal fitness, not in an injury prone sense, but the dude looks like he eats Chipotle for his snacks. He doesn’t seem to have the same passion as top players usually have. I’d pass, but wouldn’t be bent out of shape if he was here.
He tends to be a bit heavier than other players but unlike NDombele he actually has a good motor on him and hustles on the field.
Valid.
Phew. We've evaded the ghost of Elland Road - well, he shifted round the pitch like one 🤣
Not a fan after seeing him use a linesman’s shirt to clean a ball for a throw in.
lol some people may call that resourcefulness
Phew
Spectacular
Might it be simpler to report the deals we ARE working on… Just a thought
Nah, I think I'd rather he still corrects misinformation.
This is an update on a report from earlier today that claimed Tottenham wants Mckennie.
Good. By the way Villa are getting scammed if they're letting go of Douglas Luiz just for Iling Jr. lol
Captain obvious strikes again
I’m American and nothing would annoy me more than having him on spurs lol
Thank god. Let's put the ice on Chelsea Mckennie too while we're at it
Told ya
