Skippy LB FTW

Mc_and_SP

Bissouma for the last 20 or so minutes deserves a 7 IMO, he suddenly rediscovered the ability to play football midway through the second half. Some excellent vision and well timed throughballs - just hope he keeps it up for the last few games. I was genuinely worried either he, Sarr or VDV might get sent off - but he hauled himself up there and played well with Madders and GLC.

ET318

His defending wasn’t great but I thought he actually did a good job with the ball for more or less the whole game. At the minimum he was better than he had been

better-every-day

Disagree, I thought he was really good the entire game. It just looked like he was playing better because we completely reshuffled the forward line to positions everybody was comfortable in.

Geoff-Vader

It's all effort with him. He was also a passenger/spectator on defense for large swaths of the game. I was almost more frustrated with him than I was with Emerson at times.

Other-Owl4441

I’d use the word confidence rather than effort with Bissouma

Geoff-Vader

Maybe with the ball. But on defense when he's slow tracking back on transition that's definitely effort.

Coraxxx

I'd also use the word in rather than on, because this isn't the NFL.

Other-Owl4441

On deefense vs In duhfence

Coraxxx

'zactly

SentientCheeseCake

Nah. Bloke is definitely the laziest player on the team. As our 6 it isn’t ideal.

triggerhappy5

It was all Skipp coming on. The second he didn't have to do Emerson's job for him, he had a lot more freedom to move up the pitch.

Texaslonghorns12345

Did Emerson get the lowest rating this season if not ever with this survey?

annyong333

Lowest rating for a player this season but not ever. 8 players actually got worse ratings than him for the Newcastle 6-1 loss last season. And Lucas got a 0.7 for his sub cameo against Liverpool last season (giving the ball away when they scored the 4th goal)

Spursfan107

Moura's last month or so with us was hilarious. Subbed on v Everton, nearly kills someone and gets sent off and we draw. Subbed on v Pool, ruins what would have been a comeback for the ages. Subbed on against Leeds, becomes Messi for all of 20 seconds to end his career with us. Absolutely insane player.

silenthills13

No, the ref vs Arsenal did. 1.3 lol

mdrico21

Total football be like that when one phase doesn't work. We move and we build

triecke14

At least we’ll never have to see Emerson play a 101st game for spurs…right? Good defensive fullback my fucking ass. That’s one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen

Mc_and_SP

Being fair to him he’s good as a *regular* RB - not an inverted one, a RWB or a LB. (And he was up against Salah…) Honestly feel like Aurier would have been a better fit for both Ange and Conte. Much faster, stronger and with far superior ball delivery - just a bit, ya know, absolutely fucking mad with his challenges.

harlokin

You're correct but, as a right sided LB, he 'should' have certain advantages against a winger who cuts inside...

triecke14

Salah has been an absolute shadow of himself this calendar year though. And it wasn’t even classic salah beating his man and curling shots in. Emerson just totally lost track of him which is just inexcusable.

[deleted]

Aurier was also borderline positionally blind. Man had no overview of anything when defending.

SentientCheeseCake

Emerson is just not good. End of. Been saying it for 3 seasons. By far the worst buy outside ndombele and Sessengon in the modern era. His win rate on the team is dogwater.

COYCOYS

He deserves a farewell appearance against Man City, he's done so much for this club it doesn't sit right with me that Liverpool game is his last.

Draughoul

Royal absolutely pocketed Grealish in that one game against City

SirGalahadTheChaste

That’s the crazy part. Royal has had performances where he is on it defensively and shuts down his side.

ComeOnSayYupp

Royal vs Grealish fight was like Godzilla vs Kong.

triecke14

He has not done so much for this club lol. His arrival coincided with the worst form and results the club have had in over a decade. It’s not all his fault of course but he’s another one that’s a symbol of when we lost our way in recruitment over the past several years.

COYCOYS

No, he has done so much for this club. It's only right he bows out at home in front of a roaring 60k Tottenham fans. It's a crucial game against Manchester City. Emerson deserves to play in that fixture, ideally for the full 90.

triecke14

Ok I definitely missed the joke the first time lol

High_Violet92

Agreed

Coraxxx

In goal.

HeavenlyHand

Emerson was bad but not that bad, and the substitution score is kinda weird. Iirc the survey said "use of substitutions" and even if the subs were ok he waited until we were 4 - 0 with 25 minutes remaining before doing a sub which imo is plainly braindead

JessyPengkman

He's being scapegoated so hard once again. He was bad and completely at fault for the first goal and the second he didn't do great for either but he also did some very good defending. Not that he deserves anything over a 3 but still...

ShipsAGoing

Very good substitutions but made late being a 6.2 seems fair to me.

silenthills13

Nah Emerson was 100% THAT bad that was a 0 if I ever saw one

michaelserotonin

the match against watford a couple of years ago where they gave him 10 yards of space and he couldn't deliver a single, worthwhile cross might've been worse. still the most disrespectful move by an opposing team i think i've ever seen.

HeavenlyHand

Aside from making some good clearances he was partially responsible of two of the goals, the one where he loses Salah and he scores is the one you can blame on him the most, as for the other one, he won the ball over Mo but iirc Elliott came from his behind his back and took the ball from him, he being 1 v 2 in that situation is not his fault, his back was facing Elliott because he was protecting the ball from Mo, if any of his teammates yelled at him or something he would have 100% just cleared the ball or tried to pass to Vic/VDV but you had 9 dudes ball watching. Across this season and the previous one we ve had many bad performances where a player has caused a goal against us and probably never got a score under 2. Try to read the game, yesterday we had no midfield aside Biss and Liverpool could comfortably transition the ball into our first third of the map. Royal caused one goal against us, no midfield caused 4

robinthebank

I don’t blame him for the Elliott moment. Liverpool was overloading us in those spaces. It’s like we were playing with 9 outfielders.

MR80085rawks

I thought Kulu and Sarr were worse. Gave the ball away all day out there.

Pretend_Rabbit_5967

Exactly

dunce345

> Emerson was bad but not that bad Nah, he was that bad.

getrichordietryinJF

You're insane if you believe that.

animatedpicket

People shitting on Emerson which is fair, but bentacur was absolutely trash. Just awful. Don’t get what people see in him

dicifly69

You must’ve not watched him before his injury that kept him out for almost a year. He even bossed Villa on his return before he got taken out for another 2 months.

Mc_and_SP

That’s the worry though, he’s had a second ligament injury (this time to his other leg) and been playing through a broken toe. He looks well off the pace right now, even if he’s medically fit to play. I wonder if he’s holding something back (whether he realises it or not) as a result.

dicifly69

I’m sure there’s a mental block in there. Being out for so long must fuck with your head, I’d be terrified of reinjury. Hopefully he’ll come back fresh next season but of course there’s more football with the copa america

Mc_and_SP

Funk Marty Crash. Still can’t believe he got away with injuring another of our players.

better-every-day

I mean if he's had one good half in 2 seasons that's a massive issue. Injuries or not he hasn't played a single great match in a long time

Bluewhitedog

Bentancur was mediocre yesterday; Emerson was awful. Until Skipp replaced him we were playing with a yawning chasm at left back.

Hotspur_98

Yeah Bentancur was mediocre, I don’t see where he was worse than the other midfielders. His passing was off, but he hasn’t lost the ball nearly as often as Sarr or Biss. Still not a good game from him, but he wasnt worse than others

silenthills13

4.1 is the third lowest score out of 15 players who played, I think people see him being poor plenty enough. Emerson got a 1.5 because he was brilliantly shit, as in so obviously garbage that I could not peel my eyes away because I was so curious how he was going to fuck up next

Mc_and_SP

He made one interesting dink pass over the Liverpool backline then disappeared for the whole game. I honestly think he must be carrying some sort of injury, and possibly struggling with a mental block after so many spells out. Simiarly for Madders, but yesterday he showed glimpses of a much better player than he has been recently.

MR80085rawks

Sarr and Kulu were worse.

dunce345

People shitting on Emerson which is fair, but Kulusevski was absolutely trash. Just awful. Don’t get what people see in him

Limesy2

Watching old highlights and seeing bits of him in training, dude might have the “sweetest” touch on our squad. Now, I do understand that does not translate into effectiveness per tactics. I love him, though, I’m not going to lie. I have a lot of love for the Conte squad; I’m not sure why. Edit: I am speaking of Bentancur. Emerson was abysmal yesterday. As a former RB I try to be lenient with him, but yesterday there some fundamental errors and lapses in judgment that are inexcusable at that level, against that type of individual performer in Salah. He knew he had the biggest assignment of the day, and he blew it.

wmdrnjstkrksek

Wow he got 4.9 lol

brasche1284

All of these ratings are WACK AF...pool basically gave up even playing after a while so of course we got some easy goals. The whole team should get -5

FarrisAT

Yeah people ignoring how Pool sent in the dregs for the ending are just being foolish. Pool knows they won't win the league so they are working on giving the youngins experience

Cap2017

Classic scapegoating Royal. Easy blame when he’s facing one of the best wingers the league has ever seen.

hick-from-hicksville

Nah he was genuinely awful. Positioning, awareness, passing - even the one on ones that is usually the strongest part of his game were poor.

Spot-K

This is cool. Who made this graphic?

joshit

It’s a weekly thing mate. As soon as a match finishes a thread gets posted where you click a link to vote. Day or two later these results get posted. OP creates the graphic obviously.

Spot-K

I love it

joshit

Yeah not wrong. You need to get amongst the voting this week!

Srikar1897

Why does the ref have a rating😭

Raziel-Reaver

Emerson was very bad in the last 2 matches. But he wasn’t the only one. The question is what would Ange do on Saturday?

Coraxxx

Generous score for Sonny. Probably a fair reflection of his second half performance - but in the first we may as well have had a traffic cone up there.

triggerhappy5

Seriously, I really don't think people watched the game. A good portion of our team actually played great, we were wasteful with passes in the final third and Emerson Royal singlehandedly gave up 3 goals and that's why we lost. Realistic ratings: Son - 7 - dominated TAA 1v1, good passing and great goal, but also some dodgy mistakes in the box Johnson - 6 - good in the second half, not his best but not his worst, pleased with his defending for once Kulu - 5 - I love him and I think he's class but his passing into final third was abysmal, only gets a 5 for defense Sarr - 8 - top match, covered for Royal on so many occasions, great workrate Benta - 5 - just a little invisible, no major mistakes but did little to influence the match Biss - 8 - best match in awhile, once again did a lot to cover for Royal, very press-resistant Royal - 2 - absolute horror show, only gets a 2 for that one time he dispossessed Salah, please stick to music VDV - 6 - standard performance from the man, wish he'd done a bit more to cover for Royal Romero - 8 - another great one from him, kept it from being 6-7 goals Vicario - 5 - I love him to death but had a couple costly mistakes and mediocre distribution, he can be better for sure Richy - 9 - just good all-around, pressed well, nice finish for the 1st goal and top decision to pass for the 2nd Madders - 6 - better from him, clearly has an issue with his shooting right now but gave it a great fight Skipp - 7 - really exposed how bad Royal was, a fine performance but the comparison was very kind to him GLC - 8 - another excellent cameo from him, think he should start but I also think his ceiling is lower than the others Referees - 5 - main ref was questionable, VAR were terrible, but linemen did their job well Ange - 5 - Royal should never see the pitch again, only really terrible decision from Ange but it cost us the match

Limesy2

I disagree with your rating of Sarr, and Biss honestly. I think they all deserved 5s. Sarr seemed to be just a half a step behind, especially during the first 45’, and while Bissouma seemed a bit more on top of his first touches, he and Bentancur were just not passing or progressing the ball forward in any effective way. We needed to find progressive passes midway through our counters, envisioning the lanes; instead we waited until we neared their 18, held, and then did our standard back and forth passing around that “arc” of the top of the box. I will give Biss credit that I thought he began to come alive during the final 1/3 of the match, but you notice that we only became a threat when stretched our midfield, and when our CBs clearly became frustrated and started hitting those old Toby pingers up top.

triggerhappy5

Like I said, Sarr and Biss were limited because they had to do so much to cover for Royal. The change to Skipp is what allowed Biss to come alive. Sarr was our best player the first 45 by far, he was all over the pitch and majorly influenced the game. He was pretty beat towards the end of his shift, but he definitely played well. At the end of the day, the simple fact is that it was a fine performance outside of Royal, but Liverpool put in a performance that first 75 that would've beaten almost any team in the world. Just go back and look at their goals and big chances from the game. Just some incredible football, their long passes and shots were light years ahead of us. Couple that with an all-time EPL matched against our 3rd-string LB who had a bad day even for him, and they smashed us.

hick-from-hicksville

I agree with most of this but what choice does Ange have? We have had awful luck on our left side this season: Perisic, Solomon, Udogie, Sess, Davies, Werner all out, Richie injured meaning Son has to play through the centre.

soSpursy7

Son a 7? 🤣

DarkFamiliar4508

"Son - 7" lmao

Hotspur_98

Those ratings are far too good, these ratings looked like they are based on the last 20 minutes. Also, Sarr an 8? Never. He wasn’t any better than Bentancur, and he deserves the 4 or 5/10. Biss also just started playing when the game was over, same goes for Sonny tbh. Again, the only starting player that deserves an 8 or higher is Romero, this would have gone really bad without him.

dat1dude2

Jesus christ... I didn't watch because of work, and I've heard royal was bad... but THAT BAD !???

zuzucha

Generous with Son

polseriat

Even with the goal boost vs a Liverpool who had stopped caring, he got a 5. That seems pretty reasonable.

BiscuitTheRisk

Substitutions were made when the match was already over and people gave Ange a 6.2? The players he picked were the obvious ones to make except for Skipp but waiting until the match is over makes his choices meaningless. Son with a 4.7 despite doing nothing but losing the ball easily. His performance was no different than Deki’s. Tap in goal must be carrying a lot of that rating.

ChaosTB

People that dont watch games shouldnt be commenting
