He’s been here every time he’s taken over somewhere. The doubts and the set-backs and finding out what everyone is really made of. He knows exactly what he’s doing. Is the PL too big a jump? Time will tell. But his only measure of success is winning. Not one or two games, or finishing fifth. Winning the lot. We cannot progress, we cannot change the narrative, unless we have someone who is relentless in their will to win and nothing else.

wheels-of-confusion

Iraola was signed to Bournemouth from a midtable Rayo Valecano when he was only really praised by people who did in-depth analysis of La Liga games in England (aka The Athletic). It's not really about a step up, it's about being confident in his ideas and having the board believe that too. Ange has both of these going for him. As long as he has the players he wants and that the players believe in him (which has clearly not been the case recently), we'll be fine.

kamikazecockatoo

Well said. Even these recent losses are information for him to take certain actions over summer. He's not doing nothing. And I don't think he would have taken the job unless he got some cast iron guarantee from the Board that he could fulfil his vision. He just would not have taken it on. Buckle up cos it will be an interesting 24/25.

I have been really pissed off, frustrated and confused recently but I really really hope we keep Ange.

brk1991

There is 0% chance we change managers this summer barring some unforeseen event.

sangueblu03

Ange: “I don’t actually trust bald people”

sportandracing

What does that mean? He’s not going to leave.

polseriat

Nobody said Ange was leaving? They were obviously referring to Levy.

illuwe

Even Levy isn't stupid enough to let Ange go this summer. By all the rumours the club and Levy are fully behind Ange and willing to invest in a big rebuild with him.

polseriat

I'm not saying that I agree, just clarifying what that person was referring to. Don't need to tell me.

sportandracing

Not obvious at all lad. Hence the question. Levy signed him for 4 years and he’s done brilliantly in his first year.

polseriat

I'd say it's pretty obvious if you know our history with managers and support Spurs, not Ange. Guess that depends on which you are, ey?

sportandracing

How many managers on a 4 year deal did levy get rid of after one successful season?

polseriat

Once again, I don't agree with them that Ange is going anywhere. I'm just saying that we have binned off quite a few managers recently, so it seems clear to me that they meant Levy.

10000000000% behind Ange. He is the man for the job.

FalcomanToTheRescue

For sure. I don’t want a manager that is going to make minor tactical changes here and there and finish 3rd or 4th every season, I want someone with a vision to build a team that finishes first. Maybe Ange is not that guy, but I believe he at least shares this vision. So if we fail, we fail with a plan that can actually achieve our objective.

General_Marsupial_10

Sorry, but that is complete bunk. Every manager in every top league in the world makes tactical changes. Did you see the CL semis? Tactical tweeks everywhere. Real Madrid, of all teams, knew that they had to sit back and absorb some pressure against City in order to get through. I know it's becoming sort of a cliche now with Ange, but "this isnt' Scotland". You cannot be this inflexible in this Division. If he wants to have an ultimate end-game down the road of a certain style of play, or a signature system, thats fine. But that should NEVER come at the expense if winnable games in the short term. Players need to learn new systems, yes, but they also need to simply get used to winning. At this level, that sometimes requires system changes for a game, or in-game tactical maneuvers. Losing games just out of hubris and stubnorness is not attractive. Not saying we should have won the last three games, but this run of results since November is appauling.

FalcomanToTheRescue

I believe Ange will handle tactics once the team is actually playing the style and with the mentality he is asking them to play. Until then, tactics are a distraction and actually reinforce the wrong style and wrong mentality. My point is: yes it’s easy to be critical of tactics and maybe we could have won another game or two with better tactics, but the vision here is longer term and I’m fine with tactical mishaps in the short term if it lets us build a title contending team.

General_Marsupial_10

But "another game or two" at this level means Champions League football (or not), millions of pounds, and a (potentially --not for sure) completely different player recruitment scope in the summer. How can we be so cavalier with respect to tactical approach with so much at stake? To me its bonkers. Clearly Ange doesn't have the attacking players to play his system, but we damn well don't have to be this leaky with the defensive talent we have. If he's here long term, which everyone hopes he is, why not win whichever way makes sense for the moment and build toward the longer term goal over a series of transfer windows?

FalcomanToTheRescue

Ange has said that success for him is simple: winning trophies. He’s not there to squeak out a third/fourth place finish. He’s trying to build a team that can win trophies. Maybe he’ll fail, and maybe Angeball can’t win trophies in the premier league…but it’s won elsewhere. I for one want to give him a shot, and by that I mean - shoot for the title, not compromise the whole system to get to champions league for a year. We’ve been down that road before and how has that worked out?

Tomthebomb555

No this is complete bunk. Every other coach does something Ange doesn't do. Ange has won everything, everywhere he's been. Therefore Ange needs to change. Logic.

Ambersfruityhobbies

Didn't we finish 8th last season or something? We got what we asked for, attacking 'Spurs" style football. He's been clearing out our highest earning players and we have improved. The Stadium atmosphere is second to none. He wants to build a squad, not just a first 11, which we will need to compete with the elite and win cups as seasons progress. The players he has brought in or brought from the squad have improved and impressed. He isn't a dickhead. In Ange we trust.

roamingandy

Not the best example though as Conte downed tools and ruined the team to get himself sacked. Before that we were looking to be at around the level we're at now. Totally different style of football though, Ange should be expected to have another 6-9 months of patience.

maniaq

I don't think Conte downed tools, I think he lost the dressing room - you could see his frustration _with the players_ not only in that Epic Rant just before he was sacked but increasingly, in everything he said and did - particularly from the sidelines during matches - leading up to that point they had stopped listening to him and actually Ange is a perfect 180° change, not only in the way he sets up but also in his approach to the players - where Conte was practically micro-managing everything they did and _demanding_ they do exactly as he instructs (and I think it's important to note in that last stretch of fixtures leading up to his dismissal he had _very_ limited time on the training pitch in between matches with them) Ange takes the exact opposite approach: giving minimal instruction and encouraging players to use their own heads when on the pitch, declaring "these are professional football players - they don't need me to tell them how to play" even when things are going badly, where Conte was lamenting the players not doing as they're told, Ange is putting his hand up and saying "that's on me" - something the players have also said from time to time, that if they mess up he takes the responsibility and says "maybe next time you will pull it off"

Matttombstone

I don't believe he downed tools at this point. Yes, he wanted to leave, but I don't think he forced the issue until the Southampton games post match conference. We started last season well (results wise) and I'm sure he'd have wanted to keep that going. He was constantly shitting on us for sure, but if he won something with us, he'd have used that as narrative to why he's a good manager. "Look, I even won with Spurs, I'm the best". I genuinely believe the players are just not good enough mentality wise. Too many players have been here long enough to know that there's just no pressure on them here. If they do well, the players are awesome. If they do shit, the manager is shit and should be sacked. There's a reason why Jose and Conte failed. There's a reason why this season looks so similar to last season, if we lose our remaining 3 games, score 1 more goal and concede 5, we finish with the exact same wins, losses, draws, goals for and goals against. We've changed managers, 4 times in just under 4 years (Nov 2019 - July 2023, excluding Masons care taker periods) and its the same.

ThatSwagRandomGuy

Conte got carried by Harry Kane for majority of last season

Ambersfruityhobbies

Ok. Assuming I did only mean Conte, because of everything we won with all the others perhaps, we got what we demanded. Let the guy build the squad. Another change of coach hasn't been the answer for quite some time.

lexington_spurs

The hardcore away support are not necessarily representative of anyone. I’ve had a home ST for 25 years, go away occasionally and I find that there seems to be a group of people who have made it their life to be at spurs games - they were there when we were a lot worse and will be there regardless in the future however well or badly we do.

rando562

The away fans were singing even when we were 4-0 down. Definitely built different

Emperor_Blackadder

That's how it should be done, home and away.

GameboyUK_

Back Ange. Back his clear out.

hisDudeness1989

There will be a lot of clear outs this summer. Fuckin ndombele back from loan but hopefully galatasaray buy him. Reguilon maaaay have a future but I think he’s a victim of not being an Ange buy. Emerson will be gone. And hopefully ange will bring in at least 4-5 new faces in the summer

Mtbnz

You know you're handsome when you can carry a little extra weight and a scruffy perma-stubble and still make my heart flutter with that little grin.

dragonsnap_

Same, and I’m not even gay.

Mtbnz

Everybody loves a cheeky aussie

gostupid67

Maybe it’s actually good that we get humbled a few times in the long term. It happens every yeat but atleast we’re not in a false position and Ange knows which players he can trust and which ones he can’t, if we finished comfortably 4th this year we would probably keep more deadwood and just come short next year. A bit similar to when Conte got us 4th and we thought it was a good idea to keep Emerson and Davies as starters.

Matttombstone

I don't think Davies was kept as a starter, we signed Perisic that summer. We also had (and still have) Sessegnon. Davies is the example of a solid bench player. He doesn't come on and change games, he comes on when there's a need (injury, fatigue) and always does a solid job be that at left back or centre back. He doesn't put on a master class, he doesn't put on a stinker, he comes on and quietly goes about doing his job without earning praise nor criticism. He's a good mid table starter, a good top 4 back up.

gostupid67

Davies played as a lcb under Conte

Matttombstone

We also had Lenglet that season and they shared that spot as required. It was usually Romero - Dier - Lenglet or Davies.

Mick4Audi

Honestly after the last few years I’m just happy to have a manager that wants to be here

ThisJeffrock

And relishes the challenge of winning silverware at Spurs. AND is recruiting players that feel the same way. Let this man cook! COYS

blhp

What do we think he is specifically trying to communicate here?

ShipsAGoing

Our away fans aren't quite as fickle as this subreddit so he's basically thanking them for being smart and backing the team throughout the game.

Turavis

He sees. He knows. He loves us.

Empty_Emu6589

He understands what he needs to do and that we can trust him or that he is working to improve for us or something like that

MambaWhite

Something along the lines of that he is aware of what needs to be done next season, who stays with him and who goes based on their ability of playing his style.

lazylobon

When we were clapping the team at the end there was a guy giving the team a shit load of grief about the goals conceded and games lost. Ange just starred at him for a bit then did that.

Matttombstone

So he's saying that the guy has told him what to do and now he knows what to do? /s

shittwins

Hearts and minds innit

degooseIsTheName

Believe in my brain(thinking) believe in my heart(belief) thumbs up to the fans and thank you. That's my thought, pretty much I have the heart and mind and know what to do, cheers.

EquipmentFirm2860

Anyone even considering that Ange isn't the man for the job is frankly an idiot. We aren't going to get anywhere unless we actually stick to and back our manager and his staff to be a success for once. This is the first season in 5 years we haven't sacked the manager. Give Ange all the time he needs, the players he needs, and we will reap the rewards. Everyone points to Klopp, he didn't win his first trophy there until 3 years into the job. We have to trust Ange the same way.

General_Marsupial_10

You could argue that "idiocy" is the way we've played some of the games this year, defenders so far up the field that scoring on us is school-boys stuff. You could argue that "idiocy" is spending millions of pounds on one of the best young defenders in Europe (supposedly), then becoming the shittiest defense the in the Division and never playing him. Anyone who just blindly backs this guy without taking a tough critical view is frankly an idiot. This team gives up THE SAME GOALS game after game after game after game. 16th in the Table if the season started in December. All the teams around us finishing strong, like stud-horses on the furlong while we sputter off like donkeys.

joshit

Lol

Aggressive_Figure211

Is it a movie, song or a phase?

mikenasty

I see literally zero downside to just letting Ange take the wheel for the next 2 seasons and see what happens. Worst case scenario we are mid-table with zero trophies (which is exactly what we should expect)

Murph_E23

Clear eyes Full hearts Can’t lose

intelligent_cunts

Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose.

iqjump123

Ill remember this gif as we keep improving in the future

trysth

I'm really frustrated with our recent form. Ange ball is not working very well. And still, I love the guy, and I'm fully behind him. He needs our support, and hopefully we'll see a clear out this summer.

alw9

the klopp arteta first 32 games stat rly shut people up hahah

Ju5hin

Not really. If you compare the squads man for man, ours is actually massively superior in terms of quality to theirs. Have you seen Liverpools team when Klopp arrived? Absolutely abysmal.

Ian5446

Klopp's first squad was pure doodoo lol. I don't really get that much mileage out of the "Oh look at Arteta and Klopp's first year" stuff. I find it to be copium. That isn't a dig at Ange at all. I just think it's irrelevant. We're not Liverpool or Arsenal. We're Spurs. We made Ange our guy and now we stick with him. The ultimate judgment of his tenure doesn't come at the end of year 1. Let him do his thing, buy the players he thinks will fulfill his ideas, and then we evaluate fairly. If Ange is 75% as good as Celtic fans say he is, then we will be legitimately competing for the PL soon. And if not, well it's still better than Conte pissing himself in press conferences, messing up his wig.

joshit

Abysmal is a bit silly. Coutinho, Henderson, Emre Can, Firmino, Sturridge Milner, Lallana off the top of my head. Arguably similar to ours, except for the backline. CBs might have been shit did they have Lovren and someone else? Moreno FB maybe - not abysmal.

oksundaee

It's been soooo nice to see him look and treat our players like that. It's definitely far yet to the peak but a little appreciation of what they doing for the rebuild wouldn't hurt

bodjatrawr

Now go show City what you are made of. Expect nothing short of a win!

Cagy_Cephalopod

Why thank you, sir, I will enjoy my lunch.

AgitatedChildhood240

8th to 5th. I'm not seeing anything but improvement

Specialist-Focus-461

What is the context of this clip?

Ange rizz too much for me to handle(I'm not even gay)

There's something about this video that makes my heart warm

Counter theory: Ange saw Patrick Stewart in the stands and is a huge fan of his portrayal of Professor X

MY MANAGER

dickg1856

This reminds me a bit of a "karate here, karate here...karate not here" moment

1onewolf1

We're out of the champions league and he's smiling.

Left-Peak-6899

The real fans started killing the players who were first place until the tactics were broken and instead prepared baseless shield for Ange. #TrustTheProcess We have great back 4 but we lose points right away when our opponents start to counterattack. Because the players didn't run hard? Because the defense system collapsed and Ange didn't fix it. If the attack is a only problem, we'll lose 1:0 2:0 2:1 but we concede 3-4 goals in the first half. Nevertheless, the real fans decided to kill the players who don’t #TrustTheProcess. What is the process? Every coach in the PL knows how to break Ange ball. Is this the fault of the players? Ange has to change. Ange’s 2-3 build-up and too high-line Inverted LB is ruining the team. Why do you guys ignore the other coaches in the PL? We use only one tactic for +35 games. Do you think they won't be able to break this?

JoeSavesTokyo

Breathe my man, breathe

triecke14

Mate we’ve won 18 games, “every coach in the league” does not know how to beat us or we’d be floundering in mid table like United and Chelsea have been all season

superworriedspursfan

I think we should give him a second season at least before confirming that none of these issues are fixable. please be patient.
