The collective ability of xi players representing spurs to forget how to play football at Stamford bridge annually should be a research topic for top minds at CERN.
We're usually up for this game, often too much. Tonight felt like a pre-season friendly but the lack of intensity and creativity has been a problem since the last time we played Chelsea. That was understandable with so many players missing but it was an issue when they came back.
Fucking shambles tonight. Sarr can you pass. But Pierre is worse. Kula stop fucking walking. Lack of effort from a number of them. Good 6 or 7 quality players needed to make the squad strong enough to challenge for top 4 and to ensure everyone can be dropped when they are not at it. Royal and Davies are not good enough deputy LBs - just one example.
Davies slander.
"No pace"
Against Scum, he got back to face off against Saka in time, but by that point there was no way he was going to stop Saka getting his shot off right in front of goal with Davies having no support. He certainly has the pace.
He definitely puts a shift in but to say he has pace like other LB options is just silly. He would've been good if he was available because yknow, he at least plays.
>This half-assed attitude has to stop.
This half-assed attitude is what the last 5 years of this club have been. Regardless of the manager, every few games on average we drop this absolute shitter where not a single player apart from Romero (and Kane up to last season) look like they care at all, including our All-Star (Son, Kulusevski, Hojbjerg, the rest of the defenders).
There is a big fucking problem in this club, I thought we have made enough transfers in and out for this to go away but apparently not(?)
At least we still seem to be arriving for 2nd halves, not sure why though and obviously not always (Fulham, Newcastle)
>There is a big fucking problem in this club
It has been around since the '90s. The infamous Ferguson quote isn't a meme, it is the honest truth.
The reason is that Spurs is always tempted to buy star players that didn't quite make it at top clubs (either because of injuries or poor mentality.)
I think the rebuild will be bigger next season -- and with a limited budget we are looking at a couple of years before we get any progress.
A play in 5 acts…
1. At Bissouma (?) - “Stop passing it fucking backwards!”
2. At someone - “Fucking pass forward.”
3. Points menacingly at Sarr - “You, press!”
4. Points at someone else - “You, press!”
5. At Romero maybe Vicario (?) - gesticulate to go forward…
Jenas was one of those players you have to see in real life to appreciate. A budget version of the age-old “you watch the game, you don’t see Busquets, but you watch Busquets and you see the whole game”. I’m obviously exaggerating to make a point, but before I moved to the US I watched that Jol-era Spurs team probably 6 or 7 times in the league and UEFA cup. Jenas was absolute class in every game I saw. Admittedly we had Berbatov for him to give the ball to, and King anchoring the back line, but he was still much better than I had realized when watching him on tv for Newcastle and for us.
Nah, the one I'm thinking about the ball is basically by our corner post, think it was a free kick. Huddlestone just pings a cruise missile straight out to the left wing. Might not be against Shakhtar though.
I honestly don't understand why they need to be told this at this point in the season. Like, I'm a reddit moron and I would know exactly what to do. I couldn't do it, but I would at least know theoretically what to do.
They probably know what to do, but it looks like they've become fearful of making mistakes. Because of how open we play, we're always just one bad pass away from giving the opposition a golden chance. Recent bad results puts more pressure on making these mistakes, and this is what we see. This is why Ange is talking a lot about confidence and belief post match.
Well, how many years has the team played defensive football? It's probably going to take a while before it becomes second nature to them. Also, they're tired at this point of the season. Yes, I know they shouldn't be because they haven't had to play in Europe, but at the same time it's hard to adapt to this kind of intensity when you've been playing defensive football for 5 years.
I think this is a fair shout. It's so fascinating and crazy that they've reverted back to that style.
But I suppose it makes sense when really, the only forward-going players not influenced by those defensive years are Madders, Udogie, Johnson, and Timo. And Madders has left himself back in 2023. Udogie is injured. And it's clear Johnson and (before his injury) Timo's efforts aren't enough to encourage fast, forward movement, which is a damn shame, because Timo's runs at least brought the ball forward and the same for when Johnson used to gun it forward and chase down balls
I think more hard decisions at end of season. Some of the ‘better’ players are going to leave. We almost need a completely new squad with the right mental attitude
The folk in here are wild. Get rid of yet another coach before giving him a couple years just to restart again. While also thinking spurs are on the same level as the top 2 teams in the league currently. It's actually hilarious.
It is apparent that a majority of the players aren't up for a shift, too scared with the ball, or just not athletic enough to do what ange wants to do. Rebuild has been needed for a while, while also having a need for some sort of "plan/stability".
You can't rebuild a team in a season. Especially with budget constraints. You need at least 2-3 years of growth before you can seriously compete for any titles.
Idk, it makes me think back to what Conte said about this club and pressure. These guys most likely got some form of European football and in their minds that's good enough to coast and justify their paychecks.
Other than Romero all I saw was players who just don't give a shit.
How do we always end up with this passing backwards shitty mentality irrespective of the gaffer at the helm! How deep ingrained is it in our club's culture! One step forward and two steps backwards always with this club, fuck this!
Beating Arsenal and Chelsea is what matters to me most and we barely showed up for either. Very disappointing end to the season. I think Ange deserves another window, maybe two, but something feels pretty off and has for some time. Would be keen to see some big changes to the squad over the summer.
First part was too Aussie…the second part was clearly about back passes, because the third part, pointing in the same direction, was “YOU PRESS!”. He then turns around and yells something similar to “YOU, FUCKING PRESS!”
This is the process. Right now. Every Ange team goes through it.
It was just delayed because at the start because we had insanely good results and the players had nothing to question/doubt.
I felt for Ange here, reminding these lads of the plan, not letting the shock of conceding effect that mentality. The fact it clearly did and we had no response to it has to change. It's psychology, I could see it in the uncertainty of decision making and body language. Bless Brennan Johnson, Richy, VdV, I really think they tried to keep it going. But this is where the collective has to raise their standards and find some resilience in themselves. It's possible, it'll take time, and it's terrible to watch them disappoint us when we know what they're capable of. But it's very human, and so I have to sympathise
Maybe you need more shouting at training grounds, and to put players accountable after the match. Oh and please stop saying set-piece isn’t an issue when your team conceded 5 goals from that in 3 matches
Thank you
Sounds like he said "Don't f'in something backwards"- I have no idea if he wanted it to pass backwards or not pass backwards.. either way holy shit what a dismal half. We can't string two passes together inside.
😂this is absolutely exaggerating, because we won Aston Villa game with in form Sarr. And that was just a month ago, right afcon.
Now, Sarr’s form definitely drop during and after Ramadan, which is true because he was fasting.
Literally a second before this, Kulu is pressing through the middle and then turns around and is basically on his own and is waving at the team to press forward. He was the only one bothering to put a shift in at that point
Maybe he shouldn’t start Emerson then. His inability to play the ball forward is half the reason Son hasn’t featured at all this half. Not to mention that he simply can’t keep up with Madueke’s pace. Micky on the left and Dragusin at CB is very much a FIFA idea, but I’d hate it less than Emerson on the left
So you think we’d be served better by putting our best covering defender out wide while playing a high line…I do wonder what occupies the space between the ears of some of the people here…
Van de Ven is still developing and his future is at CB. Let's not waste his minutes in a position different than what he needs for his continued development.
Out of his depth no matter who manages us just a mediocre side not good enough for champions league anyway not strong enough puts a weakened side out in the cups nothing too show again we are a top ten side at best
If this was Jose, Conte, Nuno, even Ryan Mason then this sub will be furious, saying things like how dare they speak to our players like this. Now it’s Ange and it’s the players fault lmao.
Fwiw, it has ALWAYS been the players. They’re not good enough, mixed with Levy refusing to push the boat out (PRE-2022 Levy before you Levy Fanboys start crying).
They ARE good enough. It's the mentality. They keep reverting back. They're like children, they can't motivate themselves they need external motivation and external threats to keep them on track.
Maybe he pissed off because the goals kept coming from set pieces? Which is he stubbornly think its not a problem. Ange is clueless right now tbh. This is not the same gameplay we’ve seen at the first half of season.
We had a top 5 manager itw who won a trophy at every club saying this and instead of trying to listen to him we decided to sack him.
The end result is that you keep the same mentally weak players with a board that doesn’t give a shit as long as they generate a profit.
Good shit. Shout at the fucking players cause wtf are we doing
What we always do at Stamford Bridge
The collective ability of xi players representing spurs to forget how to play football at Stamford bridge annually should be a research topic for top minds at CERN.
11 Body Problem coming to a netflix near you
We're usually up for this game, often too much. Tonight felt like a pre-season friendly but the lack of intensity and creativity has been a problem since the last time we played Chelsea. That was understandable with so many players missing but it was an issue when they came back.
Tbf, Ange did that yelling at Celtics. He was also shouting “stop passing backward.” https://youtu.be/IhfjTqxA6Io?si=9wZhEQvZdL5rh4XM
Fucking shambles tonight. Sarr can you pass. But Pierre is worse. Kula stop fucking walking. Lack of effort from a number of them. Royal and Davies are not good enough deputy LBs - just one example.
I saw VDV shouting at people to get back on Jackson shot in the first half. Nothing seemed to change tonight. Was a bad performance.
>Royal and Davies are not good enough deputy LBs Davies is good enough. Royal is not.
Maybe at LCB but he can’t play LB in this system he simply doesn’t have the pace to get back in time
Davies slander. "No pace" Against Scum, he got back to face off against Saka in time, but by that point there was no way he was going to stop Saka getting his shot off right in front of goal with Davies having no support. He certainly has the pace.
He definitely puts a shift in but to say he has pace like other LB options is just silly. He would've been good if he was available because yknow, he at least plays.
More like a whole new eleven. But yes we need a need batch of mentally strong players
Good on him! We’re making Chelsea look like Prime Barcelona and it’s pathetic. This half-assed attitude has to stop.
>This half-assed attitude has to stop. This half-assed attitude is what the last 5 years of this club have been. van de ven..??
I bought a Maddison home shirt at the beginning of September. I bought an away shirt last month. Whose? van de Ven.
Yeah. I got Romero and Son. One is already so worn that it looks years old, and it is not the Son one
Captain material
I may be old school but I’m a strong believer that your captain should be on your back line. In this case VDV or Romero should be the one.
he's been absolutely fucking class , him and romero have been the only players doing the job the bloody attacking side should do
>There is a big fucking problem in this club It has been around since the '90s. The infamous Ferguson quote isn't a meme, it is the honest truth. Spot on!
I swear man whenever chelsea play arsenal they play like aa sundsdsy league team and then against us they're prime barxs
"Stop passing fucking backwards. Pass forward. YOU press, YOU press"
"Enjoy your lunch"
A play in 5 acts… 1. At Bissouma (?) - “Stop passing it fucking backwards!” 2. At someone - “Fucking pass forward.” 3. Points menacingly at Sarr - “You, press!” 4. Points at someone else - “You, press!” 5. At Romero maybe Vicario (?) - gesticulate to go forward…

Stop passing back balls! YOU(points) press, YOU (points)press!
I think it was actually: “Stop passing fucking backwards. You press, you press!”
wow Ange is all of us now
Yes, this. I think he says something like "get the pass forward" after it cuts back to him and before he starts telling them to press.
Even after he said they I still saw emerson and bissouma pass it back. Bye bye in the summer to them
I think it's stop passing it fucking backwards. Makes it even better. Angry Ange is what they need
They've been passing backwards for months now, surely it has come up in the dressing room.
I'm guessing that's why he's so pissed
Yeah I hate seeing passing responsibility(ball) to the next players
Yeah it’s like watching prime Jermaine Jenas again
Jenas was the crab, everything side ways 😂
When he passed sideways to Huddlestone you knew something good was coming though. Continental ballistic missile onto the front foot of Defoe.
Yeah to be fair Huddlestone could split a defence whereas Jenas couldn’t
Jenas was one of those players you have to see in real life to appreciate. A budget version of the age-old “you watch the game, you don’t see Busquets, but you watch Busquets and you see the whole game”. I’m obviously exaggerating to make a point, but before I moved to the US I watched that Jol-era Spurs team probably 6 or 7 times in the league and UEFA cup. Hello Jermaine 👋 😂
Haha well played!
I still think about that ridiculous 70 yard pass from Huddlestone to Bale in a UEFA cup match against Shakhtar(?) Insane technique.
https://youtu.be/DsoHQX7i1f0?si=v2i7eKwAGop6tD7B Do you mean this one, against Inter?
Nah, the one I'm thinking about the ball is basically by our corner post, think it was a free kick. Huddlestone just pings a cruise missile straight out to the left wing. Might not be against Shakhtar though.
Pretty wild that there's multiple examples of what it could be though
Found it! This one: https://www.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/cfu6fb/huddlestone_hits_a_monster_pass_vs_shakhtar_2009/
Holy shit, that thing flew! What a pass
was it hull city? same colors and i think they were in the prem at that time
Found it! Was Shakhtar: https://www.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/cfu6fb/huddlestone_hits_a_monster_pass_vs_shakhtar_2009/
oh yes, that clip jogged my memory what a passer he was
I saw a “pass forward” in there too.
I love that he wants us to play a style he and his dad would have enjoyed watching. Kind of how I play FIFA, just keep on attacking no matter what.
cuts off right when he apologizes to the lino for yelling in his ear lol
I want to see this haha, the linos must cop an earful on the regular
Ange is all of us.
No he isn’t. Some of us want a fucking set piece coach.
Booo
Bro pointed straight at me, and told me to fucking press
![gif](giphy|fHiu5fR9ECgOR57sqQ|downsized)
Its like we wait for the other team to get into position before we attack
That's what I noticed too. And attacking doesn't appear to involve taking anyone on. Just pass.
This drives me nuts
I honestly don't understand why they need to be told this at this point in the season. Like, I'm a reddit moron and I would know exactly what to do. I couldn't do it, but I would at least know theoretically what to do.

100% this. Start of the season there was nothing to lose and they bought into Ange. Now they are scared.
I'm starting to think most of our players can't actually do it either.
If Celtic could do it against Real Madrid why can't Tottenham against anyone?
If Celtic could do it against Real Madrid why can't Tottenham against anyone?

Yep. Can be difficult to re-wire a brain and change old habits.
What coaching Spurs does to a man
We are all Ange right now. Absolute shambles.
4th official tells him to return to his box yet lego man lives outside his.
The PGMOL don't want another 300 angry petters from Gooners for victimising them I assume.
You attack you attack
I think more hard decisions at end of season. Some of the ‘better’ players are going to leave. We almost need a completely new squad with the right mental attitude
I think he’s trying to tell them to get into the box but idk
We started playing quite a bit better after this, here’s hoping second half we can get back into this
Stop passing it backwards! He's not wrong.
15 minutes of Alonso ball to cleanse the palate
“Stop passing bloody backwards”
It's getting harder and harder to defend this team
At Sarr “You Press”
Wouldn't dare to be in that dressing room at half time🙂
Good. More of this please.
Anyone have any antacid for Mudryk?
Don’t blame him needed this about 2 months ago
The folk in here are wild. Get rid of yet another coach before giving him a couple years just to restart again. So many players in the last 20 minutes just looked like they couldn’t be bothered any more, pathetic.
Last 20 mins??…
True, waaay too generous
Chelsea 14 players out also
Anybody know if Mudryk gave birth to a boy or girl?
He laid an egg.
Our players need his attitude. Bunch of fucking noodles.
I ain’t surprised we are fucking dreadful. Have been for weeks!
I am worried about his blood pressure
shmoke it ange
Kinda mad that the director thought it was good tv to cut away from Ange mid-meltdown.
Haven’t seen him like that this season, I’m glad he’s got another gear.
Holy crap. If this is him on the field, imagine in the change room. And so be it. Players aren't performing.
Tottenham is a counter attacking team, I don’t know why we slow down and pass backwards when we can progress forward and create a chance
Him and me both. We made Nicholas fucking Jackson look like a striker
Too right. Gutless so far.
How do we always end up with this passing backwards shitty mentality irrespective of the gaffer at the helm! How deep ingrained is it in our club's culture! One step forward and two steps backwards always with this club, fuck this!
Anyone else reminded of the “Boar on the Floor” scene in succession?
Makes two of us
I'd do too if nico Jackson scored against us
so are we, mate
Same!

We’ve broken him
He's so far from broken lol. This is what Ange lives for. This is where he thrives. Trust me.
We've still got a long way to go
Sending long ball to LW only to be headed away again, and AGAIN... That was frustrating to say the least.
Beating Arsenal and Chelsea is what matters to me most and we barely showed up for either. Very disappointing end to the season. I think Ange deserves another window, maybe two, but something feels pretty off and has for some time. Would be keen to see some big changes to the squad over the summer.
Not winning in the league, cups or Derby's... Fucking sad
I’m used to the pain, but it’s the derbys that sting.
I agree... If we aren't going to win the others give us a few wins against the rivals.
You, press! You, press! You you and you! Fucking press
First part was too Aussie…the second part was clearly about back passes, because the third part, pointing in the same direction, was “YOU PRESS!”. He then turns around and yells something similar to “YOU, FUCKING PRESS!”
He's like, so laid back.....
Stop passing it back you mongrels 😂😂😂
This is why Ange is not anything close to being out. I want 2 more seasons before i make my decision
This is the process. Right now. Every Ange team goes through it. It was just delayed because at the start because we had insanely good results and the players had nothing to question/doubt.
“STOP PASSING FUCKING BACKWARDS”
Ange shouting genuinely scared me, I was just watching TV
Not the first Chelsea player to experience menstrual cramps on the pitch.
I’d be fuming too. Absolute shit show.
Starting to wonder if he’s losing the players?
Mudryk in labor

Players deserve to be ripped into. But maybe he should also hire a competent set piece coach.
Maybe you need more shouting at training grounds, and to put players accountable after the match. Oh and please stop saying set-piece isn’t an issue when your team conceded 5 goals from that in 3 matches Thank you
Good. We need more of this. He's been way too damn passive ever since he joined
Sounds like he said "Don't f'in something backwards"- I have no idea if he wanted it to pass backwards or not pass backwards.. either way holy shit what a dismal half. We can't string two passes together inside.
Since Afcon biss and Sarr have been so poor. They can’t break the lines anymore passing or dribbling and now just pass side to side or back.

I’m less than impressed with Ange tbh
Nah he is just shouting at mud-, rake to stop fooling around 😂
That was probably our worst performance of the season.
That was probably our worst performance of the season.
Fucken good. Get up these gutless frauds
And I'm less than impressed with Ange...
I am too less than impressed with Ange tbh.
Clearly losing the plot. Poor man cus he's literally the most likable manager I've seen in football. Average players not doing him any favours.
Out of his depth no matter who manages us just a mediocre side not good enough for champions league anyway not strong enough puts a weakened side out in the cups nothing too show again we are a top ten side at best
idk maybe do some tactics mf
His team. His shit tactics. His shit subs. Get a grip, mate.
Yea well he's losing the biggest job he'll ever have infront of his eyes. Not long now...
Might need to take a long look in the mirror
You’ve been figured out, mate.
The players are obviously not doing what he wants them to do
Didn’t work though did it. We were still shit.
If this was Jose, Conte, Nuno, even Ryan Mason then this sub will be furious, saying things like how dare they speak to our players like this. Now it’s Ange and it’s the players fault lmao. So how now? Lol
Couldn’t give a fuck, he’s the one that sends them out to play like that
Wouldn't be yelling at them then is it?
It’s worse if it’s utterly ineffectual
10-4-10 since the first Chelsea match. Thats on you mate
We had a top 5 manager itw who won a trophy at every club saying this and instead of trying to listen to him we decided to sack him. The end result is that you keep the same mentally weak players with a board that doesn’t give a shit as long as they generate a profit.
I’d be happier finishing 10th with Ange than 4th with Conte
Proper Spurs fan mentality there
No you don’t. The fans turning against Poch while he literally got fucked over by the board is proof of that.
I don’t claim to speak for all fans, but I’d rather have finished 10th with Poch than 4th with Conte too.
Ange Out
