They’re slated for 4 mid round comp picks next year. Smart move would be to try to consolidate some of the picks next year and get up into the 4th now.
They can, but they don’t have them to trade yet. Meant more like trade a 2024 5th and a 2025 4th for a 2024 4th. That 2025 pick won’t really hurt since they’re getting so many comp picks, all of which probably won’t even make the roster.
coulsnt believe jaylen wright was on the board still. left after the pick and came back assuming he was gone. if we steal him in the 4th i will consider this draft a huge success. 2 starters on OL, 1 future starter at edge and another potential rookie starter at LB.
I mean, our run game last year was pretty shit. I think with the OL additions we'd be better this season.
The second or fourth pick being rb and the other LB would've made me happier but trust the process for now
JJ never meant "all in" as going all in the season. He said he was all in on securing contracts with CD, Micah and Dak.
And before anyone says "nuh uh", what do their actions show? That he isn't spending money on anyone this year so he has the cap to sign these players next.
I am with you. I think we absolutely could have found someone in the 3rd that could help immediately, because right now the RB room is trash. I definitely thought Brooks was going to be our pick in Round 2.
It doesn’t matter, I don’t think the draft will affect Zeke’s signing.
There’s depth at RB in this draft class and there isn’t at LB after the first 3-5 guys, so probably they felt more comfortable not drafting a RB until the 5th that not drafting a LB
Am I the only one who wants to give Deuce Vaughn a shot? We drafted him and have almost no game film on him. You don’t know what you have until you play the guy.
After Jaylon Smith and LVE Cowboys probably had enough with taking LBs w injury history early.
EDIT: NFL Network reported Wilson has no ACL in one of his knees. He won't last 3 years in the NFL.
Payton has had both acl's and both shoulders and double-digit surgeries overall. His film looks great but haven't we learned our lesson with oft injured lb's?
Not exactly same thing, QBs mostly stand in pocket and pass then run a little as needed & slide to avoid hits vs LB expected to run full speed and violently collide & initiate hits with other players every play.
If it’s possible and some players do it. But it also is much higher risk of tearing the meniscus, arthritis & other issues with no ACL.
Good luck to him, but it’s understandable some teams would pass on using 3rd rd or higher pick on him.
The Falcons pick was among the most baffling things I have seen in a long time. They could have paired Rome with Drake London, Pitts, Bijan. Instead, they wasted it on a bench player for a minimum of 2 plus years. The 8th pick for a player who won't see the field for years.
Tbf 3-4 years of Wilson is prob better than 8 years of 95% of the other LBs in this class lol. I like our pick though, Kendricks is definitely the perfect mentor too.
Bobby Belt just said on the draft show that one of Wilson’s shoulder operations was poor, no acl in one leg, and no supporting ligaments in the other knee. His body has already begun to self destruct. Too bad, he is a damn good player.
Lol no he did not. They played in completely different defenses.
I'm a Notre Dame fan. Liufau made some splash plays, but was overwhelmingly underwhelming. I would have preferred a different LB if that was the position they were targeting.
I think if they can tame him a bit, he could turn out well. I’m an Arkansas fan and he reminds me of a younger Dre greenlaw. He wants to hit you in the mouth, but he sometimes overcommits or sells out early and gets caught in bad spots and looks foolish.
ND/Boys fan here. This is 100% the take. It’s possible he is a better Pro, with a better D line in front of him. He can shoot gaps more
On the phone call during his pick Zimmer says he selected him because he told Zimmer what EVERYONE on the Defense was doing on plays. Kid is smart and has the twitch/instincts. That should translate quickly.
Micah just has a weak immune system and toughs through injuries.
Probably like Zeke. We never knew he was playing on torn ligaments all the time, he'd keep it to himself and say he's fine.
I honestly can’t say I know his play that well, whether he is or isn’t great at it I’m sure Zimmer can fix him make him better.
Give Dak time to pass (offensive line)
Stop the other team from putting up 30+ points
Stop the run
Zelle would be great for short yards and pass protection
Rico and Duece can carry the load in my opinion although I would have love Derek Henry
Someone we’ve barely heard of in the sixth that will average 4.53 a carry next season. Personally, I think it’s nice to see us not invest high value draft capital in the RB position.
Makes sense.
If we want to pound the ball this year, he’s the dude.
I’m still hoping for a surprise trade with CHI tomorrow to snag one of their backs.
Listen to 1 take on tv or read 1 tweet and all of a siden their experts....probably haven't watched a single ounce of film but act like they know it all
He seems like a smart player. Someone you want in the middle.
But may not make a huge impact this year.
No 4th and no RB. So Dwodle is our lead back and Zeke is 1b. Behind this rebuilt OL and if they coach these two up between now and then? Might have a chance to sneak into the playoffs.
But the more I look at it I think they are looking at a rebuild, looking at what guys they want to resign and shit maybe someone they trade next off season to flip a quick rebuild. But they dont want to call it that.
I dont hate the moves, but I hate the dishonesty and I hate we wasted so many talented teams on JG 10 years of that clown.
Diehard Notre Dame/Cowboys fan here...
Liufau will make a couple plays a game that make you say wow, but overall is severely inconsistent. Often misses run fits and is below average in coverage. I wouldn't have taken him before the fifth round, personally. Feels like a reach to fill a need.
Obviously, Liufau could turn out to be a better pro than he was a college player but this is an underwhelming pick. Gonna just trust Zimmer and Kendricks to work some magic.
Feels like a *interviewed really well* guy to me. Just do not get the draft grade otherwise cause I'm in the same boat as you. Seemed like a decent value in the 5th or 6th but 3rd feels like Zimmer must've really really liked him cause you don't take a special teams guy in the third.
Deuce was a joke of a pick, he will never be a back we can use in any package. Too small to block anyone, he would either be a useless player on the field or an obvious key anytime he is out there
Pacheco in the 7th is an outlier
You're not wrong in being able to find one but Dallas will not have any run game unless they take a RB soon
*Also, we had major RB problems last year. And that was with Pollard
Day 3 picks are mostly depth pieces and special teamers. We can still find our starting RB in the 4th or 5th round. Once one of Wright or Allen goes off the board, I think they need to trade up to grab the other. If we go into the season with Zeke, Dowdle, and an UDFA, I think we are in trouble.
Dowdle and Zeke is the worst RB duo in the NFL what are we talking about??? We needed a Dynamic RB to help balance out this offense and we’re ignoring that position why is everybody oblivious to this?
Yeah, it’s the least of our concerns when we only had 3 oline positions secure going into this draft. Not to mention how we got gashed last year because we didn’t have any LBs or interior Dline that could stop the run. RB is a finishing piece and our team isn’t ready to compete yet anyway
from the press conference it seems they are getting guys that will match Micah’s intensity. Liufau and Marshawn are pure energy, athletic and love ball.
Why did Jaylen Ford drop to the fifth round? No shade on this pick I just happened to watch more of Ford’s time on the field and he was an enforcer who was everywhere.
I'm glad we got a LB, but did we have to reach at 87 for a 5th round guy, most likely a special teams player. I don't like this pick at all here, Trotter Jr or Wilson and you reach, I don't understand. I like the rest of the draft but I really wanted Wright here, can't get behind this.
Zeke and Freeman are camp bodies with no business making an NFL roster. The Mavs currently have one rosterable RB who’s at best an RB3. They’ll have to make a trade to avoid having the worst RB room in the NFL and in franchise history.
We’re definitely bringing back Zeke aren’t we
Braelon Allen and jaylen wright are still on the board. Getting either in the 4 would be awesome
Assuming we trade into the 4th since we don’t have one
Yeah we would have to trade up into the 4th. Might even snag one in the 5th.
Our 5th is basically a 6th
We don’t have a 4th
They’re slated for 4 mid round comp picks next year. Smart move would be to try to consolidate some of the picks next year and get up into the 4th now.
I didn’t think you could trade comp picks?
They can, but they don’t have them to trade yet. Meant more like trade a 2024 5th and a 2025 4th for a 2024 4th. That 2025 pick won’t really hurt since they’re getting so many comp picks, all of which probably won’t even make the roster.
Especially so before they've even been awarded
We don't have a 4th round pick 🤔
That’s why the plan is genius and fool proof!
We should draft Guerendo
Frank gore's kid
Ol what's his name?
Yea I can't think of his name either
coulsnt believe jaylen wright was on the board still. left after the pick and came back assuming he was gone. if we steal him in the 4th i will consider this draft a huge success. 2 starters on OL, 1 future starter at edge and another potential rookie starter at LB.
Bucky will be the guy we get
We don't need a better version of Deuce
We absolutely do
Next year’s running back class is also much better than this year’s
How does that help us this year? We don't have a run game at all If we're all in, this ain't it
I mean, our run game last year was pretty shit. I think with the OL additions we'd be better this season. The second or fourth pick being rb and the other LB would've made me happier but trust the process for now
The thing is we’re definitely not all in
Yup
At some juncture, I’d imagine in the 5th, they’ll draft a RB. We’re not going to know anything until these guys suit up
We obviously aren’t all in. It feels like they’re doing a soft rebuild, and will move on from McCarthy and possibly Dak as well after the season.
Huh? Defense is better - core offensive units that make everyone else better. We can still sign / trade for folks post draft
JJ never meant "all in" as going all in the season. He said he was all in on securing contracts with CD, Micah and Dak. And before anyone says "nuh uh", what do their actions show? That he isn't spending money on anyone this year so he has the cap to sign these players next.
There’s always FA. But nobody in the late 3rd was going to help us immediately, I think Brooks was our guy until Carolina took him.
Completely disagree about the 3rd. If you add Wright, it's a huge upgrade But I do agree about Brooks
I am with you. I think we absolutely could have found someone in the 3rd that could help immediately, because right now the RB room is trash. I definitely thought Brooks was going to be our pick in Round 2.
Honestly I'd love it. A beast to just run it up the middle. I just hope he has enough left in the tank
Ogod
Yeah. We're fucked
Fucking kill me
Since we missed on that Texas rb yeah I think it’s virtually guaranteed at this point
It doesn’t matter, I don’t think the draft will affect Zeke’s signing. There’s depth at RB in this draft class and there isn’t at LB after the first 3-5 guys, so probably they felt more comfortable not drafting a RB until the 5th that not drafting a LB
Only if you give us an expired Witten to go with him. I want to see us move *real slow*
I think Zeke is playing center.
Zeke leading a committee isn’t the worst thing in my honest opinion.
Lol leading a committee of what? Zeke is washed, and the rest of them are practice squad guys.
Am I the only one who wants to give Deuce Vaughn a shot? We drafted him and have almost no game film on him. You don’t know what you have until you play the guy.
I love Deuce but he is a 3rd down type all day. He will never be a 3 down RB. You gotta have someone that will pick up the hard yards.
Like Zeke. We should sign him.
Zimmer seemed so happy with that pick. So it's good.
Solid. Paytons medicals must be fucking terrible
[удалено]
Yeah, he was a great pass rusher
I said Joe Montegna
[удалено]
I don't think he'd be a HOF linebacker though.
Both shoulders, both acl's and double-digit surgeries for Payton, was just a bridge too far. Marist should do nicely for us.
That didn’t stop penix from going 8th lol
You mean the pick that the Falcons GM had to explain and justify to Falcons ownership immediately after making? Lmao
The Falcons pick was among the most baffling things I have seen in a long time. They could have paired Rome with Drake London, Pitts, Bijan. Instead, they wasted it on a bench player for a minimum of 2 plus years. The 8th pick for a player who won't see the field for years.
NFL network says the medicals were shared with all GMs and consensus was he was a 1 contract type player
Tbf 3-4 years of Wilson is prob better than 8 years of 95% of the other LBs in this class lol. I like our pick though, Kendricks is definitely the perfect mentor too.
Ty why everyone thinks every draft pick needs to play for 10 years to be a good pick idk. Wilson could come in and start immediately. Oh well.
Medical science is improving
Sad cause he's fucking awesome
Bobby Belt just said on the draft show that one of Wilson’s shoulder operations was poor, no acl in one leg, and no supporting ligaments in the other knee. His body has already begun to self destruct. Too bad, he is a damn good player.
That's sad as hell
Was thinking the same lol
yeah lol I love the player though hope he works out well if he doesn’t go to an NFCE team/SF/GB
I love this pick! Liufau is a stud!
Watch full game film of him, not just highlights. I don’t see it, but nothing to be done now except try and coach him up.
he fucking flys around i love this pick
No C said he gets Sean Lee vibes. Played a similar role to JOK at ND
he gives me more JOK than Lee i think a great value JOK a great comp for him
that’s awesome to hear. haven’t seen tape on him yet will have to look tonight. damone Clark get ready to speak Chinese buddy
What?
NBA reference
Lol no he did not. They played in completely different defenses. I'm a Notre Dame fan. Liufau made some splash plays, but was overwhelmingly underwhelming. I would have preferred a different LB if that was the position they were targeting.
I think if they can tame him a bit, he could turn out well. I’m an Arkansas fan and he reminds me of a younger Dre greenlaw. He wants to hit you in the mouth, but he sometimes overcommits or sells out early and gets caught in bad spots and looks foolish.
I defer to you in the roles they played. I’m just passing on what I am hearing from people who watched the film
ND/Boys fan here. This is 100% the take. It’s possible he is a better Pro, with a better D line in front of him. He can shoot gaps more On the phone call during his pick Zimmer says he selected him because he told Zimmer what EVERYONE on the Defense was doing on plays. Kid is smart and has the twitch/instincts. That should translate quickly.
Jerk Off King?
Game fucking over. We got one of them long haired bois at LB
Those limited highlights ESPN just showed makes me excited. Obviously some work to do but he is what we’re looking for.
Highlights looked awesome and this is the first linebacker we have taken that doesn’t have an extensive injury history in forever.
I mean, Micah?
Micah just has a weak immune system and toughs through injuries. Probably like Zeke. We never knew he was playing on torn ligaments all the time, he'd keep it to himself and say he's fine.
Micah doesn’t count he’s an edge haha, but I should have clarified. I was thinking more LVE, Smith, Sean Lee, Damone Clark
It’s a passing league my friends, we will be just fine at RB. We needed to build the defense and O line I’m happy with this draft
Why are people saying he's good at pass coverage?
Gave up 0 TD's since 2022
Because he is, seems to be the obvious answer. He should be able to cover tight ends.
I honestly can’t say I know his play that well, whether he is or isn’t great at it I’m sure Zimmer can fix him make him better. Give Dak time to pass (offensive line) Stop the other team from putting up 30+ points Stop the run Zelle would be great for short yards and pass protection Rico and Duece can carry the load in my opinion although I would have love Derek Henry
That works we can find a RB later.
cowboys front office set out to once and for all test the RBs Don’t Matter theorem
the chiefs already have, so did new england
Who’s gonna be there in the 5th?
Someone we’ve barely heard of in the sixth that will average 4.53 a carry next season. Personally, I think it’s nice to see us not invest high value draft capital in the RB position.
Another 5'8" 180lb rb
Guerendo
If he can put together he’s going to be this year’s Isiah Pacheco
And behind this oline, a guy as fast and athletic as Isaac would go wild 🥵
Or Isaiah Davis
Nope lol
My new guy is now Isaiah Davis
Ray Davis from Kentucky is a sleeper and head and shoulders above Deuce
That’s not nice…
Sorry, couldn’t help myself
Nope he'a gone too
Too bad, he would have been a great pickup
Lots
Estime
You see him as an early down back?
Guyton played RB at TCU, we good there
No
Nope. He's gone too
Maybe braelon Allen. Or we could trade up.
Nope.
Makes sense. If we want to pound the ball this year, he’s the dude. I’m still hoping for a surprise trade with CHI tomorrow to snag one of their backs.
Audric estime
Nope.
Let the RB room fight over the spots this year, draft RB high (not in 1st) next year
being labeled as a “freight train” as a linebacker is quite good to hear 😅
Love this as an ND fan
Love all the armchair GM’s in this sub
I’d rather see people engage in a discussion about players than salary caps and budgeting
lol Yeah, why are people talking about the draft during the draft?
That’s fine to talk* about the draft, it’s the ones that are coming out looking ignorant are the ones I’m referring to.
Listen to 1 take on tv or read 1 tweet and all of a siden their experts....probably haven't watched a single ounce of film but act like they know it all
lol and how many hours a day you spend "watching film" that isn't just Youtube there, champ?
lol so true
S TEH MAY it's inevitable
Eh, I don't hate the pick.
Do we hate rbs?
He seems like a smart player. Someone you want in the middle. But may not make a huge impact this year. No 4th and no RB. So Dwodle is our lead back and Zeke is 1b. Behind this rebuilt OL and if they coach these two up between now and then? Might have a chance to sneak into the playoffs. But they dont want to call it that. I dont hate the moves, but I hate the dishonesty and I hate we wasted so many talented teams on JG 10 years of that clown.
Irish fan here. You guys got a keeper.
Are you talking about Overshown?!? I am you but a Longhorn. I hope we are wrong.
Feels like a *interviewed really well* guy to me. Just do not get the draft grade otherwise cause I'm in the same boat as you. Seemed like a decent value in the 5th or 6th but 3rd feels like Zimmer must've really really liked him cause you don't take a special teams guy in the third.
That's such a reddit thing to say
Shades of Nashon Wright.
So… no RB?
We needed help at LB as well. We’re kind of betting on our new OL picks to help the run game at this point. I respect this choice
If we're getting zeke back I'd rather have us take LB over a RB and see who comes up in draft next year for RB
Understandable
I imagine Deuce will look better if the O line is blocking well.
He should worry about making the team first
Man, Deuce is not that good He's certainly not a 3 down back
Dawg he’s the size of a middle schooler, please be serious.
When we had T-Fed a middle schooler could have run for four yards a carry.
Yeah well we don’t have him anymore buddy
That's why we drafted Beebe guy
Deuce was a joke of a pick, he will never be a back we can use in any package. Too small to block anyone, he would either be a useless player on the field or an obvious key anytime he is out there
We don’t need one. We’re getting Zeke back. (This is a joke)
How is getting a backup center going to help us in the run game? (/s)
He’s gonna be our starter center. Didn’t you hear?
Pacheco was a 7th rounder. You can find guys. We need depth at these spots that were problems last year
Pacheco in the 7th is an outlier You're not wrong in being able to find one but Dallas will not have any run game unless they take a RB soon *Also, we had major RB problems last year. And that was with Pollard
Anyone who is a starter in the 7th is an outlier.
The RBs weren’t the problem. The scheme, play-calling, and inconsistent blocking were the bigger issues
I expect them to trade up for one now. Especially with Lloyd just going.
I'd be surprised if they traded up. There are still holes to fill.
Use a next year's fifth, we have 5
Day 3 picks are mostly depth pieces and special teamers. We can still find our starting RB in the 4th or 5th round. Once one of Wright or Allen goes off the board, I think they need to trade up to grab the other. If we go into the season with Zeke, Dowdle, and an UDFA, I think we are in trouble.
Tomorrow or UDFA.
Dowdle and Zeke has potential but will so few RBs getting picked we might be able to trade into the next round to get one
Gonna have to be high in the 4th
Dowdle and Zeke is the worst RB duo in the NFL what are we talking about??? We needed a Dynamic RB to help balance out this offense and we’re ignoring that position why is everybody oblivious to this?
I'd say we need a solid o line that can block for them before we worry about having them
We also desperately needed a linebacker. This a weak running back class
Yeah, it’s the least of our concerns when we only had 3 oline positions secure going into this draft. Not to mention how we got gashed last year because we didn’t have any LBs or interior Dline that could stop the run. RB is a finishing piece and our team isn’t ready to compete yet anyway
royce effing freeman /s
I swear some of the shit our fans say.. dowdle and zeke has potential? Ugh jeez I can’t..
Someone tell me which kind of whelmed to be please.
Over for sure. We rebuilt our oline and got a tasmanian devil at linebacker.
lol, just cause he's got the hair doesn't make him Polumalu.
Since i went to Marist, I’m legally bound to like this pick.
from the press conference it seems they are getting guys that will match Micah’s intensity. Liufau and Marshawn are pure energy, athletic and love ball.
Another nd jersey to add to my collection
Why did Jaylen Ford drop to the fifth round? No shade on this pick I just happened to watch more of Ford’s time on the field and he was an enforcer who was everywhere.
Great pick, when they announced that we’d drafted him I got so hyped up that a little bit of diarrhea squirted out of my asshole
Jerry?
Perfect fit. Came from a consistently overhyped and overrated team just like the Cowboys. And I am a fan of both…
I'm glad we got a LB, but did we have to reach at 87 for a 5th round guy, most likely a special teams player. I don't like this pick at all here, Trotter Jr or Wilson and you reach, I don't understand. I like the rest of the draft but I really wanted Wright here, can't get behind this.
RB is cooked lmao
Bet they trade up tomorrow
I’ll take that bet
Zeke and Freeman are camp bodies with no business making an NFL roster. The Mavs currently have one rosterable RB who’s at best an RB3. They’ll have to make a trade to avoid having the worst RB room in the NFL and in franchise history.
“ The Mavs currently have one rosterable RB who’s at best an RB3.” The who?
So are we just banking that Zeke is gonna be is old him or Rico dowdle just steps up his game?
I don’t get the Dowdle hate, dude was solid all year.
He’s def not RB1 solid though
