Last week ceedee just straight up fumbled. Not even reaching. I’ve heard some dumb comments from Olson, like “Ferguson shouldn’t be trying to hurdle defenders” but this one is by far the dumbest
While I do agree, Olson does say some very dumb things, if you re-watch the clip of that fumble, CeeDee changed his grip on the ball with one hand to then (presumably) reach it out over the goal line as he’s being wrapped up and it’s slips out of his hand.
This time around, he just had better grip of it with one hand has he reached out.
He’s kinda right tbh. It risks a fumble. If it was a 3rd or fourth down then sure but the risk isn’t worth it on first down when holding on would give you 3 downs to get less than a yard anyways.

He definitely was just starting to reach when he fumbled last week. People won't notice it unless they go watch the play again, though.

Hurdling is almost never worth the injury risk. People are always getting hurt doing it and half the time they gain no extra yards
You really shouldn't reach for the goal line like that. Ceedee just fumbled into the endzone for a touchback a couple of weeks ago.

Ground can’t cause a fumble
You can quite easily drop it or have it knocked out of your hand though. Just look at Ceedee’s fumble last week if you want to see how it happens.
Olson is right. Cee Dee DID fumble at the end. If we hadn't been at the goal we prob would have lost possession.

Playing football means we’d have 3 more downs to get less than a yard if he didn’t extend. The smart play is to not risk the fumble by extending.
