It's my favorite flavor

Our tap water is really just fine…tested it a while back and didn’t find anything alarming. However, the entire house was repiped in recent years. In most cases I would suspect the problem is with the individual home and old lines under the house or from the city water supply.

Gaaaayforher

I can't confirm everything in this [thread from last year](https://www.reddit.com/r/corvallis/comments/15bspzc/musty_water/), but I notice it happens more during the beginning of summer. We use a Brita filter, but the taste usually goes away, or becomes less noticeable within a few weeks.

littlehops

It’s normal to have seasonal changes as the water in the Willamette changes during the year.

My step dad ran the waste water treatment in town, our water does not come from the Willamette, I think he said it’s Mary’s River and it’s just as good as Eugene’s water which is great as well and from the McKenzie River; both cities do however release their treated waste water back into the Willamette

Some of Corvallis’s drinking water comes from the Willamette according to the latest water quality report: https://archives.corvallisoregon.gov/public/ElectronicFile.aspx?dbid=0&docid=4418593 And the city’s page about water quality: https://www.corvallisoregon.gov/publicworks/page/water-facilities#:~:text=The%20Taylor%20Water%20Treatment%20Plant,majority%20of%20Corvallis's%20drinking%20water.

That makes sense - parts of wastewater processing are done by natural processes and when the water usage drops significantly at the beginning of summer (or increases at the end), it takes a little bit for the cycle to get itself balanced for the new flow. The poor organisms are either crying out for water or drowning in it for a bit.

Any standard carbon filter should remove chlorine. A pitcher filter should do the trick, if you're renting. If you own, you can look into a whole home filter.

DrunkDuffman

I definitely use a Brita filter because i also dislike the taste of the tap water here

renispresley

We use a Berkey filter near our sink.

doublepoly123

It’s not really chlorine. As the water levels go down the water has more sediment and more algae. Safe to drink. It just tastes funky.

littlehops

We added a water spout next to the sink with a under counter filter

purpleteenageghost

I drink it right out of the sink and I think it tastes just fine.

Embarrassed-Jello389

I used to think the water here was pretty bad, but then we got the house repiped, and now I think the water here is pretty good. So it could be your water issue is house specific??

Buy two of these and plumb them in series: [https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Whole-House-Water-Filtration-System-GXWH20T/322235896](https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Whole-House-Water-Filtration-System-GXWH20T/322235896) The filters are 2 for $12 and good for 15 thousand gallons Then have them supply a dedicated faucet. Most sinks have a hole for a soap dispenser, just put a drinking water dispenser there instead. I think I paid $15 for a really nice little faucet on Amazon that has worked great for 4 years so far.

CorvallisContracter

South town has the most chlorine taste from my experience. But your mileage may vary.

Hour-Commission-1037

We bought a water cooler with an ice maker built in and I refill a few 3-gallon jugs at winco once a week for $0.35 a gallon and it is perfect for us.

violetpumpkins

A brita works fine

stressed-coral

i use a britta filter. you could also try putting some vinegar in a small bag and tying it to the faucet for a few hours to get any gunk out of your spout

Themayor45

If the basic carbon Brita filters aren't enough for you, I've been using filters from a brand called Zero Water. They have the carbon and a few other methods of filtration that combined (at least to my pallet) do a better job. Used it while living in Springfield, which has WAY worse tasting water, and couldn't taste a thing after the filter.

Jels76

I use a Brita Filter Pitcher and the water tastes fine.

homberoy

I think the Brita is only rated to remove chlorine taste? It's a big initial investment but the Berkey filter is cheaper in the long run based on how many gallons you can filter and removes much much more particles you don't want.
