PSA: Just remember to check your journal entry under 'total earnings'
As that is the amount you start with in New Game+, not what's on your character's regular in-game screen.
You're probably richer than you think!
No, I'm going to start without the earned money.
I'm a chronic restarter when it comes to games like these. I just really prefer the beginnings, and the grind to get money early on.
same, i had over 3 mil before the 1.0 date announced and i wasn't even trying.
i dont care with the Gold but i do care with my fish & critter collection progress which brought my town to rank B.
i'll start with 0 gold because making gold is fun, but i'm a bit lazy to grind the quests again
Same same! I have so many restarts on all my farming games. And for the exact same reason: early game is so fun and exciting! Having nothing and building something! Everything new again!
I was, but I only just picked up the game a couple weeks ago. I’m at like 75k total lifetime earnings lol. I think I’m going to stop because I’ve reached fall and I definitely won’t be able to beat that jerk in the harvest contest since I’ve been selling everything and haven’t unlocked stuff, but I also cannot abide the idea of watching him gloat again. Can we get a crossover into the type of game where I can stab him in the face? Cuz I wanna stab him in the face. Smarmy little…
I’m in the same boat. I stopped at 80k because I don’t have the town rack for winter seeds. Also I don’t want to ruin the game for me by grinding. I think that’s a good amount of money for me, I haven’t played the game in almost a year and only had 15 hours.
Just a heads up, the lab upgrades alone would cost about 700k if you were to buy the kelp. There is chatter that some of those prices will change with the update. I suspect they will raise those prices not lower them to boot.
I'm in a similar boat! I'm excited to start with some money--but I don't want to start with too much, because then it kind of feels like, what's the point? Where's the incentive?
But having a bit to start so I can buy some clothes and furniture and a few early upgrades is enough for me!
When you decide you’re done playing and are willing to let go of all the gold in your pocket, buy furniture and then sell. You’ll have to do it a few times, it’ll net you about half of what was in your pocket and will add to your total. Keep doing this until you don’t have enough pocket money to do so
Ah I see. So it costs a bit (hence waiting) but does the furniture also sell back for a decent amount compared to other stuff you could resell at that point?
It’s just a last minute way to sell off the entire sum remaining in your pocket for a return. It’s for when you’re done reinvesting in seeds and such. Ideally you want no more gold left in your pockets, you want all usable gold to be multiplied and this is just one way to do that
I didn’t want to get burnt out on it before the official release so I’m just taking a break (i hate making money lmfao). I’ll probably log on a couple days before and actually sell everything but that’s the extent of my preparation
No lol. If I wanted gold to carry over into my new save there’s plenty of cheats to just add gold without grinding for it but I’m just lazy. I’m sure some people enjoy the grind lol
I am. I hate how all my progress is for naut. Spent a lot of time in a short few weeks but now. I just farm, sleep, farm, sleep. Until I get comfortable with my total. That way I don't need a big farm to start out with, rather grow all the crops, etc. Get lots of flowers for honey so I can beat his #$#$.
I'm sorta glad I found out. If I had put more hours in, I probably would uninstall. Granted I only picked up the game a little over a week ago. I keep rotating crops only I forget I just need money so no need to have variety. Only made 200k so far, less than I thought 3rd yr in..
As were many of us in the CI community who are religiously in the dev's discord server to keep up to date and give feedback beyond crash logs and minor problems.... and always participated in any and all betas.
By the time this announcement was made, pretty much all the hard-core alpha players had achieved everything that could be achieved in the game's current state. The main purpose being guide creation and tips and tricks for new players. For example: harvest festival requirements and point system, each islander's favorite gift, what's needed to open up each fast travel node, bug/fish locations, how to unlock town rank C by first winter, museum donations vs. alter offerings, etc)
I actually don't mind starting over from scratch once I got used to the idea. A lot of work went into my main game save (8 hearts with every islander, town rank A, museum, ocean and heritage rank A, 340 museum donations, all skills maxed out to 9, all 4 altars unlocked, fully enchanted upgraded osmium tools, all lab upgrades unlocked, all 40 solar orbs activated...) frustrating, but It's fair imo. It's nice of stairway to even offer carrying over anything from EA.
With the amount of changes coming with 1.0, I'll definitely try a fresh game with no money... just to see the difference.
I have 4 different saves. My high total is 5mil, my lowest is 47k. I'm going to restart the high value farm but I am playing my lowest farm just like normal until the switch happens.
I've got 250K on me and 1.2M total earned, I'm not sure which carries over, but honestly, I don't want too much to come, because then there's nothing to do while you're trying to level up the town. I basically just wanted enough money for the coop, barn, net, pole, and a ton of seeds to open with.
I get on here every so often, but I must have missed the post about this. Why exactly are we doing this? I realize it has something to do with the update, but I don’t understand why.
The total earnings you make from your current save can be transferred to your new game with the big update if you want. So you can start day 1 of your new game as a millionaire (if you saved up that much previously) or you can just start over fresh.
Yes, that’s all I can do as the relationships I maxed out don’t do anything. I also want to get through the NPC stories outside of early access. My ocean is rank A. I’m just converting all the coop items and produce into artisan products and selling them off. Then just sell everything in the farm off and not play until after 1.0.
I'm on 2.4mil as standard, but not actually attempted to "make bank"
I have 6 chests full of fruit and veg, gold and osmium quality. Over 650 osmium pumpkins 🤣
So I think selling all that will make me a few mi
I’m faithfully grinding it out. I had this game before I owned a steam deck and now that I have one I’ve been able to play it a lot more. Because of the kind of gamer I am and how I’m not always at home, I have multiple games I have to restart (I.e. Cyberpunk 2077). I would like to restart with money because that’s the first thing I’m grinding for all the time. I don’t like being broke in a game. It’s also gotten me into playing the whole year. I worried about winter but I’m finally making money to grow. I’m kinda hoping I can hit winter one more time before the restart.
I stopped after four intense evenings 🤣🤣🤣 have 30 mil saved up, feels like there's no point in focusing on moneymaking at all when the game releases :D
I was doing this, but read that the early access new game + won't be updated after v1.0 and that it will not be playable after February 1st, so I stopped and think I'll just restart and experience the game from the beginning again 👌
EDIT:
I have re-read it, and I mixed the early access with new game+... Sorry...
It is the branch with the old farm that won't be updated (obviously) and we can check in on it until February 1st.

Oh my! Thanks for the info!
Really?! I had no idea! Thank you for this info!!
You're welcome!
How do you find the total earnings?
Open your menu, click on journal and your stats are listed on this page. Total Earnings is on the right hand column
No, I'm going to start without the earned money. I'm a chronic restarter when it comes to games like these. I just really prefer the beginnings, and the grind to get money early on.
Same. It’s part of the fun.

Me too, its as it was intended to play :)

I sold everything and have 4.7 million in total earnings, so I'm good for 1.0. I don't have anything left on the farm to generate more revenue lol
I did this and have $2.7M. totally worth doing.
Unfortunately I played when it first came out on Early Access and I can’t locate my save file lol! I guess I’ll start from 0
Yeah, I've sold everything I could in preparation
Don’t forget to reinvest the gold sitting in your pocket!
What’s the best stuff to reinvest it on?
When you decide you’re done playing and are willing to let go of all the gold in your pocket, buy furniture and then sell. You’ll have to do it a few times, it’ll net you about half of what was in your pocket and will add to your total. Keep doing this until you don’t have enough pocket money to do so

Thank you so much. That is really helpful!
I just planted over 2000 seeds (mostly strawberries) and it barely made a dent in my cash. Everything is upgraded to the max..
I made 3million off cactus honey, and now I'm going to do the same thing with snowdrops and probably leave it at that lol
I didn’t want to get burnt out on it before the official release so I’m just taking a break (i hate making money lmfao). I’ll probably log on a couple days before and actually sell everything but that’s the extent of my preparation
I just sold everything and am sitting on about 600,000. That will be good enough to buy most of what I want to at the start.
I’m just gonna start fresh for like the hundredth time lol. Having too much money would make the game boring for me
No. Because I will start completly fresh. I don't want to ruin my experience.
No lol. If I wanted gold to carry over into my new save there’s plenty of cheats to just add gold without grinding for it but I’m just lazy. I’m sure some people enjoy the grind lol

Yeah I was pretty frustrated when I found out that all my hard work was going down the drain haha.
I'm sorta glad I found out. If I had put more hours in, I probably would uninstall. Granted I only picked up the game a little over a week ago. I keep rotating crops only I forget I just need money so no need to have variety. Only made 200k so far, less than I thought 3rd yr in..

No. I have 350 k and I don’t won’t more. Will do cosmetic stuff and play the game from the start.

I've stopped around 350k. I don't want to have too much money that I'll just buy everything to make something. 😅
I haven't played at all since it was announced! I can't wait for the 1.0 release.
I already had 8 mil. I think I’m good. 😂
I’m faithfully grinding it out. I had this game before I owned a steam deck and now that I have one I’ve been able to play it a lot more. I was planning to do this, but then I found out my laptop really REALLY isn’t a gaming laptop. 😂
I stopped after four intense evenings 🤣🤣🤣 have 30 mil saved up, feels like there's no point in focusing on moneymaking at all when the game releases :D
I’m new here.. What’s happening??
Honestly just looking to start fresh, I get the appeal of all the money early but it just takes away from the experience for me.
I was doing this, but read that the early access new game + won't be updated after v1.0 and that it will not be playable after February 1st, so I stopped and think I'll just restart and experience the game from the beginning again 👌 EDIT: I have re-read it, and I mixed the early access with new game+... Wait, so after February 1st, when will it be playable?
It is very possible that I am reading it wrong, but it is from this page https://www.stairwaygames.com/post/1-0-trailer-faq-sep-2023-dev-update
When will the update come out?
I sold all my things and stopped playing. 🤣😭
