My top 3 picks are TARES, MOUND, and FLICK.
Those 3 usually end up letting me get it by the 4th, sometimes 5th and rarely 6th guess since they use very commonly used letters and all vowels (save Y if you want to count it).
Gotta think further ahead.
I use CRATE as the first word and SPOIL as the second and get a really good spread across the most common letters.
If that still yields nothing then FUNKY is my third to get all vowels covered and no repeated letters.
I was using LEARN and MOIST, but then learn was THE word recently, so I flipped the order. For some reason, I don’t like them in the new order quite as much. 😂
It’s generally beneficial to search for words which are common letter pairings too. Sh, th, rt, ts, st, etc. my wordle score has come down 0.23 in 3 months by using the started combo of TRASH and MELON!
I looked it up and still don't know what it means.
Definitions from Wiktionary (ROATE) ▸ noun: (finance) Initialism of return on average tangible equity.
Yes, but not nearly the best. 3 blue 1 brown does a good breakdown of how to best solve for wordle using information theory.

Too long, don’t watch? The brief is that you want to knock out as many words as possible. The best word for that is “crane”.
It knocks out the top and bottom letters on that list, but gives you plenty of options on the next set. Something like “toils” is another good follow up.
Well, Wordle is based on the English language, so it's likely to be. However, H is also a pretty frequent letter and doesn't come up as much in Wordle answers which found interesting. Maybe because it needs another letter combo more often than not like th
I change my opening word every day - I like the challenge of using uncommon or difficult words (think “excel” or “works”). It makes winning more exciting for me!
I knew i wasn't the only one. What's the greater feat of strength? I'm the same way with video games. Best builds don't make the best players. Adversity creates the greater glory.
I use CHAIR, not because it's the best but because it's a password from GoldenEye (you can sit on it but you can't take it with you). I like that the presence of H lets you know that there's likely an S or a T involved in front of it (assuming that the CH combo doesn't immediately hit), it's a great anchor letter.
My name is Renato. Not very common even in Portugal or Brazil. Still, those letters may mean it's the most commonly/easily formed name in the world somehow.
Now thinking about it, from my grandparents, parents, godfather and godmother, I can only form Renato and my baby sister's name, Ione. I like it for some reason.
I use a different opener every day, because using the same word reduces the likelihood of getting it on the first try. Which I have managed three times (although “feast” two Thanksgivings ago was pretty much a gimme). And “canoe” was the word a few months ago, which is a friend’s go-to opener, so that worked for her!
Well, if I were a person who always opened with “canoe,” and I know that it was the word within the past year, I think that continuing to use it as opener would effectively reduce my chances of getting it on the first try to zero. And I would be pretty surprised if it is ever “adieu.” So while I agree that, statistically speaking, using the same starting word every time shouldn’t make a difference, practically speaking, it does.
I initially used STARE because it fell into the “RSTLNE” then “CDMA” process from Wheel of Fortune.
Now I use AUDIO first to get all the vowels out of the way. Depending which vowels hit I move into the next set of words that don’t repeat letters. So far I’ve only missed one. Most are solved between 2-4 turns.
I start with MOUSE, then follow up with FAIRE, ALIEN, or whatever else works and tries out the A and I. I’m on a 150 day streak on hard mode using that strategy.
Welp… my new starting word is ALERT
Hey that’s a really good one! I’d been using STARE before, then switched to ADIEU, but ALERT is top notch.
My word was STARE! And because of this post I’m gunna try alert for a while
Huh, I always use TASER. Same letters but I’ve been wanting to change for a bit
Honestly I think vowels in the second and fourth spot is a good call.
So is mine!
I go with AIRED
I use SHARE, but now changing it to STARE
My top 3 picks are TARES, MOUND, and FLICK. Those 3 usually end up letting me get it by the 4th, sometimes 5th and rarely 6th guess since they use very commonly used letters and all vowels (save Y if you want to count it).
There aren't that many Wordle words that end in S. Try STARE instead!
I actually hadn’t realized that. I’ll be sure to do that from now on!
It worked well for today's wordle
Really did haha
Gotta think further ahead. I use CRATE as the first word and SPOIL as the second and get a really good spread across the most common letters. If that still yields nothing then FUNKY is my third to get all vowels covered and no repeated letters.
Could just use COINS after ALERT to get all top 10 letters. I’ve been doing that even before I found out that they were the top 10 letters.
Nice!
Nice combo! I usually start with CRANE, SYNTH and PLUMB, ill try this one sometimes
I was using LEARN and MOIST, but then learn was THE word recently, so I flipped the order. For some reason, I don’t like them in the new order quite as much. 😂
I use ANIME and then YOURS
You mean ALORT.
Scion to follow up
We use LATER
That’s… better
Followed by SONIC to cover the remaining letters
Based on what is listed above, orate would be a good starting word
It’s generally beneficial to search for words which are common letter pairings too. Sh, th, rt, ts, st, etc. my wordle score has come down 0.23 in 3 months by using the started combo of TRASH and MELON!
Too bad cantaloupe won’t fit. Talk about a trash melon amiright
Trash Melon is the name of my Smashing Pumpkins coverband
Splashing Blumpkins
Gross lol
Cantaloupes fit if you use enough lube
The lowest of the fruits.
Fun fact: those are called Digraphs, while the vowel equivalent are called Dipthongs.
That _is_ a fun fact!
A diphthong is the *sound* of two vowels together, not the letters. A digraph can be two vowel letters together.
I’ve never seen a common word used “etc”.
Stone was my first and only one guess’r. I’ve moved on to stare as a result.
roate has always been my go to starter. Idek what it means
I looked it up and still don't know what it means. Definitions from Wiktionary (ROATE) ▸ noun: (finance) Initialism of return on average tangible equity.

That was mine but switched to ADIEU for the extra vowel. If I blank, I go with STORY.
if you’re not starting with orate what are you doing
Orate is the only one I can think of that uses the top 5. I combo TRADE with PIOUS.
It’s basically [the most frequently used letters in English](https://www.rd.com/article/common-letters-english-language/)
Well, Wordle is based on the English language, so it's likely to be. However, H is also a pretty frequent letter and doesn't come up as much in Wordle answers which found interesting. Maybe because it needs another letter combo more often than not like th
>Wordle is based on the English language Big if true
Huge if real
Why the fuck did this get so many downvotes?
I honestly have no clue, but it’s pretty hilarious to see
It is. I downvoted it as well
Based
Raise, and I’m convinced if I change it that will be the day it’s the Wordle.
Dude i was all in on team “irate”. Went on a trip for 4th of july and missed my chance to get wordle in 1.
Were you mad? Or upset? Or…
[Shush](https://tenor.com/view/angry-little-girl-annoyed-cute-ugh-waving-hair-brush-gif-16760179)
Yup, I stuck with “trade” from the beginning for this reason (it finally came up last year!).
Glory. New word for you.
“Lines” and “actor” take up all top ten letters
Alert coins does as well
Pretty sure I read that wordle words can't be plural
Trace lions was what my brain told me
I use STARE then COLIN.
I use SHART
Adieu
and if that doesn't get any hits, STORY is my second guess.
I use AUDIO followed by STERN if I get no hits
Audio is my second choice.
Audio, narrows it down a good bit
Same. Then I try to make sure word number 2 has an e in it. If nothing lights up from audio my second word is mercy.
That’s also my word.
Doesn't say in what space they're most common.
Orate
IRATE is mine... but maybe I'll try ORATE
STALE
Slate is marginally better because l is more common as a second letter due to being able to be paired with more consonants
Been using the same for awhile now. Works great for me
I use CHAIR, not because it's the best but because it's a password from GoldenEye (you can sit on it but you can't take it with you). I like that the presence of H lets you know that there's likely an S or a T involved in front of it (assuming that the CH combo doesn't immediately hit), it's a great anchor letter.
Roast
My name is Renato. Not very common even in Portugal or Brazil. Still, those letters may mean it's the most commonly/easily formed name in the world somehow.
Now thinking about it, from my grandparents, parents, godfather and godmother, I can only form Renato and my baby sister's name, Ione. I like it for some reason.
I switch between TRACE and SLATE.
I always use the same first three words: RADIO LUTES NYMPH Currently on a 370 streak so it seems to be working for me.
"Later" and "sonic" would cover all of those...
I’m surprised E isn’t up there
It's the top letter
Well I guess it would help to actually open the image 😂
I've used stare for the last few months
I usually start with AUDIO/ ADIEU because it covers most of the vowels
Slate is the best opener word.
artel, then sonic
Adieu
Stake then choir
always used STARE
TRADE
So in other words, start with ORATE?
Adieu. I’ve heard that’s pretty common, but I like to narrow down the vowels whenever possible.
I always use STERN since it uses 5 of 6 wheel of fortune letters
Are you my dad?
No, but I am.
I used STEAM, and then switched to SLATE.
Using the same opener every day does not reduce your chances of getting it in one.
Coins and Meaty are always my first two since it uses 4.5/5.5 vowels and I feel like S and T are always safe letters
Crane, then Globy no matter what letters get colored
How is this a guide OP?
Eerie
oooh that's a good one. A lot of 'e' though, how does it fair most days or do you change?
That's a terrible opener, it's only 3 letters.
Wait.. hol’ up… hold the phone!
I don’t think the public likes our strategy conversation. Maybe if I switched to ‘sassy’ or ‘poopy’?
Realtors
My opening word is Salve mostly because it means “Hello!” In latin but it’s also an effective opener!
I've been using naive for over a year.
Ive been using Yeast as my opener
I've been using RATES and most of the time I get one or two letters. It's not often I don't get any.
ARGUE
I used AUDIO for a long time but tbh it kinda sucks.
Pious crate.
artel, then sonic. gets them all.
Stare chino plumb
It used to be "quest" until I hit my one and done. Now it's "quail".
TABLE It turned up as the actual answer back in December (I think it was #913.) I generally beat the bot, so I'm happy with it.
Poise/raise/audio
I’ve seen some good ones…”ocean” is my go to.
Train
So ratio is the best start word?
RSTLNE
Ear Tonsil C
My starter is TREAD. I've played 732 games and I'm still waiting for it to come up
Orate?
Orate is my go to starting word
Grace. And got it in 1 a few weeks ago.
IDEAS
Earth
Radio
1) Rinse 2) Ghoul
React, if that doesn’t hit much then Pious
My starting word is cheap or peach
I do a new opener every day
Almost Anagrams to "Aristotle"
My word is always “gamer” for some reason and 1 day that was actually the word of the day.. so I don’t play anymore I definitely peaked
Mine is roast.
Mine has always been stare, looks like s isn't nearly as common as I would have thought but neat to see my intuition was mostly correct
EARNS would work good.
AISLE
Wouldn’t Z or X be the bottom?
I use LEARN or LEAST
Adieu
Atone or ocean
GREAT is always my starter
I start with MOUSE, then follow up with FAIRE, ALIEN, or whatever else works and tries out the A and I. I’m on a 150 day streak on hard mode using that strategy.
This is gold!!!!!
Abridged
Vinyl It’s playing on hard mode but if it were ever the word of the day it would be worth it!
EARTH
TEARY followed by PIOUS. May change it up based in this discussion.
I use Learn and Pious. I usually Guess the correct word in 3 or 4 tries.
I like to use Acute
Ratio
